The Canadiens are in New Jeresey tonight where they’ll play the 1st game of a 24 hour weekend double header. Traditonally the Devils could stop the Canadiens with ease but this years Devils team is new and lacking the veteran skill and leadership of Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer. Usually the tighest defensive team, even Martin Brodeur has struggled and the Devils are 11th in the Conference 11 points back of the Habs.
The Canadiens head into the Meadowlands with a sniper recovering from surgery, a starting goalie nursing a sore groin and Jan Bulis coming back trying to find a spot on someone’s line. As of now the starting goalie is undetermined but expect to see 2 different starters this weekend. Cristobal Huet is apparently healthy and should proabably see his first game as a Hab.
More importantly, Saturday will mark Alexander Ovechkin‘s first game against le Tricolore. An electrifying scorer and tougher than most assume. He has been scoring and hitting and playing huge for the Capitals and will be looking for more in Montreal.
That being said, these 2 teams are 11th and 15th in the conference. 4 points is a must to keep our hold on 1st.
