Bonk out indefinitely

We’re more than half way through the Canadiens week of rest and starting to gauge where we’ll be on Saturday night.

Radek Bonk has a tear in groin muscle and is out indefinitely. If I were reporting this back in August or September I might have thought that this would be a big blow to the Habs and hard to overcome. Not the case. Radek Bonk has been nothing less than an underachiever this year. 0 goals and 2+ million dollars a year. You can say he has been hurt and never fully healthy, he did miss 8 games. Regardless, Canadiens fans (and management) expected a lot more from Bonk. His reputation in Ottawa was a bit of a lazy guy and maybe that is true, maybe he just hasn’t found a way to mesh in Montreal.

Saku Koivu and Alex Kovalev are skating. Kovalev is still at least a few weeks away from returning but Captain Koivu could be in the lineup Saturday night. The Canadiens just play better when the Captain is in the lineup, even if he’s not scoring every game.

The Canadiens should come back with a clear head and rested bodies ready to take on the Western Conference.

It’s a bit slower in the off season. Pretty much daily during the Habs season.
