Mathieu Dandenault

It is unfortunate to see Mathieu Dandenault go down with a muscle tear which will keep him out of the lineup indefinitely.

However, Dandenault has never really lived up to the hype and expectations when arriving two summers ago. Dandenault a three time cup winner with the Wings was supposed to bring experience, speed and offense to the Habs blue line.

No one can doubt he is a fantastic skater with great speed but Dandenault has failed to really stand out as a player and is more or less content as an average 4th or 5th D-man.

Dandenault had a fresh start this year to prove he can do more. Until going down with his injury.

Last year he was described as offensively minded and could/would also fill in in the forward position. He was thrown around for the first half of the season and used on Forward as well as Defense which seemed to be confusing and do more harm than good.

Mark Streit will get his chance to do what Dandenault was always expected to do offensively for the Habs. His game is coming along and he had arguably one of the best training camps. Now it’s time to prove he deserves that roster spot full time.

      I just want to see lest bitchin’ on here about ‘how bad were doing’ ‘this matters come april’ ‘Streit is crap’ etc, i just wanna see people talkin positive about the Habs - i mean best PK and 6 out of 8 points is by far overshot my expectations for the new season. Lets just get behind the Habs 110% and cheer them to victory!

      Have to admit I’ve been less than impressed with Dandenault, thought he’d bring more to the table. Streit is solid and capable.

      I disagree. I was one of the ones who was pretty harsh on his performance during his first year. However, i for one have been won over by his playoff work last year and his albeit, short appearance so far this year. He looks like he’s adjusted to MTL media well and as far as i can see, but moreover, he works hard and looks to have a HABS heart.

      Who said Dandenault was an offensive defenceman or anything more than a 4th or 5th D-man? If you look at his #’s last year they are right around his carear average if not slightly higher. When he signed as a free agent he was only going to be at best our 4th D-man. He was and will always be behind Markov, Rivet and Souray on the depth chart, and probably behind Komi at this point too. Dandenault has been everything he was expected to be since he signed.

      Streit if miracles can occur then today is your day to prove it. Tough Flames coming playing us tonight knowing they have only 2-3 points. It’ll be a tough game guys. Don’t be surprised if we lose. They have more to prove then Habs have to.But on the other side of the coin habs lost their first game at Bell centre and might go wild and win this game as jokes. I just hope Latendresse upgrades to the 2nd line. That will be crazy(fast and furious). By the way great job Carbonneau! We’re one of the best denfensive team in the league.

      He must be the reason why Komi is playing so great. We just need to have a sencond line contributing to scoring and I dont think Samsonov’s goal is the reason he still desrves this positions.We can put him on the 3rd line move back bonk to 4th line and we’ll have 3 crazy scoring line

      1.(higgz, koivu, Rydz)
      2.(Tendresse, pleckz, kovi)
      3.(samz, Johns, perez)
      4.(Begin, Bonk, Murray-Downey)

      Man I don’t think we can form any better line. Thats the best we can have!

      I should re-read my post before pushin any buttons. Reminds be of wiggums kid when he was told he’s flunking grammer he said.. “that’s unpossible”.
      Anyway, there’ll always be many line combo’s. But to me, on just about any team there’s an untapped and unlikely combination of players that, for one reason or another, just click well. Take my third checking line for example…

      What about: (here comes the smoke)

      1- Higgs / Koivu / Murray
      2- Ryder / Latendresse / Kovi
      3- Sami / Begin / Pleckz
      4- Bonk / Johnson / Perez

      PK Chking
      1- Higgs - Koivu - Begin
      2- Murray - Bonk - Pleckz
      3- Gainey - Carbo - Muller

      Man you must study the positions of the players dude! First of all, ryder palys on the right wing, secondly, Landresse isn’t a centerman, he plays on the left wing. Man you’re off the road! Bonk plays center. Pk chekcing lines aren’t composed of 3 offenseive players. There’s always 2 offensive players and 2 defencemen.

      We should make a deal with the Flames that if the game is tied after 2 periods, both teams play the entire third period without a goalie. I guess we win 20-15 or something for great action and both teams get plenty of points for their players.

      I sure hope Downey is okay. He’s been really good on the fourth line and it’s never good when a player goes to the hospital. It’s 5-4 Habs with 3:00 to go. The refs to this point have let the Flames get away with nothing in the second, everything in the third and it’s been the opposite for the Habs.

      Anyways, great game. Higgins played very good, even though he only got an assist. Souray 2 goals, 1 assist, physical precense. Bonk donking 2.

      Huet, though, allowing 4 goals in 23 shots. Not so good.

      Line 4 still did nothing tonight because everyone is probably still confused as to what the role of this line is supposed to be (a grinder line versus a showcase line.) However, Line 3 was again great tonight! Line 1 and line 2 also contributed to the victory. Huet’s save percenatge of 0.826 tonight leaves something to be desired. If line 4 ever gets on track, watch out!

      Love Huet but he’s starting to look more and more like a backup.
      He can’t move side to side fast enough and he’s horrible with the rebounds.
      Time will tell what seperates the good from the great.

      Hope the best for both, but Abby’s really starting to shine.

      Can you guys imagine how awesome Kovalev would be if he always played with HEART! Seriously this guy needs to be pissed off or have something to prove in order to perform, but when he does…WOW! as for the 2nd line last night 2/3 of them seem to be finding their stride I still think that we need to move samsonov he’s almost lost outhere! (my opinion) and the fourth line once again. Wait…was there a fourth line last night?!?……oh yeah ! UMPH!!! GO HABS GO !
