Devil Dance
-
The Montreal Canadiens visit the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Meadowlands.
Historically not a very successful place to play if you’re from Montreal. 1 win in the past 23 games in NJ. Totally owned.
Tonight will be no easier, the Devils go for their 6th straight home win and have a 9-1-1 record while playing host. The Devils are also 5-0 in the last 5 against le Tricolore. Ouch.
Add to that the Claude Julien factor. Anyone who’s ever been canned by an employer loves to get their revenge and Julien will be ready to beat his old team for the second time this year. Oh ya, don’t forget that Martin Brodeur guy….he seems to like playing the Canadiens for some reason.
On paper everything points to another Habs loss. Potentially their first back to back loss of the year. Maybe that’s the perfect setup for a reversal of the trend.
David Abeischer gets the chance to be the savior tonight. Cristobal Huet had a rough one against Boston, why subject him to the statistically worst possible chance at a win? Especially with the surging Islanders and the Sabres following shortly.
It’ll be interesting to see if Aaron Downey’s ‘practice intensity’ pays off and gets him a spot in the lineup. I’d expect the answer to be yes and look for a fight with Janssen if the Canadiens go down a goal early.

Against a dominating enemy like NJ, and the position we are in at the moment, i feel that the team needs to be all out attacking. Bob needs to put everyone and anyone who can score on the ice and grind hard to get the goals. Sure if we concede then just bite right back. No quarter, just attack. I worked against us with the buckets of shots against Huet. Just pound away and never stop.
Saying that is far too easy. We COULD just play ultra-defense and contain the puck rather than even letting the Devils get a chance.

Trap hockey is boring
December 6th, 2006 at 10:34 am
Trap hockey is Montreal’s biggest problem. Right now they can’t even do the rush out and instead Souray, Markov, especially Ninnima keep passing the puck to the other team and often it ends up in the game winning goal….
Trap hockey only works when you have strong forwards who can outmuscle the other team and rush in….or strong defensemen who don’t get knocked over like Ninny and Streit…..Streit is one of the biggest disappointments, imagine paying him outrageous prices just to be a lack lustre hockey player….

Tonights game as follows
Habs 4 Devils 2, Ryder 1 goal 2 helpers, Sammy,1 goal 2 helpers, Kovey,2 goals 1 helper,
Tormorrow on the blog, the haters will silent.
December 6th, 2006 at 11:42 am
Hab-dab-a-do: Your prediction requires the 1st line to score 3 goals and the 2nd line to score 3 goals, for a total of 6. Unless, of course, you figure that Ryder will play with either or both Sammy/Kovey on the PP. Having said that, a 6-2 victory would be nice. The 1st and 2nd lines need to pick up their 5 on 5 performance and get their +/-’s into the black.
The play of the Bonk line could be a blessing in more ways than one - like teaching the lines above them how to perform 5 on 5.
Think about it boyz - last year we lost one of our best players (Kovey) in mid-november and we tanked. This year, we lost our best player (Higgs) and we continue to do well. This team is better than last year.
Go Habs Go
December 6th, 2006 at 11:52 am
Must Broduer play against the Habs every single time we play. Is he obsessed with the Habs? HE gets so excited everytime we play he starts flopping around on the ice and making all these saves. ITs kinda starting to piss me off. New Jersay is boring as he**.
GO Habs GO
December 6th, 2006 at 11:53 am
THATS RIGHT, RYDER WILL SCORE THE 6TH GOAL BUT IT WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
December 6th, 2006 at 12:35 pm
Youpi will finally be brought on to buck up our failing defense and he will score the final goal which will not count, but he will score the decisive overtime goal, and then Gainey will send Youpi down to Hamilton for playing too well….
December 6th, 2006 at 12:39 pm
You just get a bad feeling in your gut whenever they play the Devil’s. I think the Habs finally lose 2 in a row and their inconsistently may finally catch up with them.
December 6th, 2006 at 1:04 pm
Youpi and Sourey will be on the point tonight and the play by play to sound like this, ” Youpi to Sourey back to Youpi over to Ryder back to Youpi, Youpi drives to the net past 4 devils dekes left dekes right SCORES upstairs for his 3rd of the night, What a huge nite for this orange mascot from Montreal” he probley will log somewhere around 52 min of ice time and be the missing link you are all wishing for on this team, Should be interesting.
December 6th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
Can Youppi play center?
December 6th, 2006 at 1:29 pm
Potentialy one of the best centre’s in the league
December 6th, 2006 at 1:58 pm
He has a Joel Otto style face off and, though not too quick on his skates, if he lines you up in the corner you’re done for.
December 6th, 2006 at 3:28 pm
HE seems like he would be good IFO the net. Definetely a good screen. HE could probably give one heck of a hip check.
December 6th, 2006 at 4:07 pm
ok….what did you guys smoke for breakfast?
5-2 devils tonight….& you know how solid my last prediction was…only good thing that comes out of it is they get pissed off enought o beat both nyi and buffalo on saturday.
December 6th, 2006 at 4:12 pm
we’ve lost 3 of our last 5. So much so playing well! We AREN’T PLAYING WELL NOW!and it’s only going to get tougher. the more games you play, the more your weaknesses are exposed. no 2nd line center, a horrible defence, and an inconsistent back up goaltender! I only wish Gainey would make some moves to improve in those areas. Boston and ottawa are surging forward, and we’re not!
December 6th, 2006 at 5:32 pm
I predict three straight losses.
Every time the Habs score a bunch of goals, they go dry the next game, so since they lost to LAST PLACE Boston 6-5, very few goals tonite against the Devils. If the Devils score first and with Brodeur in the nets, Habs are due for being shut-out. Sorry about that!!
NYI is on the rise and improving and it will the second game in two nights, Habs will be too pooped to score, same as when they played the Lightning and next night the cellar dwelling Panthers, lost that game. Just a repeat again!!
Saturday against Buffalo, not a chance.
December 6th, 2006 at 6:04 pm
Even though the Hab’s record against NJ is atrocious (especially in the Swamp),
I have a good feeling about tonight’s game….4-3 Hab’s in OT. I heard Markov is out tonight because of the flu….if that is the case then the road just got even tougher. Let’s hope they keep their record of not losing two in a row intact.
December 6th, 2006 at 7:08 pm
Bugger - Markhov out with the flu (http://habsinsideout.com/). Opportunity for Ninimaa to step up - although I have no expectation of anything other than what he’s provided so far - which isn’t much.
Streit will be on 4th line - hmmm, wonder if downey will be in there, or not. I thought the 4th line played pretty well on Monday, so I’m not expecting that to change.
December 6th, 2006 at 8:35 pm
I’ve also heard that Youppi can drop the gloves and swing with the best of them. Maybe he’ll beat up Cam Janssen.
December 6th, 2006 at 9:13 pm
1-0 after getting outshot and penalty trouble in the first. Probably the best result you could hope for with all the problems they had in the first.
December 6th, 2006 at 10:55 pm
HAB-DAB-A-DO DREAM ON!!!
December 6th, 2006 at 10:55 pm
8 $#@#$#@ seconds….unbelievable!!
December 6th, 2006 at 11:13 pm
2 game losing streak! I bet on the game tonight. I bet a tie;I ONLY NEEDED 11 MORE SECONDS TO WIN MY BETS! F@$%K!they couldn’t last another damn 11 seconds!!! Pretenders, but never contenders!!!
December 6th, 2006 at 11:18 pm
ahhh
but 1 game is not a bet…at least not in quebec
so did you win your other picks?
cuz if so, ouch.
December 6th, 2006 at 11:37 pm
That result sucked BIG TIME!! It is high time that the NHL held their officials to account for calls like that at the end of OT. I’m too pissed off to say anymore!! GO HABS GO!!!
December 7th, 2006 at 12:05 am
It’s O.K. to be a fanatic for a winner,this team is not a winner.It needs fu@%ing changes now!!!!Demand action now ,BORG M.F,ers.
December 7th, 2006 at 12:16 am
habs blog, I did win the other games; it was the 6th game. would have paid alot because of the tie. they can’t even do that right! bunch of losers! NJ didn’t play well, but somehow always seem to beat us ! what do you have to do to win a game? tight defence, and they still lose! Why doesn’t Gainey do something? our offence is so bad, Carbo is forced to play defencemen as forwards!
December 7th, 2006 at 12:32 am
Calm down people it is no time to push the panic just yet. Once we get Higgie back thing will pick up. But something has GOT to be done about that second line or the Hab’s are not going anywhere! GO HABS GO !!!
December 7th, 2006 at 12:39 am

December 7th, 2006 at 12:47 am

December 7th, 2006 at 12:51 am

December 7th, 2006 at 1:14 am
It’s worse than that,I live near Vancouver,I’ve seen what can happen to a hockey club….It’s not pretty man!!!!!
December 7th, 2006 at 3:08 am
Outshot Again: 31 - 19
We need a pure goalscorer. We are going nowhere if we can’t score.
The only problem, I don’t think anyone wants to trade with us.
What the hell do we have to offer? Radek Bonk?
He’s our best player we can’t give him up. Pathetic! Pathetic! Pathetic!
I’m just fed the f@#% up!
December 7th, 2006 at 10:05 am
19 shots on goal, thats with the O/T. Habs offense was absolutely nill. They have their defensive game working but the offense is not there. Last nights game, yes we got a point but, didnt deserve it offesenively. Brodeur was bored too say the least. Guy really needs to try new line combos. Change up the 1st and 2nd lines. They are not scoring now so whats the worst that can happen. Gainey cant make a trade because nobody has any value except Souray, who definetley should stay, Koivu of course he stays and suprisingly Bonk has value but he must stay. Kovy, Sammy, Ninimma and even Ryder dont have very high value for a trade. So Guy has to try something new with lines because the habs do not look promising on offense. No matter what i am a die hard habs fan so whatever happens win or lose i will always be a die hard. Go Habs Go
December 7th, 2006 at 10:36 am
Kovy , Sammy,Ninimma,Abby,Murray,Downey are trade bait!At worse, cut some loose, bring in prospects and watch them develop like in pittsburg, then games like the last four woulden’t be so hard to swallow. These’s guy’s would die for a chance to show there stuff.KID LINE AND PENNEY,the time is now Habs Fans.Oh yeah,if U can’t smell a fish in montreal right now, your more than a habs fan;U got compusive addicition problems.
December 7th, 2006 at 3:17 pm
