  • Panic in Montreal?

There’s a disturbing trend going on with the Habs that we’ve not seen all year.

    Losing.

The Canadiens have lost 4 out of their last 5 games. They’ve lost on the road, they’ve lost at home. They’ve lost badly.

Forget the ‘stomach virus’ and flu that has hit the team and forget the poor officiating that disallowed goals on more than one occasion.

Other than the game against the Rangers, the Canadiens have played very poor hockey. Is it a minor slump or are the Habs fading fast into their normal position battling for the last spot in the Eastern Conference?

Guy Carbonneau is presented with his first real challenge, to get this team playing well again.

How can they get it back on track? How can he light a fire under the asses of Kovalev, Samsonov, Ryder etc?

It won’t be an easy start today against the Devils. The Devils own the Canadiens at home and always play extremely tough in Montreal.

Martin Brodeur is never happier than when he’s in the crease in Montreal. Oh and Claude Julien feels pretty good winning in Montreal too. Nothing quite like beating the one who fired you.

Carbonneau could go with youth and send a message, Lapierre has played well. Grabovski showed signs of extreme skill, but has much to learn about defence.

He may not have a choice as the status of Koivu and Latendresse are still up in the air.

Cristobal Huet will be key for the Habs if they hope to win, if he plays like he can and can match Brodeur then they have a chance.

  • Grabovski and Lapierre called up

Members of the Canadiens are still suffering from a virus and the lineup today is uncertain.

What is certain is Maxim Lapierre and Mikhail Grabosvki have been called up and will be in the lineup.

Lapierre has had great success in his games with the Canadiens this year sparking controversy when he was demoted back to Hamilton.

Grabovski is a talented prospect and one who should be interesting to watch. Grabovski is small and in the pre-season had his shoulder separated before he could really be observed.
