Habs win a game!
-
Wow! A victory.
Just barely. The Habs almost blew it again letting the Blue Jackets back into the game but held them off for the victory.
Important, Michael Ryder scored. Saku Koivu scored. Will it get them out of their slumps?
Jaro Halak got his first NHL career victory and you’d expect him to continue starting until he drops a game. He did look sharp and confident we’ll get a better idea how capable he is after few more games in the big league.
Trade deadline is quickly approaching, all kinds of rumors floating around. Mostly completely false, some with merit.
Do the Habs need a trade? Which position is in most need of help?
Top 5 Canadiens on the Trade Block:
1) Shledon Souray
2) Michael Ryder
3) Alex Perezhogin
4) Craig Rivet
5) Draft PicksIf there is a deal, it will most likely involve these players.
Agree/disagree?

February 19, 2007 pm28 12:25 pm
Souray should not be traded unless the Habs really get something else that they can build around for the soon future, trade-dump-give away-buy out or whatever but get rid of those 3 pylons-Kovalev, Bonk, Samsonov, that will free
up quite a chunk of change that right now is just being pissed down a gopher hole ( hey I used to live on the prairies). I think the Habs have a solid bunch of draft picks to develop for the future, give them the ice time instead
of the pylons mentioned above. The Canucks did this with the Sedin Sisters and they have turned into good players.
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:31 pm
This will in no way get the Habs out of their slump. They “just barely” beat a team like Columbus….3-2??? what is that. That tells me how bad it really is, as discussed by everybody in this blog.
This will not end any of the players slumps. The only reason Ryder and Koivu scored is because it was Columbus!! The next strong team they play, they will lose and noone will score….this is just the fact. Halak was ok, I guess, but he didn’t steal the win or anything.
Right now as it stands, Montreal is not in the playoffs…10th place at the moment…..3 points out of 6th. It is tight, for sure it is! But the cream rises to the top, so, therefore you may still see teams like the Islander, or yes, potentially even Florida, pass us, if we don’t start coming out to play serious hockey
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:31 pm
TRADE BOB & CARBO !!!!
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:32 pm
But doesn’t Souray want to play on the west coast to be closer to his daughter? If we keep him we may end up getting “Prongered”…
I don’t agree the assessment of Radek Bonk, he’s a solid two-way player who contributes a lot of intangibles. I agree that if we can get anything for Kovalev and Samsonov, it could only be an improvement.
Halak looked good last night, like to see more of the same.
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:51 pm
Gainey should definitely make a trade. I think the playoffs are still feasible but the Habs shouldn’t be looking at rentals based on their tenuous sitaution. I’d like to see Sammy, Souray, Perezhoghin to Sharks for Bell, Vlasic, and Bernier. Vlasic and Bernier are both good now and got lots of upside while Bell’s having just as bad a season as Sammy and like him would probably benefit from a change of scenery. Eklund keeps speculating the Habs are looking for a goalie but Halak looked pretty good last night. Based on how much the team has slipped these past two months, if the Habs make the playoffs now, it’s a bonus and regardless they should be looking towards next season.
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:51 pm
This team may not even make the playoffs let alone win the cup, and don’t anyone bring up the Oilers last year cause that was almost a fluke(the stars were aligned for them and they’re a team full of players who’d take a bullet for their teammates every night, Montreal isn’t filled with players like that:see Micheal Ryder)
If you read the Gazette today, Rivet basically knows he’s gone in the next week. Apparently San Jose would give up Josh Gorges for him(good young d-man but they won’t trade Matt Carle so don’t even ask for him).
Souray could fetch an elite prospect if the bidding war goes crazy for him like it did for Forsberg. While San Jose may not be offering Steve Bernier right now and the Ducks say they won’t trade Bobby Ryan just wait till we get closer to next tuesday, the bidding may very well end up getting insane, especially if the Habs don’t do very well in the four games between now and then(Washington, Nashville, NYI, Toronto).
Also Bonk may get something considering the season he’s had defencively and he’s scored 10 goals.
Also I’ve believed Gainey’s never liked Ryder and is trying to deal him right now. So look for him to go regardless of were the Habs are in a week.
And while no teams will take Sammy, Kovalev is the type of player teams look at and go ‘hey we can make this guy good again, all we have to do is put him with so-and-so’. Maybe Gainey can work a miracle and trade him.
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:52 pm
Do not trade Sheldon Souray, sign him and re-build the team around him amongst others… If you trade Souray, then everybody here is going to whine that we don’t have an offensive defenceman/power play quarterback type. Throw all the money we can at him.
I like Michael Ryder too, he’s still young and needs to improve but trading him and watching him “John LeClair” us would suck.
Perezhogin, Markov and Bouillon don’t impress me.
I’d wait til the off-season and try and do a blockbuster with Tampa Bay for Lecavalier and/or St.Louis, give them Price or Halak or Huet and prospects and 1st rounders for 4 years, I don’t care BUT I WANT AN ENTERTAINING COMPETITIVE HOCKEY TEAM.
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:53 pm
I cant see the habs giving souray 5 plus million.I think it would be in the best interest of the club to trade souray now.As much as i love this guys heart and leadership i just cant see him staying. My biggest fear is that gainey holds on to him in hopes of resigning him and in the end souray walks.I hope gainey comes to terms that the bomb from the point will not stay and makes the right move NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 19, 2007 pm28 12:54 pm
Oh yeah, apparently the Isles called to see about the availability of Mike Komisarek:
‘Mathias Brunet of La Presse reports that the New York Islanders have been asking lots of questions regarding Habs blue-liner Mike Komisarek, apparently with the intent of trying to acquire the rugged defenceman. Knowing he risks losing four defenceman to free agency this summer, it’s highly unlikely Habs GM Bob Gainey would sacrifice a young, talented defenceman who has plenty of upside and leads the NHL in hits this season.’
So basically Gainey told Garth Snow to go screw himself.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:00 pm
Komisarek to the Isles, HA, why cuz he’s from Long Island? The french media probably want Marc-Andre Bergeron, right? Idiots.
The french media in Montreal are idiotic lunatics, they think they have every right to dictate how the team should be run. I say trade all of those franco-egos and their almighty ‘ideas’ to Paris, France, the city of ‘amour’ that actually smells like urine. Ever inhaled the air in that place??? P-U.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:09 pm
I’m not saying Gainey should take all of the blamefor where this team is now, but partial blame. He needs to be accountable for some mistakes. What mistakes? Overpaying players that aren’t worth it. I’m not condemning him for signing Samsonov, or Ninnimaa, but simply for OVERPAYING THEM! You don’t give Ninnimaa(broken down player), 2.75 mil/season, or Samsonov(underachiever), 4.75 mil, or for that matter Koivu,(who’s never scored more than 25 goals/season), more than 4 mil/season. It’s plain ridiculous. And what about Bonk? Isn’t he getting about 4 mil/sason, too? And what about Kovalev, who’s getting over 4 mil/season, and shows up only when he feels like it? C’mon Bob! do the math. there’s no money left to go and get really GOOD players. I realize you aren’t a mathemitician, but look at what you’ve paid for?
Underachieving, overpaid prima donnas. Now it’s time to go and get hard working, north americans, who care about their team, and will give 100% effort every game. Gainey, please learn from your mistakes!
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:11 pm
Souray will be in a Sharks uniform before San Jose plays in Washington on Wednesday night. In return for Souray the Habs will get Mark Bell and Stever Bernier.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:12 pm
Gainey DID NOT PAY Niinimaa, he came via trade from Dallas, blame the Isles or the Stars for paying him that…
PEOPLE GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:14 pm
That would be sweet. But Bob should force San Jose to take Sammy(Thornton might put pressure on the GM to get him cause they’re best friends) or Kovalev(who they might take cause they’re looking for a forward with size and playoff experience) and the Sharks have a lot of cap room.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:17 pm
Good point,Ribero’s having a good year in DALLAS, TWO GOALS LAST NITE .HE’S THIER BEST PLAYER ,GREAT TRADE BOB !!!
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:18 pm
I think it’s a mistake to hold onto Souray, because there’s no way he wants to stay here. He made it public knowledge that he wants to go to LA to be close to his daughter. And you know teams out west will give him as much, or more money , than the habs. So what exactly is his incentive to stay in Montreal?
the pressuring media, high taxes, language situation, being far away from his daughter? There is absolutely NO WAY he’s going to stay, no matter how much money Gainey throws at him. So don’t waste time on him. I say, get what you can for him, or else we’ll get ZERO!
Also get rid of Rivet, Ninnimaa on D. Forwards leaving, should be Ryder, Samsonov ,Kovalev, Bonk, Koivu, Murray, Downey .
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:18 pm
Mark Bell? He’s a drunk! I know, first hand.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:20 pm
R habs 4 real, your points are very valid(execpt for Niinamaa as smiler pointed out, that was Mike Milbury and don’t worry he’s gone at the end of the year), the Sammy and Kovalev contracts were mistakes although I think Gainey thought he was getting something better.
But you bet your *** he’s learned form this which is why you won’t see Datsyuk in a Habs uniform: no more Russians close to the age or over the age of thirty with long term deals(except Markov, expect him to get a deal about 4 years at 4/mil per year. The guy’s a +1, has 34 points(4 goals, 30 assists trust me Souay wouldn’t have as many PP goals if Markov wasn’t setting him up), and he’s the team leader in average ice time).
I can already smell the Steve Bernier or Bobby Ryan Habs jersey.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:21 pm
I can’t believe any Hab fan worth his weight in gold, would actually want Mike Ribeiro on this team! He’s a soccerwannabe faker weasel who shamed us with his ridiculous antics and his me-first attitude. Good riddance, just shows how weak the Dallas forwards are this season.
What next? Get Theodore back???
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:21 pm
But Koivu isn’t going anywhere so don’t hold your breath for that(Gainey’s not trading him and he has a no trade clause I believe.)
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:22 pm
Ribeiro’s a slime ball pansy. I never want him near the Habs again.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:22 pm
I don’t know why people are advocating the trade of Alexander Perezhogin or Radek Bonk. They might not be your favorite players but they 2nd and 3rd respectively in the teams plus/minus rankings with a plus 8 and a plus 13…. On a team where more than half of the players are deeply in the minus you can’t lose the ones that actually put more in the net than what they let in… even if they don’t put that many in the net…
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:31 pm
RIBERO’S turn his career around and we have POWER FORWARD NIINIMAA INSTEAD ,Habs #1,you are one blind Hab’s fan. 3 blind mice= Gainey, Carbo and Habs#1.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:34 pm
Plus/Minus is the most overrated statistic in the NHL, I could float on Wayne Gretzky’s line in the ’80s and be a PLUS-50!
Perezhogin or Milroy? Gimme Milroy. So trade Perezhogin and his swinging stick.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:35 pm
Perehzogin is a lousy player. He can’t score, and he’s been a healthy scratch alot, because he takes so many BAD PENALTIES. So why would we want to waste money on a player who spends all his time in the penalty box?
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:38 pm
never trade special agent radek bonk…
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:39 pm
Xhabfan, you know squat about how a hockey team works, just keeping watching buddy and learn.
Ribeiro’s a weasel and Niinimaa’s a non-factor in this whole thing, so Janne gets to ride of being a Montreal Canadien for one season while we rid of ourselves of an immature disruption… good riddance.
Everybody should quit bitching about Janne Niinimaa, he’s ‘collateral damage’ in the jettison of “Ribs”. What does Janne hurt riding the press box or bench? Nothing.
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:46 pm
smiler2729 weren’t you the guy that said the Habs were so great a couple of months ago, yeah you know hockey buddy ,LOL, HA HA HA HA ………..
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:49 pm
Won a game! What went wrong?
February 19, 2007 pm28 1:49 pm
They were great before Christmas you yo-yo, 5 pts behind league leading Buffalo!!! Duh.
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:01 pm
So Mark Bell’s a drunk, huh? Cool, he’d love this city! Honestly, I think he could be a good player for the Habs, he’s 2 years younger than Sammy, 6′4″ and can play center or left wing. He needs a new start without the pressure that comes with being brought in to complement both last year’s Art Ross and Richard winners. If the deal with San Jose goes down, Bernier and Vlasic have to be included as well. Wilson thinks that’s too steep, well how many other 20 goal defencemen are available? Gainey could always give Brian Burke a call …
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:02 pm
I like Robot#1, isn’t he french?
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:04 pm
Mark Bell plays summer hockey in the west end of Toronto with a few guys from our tourney team. The guy skates an hour or so and heads for the bar for about 12 beers. He never works out, he just doesn’t care. You want that on this team?
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:05 pm
Mark Bell is San Jose’s Sergei Samsonov.
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:08 pm
Every NHL GM should know that Mark Bell is untradeable due to the fact that he is awaiting trail on DUI and could get a year or more in jail for a pre-season accident.
Now, would you gamble and trade for him??
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:12 pm
I think if it basically comes down to Bell for Samsonov, why not?
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:15 pm
OK, didn’t know that his legal troubles made him untradeable, but if Souray goes to the Sharks, I really hope Gainey holds out for both Bernier and Vlasic.
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:19 pm
If it is the Ducks who land #44, how about Penner and O’Brien? Although Vlasic is a much better all-round defenceman than O’Brien, and younger.
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:33 pm
teams know habs are desperate. they won’t give much in return, no matter who we trade. the reason being, look what Philly got for Forsberg?
Whatever we get, be it picks or potentials, it’s better than nothing, which we will end up, unless Gainey starts thinking with his head, and not his heart!

Subject: Montreal Maroons or Morons ?
People wonder why quality free agents don’t come to Montreal? Look no further than the dump Samsonov campaign after half a season, or the “is Kovalev really hurt” propaganda running amok in the public and the local media. Why have the captain and Les Boyz “run out of gas”? Why are the goalies looking more like Theodore than “Close the door”? Has the coach the room? What a joke folks, you need to relax!
We’re begging Gainey to trade our biggest offensive weapon on defence
since Larry Robinson instead of trying to find out if he will stay here at a reasonable cost. The minute you become a star in Montreal, you’re never
good enough any more. People forget that Guy Lafleur was booed towards the end
of his run here, and we all know what happened with St. Patrick.
At this rate, we will be holding a 40th anniversary of our last Stanley
Cup in a few years if the fans and media around here don’t get a grip on
reality and develop the patience and understanding necessary to develop a real
positive atmosphere to draw players here instead of repel them.
Please give these guys a break and be realistic with your expectations. Hounding and chasing the stars away is not solving anything, and frankly,
I can’t wait until Carbo has had enough of the dumb questions and flips the bird at us again.
CHEERS TO THAT!
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:47 pm
How possible do you think this rumor of Kovalev being shopped is? Personally, I think he’s a phenomenal talent, great wrist shot, best stickhandler on the team (possibly the league) but his work ethic is a complete joke. He is known to bring his best for the post-season so he still has value. But these older Russian players (Kovy, Fedorov, Mogilny, Malakhov) all have that same mentality from living in Soviet Russia - Play your *** off to get to the NHL until you get that first huge contract and coast for the rest of your career. It’s refreshing to see the new generation (Ovechkin, Malkin, Kovalchuk) actually playing hard because they love the game not the $$$. Side note, Philly did pretty good actually in the Forsberg deal, no reason to think that Souray (obviously best defenceman available) wouldn’t fetch at least 2 top prospects.
February 19, 2007 pm28 2:54 pm
Smiler, I love what Souray brings game in, game out in spite of his defensive shortcomings, while Saku has curled up into a corner recently, Souray has picked up that ball in the leadership department. However, what are the chances of Souray re-signing here? And if the Habs slide into the playoffs, with or without Souray, they’re not going to challenge for the Cup this year so why not at least kick a few tires to see what these Cali based teams would be willing to part with?
February 19, 2007 pm28 3:05 pm
I’m so tired of hearing about Souray and his daughter, is playing in Los Angeles/Anaheim or San Jose really going to change the fact he plays on the road alot…
Besides, MONEY TALKS. He’ll $tay.
February 19, 2007 pm28 3:22 pm
HAB FANS
IS THAT WHAT YOU CALL YOURSELVES.
WITH ALL THIS TALK YOU ARE GIVING THE TEAM THE EVIL EYE
AND SCARING ALL THE GHOSTS FROM THE PAST.
BEILIEVE AND GIVE THEM A CHANCE A COUPLE OF TRADES A STRING OF WINS AND
WE WILL BE RIGHT BACK UP THE STANDINGS.

February 19, 2007 pm28 3:28 pm
So do the Habs need a trade as this blog is asking? No.
I maintain, unless it is one of those core shake-ups that will vastly improve the team for years to come (a blockbuster for Lecavalier), that the Habs can put this 6 week malaise behind them and start playing again like they did in November and December.
I like the idea of Hamilton Bulldog callups (Lapierre, Milroy and Halak have added a little something to this team) rather than trading away our so-called “unwanteds”.
The Habs are neither sellers nor buyers (unless some other GM is giving away superstars)… the Canadiens simply need to gel and quit listening to all the spoiled nay-sayers.
Let’s find the heart and grit to make another run towards the post-season like we had coming out of the gate… then who will all you whiners complain about?
In Bob We Trust.
February 19, 2007 pm28 3:30 pm
I believe Souray will not be dealt and that Gainey will try his best to resign him this July. If Gainey does make a deal in the next week you can be certain it will be a deal that will benefit the Habs in the long term and not for a short term gain. This team is still being built for the future and are at least one or two years away from being a legitimate contender.
February 19, 2007 pm28 3:51 pm
Again, I ask Habs Fans one simple question which if answered doesn’t make you any less of a Habs Fan. Is this the worst Habs team ever? yes…. no….If you wish please give an honest view point using your senses and not your heart.Come on,step up to the plate as a collective of fans and see were this takes us.
February 19, 2007 pm28 3:56 pm
The team we have now, will never win a cup, not this year, or next year, or even 2 years from now. the reason: lack of talent. You can’t compare talent of Ottawa or Pittsburgh to us. It’s like night and day. Stop dreaming guys!
unless there are some major trades, this team is going nowhere.
And stop blaming the fans! We aren’t responsible for this team’s collapse. we don’t lace up the skates, and shoot the puck, or stop the puck.
If the defence is porous, are we responsible for that? If there is no heart or desire, are we responsible for that.
We are die hard fans with a passion for our team! Not alot of fans in other cities care about their team as much as we do. Their team doesn’t even exist in their eyes. Maybe we care too much, but hockey is a religion in Canada.
We also don’t make the tax laws, or language laws, or responsible for the pressuring media. Stop blaming the fans for a crappy hockey team.
These are the same fans who watched as the team won 4 cups in a row in the 70’s. As I can recall, we had language problems then, the taxes were high then, and the media was even more demanding then.
the onus is on this underachieving team, not those wear their heart on their sleeve!
February 19, 2007 pm28 4:09 pm
I agree with R Habs 4 real that the team we have right now will not win us a cup. We need some GOOD, GRITTY hockey players like Mike Fisher and Gary Roberts to help us win. I know Roberts is 40 years old but he can still play. I would love to have someone like Mike Fisher on my team. We should definitely be buyers at the deadline and build from there. We should try and keep Souray because he is a player that shows HEART and wants to WIN. We should try and RESIGN HIM, NO MATTER WHAT THE COST!!!
Ziman
February 19, 2007 pm28 4:33 pm
I think the habs should trade with the wild Koivu for Koivu, Could even save money by not having to do a new jersey.
February 19, 2007 pm28 5:16 pm
hey dudes
after watching the game last night////
if the habs had played a quality team i am afraid that this new goal tender may well be in hospital seeking some kind of shock treatment!!!!!!
we are DOOMED !!!!!!!!!!!
time to start again bob , dump the slackers/
p.s. habs are still better than the leafs
February 19, 2007 pm28 5:45 pm
I can’t believe all these blogs and people that say its the fans who are to blame for the negative spirit in Montreal. Geeze, what almost a decade of full seating, that is not exactly negative support, if anything fan support for the habs is outstanding.
Gee blame other teams for Ninny? We got Ninny, the only people to blame for getting Ninny here are us. Plain and simple.
The only people other teams are interested in are Bonk and Pleks and a couple of our rookies. None of the list shows here.
I can’t believe people that actually believe Bob was forced to sign Ninny and the rest that he signed, like Bob was kidnapped one day and forced to sign this bunch. A trade is a contract, regardless if it involves other teams, it is a signed contract. Like as if we get free hockey players, honestly wake up and smell your own stink on that one.
February 19, 2007 pm28 5:49 pm
Did all of you expect Gainey to cure all the ills of this franchise in three years?
This franchise had zero prospects when Gainey came just like Minnesota did when he took over the Stars.
Understand that Kovalev/Ninnamaa/Samsonov etc. are stop gaps till the guys Gainey drafted are ready for the bigs.
For all those people who think Gainey bought a cup in Dallas. Gimme a break. He built that entire franchise from the ground up. Other then Belfour, Niewendyk(I have no idea how his name is spelled), Hull, Carbo and Zubov he drafted that cup winning team. Who drafted the current stars in Dallas(Turco, Brendan Morrow)?
And you want to know why the Habs have no superstars? Let’s go back to 1996-2001. When the Habs constantly finished in 9th-10th place and just barely missed the playoffs but still were somewhat compeditive cause the fans and media wouldn’t except 4-5 years of the Habs finishing at the very bottom of the league so they’d be able to draft the likes of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Olli Jokinen, Roberto Luongo, Vinny Lecavelier, David Legwand(finally breaking out in Nashville), Brad Stuart, Alex Tanguay, The Sedin Twins, Havlat, Dany Heatley, Marian Gaborik, Kovalchuk, Spezza, Rick Nash, Jay Bouwmeester, Ryan whitney, Joni Pitkanen, Keith Ballard and Alex Semin(Although I’ll give them a pass on 2002 cause they got Higgins).
Take a look at all those players the Habs missed out on cause all you fans out there refuse to go through a rebuilding process. You want to know why the Habs have no young superstar players? How about the fact that the management before Gainey buckled under your pressure’s cause you refused to be in last place for 3-4-5 years.
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:00 pm
I agree, but where is Samsonov in it? I think he must go!
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:01 pm
Oh ya, Habs#1, we had the lockout and a chance to rebuild, what did Gainey do, nada, like as if it is the fans to blame for Gainey acquiring and getting this bunch, gimmee a break already!
I say trade what the other teams want, if only to change the setup so Carbo can match players together, right now his line juggling has exposed that none of the habs fit together, it is a team afterall. But the way its playing, it is not a team. You need players who fit each other.
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:17 pm
Joshtm:
Wake up buddy, If you are going to respond to comments you must understand them first. The Id*otic fans are not to be blamed for player acquisitions but the fact that we cant attract better. Brendan SHanahan, Patrick Elias, Jason Arnott, etc. They did not come for one reason. The fans and media turn their lives into circus acts. Its ridicualous. R U telling me that if you were a player and werent living in you moma’s basement that you would want to go thorugh all of that **** instead of enjoying the surf in Tampa or San Jose? Being a professional sports athlete is tough enough as it is let alone having fans demanded you are traded whether you are stuggling and whether you are playing too well and you have to be traded because you are playing so well. Get a grip FOOLS.
GAiney has made his his fair share of mistakes but what GM has not. Lamorello traded Souray for Malakhov. OOPS! HE is dealt a ****** hand being the GM of MOntreal. Its like poker adn being dealt 2-7 off suited. HOw can you win the hand? YOu gotta stick around to at least see the flop. But when you through your first feeler bet out?
SO JOshtm you must ask yourself What the Fu*k do you want? WHat do you want? YOu dont know? YOu want young healthy superstars like Crosby and OVeckin. okay buddy.
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:19 pm
Ok, here’s my take on this thing….Gainey’s going to gear this team up for a time frame when Carey Price is tending the nets. That should be 2-3 years away, so Bob’s got to get his draft picks and free agents all lined up properly-again remembering that so many of these moves are predicated upon the “salary cap”- so that the Habs are competitive during his solid goalie years with Price. Until then, this is a mediocre 7th-10th place team that, if fortunate enough to make the playoffs, might only win a round at best. We want a team that will be a top 4 team for years to come.
doogie
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:31 pm
C’mon guys!!!! Montreal is a beautiful city with an amazing nightlife and gorgeious woman. WHen the Hab sare struggling that is when its time to ease up on following the Habs and enjoy other aspects of the city. I love teh Habs but why feel miserable and bi*ch all the time when things arent gonig well. Go party, get laid. YOu know lick some fudge off the abs of some Italian girl or something, whatever gets you going. Just dont waste you lives Complaining about Gainey and his job. HE doesnt complain aboutthe way some of you serve french fires and gravy.
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:32 pm
So we all say, this team’s future is predicated by the drafting and trading that Gainey will do in the next 2 years. Let’s see what kind of players,(picks) he makes. And if we’re still having this same conversation,( or if the team is as stagnant as they are now,)2 years from now, then we will realize that Gainey did not do a good job, and is not a great GM. TIME WILL TELL!
I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
But I’m not willing to wait 10 years for a competitive team! So he better get this team moving in the right direction, and soon, or fans patience will run out!

Teh last post was mainly directed at Joshy boy. ALthough he probably wont like that with his sexual frustrations and all. Sorry bud.
February 19, 2007 pm28 6:57 pm
Sexual frustrations. : ) Thats hilarious.
Go get laid josh.
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:00 pm
You can’t build a team around a terrible defenceman that only gets points on the powerplay. Trade Souray while his value is highest. Also, pencil in a loss February 26th
Congrats on the win.
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:09 pm
I guess just want the LEafs learned about building their team around McCabe and Kaberle.
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:11 pm
The rumour at the beginning of teh year was to acquire Land from Detroit we would have to involve Perezhogin in the deal. Boy would we love to make that deal now.
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:24 pm
there is a rumour(here we go again), from team 990, that discussions between habs and Sharks are taking place, involving possible trade, sending Souray, Samsonov, and 4th round pick for Pavelski, Vlasic, and conditional draft pick. I say, when there’s no rumour, then it’s more likely to happen, because Gainey is as tight lipped as they come. But, nevertheless, it’s possible because Thornton ans Samsonov are great friends, and SJ is in need of a good D man. We’ll see.
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:40 pm
We should be getting Thorton for Souray ,a top 5 d man in the nhl, that trade is **** !
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:42 pm
I also heard that Kovalev(with that contrived injury), has swore to never play another game for the habs. did you notice he mentioned he was injured, ONLY AFTER HE WAS BENCHED IN THE 3RD PERIOD OF SATURDAY’S GAME?
I believe the injury was vastly embellished,(because he was playing with the injury for 2 months) and it’s his pride that was injured more than anything else. I’m told you can’t bench or scratch him, or he’ll never give you 100% for a game. Did he ever? I really believe, HE’S GONE!
I hope that’s true, because he goes thru motions more than playing hard.
What a prima donna. Who the hell does he think he is? No wonder NYR gave up on him. No room for loafers on this team!
February 19, 2007 pm28 7:48 pm
There’s more loafers on the HABS than at a Hush Puppies factory !
February 19, 2007 pm28 8:22 pm
You know what’s really sad to me is in 7 days the c@ckssucking Leaf’s are going to blow the fu@king Habs rite out of the Bell Center, which just sickn’s me and your still going to get these guy’s saying stupid thing like: U don’t know hockey ,I ‘m a goalie,I use my jock strap as a pillow at nite, It’s the fans fault,it’s the tax’s and the media…bla bla bla bla bla and were going to have Laff fans like Frank or THM RIDICULE US TO NO END and nothing …NOTHING will be done about it !!! What a bad fu@kin joke
February 19, 2007 pm28 8:34 pm
Please ..the person (69 Xhabsfan )reading this blog, ban that guy off this blog.Danger to have him even think. What an idiot!!
February 19, 2007 pm28 8:47 pm
Actually Kaberle is about 10 times hte player that Souray is. McCabe is a good proxy for what you can expect if the Habs try to build around that pylon.
And THM is a sens fan.
February 19, 2007 pm28 9:15 pm
XhabsFan: You are an I.D.10.T !
Nuf with the brainless ramble. Go to a Leafs blog and tell them you’re a Sens fan because we don’t want you to disgrace us!! LOSER!!
February 19, 2007 pm28 10:02 pm
Rivet still thinks he should be on the first PP unit instead of Souray. At the beginning of the season I think Rivet was looking to get around 4 million/year from the Habs. NOw he will be lucky to get 2 million/year from anyone. RIvet is sooooo gone he might as well leave on the same flight as Niniamm. The cargo plane as its way to Germany.

My noodle gets itchy when I watch GIlmore girls.
February 19, 2007 pm28 10:14 pm
hey, i like your blog. too bad the people (not all but most) who comment are clearly lacking between the ears. i think mitch melnik said it best. you guys are the reason why shanahan and other marquis free-agents didn’t want and will never want to come here. why did sammy get 3.5mil per year: because we have to vastly over pay just to get players to play in this city. shame on you all.
February 19, 2007 pm28 10:31 pm

Stop blaming le Bob!
Newsflash, people: Montreal is a great place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to play there! Players who have a choice don’t want to play in Montreal. That includes English Canadians and French Canadians players too so the ideas of those who say dump Euros and just sign French Canadian players are completely out to lunch. You also cannot currently build the Habs on UFAs and/or any veteran who has the potential to waive trades.
The team that the Habs have to beat to ever have a chance to win the cup in the next five years are the Pittsburgh Penguins (or the Kansas City whatevers.) In order to match that team in the foreseeable future, you need a bunch of young prospects type who will be peaking together at the same time in the next 3-5 years.
I love Souray, but I am not sure that he alone is someone that you could build a team around. He is not Martin Brodeur or Sidney Crosby. Carey Price is Montreal’s future. If the Habs can get a couple of quality prospects that will be at their career peak in the next 3-5 years for Souray, they should do it. It makes sense. Souray’s trade value is at its zenith right now.
February 19, 2007 pm28 10:43 pm
Just think guys after next tuesday we will all know where this team stands and in what direction it is going
February 19, 2007 pm28 10:50 pm
Frank not only is SOURAY a better player with a way better shot”100mph+” than THAT *** KABERLE,Souray is a leader ,something Kabfagrle is not. Hope your enjoying the 40th anniversary of the last time the maplequeers won anything and remember to take small bites Toronto fans ,even so, your team will choke its traditional,LOL, HA HA HA H A HA ………

Watching an interview with Marty Brodeur Yesterday on SNY 360, he was asked “Did you ever envy Rangers fan support and would he like to be across the river some nights?” Marty’s response was “No I love i
