Habs and Sens: 5 games left
-
The Canadiens travel down the road to play in Ottawa tonight. A place that hasn’t been so friendly to them as of late.
The big question is, how long can the Canadiens keep winning? With 5 consecutive wins, they are right in the thick of the race and even a 6th place finish is a possibility.
On the other hand, an 11th place finish is not too far fetched either.
How far can they push their current streak? 6 wins? 7 wins? More? You have to believe the Canadiens are aware of their situation, and will be ready to compete. The same way they have in their past five games.
This weekend will be tough one with Buffalo following tomorrow night in Montreal. A split this weekend and 2/4 points would probably be considered a good weekend.
But dealing the Senators and Sabres both a loss, would be pretty inspiring and confidence boosting heading into the post season.

- goalie : Though I have supported Halak a lot this year, the decision was to keep both goalies. So, I really hope that Carey too is playing well going into the playoffs, that we make the playoffs and both goalies are at the top of their game. Put Carey in for the next few games and see how he plays!
- Senet1 : bigger that he covers more of the net. Being bigger price tends to loose the puck in his feet, most tall goalies have that problem. But is is one that more experience helps them improve on that weakness. With two more years of development Price is still the goalie of the future, if not the present.
- Senet1 : Well the more HALAK plays the more other teams will find his weaknesses and if he does not improve on those weakness he will not be as affective in a long run. I have notived that last three games that the goals scored on him many of the shooters are going high on him. Being a smaller goalie he is more vulnerable. Don't be surprised if Halak only onl makes it part way through a playoff series and then Price will be back in net. Price weakness is also high shots but he is so much bigger that h
- Senet1 : I have to admit I am over joyed at no ndgatives coming out of this game. One thing I could not figure out, when Gomez and Gionta saw AK46 deek the TO goalie and go 5 hole why they didn't try the same thing is beyond me. That is obviously his weakness. Goalie I am concerned about that too , only good part about it there aRE NO SHOOTOUTS IN THE PLAYOFFS.
- goalie : I am more than a little concerned that the Lafs exposed Halak's inability to stop a player who dekes to Halak's glove hand side. He played those dekes very poorly.
- rocky : The leafs played a strong game and have some pretty deadly shootout threats. We did not lose anyone to injury and that game could have went either way. Now how is that for a positive spin on things eh?
- rocky : I hate to admit this, but I think Andrei Kostitsyn is poised to break his slump. He still skates like a turd, but I just have a feeling. If we get out of this game with no major injuries to key players I will be happy win or lose.
- Senet1 : Mst's I think if they can sign Markov to an extension then they can make move on some of the other defenceman before they become UFA. Hammer is a prime example and likewise so is Gil. Somehow I feel that there is something wrong with a one year contract like Mara's where he can be paid for not playing due to injury and then the team pays his bills and he can leave and go UFA without making up the salary. To me a contract should force a player to play a minimum of 50 games or healthy scatches
- Senet1 : Jagr is a strange player, lots of talent but he has lost his heart and all it is about is money. Edmonton would be better off using the money elsewhere.
- goalie : Rumor has it that the Oilers will be signing Jaromir Jagr to a very $$$$ 3 year contract. Makes sense because Jagr doesn't really want to play on a team that is a contender....so Oilers are a good possibility.
- goalie : I agree with Senet. Plex has been our best player this year. He hasn't been hurt for any long periods and he has done the job. He deserves to be our highest paid player. I sure hope that Markov rebounds next year. I find the Russian players very hard to read as to how they like it on a team and what their plans are going to be.
- Senet1 : To me it is hard not to pay Plex at least Cammy's money. He won't score as many goals but game in and game out Plex has been there and really, he has stayed healthy????
- Mats Naslund : Kesler $5m for 6 years.. 1 point seperates him and Plex in the standings.. Pretty good benchmark?
- Mats Naslund : I guess La presse is reporting that PG is talking extension with Markov's people.
- Mats Naslund : Boston and NY did us a huge solid last night by blowing it. 1 point out of 5th with 11 games to go.
- Mats Naslund : Might be a little sneaky, but what if we made Markov the captain - he would have a hard time leaving as a UFA. Hammrlik's $$ is Markov's in a year. We'll have the $$ to sign him and another UFA. I think I also like BUF in the first round although Miller scares the bajezus out of me. NJ after that.
- Senet1 : may lose him to UFA?? We make up the cap space with Laraque's salary, and the trade of one of are large defenceman salaries.
- Senet1 : There are four contracts that are a must for our GM needs to get done. Plek we need to give him a raise say $5.5M Our two goalies each in the neighbourhood $3M but perhaps the more important contract is Markov's he is not a UFA this year but if we agreed to renegoitate his contract a year earlier for say a raise to $6M next year and $7M for two more years then we may be able to get hims signed for at least 3 or 4 more years. If we let his contract expire and he become a UFA in 2011 then we may
- Senet1 : In fact I knew that I had to play washington, I would rather take them out in the first round.
- Senet1 : Well the one thing that does not matter is our record against any of these teams during the season. This is a much different team than the one we saw play during the majority of the season. Secondly, if I was going to pick a team to play it would be one with weaker goaltending. Right now if I had to pick it would either be Pittsburg or NJ although Washington can be had if Theodore does not play above his head. I believe that any team that can score 4 goals a game has a chance to beat Washing
- goalie : NJ would be my second choice followed by Pens OR Caps - don't think it much matters. No easy pickings Habs!
- goalie : Well the good news is that we're playing much better now than at times during the year. The Habs MUST play their bestagainst ANY of these teams to have a chance. We lost three staraight to the Pens, the Caps scare me because they have talent, NJ have improved greatly but we have played well vs them. I think we only beat Buf once but all but one game was very close. I guess I'd take my chances vs ther Sabres as I think our style matches up well against them.If we could beat Miller we could win.
- Mats Naslund : Unless we see a miracle, MON will be a 5-8 seed. So who between WAS, PIT, BUF, or NJ do you want in the 1st round?
- Mats Naslund : Metro is 35. I cant see them giving more than 1yr. He definitely deserves a spot next year though.
- Avatar37 : Senet - I agree, Metropolit is impressive and Metro and Moen always seem to come up clutch. I really hope they sign him to a 3-4 year deal.
- goalie : Isn't it a lot more interesting and fun when our team is playing well and on a run!
- Senet1 : So we have a good third line the fourth line is playing responsible hockey and the first line is generating offense as well as controling the play. Plek is playing hard and still managing to get a goal here and there so if Cammy can get back maybe we have four solid lines. Right now Martin is rolling the four lines well and I think we are tiring out the other teams.
- Senet1 : I also am impressed with our fourth line Metro, Lapierre and Darche. They are playing some productive minutes killing time and tieing up the other team in their zone.
- Senet1 : This line sort of reminds me of the Gainey line, they always scored the big goals in tight games. Believe it or not when the game was tied 1-1 I thought is is about time our third line got a goal and a few minutes later they did. It is become a regular thing this line.
- rocky : Moore brings great puck possession in the offensive zone and Segie can finish plays. Nice to watch, they are smoking third lines on other teams right now.
- Senet1 : I agree his brother is working out really well with Moore and Moan. They have offensive abilities and at the same time are very responsible defensively.
- rocky : He has talent you know, but just no intensity or desire for hockey at this stage. He should watch his brother right now and do his best to emulate him.
- rocky : That would s*ck. They should sit his ass.
- Senet1 : Yea I agree, because if not either Pyatt or Darche will be sent back down maybe both?
- goalie : I must say I'm impressed with ther attitude , effort and quality of play the Habs are exhibiting. I didn't think they'd pull it off this year. A playoff spot is certainly there for the taking. WAY TO GO BOYS and KEEP IT UP. Thius is a whole lot better team for the fans to be cheering on also!!!

Beat them both. This will be like a playoff game tonight and we all know how Ottawa fairs in the playoffs. As for Buffalo, we always compete well agianst them even when Abby is lettin gin every second shot. 2 for 2.
March 30, 2007 pm31 1:23 pm
The Habs are on fire! Halak is hot! Koivu and Kovalev are playing well. The rookies are skating and hitting. The Canadiens currently have more to play for than either the Sens and the Sabres. I will guess the Habs get at least 3 points in the next two games just as long as Dawg doesn’t shave and/or bathe.
March 30, 2007 pm31 1:31 pm
I should get game ticket behind the Ottawa net tonight. For two periods he will not see a thing. His eyes would be watering too much from da smell.
Ummmm. Smell of defeat or smell of Sick Rotten Carcass…
Yes, we have to come out with guns a blazing this weekend. When we take two games this weekend. It will surely frighten the **** out of the teams ahead of us……..GOG HABS GO………COME ON BOY’S.
March 30, 2007 pm31 1:33 pm
See I stink so much I can’t see to type right.
March 30, 2007 pm31 2:32 pm
I can see tonight’s events unfolding as follows:
- The Habs beat the Sens in overtime.
- Carolina, with a last delusional gasp that they can make the top eight, will defeat Tampa in regulation.
- The Isles fall to Buffalo, and in doing so, eliminate themselves from the playoff picture entirely.
Or at least that was what I saw in a dream last night.
March 30, 2007 pm31 2:46 pm
These next two games will be huge and Montreal has to be ready to compete in both of them. The Habs have to treat these games as if they are playoff games and they have to come out with some fire and intensity. If the Canadiens can somehow win in Ottawa tonight, a place that has not been too friendly to them as of late, then that would be good for their confidence going into the game tomorrow against the Sabres. They have been playing well as of late so hopefully that can transfer over to the game tonight and tomorrow where they play the same way they have been playing lately. I hope the Canadiens can win both of the games but even a split and 2 or 3 out of a possible 4 points would be good as well. Go Habs Go!!

Got my personalized jersey back from the cleaners today, and am on my way to the bar later to ruffle some leaf feathers. I’d do it to a sens fan or three, excepting the fact that I don’t know any. So I’ll just have to beat up on the leaf fans. None of them have my superior knowledge of all things NHL, so it’ll be like taking candy from a baby. That said, I’m recording the game to watch when I get home, and I will thus try to avoid seeing the score.
Yep, a tough weekend for the habs, but I got faith, mostly. My biggest worry is Carbo annointing Halak for the rest of the season. Not because Halak is bad or such. It’s just that every time Carbo names a #1 goalie lately, the guy gets shelled his next game. Just before Halak got these 5 in a row, he said Abbysieve was #1. Thank god he never stuck to his guns on THAT one…
March 30, 2007 pm31 3:02 pm
Montreal has came to far to quit now. The playoffs are just a stones throw away. We can see it and smell it. We can almost touch it. It is so close. We have to jump over a few more hurdles to get there.
Pull out all the stops boys. Don’t stop that train until be have arrived at “Playoff Station”.
This train that we are on the is the non-stop express to the playoffs…
God help him who should get in the way………….YEAH BABY YEAH…………..
March 30, 2007 pm31 3:15 pm
I agree that a split this weekend would be a success. Two or three points will probably be enough for the Habs to hold their place in eighth. But I’d rather they pull ahead enough to assure that their last game in Toronto isn’t a ‘do or die’ game. I don’t have a great feeling about that one. The Leafs are finding ways to win or earn points when they need to.
March 30, 2007 pm31 4:02 pm
Much as it irks me to believe it, I’m thinkin’ the same thing, Joseph. We can’t give those pukes any breathing room on us. we have to win as many as possible…
March 30, 2007 pm31 4:20 pm
Quite honestly, I wouldn’t care of their last game was against the Flyers – they shouldn’t leave anything to chance. Secure that playoff spot now, and leave that final game as being little more than a playoff tune-up, and possibly a battle for positioning.

I like the habs song. i hope it gets played alot Saturday and Tuesday night!
also, the habs should feel at home in Ottawa, because they have lots of fans there too. You know they come from Hull, Quebec, right across the bridge. I hope they they make lots of noise for the habs tonight.
March 30, 2007 pm31 6:49 pm
You know they come from Hull, Quebec,
There’s no such place anymore. The people there decided to change the name.
It was embarassing enough to live in the armpit of the country let alone being told to “go to Hull”.Your province has the dumbest names for places such as Turdso,Lac de Tose, and Habsshitcootieville!!!1
Habs suck and leafs blow…shave your girlfriends moustaches before the game…
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:22 pm
Hey Duff lick my stinky balls will ya.. Come back around 9:00pm tonight when your Sens are get their Asses kicked………..GO HABS GO.
Don’t start something boy that you can’t fiinish.
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:31 pm
Duff is a fan of …? who cares. What a stiff. If you came here to talk smack about the habs, at least talk about the habs. What’s next, a lame poutine and pepsi crack? Beat it, lameoid. Men are talking here, not boys.
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:33 pm
Hey we got Leaf nation on our side tonight….are you from Lac Stinky Balls? I hear the women are almost as good looking as the deer there.
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:36 pm
Actually, I’m from Toronto. Leaf Nation on your side? I’m sure that’s comforting.
Your sportsnet announcers suck. Just listening to them now, I think I’ll switch to the french broadcast–at least they know what they are talking about.
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:39 pm
A Habs fan from Toronto? You must be a cross dresser.
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:43 pm
Are you coming on to me Duff? I don’t swing that way: you’ll have to live with the subsequent dissapointment you must now have…
Perhaps it’ not just cross dressers you like though. What was that you said about deer? Let’s see… animals, cross dressers, and probably **** too. That’s quite the resume you have there. Are all people from ottawa so prolific?
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:46 pm
N I I N I M A A ???
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:49 pm
This is a good practice game for the Sens .Montreal is almost good enough to be a minor league team.
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:52 pm
AAH maybe we should put HUET in ,fu@KIN cO@SU@kI&@ MoTHERFU@KIN&,EH !
March 30, 2007 pm31 7:55 pm
Hey Duff,go back too sucking ***, idiot !!!
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:00 pm
Huet never passed a physical, and won’t be re-evaluated until monday. And Duff: We’ll spot you 2 goals like we’ve been doing lately, not to worry. Cause we can.
2-1 now. Perhaps you should go cuddle up to one of your leaf fan buddies for mutual support.
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:01 pm
Say hello to my little friend SOURAY, CHOKE ON IT MUFF!!!
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:09 pm
You can put your teeth back in Tribaby ,I’m done with your mouth.
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:19 pm
Can someone please explain to me, why this team NEVER shows up in the 1st period, of ANY GAME? And why do they ONLY START PLAYING,when we are 2 goals down? And why, in such an important game, don’t they skate, or check?
There is absolutely NO CHECKING BY THE HABS! They are letting Ottawa come out, untouched? IS THIS THE TYPE OF PRACTICES CARBO HAS BEEN RUNNING ALL WEEK?
CARBO should have taken a timeout, when we were only 1 goal down.
His inexperience is showing!
Guys, we must have more than 1 SWISS player. WE MUST! that would explain why our D looks like SWISS CHEESE!
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:21 pm
I’m sorry for my rants, but this “NO SHOW” in the 1st period of every game, is getting VERY VERY OLD! not to mention FRUSTRATING AS HELL!
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:24 pm
Every team trades their slowest player to the Habs. They’re too slow to realize the conspiracy….just like tricolouringbook.
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:26 pm
Another period where the habs did not show up. You Hab fans seem to know alot about hockey and the Habs. Tell me. Why in the F_ck does Montreal do this every single F_cking first period? Why F_cking Why?
I’m Pissed. F_ck this ****. I’m going to take along hot shower. My wife needs me more than thi Habd team does.
I’m comming honey just as soon as i take a nice shower..
F_ck I’m pissed………..
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:28 pm
I’m so pissed that I can’t type………F_CK. F_CK, F_CK..
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:29 pm
Judging by what Duff has expressed here, I’d say he’s about fourteen years old. And if he’s not, then he should be ashamed of himself.
Good start, Habs. You’ve had plenty of rest. You knew the importance of these back-to-back games. So what’s your excuse for this poor start? Maddening.
They can’t go thinking that they can get in the habit of spotting two goal leads and then come back and win all the time now. After all, Ottawa is slightly better than the Rangers. They won’t win anything again this season – the big boys in the East will take care of them – but they are a slightly better team.
So, let’s go Habs.
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:31 pm
If you f_ck like you type then your wife will do it without u.
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:38 pm
It looks like the Isles are bein taken out of the equation. That’s good.
I don’t know who should win the Canes/Tampa game if the Habs lose this one. I almost want Tampa to win if that scenario plays out.
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:47 pm
Tonight’s games is: MEN(Ottawa) vs BOYS(Habs)! There is something very wrong with the habs! They’re playing like they DON’T WANT TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!
No desire or effort from them! Pathetic!
March 30, 2007 pm31 8:57 pm
Montreal has been so unpredictable this year. One never knows which Habs team is going to show up from one night to the next.
That being said, regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game, if the ‘determined’ Habs team shows up tomorrow night and beats Buffalo, then they’re still ahead of the game.
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:14 pm
All the makings of a three-point game in Carolina tonight…
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:16 pm
Well boys, not the best forty minutes so far, but the game isn’t over yet, and we’ve seen this team come out from an intermission and completely turn the game around, so don’t give up hope just yet…
Turn it around Habs, you still have twenty minutes.
GO HABS GO!
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:16 pm
Actually, the habs are VERY PREDICTABLE! We know that they NEVER EVER SHOW UP IN THE 1st PERIOD ! And we know they NEVER SHOW UP FOR IMPORTANT GAMES!
That’s the trademark of this year’s team! And you know who’s fault that is?
CARBO! For not preparing or motivating his team!
Like I keep on saying, “THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG INTERNALLY WITH THE HABS”!
I have never seen , over the course of a complete season, a habs team to NOT SHOW UP FOR SO MANY GAMES! Right now, they look like the same team from January and February. Nothing has changed! If they would only skate and check, and play with heart, they could have beaten Ottawa, but instead they prefer to take the lazy and selfish way out!
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:19 pm
Easy chicken little, fat lady isn’t singing yet
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:20 pm
If the habs luck out and make the playoffs, it won’t be because of their great play. It will be, because other contending teams are losing, and the habs will BACK IN! Toronto is much better than us! There is no doubt in my mind they will beat us next Saturday, and probably finish ahead of us!
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:21 pm
The Habs blew a 5 on 3 & a 4 minute straight powerplay. They will not come back a win this game that is a 100% given. It is not to be.
Well it was to good to be true to win 6 in a row and show everyone that we mean bussiness.
It was fun while it lasted. I do not have much hope for the game Saturday night. Montreal will probally loose 3 in a row now. It is very dishearting. They should have came out tonight on fire. But like every 1st period they came out with lead in thier pants.
Well tonight is not a total loss. I had a nice refreshing shower. I am clean, I smell good, I feel good. My wife came back and I got my job back.
Where was my head to put the Habs ahead of my family. I was foolish.
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:22 pm
Ok, blasphemer, time to go back to a Laffs blog
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:26 pm
Its really sad how quickly some people will turn on their team just because they aren’t perfect… Its too bad you guys are so quick to give up on the team… Its a wonder why the Habs fall apart, when some of their fans give up on them over a period. I realize we all want our team to do well and play like they’re on fire every night, but proclaiming the apocalypse so soon is just a joke.
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:31 pm
GOALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That one was for the true-believers!!!!
Eat that Ottawa!
GO HABS GO!
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:31 pm
OOOOOH YEAHHHHH BBBBBABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:32 pm
Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The Habs Scored. I guess they’ll have more fans now.
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:37 pm
OH RAY OH RAY OHRAYOHRAY OH RAY OH RAY OHRAYOHRAY
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:40 pm
Duff??? What the f_ck is that? The best you could come up with was some imaginary beer! Wow, can I be like you? Go back to the sh!ttiest town in the country loser.
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:42 pm
Go back to the sh!ttiest town in the country loser.
I don’t live in Montreal.
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:46 pm
wow, that was witty… did you have to go to an atlas to figure that one out… I didn’t know they were teaching geography in the first grade… You really must think you’re cool, being able to talk smack on a blog site… crawl home loser
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:54 pm
“DuffMan, O yeah!!!! DuffMan is thrusting in the Direction of the problem –> Ottawa’s Playoff Record” O Yeah!!!!”
DuffMan is a ree-tard, O yeah!
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:57 pm
OOps
March 30, 2007 pm31 9:59 pm
Predictable starts, yes. But they’ve shown up for some pretty important games lately, hence the 5-0 run, and 7 of the last 8.
I think tomorrow’s game will probably decide their season. If they win, they’re in. If they lose, they’re hanging on by a thread.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:01 pm
For all you Souray lovers, you can thank him for Ottawa’s 4th and deciding goal! So thank you Souray, for being THE WORST DEFENCEMAN IN THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!! I only pray to god he won’t return next year! And he can take ****** Bouillon and Dandenault with him! They are by far the WORST D MEN IN THE LEAGUE! And those who don’t like the negativity,: MAYBE IF THE HABS SHOWED UP FOR ONCE IN 1ST PERIODS, WE WOULDN’T HAVE TO VENT OUR FRUSTRATIONS AT THIS UNDERACHIEVING LAZY PLAYERS! The scoreboard says it all!!!!
Enjoy the golf, habs! That’s all you care about!
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:02 pm
OncEaHaB:
When you are getting paid millions of $$$ a year, YES they should come out on fire every night.
Good game Emery you played good. I give credit where credit is due. Montreal had enough chances to get a few goals tonight.
Again, the goals on Halak he had not much of a chance on tonight. Boy our D-Men are good aren’t they. They are pathetic. Even win they won they sucked.
Mark my words the Habs will go into a slump again. Some one prove me wrong.
Say what you like about the Leafs, at least when they lost they got a point.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:03 pm
In the offseason, Gainey better go and get some D men, or same thing will happen next year!
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:06 pm
That’s ok boys, win tomorrow and all is good, on worries. Two goalpost stop us today, thats all. DID MUFF SAY POOPS ?

Posted on March 30th, 2007 at 9:59 pm. About ‘Habs and Sens: 5 games left’.

I think tomorrow’s game will probably decide their season. If they win, they’re in. If they lose, they’re hanging on by a thread.
They won one maybe important game. If tomorrow’s game will decide thier season then the season is over.
Tonight was the most important game and they blew it. They will go on a loosing streak now.
OUR DEFENCE IS F_CKING PATHETIC.
We have no right to make fun of the Leaf Fans. We are supporting a ****** *** team as well. Actually the Leafs show more guts than us. The Leafs deserve to make the playoffs more than the Habs do.
I hope my predictions are wrong. But I am so tired of this. I really am. I have no fight left.
The fans loose not the players. The fans have the heart notn the players.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:16 pm
No, McCabe is the worst defensemen in the league. But that’s of minor importance.
What’s of greater importance is that both are defensemen for the two teams that will very likely be battling it out for the eighth and final playoff spot. With the Canes and Isles all but dead, it appears that Toronto is the team that stands between the Habs and a post season, and it also appears that the Leafs are the far more consistent team right now.
That final game in Toronto is going to be bigger than I had hoped it would be. ****.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:23 pm
It’s over boys. Mark my words. They won their 5 in a row. They were lucky to do that. Bash me if you want. I don’t give a flying f_ck.
“To the Ottawa and Leaf Fans that I made fun of I am sorry”.
Habs fans have no right to bash anyother fans cause we are no better ourselves.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:25 pm
CANADIENS-DAWG:
I have every right to make fun of Leafs fans, regardless of whether their team is better than ours this season. They are some of the most pretentious fans I’ve come across, and unjustifiably so considering the 40-year draught and overpriced seats. Leas fans = hopelessly loyal suckers, as far as I’m concerned.
As to the Habs, I actually stated that their season was over more than two weeks ago. So the recent surge has been nothing short of a pleasant surprise. If they fall short, then they accomplish what I had expected – no surprises. If they prove everyone wrong and get the eighth spot, then I’m thrilled.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:29 pm
The way we are going it will be the same for us. The Habs fans and the Leaf fans are both tared with the same brush. We are both pathetic.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:31 pm
Thanks for the fun tonight guys.I was hoping you won the game tonight so the Leafs would be out.I will be cheering for you from here on in.GO HABS GO!!!! Leafs Suck!!!!1….so do you but win anyways.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:32 pm
I don’t know why I embarass myself by prasing the Habs.
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:40 pm
here’s the probable finish; NYR-8th place, TB-7th place, TORONTO-8th place!
HABS IN THE TRASH WHERE THEY BELONG! (especially their Dmen)!
How can a team win without a defence, and without effort, heart and desire?
We have NONE OF THOSE INGREDIENTS! Gainey has his work cut out for him!
Like I always say, : ” If you put in the effort, play 60 minutes, and give 100% effort,” then I can take the loss. But when there’s NO EFFORT, NO HEART, NO DESIRE! That really really upsets me.
KOVALEV said:” I’m going to take this team on my back to win”! KOVALEV was INVISIBLE TONIGHT! Have you noticed, that when Kovalev is a no show(most of the year), then we lose. That proves my point, that KOVALEV IS TRULY A CANCER ON THIS TEAM! He needs to go, and so does Koivu,(too small and doesn’t score enough). This team is mediocre at best.
TORONTO IS MUCH BETTER THAN US AND SHOWS UP FOR EVERY GAME, AND PLAYS WITH HEART! I have to give them alot of credit. We shouldn’t make fun of them, because they’re the team who will make the playoffs, NOT US!
March 30, 2007 pm31 10:53 pm
So, with the Leafs and Rangers both taking 8th spot, does that mean that 6th will be open for the Habs? Is 6th the trash spot?
March 30, 2007 pm31 11:04 pm
Sorry, I meant NYR will take 6th spot!
We get the bobby prize, for the worst defensive team, and the most HEARTLESS team! We’ll finish in 10th place!
March 30, 2007 pm31 11:31 pm
Once again, the vets let us down. Koivu didn’t complete half of his passes, and he coughed up the puck for one of the goals that we blamed Souray for. Come to think of it, Koivu set up at least 10 of Ottawa’s shots tonite.
Dandenault played his usual self, the man hasn’t completed a pass in a game in what, well since the juniors I bet, I’m talking triple A. Honestly, how he got on the team and stayed on, is a mystery.
Johnson was pathetic, Koivu was pummeled to death and Ryder let us down with his hooks, guess where he learned that from? Montreal was outmuscled, outshot.
Practically everyone on the team played the old, “let me set up the shot for you” in Montreal’s zone, they were just pathetic they couldn’t clear the puck for luck of trying, in fact how many NHL games do you see a one on four end up in a goal? That is just pathetic!
Dandenault and Bouillon are just plain ****! Streit and Markov couldn’t finish a pass either. In fact the habs were horrible, except for Lapierre’s passes and Kostysn….even Kovalev couldn’t make a decent pass tonite!
At this rate Montreal will play itself out of a playoff spot. To finish it off, Carbo will rely on Murray and Huet, and play Dandenault and Bouillon all night long, only to see us outscored one more time against Buffalo!
When Gainey could bring up some muscle from Hamilton, what does he do? Nothing! The absent Helicopter Chartering GM, hey Bob time to get down to earth and actually do a GM job, get rid of Dandenault and Bouillon, at least try Huet in Hamilton first before you sink the habs one more time you vulture!
March 31, 2007 pm31 12:06 am
That’s it! that’s enough. No more blaming Gainey for not having enough call ups. Time to educate you on league rules.
The Habs have a set roster at the beginning of the year, After the trade deadline, there is a maximum of call-ups you can have with no injury’s. Guess what, the Habs are right up against that limit! Even if they bench Dandenault, Boullion, Kovy, Koivu and every other player you hate, they still can’t call up any of those players cause there are no injury’s!
Holy ****, find out the rules of the league holy ****!
And if the Habs lose two more games it’s time to start looking forward to the draft in Columbus.
March 31, 2007 pm31 12:57 am
Yes we should be blaming Gainey for not having enough call ups. Other teams bend the rules like crazy. Supposedly this was supposed to be a new NHL, yet you still have just as much violence, just as many other teams calling up their reserves injury or not. Stop giving Gainey all the friggen breaks like you know the rule book inside out because you don’t! What, because Shanahan didn’t like the plush leather in the chopper, it was the wrong color we can’t fault Gainey for that? More like, we have a GM who courts his players not with promises of ice time, advancement, he courts them with: a helicopter ride, a suburb potential home location, heck even TIVO sets, all the wrong friggen stuff!
No wonder we are where we are. Enough of this “read the rule book” and next let’s hear you say, LeJournal kidnapped Gainey in Nashville and that is why we didn’t get a superstar, right after the tax man scared away the stars and the Bill 101 secret police in cahoots with the anglo bigots of Montreal scared off the talent! Geezuz Bejesus honestly listen to yourselves!
The only reason why we don’t have the rookies in Montreal is because Gainey doesn’t want to look like the fool he is for signing crappy players like Johnson, Ninnima, Dandenault and Bouillon!
March 31, 2007 pm31 6:50 am
I didn’t see the game but if there was no effort and back to the useless Jeckyl and Hyde team…then there is nothing anyone can say or do. If they had the chances and didn’t finish off plays or better yet couldn’t set each other up then a loss is inevitable. Ottawa has the fire power to put the other team down. The only way to combat that is to score on your chances and to hit and take players out and basically grind out a win. By the looks of things this is what might be required against the Leafs.
As for all the talk of not signing players etc…where who else should Gainey of signed. The rookies…need time and yes if they are playing like **** then a benching would show there is a misguided twit on the bench and we need to straighten them out. However, when they are all playing like ****, it’s hard to find the right spark plug. It’s up to the players to go out and hit, not get penalties but one play at a time to win each hit each play or at least take out the player.
Anyways, losing these two games will hurt if the other contending teams tie/win. They made it hard on themselves but that’s what we fans have to go with. I just wish they continue to give 60 minutes of effort for the remaining games.
As far as Dandenault and Bouillon are concerned maybe it’s time to mix-up the defensive pairings. Try generating something!! Let’s go, come on! Go Habs Go!
March 31, 2007 pm31 8:22 am
That’s not precisely true, Habs#1 (post 71). There is no limit to call ups, but there is a cap on roster sizes. One of the reasons that we are unable to call anyone up right now is Gainey’s inexplicable decision not to send Samsonov down. If he’s down there, we can call up another guy. The roster sizes are increased after the trade deadline, and much of the lack of manouvering is due to limited cap space.
Samsonov should be in the minors, not the pressbox. That’s where he should be next season as well. I’m on record as saying he shouldn’t be bought out, and I stick to that. If Lamorillo can bury heartless former stars in Malakov and Mogilny, surely Gilette with his deep pockets can afford to bury Samsonov. Even one more player would be beneficial, as an injection of some youthful enthusiasm and energy could only help our cause; and Samsonov isn’t doing anyone any good right now, himself included.
What sickens me is the sure knowledge that he will be bought out, regardless…
I haven’t been a Carbo basher for most of the year, though I’ve had my moments where his line juggling has had me pulling out what’s left of my hair (not much). That said, I’m finding it more and more difficult to blame the players for the poor starts that seem to occur EVERY GAME. I don’t know if it is this defensive style they are playing, or if it is a lack of proper preparation/motivation. The players are responsible for their own play, true, but this kind of lackadaisical play happens virtually every game, and it seems as though there is never an effort until the 2nd or 3rd period(s).
If these were isolated occurences, I’d blame certain players. Since it occurs every game, I think the coaching staff is to blame. Some changes have to be made to ensure that a game wide effort in both ends of the ice is achieved, every night. Whether this means tinkering with the system, or wholesale changes, I can’t say. I only know that if we’d played the entire game like the 3rd period, we would have won.
It’s also wearying to hear Carbo complaining about this all the time. Stop crying about it and implement some changes Guy. Before it’s tee-time.
March 31, 2007 pm31 8:27 am
Typical.
The Habs lose one game and you all are screaming and whining about every player. Give your heads a shake, you idiots act like the Canadiens should win 82 games a season.
Granted, every game’s a must win now but geez, cut the team some slack, they’ll rebound big tonight vs. Buffalo. Besides, do any of you think Toronto, Carolina or the Isles are gonna go undefeated here on in??? GET REAL and QUIT WHINING.

SMILER2729 SAID IT ALL. WHY WOULD WE LOSE FAITH NOW? WE HAVE COME THIS FAR AND MOST OF YOU ARE GIVING UP.THIS SEASON IS NOT ABOUT BRINGING UP ROOKIES FROM HAMILTON WITH 4 GAMES LEFT ITS NOT ABOUT GAINEY OR CARBO WITH 4 GAMES LEFT ITS ALL ABOUT BELIEVEING IN OUR HABS WITH 4 GAMES LEFT.I BELIEVE.DO YOU?
March 31, 2007 pm31 10:27 am
I sure wish the Habs would call up Kyle Chipchura but I guess the ‘Dogs need him. We could use his work ethic and determination cuz he is the next Kirk Muller.
March 31, 2007 pm31 10:36 am
Both side’s are right, but to be honest, Habs fans HAVE BEEN arguing for years now because of all the poor end results. This kind of thing rarely happens to Base ball storied N.Y. Yankees and is not acceptable in Montreal where Hockey and Christ are at a tie for pasion estee’!And yes ,with bad results ,management and coaches are to blame, their the one’s that throw the team together ,period !So, there is no excuses when the proof is in the pudding, there’s only room for big time improvement. The HABS SHOULD BE NEER THE FINNALS EVER YEAR ,WITH A GREAT SHOWING DURING THE SEASON AND YES,IT IS THE HABS GOD GIVEN RIGHT!!! Any way, lets just hope we eat buffalo tonite,we’ll see ? Go Habs
March 31, 2007 pm31 12:55 pm
We’re not upset because they lost last night; we’re upset because of THE WAY THEY LOST-BY NOT SHOWING UP, AND NO EFFORT! Don’t you guys get it?
How can we support a team that doesn’t try, and doesn’t give a damn?
If they give 100% effort, and still lose, then it’s because we just weren’t good enough. but THERE ARE NO EXCUSES FOR LACK OF EFFORT IN SUCH AN IMPORTANT GAME! I think the Montreal Canadiens should change their name to the
Montreal NOSHOWS. That fits their style of play!
You can’t constantly be invisible in the 1st period, and expect to win. Every damn game, they’re behind 2-0, by the end of the 1st period. It’s been that way for most of the season. We’re sick and tired of it. And can someone tell me, when the habs actually bombed a team during the season, ie. 6-0?
Try never! That’s the problem. They’re always content to just get by.
And those recent wins we’re against sub par teams, ie. Boston, Washington, NYR.
So guys, the truth is, we’re not a good team, and certainly not in the same echilon as teams like NJ, Ottawa,Pittsburgh…
I don’t see us getting in, because the habs just DON’T WANT IT BAD ENOUGH!
Otherwise THEY WOULD PUT IN EFFORT FOR 60 MINUTES!
THis team is NOT CAPABLE OF PLAYING 60 MINUTES, AND THEY DON”T GIVE A DAMN!
So why should we care, if they don’t?

You know people, there are some of you on this site who are right that we should not make fun of the Leafs because IT IS TRUE that the Leafs SHOW UP for every game and they at least show heart, something Montreal rarely, if ever does. They never show any heart in any game and if they want to make the playoffs, they need to start showing some heart in these important games. They need to wake up and not fall behind 2-0 in every game. Just because they fell behind Boston and New York by two goals does not mean they will come from behind in every game. They should not expect to come from 2 goals behind in every game and win it every time. I want Montreal to show some heart and play with more emotion in BIG GAMES, something the Leafs do a lot and Montreal never does!

THE WORST FANS ARE: those who are in self denial
those who refuse to see the truth
those who gave their team praise, even when the team shows NO EFFORT and no HEART
those who criticize other fans, who would rather see reality, than false hopes and mirages
those who insult and denigrate others for being honest and giving constructive criticism
Live and learn people, and look at the facts and the product on the ice.
the habs are a bunch of over paid, underachieving athletes, who care less about you and me, and the playoffs. The almighty $$ is more impoortant to them.
Even if we plead for them to play 60 minutes,it goes in 1 ear, and out the other. They are mutes to our pleas. Golf is their important game, and money the same!
March 31, 2007 pm31 4:13 pm
at least leaf fans have a team they can be proud of!
You shouldn’t throw stones at glass houses! I don’t like the leafs, but I have nothing against their fans. They’re just want their team to win, same as us.
March 31, 2007 pm31 4:18 pm
Does being loyal mean that whatever garbage is displayed escially while losing that I’m to say yup that’s my team!!
If so, that’s what makes me a Maple Leaf fan!!!
Garbage is garbage, and this version of the Habs has displayed this throughout the seond 2/3 mark of the season. When there’s a win we celebrate but when you do it because of luck or poor play by the other team…that win is simply hiding the wreckless play that eventually’s going to bite you. Here in this saga there are way too many faults that no one can pick one area and only one area for improvement. There are just so many holes….
The biggest problem is energy and putting in the effort!!! This is a gimme or it should be. When we don’t get it, guess what we deserve better! Especially our glorified jersey, it commands that discipline with the expectation to win. No where is just being average acceptable. That is Toronto Maple Leaf syndrome.
You can stomach when you see players dump in and not chase, you see a team mate get hammered and you skate away. You let your goalie fend off two players while you stride in after the play or you bend over because you’re ****. Or you take stupid penalty after stupid penalty and expect to get high fives. You have control of the puck and you blanketly spray the puck to no where specificly only to get picked by the other team’s players or better yet you hand it right to an opponent. Hey now that’s a winner! Let’s sign him up please. what’re we waiting for!!!
No way smuck…That’s a Leaf for you. And the great “Wait till next year mantra” from the Maple Leaf fans. No thanks!!! When the Canadiens start with these Habits it’s time for big changes. Find the core that’s willing to put in the effort on every shift and the morons that don’t need to sit out. Or be moved on. Bring up whomever is going to put in that effort. Being loyal has it rewards, we cheer and celebrate all our wins and losses too but when the effort’s there otherwise you may as well be wearing Blue and white.
Let’s get the spirited bunch of guys that want to win…I’ll wish the team take on the Cinderella story for 2006-07 but that means they have to be willing to put forth that extra effort. Come on, just four more games…and then, just maybe, we go to the dance!!! Go Habs Go!!
March 31, 2007 pm31 4:59 pm
First of all, the Maple Leafs do NOT always show up for their games. Hence their present struggle to get into eighth spot – a spot currently occupied by the Habs – in their final five games.
Secondly, what an emotional rollercoaster ride this ongoing commentary makes. My goodness. I’m frustrated that the Habs have been a bipolar team this season, yes. I’m also disappointed in their seemingly care free attitude toward success at times, yes. But it’s certainly to going to ruin my life in any way, or to a less extreme, send me jumping off the bandwagon. Some fans need to relax and enjoy this ride down the final stretch, in my opinion.
Incidentally, I wonder how the comments will read if the Habs beat Buffalo tonight… a team they’ve played quite well against, and have suffered a couple of unnecessary losses to due entirely to shaky goaltending.
March 31, 2007 pm31 5:03 pm
That’s ‘certainly not going to ruin my life…’
Also, let’s see how the admirable blue and white soldiers do against the Crosby, Malkin and Staal show tonight… co-starring Roberts and Fleury.
March 31, 2007 pm31 6:26 pm
It’s not about 1 game. look at the big picture. I’m not going to be redundent in my views about habs not showing up, or lack of effort or emotion. You know where I stand, and you also know that changes are needed in the offseason to improve habs defence, and scoring. It will take time, and I fully realize that.
All I ask, is that this team be competitive, and compete every night. That’s a very reasonable request. right? I share other hab fans in wanting our team to do well. If it happens, so be it, and if it doesn’t, well there’s always next year. Either way, it will be a long summer for hab fans. I sincerely hope that Gainey can get this team pointed in the wrong direction. I don’t expect much from this team, only to show up!
March 31, 2007 pm31 6:41 pm
Asking that your team shows up every night doesn’t seem like too much to ask, but welcome to the modern world of professional sports, sadly. These guys play for their salaries, themselves, and not the fans. They are corrupted by the politics of professional sports (see Ryan Smyth). If loyality isn’t extinct yet, it’s on the endangered list, a thanks wholly to the business that taints the game(s) we love with ****.
I’m quite sure that fans in Carolina, Tampa, Toronto, Edmonton, etc are feeling the same feelings with regard to their respective teams’ inconsistencies.
That being said, it does grow tiresome watching a team fall short year after year. But hey, at least us Habs fans haven’t been waiting for 40 years or more for our team to do something worthy of celebration. Not yet anyway. It could be a lot worse. When you think about it, 1993 can be considered recent in the scheme of things.
