Playoff Showdown
Leafs and Habs on a Saturday night…. best place to be. Leafs and Habs in the last game of the year, with the last playoff birth on the line - a storybook ending.
Win and you are in.
That’s the message the should be drilled into every Montreal Canadien today.
No hoping for team A to beat team B and team C to lose in regulation - win and you are in.
Win the game.
The Habs control their own playoff destiny and it’s time to see what they are really made of.
For the youngsters that helped propel Montreal into this position, this will be the biggest game of their lives. With everyone in the country and everyone in the hockey world tuned in.
For the veterans, it’s time to see their experience and leadership.
Which of the go-to guys on either team are going to show up and excel?
Koivu -vs- Sundin
Kovalev -vs- Tucker
Raycroft -vs- Huet
Souray -vs- Kaberle
McCabe -vs- Komisarek
Habs -vs- Leafs.
Enjoy.

Important..let’s get the 1st one…it’s as good as a 2-goal lead. Sundin and ass-clown Tucker are slumping. Leep them off the board. Pepper ‘Razer’ Raycroft, cuz he can fold like cheap patio furniture. If the Leafs are`tied, 2-2, 3-3 with 2 minutes to go they will PULL him What a nutty scenerio, huh ?
Go get ‘em Habs..let’s get the kids flying. And Saku and Kovy. You’ve been there before. Let’s step it up!!
Go habs. Make us proud.

GO HABS GO!!! It’s times like these that its great to be a Hockey fan but even more so to be a Habs fan. Habs-nation unites tonight!

This is may go down as one of the biggest games in the most storied rivalry in hockey history and right up there with the biggest in pro sports(Yankees/Red Sox, Celtics/Lakers, Bears/Packers etc.). This may even be one of the biggest games in Habs history.
Will the Habs show up? And which goalie will shut the door? Habs win and they’re in. Couldn’t ask for anything better. This is the best saturday of my young life. I’ve only gotten to see one cup, I want to see another. Tonight is the first step. Go gettem boys. This is your destiny, do you chose to accept it or leave it?

“Habs-nation unites tonight”!
Not if Huet is in the net tonight. Ummmmmmmmmm, lets see how many soft goals Huet will allow tonight. Carbo should go with the one who got them this far. Yes, I HALAK. Go with the hot GOALIE Carbo. Don’t make another mistake. This will be the biggest mistake of the year. A mistake that will cost you a playoff spot.
Yes, I Will be like Joshtm now and repeat my self until I make a point.
You take a look at Huet & Halak’s stats. They are the basically the same. The only thing different is the Sav % & the GAA. Huets is a little better yes.
Huet has 19 wins & 15 losses. That’s 4 more wins than losses.
Halak has 10 wins & 6 losses. That’s 4 more wins than losses.
So based on the trend of the figures, if Halak would have played the same amount of games as Huet their records would both be basically the same.
When Huet lets in that soft goal or goals think of me and what I said.
Remember the old saying “YOU DANCE WITH THE ONE WHO BROUGHT YOU HERE” or something like that……………….
GOOD LUCK HABS YOU WILL NEED IT IF HUET IS IN NET.

Again, this is payback for the Leafs beating us in ‘67… it’s not our fault a meaningful Habs-Leafs game took 40 years but the Laffs decided to suck for past FOUR DECADES!
No lead is safe tonight, gotta keep keepin’ on til Raysoft folds. Let’s watch as he ducks again out of the way of Sheldon’s slap shots! And let’s hope Begin, Lapierre and especially little Frankie Bouillon hammer that Darcy clown around like a rag doll. Pressure, pressure, keep the Leaf defencemen from even getting near our blueline!
And for crying out loud let’s shut the pro-Leafs CBC HNIC crew up once and for all this season!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HABS!

Anyone else out there a bit preoccupied today? I have been useless for anything except count the minutes until puck drops and talking to random strangers wearing habs gear. GO HABS whether Huet or Halek is standing in front of the cage! It is hard to argue the importance of either player.(without Huet’s hot start, Montreal would already have tee times booked!)
Predictions - Habs overcome early cheap leaf goal to win 4-2 (one empty netter) and Huet shuts the mouth of R Habs4 Real! Win boys!

Isles leading 3-0 agasinst Philly. Isles will win, and by start time of tonight’s game: HABS AND ISLES ARE TIED!! ISLES 1 POINT AHEAD OF THE LEAFS!
So, unless the habs win, (not 1 point), we can only hope NJ wins tomorrow, or it’s wait until next year. If the habs had played as hard as the NYI are playing, we would already be in the playoffs. Remember, the Islanders lost their #1 goalie, too, but chose to play hard irregardless of that fact, and put in the necessary effort, UNLIKE THE HABS!
I know the habs are going to regret those no shows in Ottawa and NY.
Oh well, the weather is getting better, hopefully it will warm enough next week for a golf game.

The Habs WILL NOT be advancing to the post season in 2007. I repeat WILL NOT be advancing to the post season in 2007. They are officially eliminated from the post season.
“Canadiens head coach Guy Carbonneau confirms it: Cristobal Huet is in nets tonight. Having played a sum total of 20 minutes of hockey since he tore his hamstring on Feb. 14 and required surgery three days later, it’s up to Huet to save the Canadiens’ season and lead the team into the playoffs”.
They are ROYALLY F_CKED BIG TIME NOW. So long boys. At least it is an early vacation.
The players don’t get paid for the playoffs anyway. It is all gravy money for the owners…………..

The Isles will win tonight and I was reading a Toronto Star article this morning that Brodeur may not start tomorrow versus the Isles, then we know the Isles will win. Even if he does, the Devils do not have anything to play for, they might not show up and play hard at all, the Isles will win. We need to win tonight to render that game tomorrow meaningless for them. The Habs cannot show the same lack of heart that they showed at MSG on Thursday otherwise they will lose. I hope we kick some Leaf ass but we need to be at our best tonight. Let’s play with HEART tonight and show some passion. It’s very simple: Win tonight and we are in the playoffs. Go Habs Go!!

Stop beating the dead horse, Iceberg(that’s what we used to call Bill Berg;) ). Samsonstiff isn’t coming back.
As for Huet giving up softies,DIE HARD, it’s true that he has done so at times. What is also true is that we have played this way all year, not just since x-mas. The fact is, we’d be back with Philly without Huet’s early season heroics, wouldn’t have even come close to the playoffs last year either, and IMO, he’s as good as Halak–even rusty.
Halak played well, don’t get me wrong, but he seemed incapable of winning away from the Bell Center. He’s been giving up a softie per game, excepting his two shutouts, and sometimes more. While I don’t agree with the decision to start Huet either, Carbo had a tough choice to make. When the chips are down, and they are, there are no good choices.
Whatever choice he made, he was going to get second guessed, period. I believe Halak gives us a better chance to win, myself, and if we get shelled tonight, I’ll be pissing and moaning like everyone else. Still, to dismiss Huet’s role in getting us here, considering the # of games he stole for us earlier this season, is wrong.
Huet can win this game. All he has to do is not lose it. Raysoft(nice one Smiler) is no superman. If the team charges out of the gate, instead of crawls, like normal, we’ll win. There’s been no mention of Raysoft for the Vezina, not even in TO (where I live), despite his high win total, and that is due to his inconsistency.
In a game as crucial as this, I’ll take Huet over Raysoft. I’ll take Halak over Raysoft. I’ll take Abby over Raysoft. Hell, I’ll even drag Redlight Racicot out of retirement, and I’ll take HIM over Raysoft.
That iterated, if we play hard, we’ll win. If we do lose, I’ll be cheering on the Islanders in their last game, as they have the tie-breaker over the leafs. And if they fail me, I’ll cheer Buffalo. I’ll cheer for any team, as long as they’re playing against the leafs.
GO HABS GO!!!!!GOLF LEAFS GOLF!!!!!

Thursday was a very important game. The Habs could have knocked two teams out of the playoffs. Double Whammy. They blew that important game just like they will blow this important game tonight.
Oh. Did I mention that the Habs season will be over tonight. Oh yeah, I did….
Halak will be saying to himself, that stupid ass Carbo….oh well my value will go up next year. And I got this team to the where they are now and the Great Huet will look like an ass………OLE OLE, OLE, OLE…..

The point is. If you score a couple of quick goals on Huet, his focus is gone he looses his cool.
Halak on the other hand does not loose his cool down a couple of goals and can come back and make some great saves. He has shown us that he can do that.
I’m pissed big time over Carbo putting in Huet. If they loose they deserve it.

The Gazette says Carbo is undecided, but the Score’s ticker says Huet will start. Which is true? Probably the Score’s ticker. It won’t matter who starts if the Habs don’t show any urgency…
Glad to see my boy the AHL Slasher, AKA Perezhogin, is finally back playing tonight. Apparently, he’ll start the game with Saku “Joshtm’s Boy” Koivu and the newfie. Let’s hope he injects a spark, and uses his plus-player status to show those two how to backcheck…

Starting Huet was the right call. Halak, as well as he’s played, likely would have been on the bench licking his wounds by now. I’m sure Carbonneau fully expected this first period storm and elected to go with experience. So far, it’s paid off.
The problem is Montreal’s seemingly complete lack of effort to win and their subsequent failure at mounting any kind of an offensive attack.
Neither of these teams belong in the playoffs, in my opinion. Given their opposition, neither would survive one round.

This was typically a Leafs (w/ Celestial support and refs giving them enough chances…not that we didn’t help of course. But it’s simply the trend for this 2006-07 version of the Habs. Also of note, last game for Kovalev (no doubt…here he is invisible for the two last games. Also, note Souray non present when the games is on the line. (injury or not, it says something for him)…got to expect it to be his last game. Huet weak and the defense very shoddy. Again, the Gods just wanted the Leafs to win. Mr.Ganey good jb this year, but the coacxhing staff just gave up for no reasons. Maybe Gainey actually made the wrong decidion by acquiring 2 rookie coaches. He should have been the assistant coach to carbonneau in order to correct his mistakes.
Anyways, let’s forget about hockey, and LIVE LIFE!
To be quiet honest, now I rather wanna see leafs in the Playooffs than Islanders. And for the first time, I actually want them to win the cup. They deserve it. 40 years of drought, c’mon guys. If they win the cup this year, habs will probably try their asses off to win the cup too. Right now, they have no pressure on them; they are the last Canadian team to have won the cup.
My point is that Leafs deserve the cup this year, and I’ll go for them until they actually win the cup or get eliminated, and then we’all cheer for our mighty Habs again next year. *REMEMBER THIS YEAR IS AN EXCEPTION* It doesn’t mean I want them to ewin the cup that I am a fan of theirs. NO, WAY! I just belive they deserve it.
Sundin on his late 30s, dedicated a great portion of his carrer with Leafs, and didn’t have had the chance to lift the cup.
This cup belongs to you guys.

Thank God this drama is over. I’d rather have a talentless team of players who play hard for pride than a roster full of overpaid pre-madonnas. Remember when Canadiens would take bullets to win the Stanley Cup? Playing with broken legs? It’s hard to be a Habs fan nowadays when your highest paid players wouldn’t block a shot for a playoff spot. Kudos to Huet, Halak, Koivu, Ryder, Higgins, Plekanac and “les jeunes”; good riddance to Kovalev, Samsonov and Aebischer.
Bring in some Canadians for the long term–French, English, it doesn’t matter! Just give me someone who couldn’t face himself in the mirror if he let his team down!

The bottom line is, we chased Raycroft because he was sh crappy. But if it weren’t for Raycroft,we probably wouldn’t have gotten back in the game. But the leafs didn’t deserve to win. They got a few lucky bounces, along with the homer referees in their back pocket. leafs were just lucky. But I think the Islanders will wipe that smirk off their ugly faces. And next year, we WILL CREAM THE LEAFS! That’s a promise! If this game had been played in MTL, we would have won! Don’t worry! The leafs will be swept by Buffalo, 4 STRAIGHT!
Leafs have NO GOALTENDING! Next year Price will play for us, and that will make a huge difference! But we have to do something about our D. It’s simply horrible!

Goodbye to him! These players aren’t worthy of that CH on their chest! Maurice Richard would turn over in his grave if he knew how this bunch of misfits didn’t show up. All the chances in the last 3 months to get a playoff spot, and they just decided not to try!
Like I said, this is, by far the WORST team I HAVE EVER SEEN, talent wise, and without any HEART, PASSION,COURAGE, and GUTS! And without decent coaches!

Another thing that upsets me, is the point system determining who gets in the playoffs! WE FINISHED WITH MORE WINS THAN ATLANTA AND TORONTO! Based on that, we deserved to get in! They need to change the playoff format! Go back to, 2 points for a win, in regulation, OT, or a shootout. This system, is simply NOT FAIR! And the leafs, DO HAVE THE REFEREES IN THEIR BACK POCKET! THEY ARE PRO TORONTO ONLY! HOW ELSE DO YOU THINK LEAFS WON THEIR LAST 3 GAMES?
TOTALLY UNFAIR! REFS GOT PAID OFF BY LEAFS. THEY ONLY WANTED LEAFS TO WIN! SHAME ON YOU REFS! SHAME! SHAME ON YOU REFS!

Disappointing end to a roller coaster season. The one bright spot is the number of young prospects this team has on the big club and in the system. There will be changes in the offseason, but at least the future does look bright for this team. For all you Koivu haters….get a life! Try 15 points in his last 8 games and 18 points in his last 12 games…and all this with a catarac in his left eye that will need to be removed in the summer. Thank you Saku, and thank you Habs Blog for allowing us Hab fans a place to chat. Have a great summer people…can’t wait unitl next year!

I’m just so fu#$?# pissed right now….It’s seconds before the end of the second period, and you just know that something has to happen…Poof!..a high stick at the close of the period…y’know that’s not the end of the world. But wait it’s a two-man advantage….
OK..so the period starts and they eliminate one of the two…yet the goal goes in (by the grace of destiny because a floater that has eyes, there’s 45 players in front of the net it’s got to hit somebody you’d think and it finds the back of the net…Huet is down on the play and is oblivious to what’s going on…(he’s kept in…sure in hindsight but maybe that’s where Jalak should have come in)….and the Leafs continue with the man advantage…How does that happen!!
Obviously I missed something!! Then Koivu gets another neanderthal play penalty (now normally a play like that is not called but here at the Air Canada centre (anything to give the Leafs more chances, it does!) at the blue line and yes it’s another penalty. Here Lapierre stands in front of the shooter….why he doesn’t block it (not sure other than divine intervention)and then two not one Leaf in front of Huet of which the puck deflects and finds the net…The sixth goal I believe is McCabe’s goal or maybe I’ve mixed them up…just pathetic….what is Johnson doing on the ice in the third period, when we need a goal…..what f%#%*& numbskull leaves that stiff in …was it a benching he was giving!! This is where you have Kovalev and Ryder and Kostitsen/Plekanez stay on for the remainder of the game…Put an offensive guy on the blue line do something…!!! f#$%#%?!!! I’m stunned that again this win was theirs, just came back from a 3-1 deficit to give it right back….what a f#$%$? joke! This is going to be another memorable summer!!

Here Lapierre stands in front of the shooter….why he doesn’t block it (not sure other than divine intervention)and then two not one Leaf in front of Huet of which the puck deflects and finds the net. The two defensemen again oblivious to the two Leafs as they weren’t even touched!!…The sixth goal I believe is McCabe’s goal or maybe I’ve mixed them up…just pathetic….what is Johnson doing on the ice in the third period, when we need a goal…..what f%#%*& numbskull leaves that stiff in …was it a benching he was giving to some of the other guys!!

Well, well, well. I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO.
It feels good to shove it down your throats.
The great Huet saved the day didn’t he. Ha, Ha, Ha. I told you that Halak should have started. My, how many soft goals did Huet let in tonight? Ummmm.
You can stop 40 shots satanding on your head, and it means nothing if you have soft goals scored on you. The 2nd goal was the soft goal that cost the Habs from taking out the Leafs. That is Huet for you.
Maurice made the right move by pulling Raycroft and they won the Game.
Carbo was to stupid to pull Huet after the 3rd goal. What? He pulled Halak after the 3rd goal on Thursday after he stoped 22 good shots.
Carbo & Huet cost the Habs a playoff spot.
How can you win a game playing 20 mins. They showed up for the 2nd period only. I should say that two players showed up tonight. Higgins & Ryder. At least those two can go home with their heads held high.
WAY TO GO RYDER MY NEWFIE BOY. GO BACK TO NEWFOUNDLAND PROUD BYE.
I SWEAR ON MY CHILDRENS LIVES, THAT AS LONG AS CARBO IS COACH OF THE MONTREAL CANADIENS, I WILL NEVER WATCH ANOTHER GAME.
What did I tell all of you. You all laughed at me. Who got the last laugh hey.
I feel bad for Higgins & Ryder…….

We losr because os stupid penalties, and a LACK OF DISCIPLINE!
Huet didn’t lose the game. It wouldn’t have mattered who was in goal.
It’s hard to stop a puck at 100 miles/hr, from McCabe. But someone should have BLOCKED THOSE SHOTS!
But right now, I feel really numb and it’s a hard pill to swallow.
WE should have won the game. We were up 5-3 near the end of the 2nd period, and should have hung on.
Anyways, We deserve to be in the playoffs based on the fact that we finished with MORE WINS THAN ATLANTA AND LEAFS. Hopfully, the league will change the point system determining who makes the playoffs.
I’m rooting for the ISLANDERS TOMORROW! GO ISLES GO!
Let’s wipe that smirk off the leaf faces.

Fuck everyone who talks shit on this blog about our team. Fuck all you losers who bash your team on the blog that dedicates it’s time and effort to the team you supposedly love. Get a fuckin life. Cheer for the CHL team in your area. Go away with your piss poor attitude, don’t comeback ever. Your not needed. our team tried their asses off, they shit the bed in january and febuary, tried to make a comeback and almost succeeded. They gave it all they had, try cheering for philly or the oilers. Good luck with that one. You guys act like the habs owe you something, they don’t owe you shit. They play the best they can and if that aint good enough, then that means the other team wanted it more. much like tonights performance. I say thank you very much for an amazing season Montreal, it sure has been a rollercoaster of emotions, you guys still RULE in my mind. I will be looking forward to next season, hopefully we can pick it up. If you want to bash this message go ahead, fuck you. i don’t care, our team is still #1 in my mind. and i will always say GO HABS GO!!!!!!! peace

Habs phan, it is fans like you that will make Montreal another Toronto Maple leafs. Support a loosing team. They make money and bring in no good players. Yeah you are a real winner…………
Note to Huet:
Ryder & Higgins gave everything they had, not you. You lets in some softs goals tonight. If you weren’t ready, you should of let Halak finish what he started. Instead you wanted to steal his glory to save your spot as number 1 goalie. You are not great goalie, and you cost Montreal what we have waited for all year. The playoffs. For me you’ll always be number 2 for your selfish decision to play in an important game like this one after coming off such a long injury stretch. “Ryder & Higgins gave everything they had tonight, I think.” Huet Don’t give us your comments, Ryder and Higgins had the games of their lives, and yet lost the game for us. Are proud of yourself. Go back to France with the rest of the cowards. Train hard for next year because if the fans had brains they will put you in the same spot as Mr.Theodore. Huet kept the team in threw the first period and a half. The 2nd, 4th and 5th goals were soft but the other one’s weren’t his fault. The D couldn’t clear out a disabled person from in front of Huet.
I know have to put away my Habs jersey till the draft. And what a suprise that mister Alex’big game’Kovalev didn’t show again. He’s laughing all the way to the bank with his paycheck right now. The two Russians need to go. And this was Souray’s last game in a Habs jersey. He’ll be on the west coast.
A lot of changes are in store I believe with the roster. Either Bouillon or Dandenault won’t be back(just one of the two) and the Russians hopefully won’t be back. Carbo will be behind the bench so complaining and calling for the head of a first year head coach learning from his mistakes is pointless. The next significant piece of Habs news that will happen is the re-signing of Andrei Markov to a long term deal.
Posted on April 8th, 2007 at 12:46 am. About 'Playoff Showdown'.
Events to happen this summer:
- Markov sings 3 year extension
- Carbo gets green light although the leash wil start to get shorter
- Habs will look at acquiring a goalie(although who is really out there)
- Souray will sign with LA mainly because Gainey’s line will be busy on July 1 with Rivet’s agent harrasing Gainey to resign Craig
- Shanahans name will be in the mix again and a deal will be close but he will sign back with NY
- Bonk will sign with Washington on Jul 23rd after very little interest in the first couple of weeks
- Chris phillips signs with Habs after SOuray leaves although the contract will be very steep and many bloggers will use this as ammunition to cry about.
- Ninimaa signs with a swedish team
- Kirk Muller leaves team after getting alot of flack about his PK units
Abby finds a bottom barrell team to take a chance on him. Probably LA and SOuray starts to question his decision to sign there.
- Pascual DUpuis is signed and made out to be our future saviour
- Latendresse gets cut in training camp for being overweight and thinking he is a suprestar. Lapierre is told not to go minus 3 in the biggest games of the year.
- Kovalev stays (whatever)
- Sammonov finally finds a taker and the Habs actually have to give up a 4th rounder to unload his salary.

What gets me is that teams with less wins are in the playoffs , seems that something is wrong when that happens , the point for a loss needs to go , but it wont why , well because this game is going to the USA and we are again loosing something to them, I really hope they change that rule its wrong period.

Also:
- Johnson stays with mixed reactions- 1 year(1.1)
- Gainey goes for Briere and offeres him 4.8 mill/year but when he realizes Atlanta offered him 7 mill he backs off.
- Perezhogin gets traded with a draft pick for David Legwand
- Michael Ryder goes to arbitration once again. Gets 2.5 thsi time.
- Pleks gets a substantial raise to 1.4 a year
- Dandeneault is shopped and Detroit shows interest
- Gainey fights hard and gets Emelin overseas
- Habs end up settling for Smolinski

Carbo better run a more disaplined team next year. He should run an entire week in camp teaching players how NOT to take penalties.
Major moves: Markov re-signs at 4 mil per for 3-4 years, Souray/Ninnamaa/Bonk/Abby/Sammy/Dandenault or Boullion won’t be back. Those are guarranteed.
Specualtion: Kovalev get’s dealt to Washinton/Phenoix/Columbus for next to nothing. Habs deal a prospect/young forward, one of their two first rounders, and Dandenault/Boullion(one of the two) for a scoring winger or top two centre. Go out and sign the one they don’t get(winger or centre), sign a solid top 4 d-man. Ryder signs a 3-4 year deal worth 3mil per, all of the other young guys once again get small raises on one year deals.
The Habs will go into next season with Halak and Huet as their two goalies.

I agree DON. We finished with more wins than Atlanta and Toronto, yet they’re in, and we’re out. The league needs to change the point system. It’s a joke!
It cost us the playoffs! The NHL is beginning to look like a real farce.
Bring back the rules from the 70’s. Now that was real hockey. It’s nights like this that I really miss that fantastic team from the 70’s. Why is our present team so bad? I think they are a disgrace to this city. players like Kovalev don’t belong in the NHL. His disappearing act puts Houdini to shame!
He just can’t be allowed to return. I know his attitude was a major reason for our decline. He’s a horrible influence on our players. Gainey needs to do the right thing and rid us of players who aren’t willing to compete and work hard every night.
Look for Price as our starting goalie next year.
The “NO SHOW” act will not happen again. If it does, CARBO will be fired for sure. It’s just too bad, we won’t be let go now.
I’m in a total state of disbelief at what I saw tonight.
Even tho the habs missed the playoffs before, this year seems to sting more. Maybe because we were in 4th place in February, and looked like a shoe in for the playoffs. I am so so disappointed. I guess I kind of live and die with the habs. Tho I rant alot, it’s because I just can’t accept defeat and I wanted the habs to win so badly.
I pray the ISLANDERS win and knock out the leafs. That’s my only consolation for us not being in the playoffs.

I copied this on Friday, from Spector’s mailbag, and put it on this blog, and here it is again:
“Daniel” recently sent in the following on the Canadiens: “This is probably not possible to check if it’s true or not but former referee Ron Fournier said yesterday on popular radio show “Les amateurs de sports” that Gainey’s plan is to have Huet as a starter next season and have Halak or young Carey Price as a backup. On defence, the 7 starter planned are Dandenault, Markov, Streit, Komisarek, Gorges with young Jean-Philippe Côté and Ryan O’Byrne leading to the speculation that Souray and Niinimaa won’t be signed and Bouillon will be traded somewhere this summer. He also said that Gainey want to pursue big UFA name such as Bill Guerin, Daniel Brière and Chris Phillips. Fournier said that there’s some big surprise for the forwards and don’t want to reveal them until the Habs season end. He also said that he has a source from the Habs management but don’t want to say who it is. This have been heard on CKAC 730AM around 5PM tuesday

I’m having a hard time with losing to the leafs last night. Yes, LOSING. That’s how it’s spelled guys. I’m having an even more terrible time with the deplorable attitudes of some of Habs Nation on this site. Like DIEHARD. You got your wish jackass. Go put your leaf jersey on, and cheer away. Yeah, Huet blew, you called it, who cares. I wanted Halak in too. Doesn’t matter now.
I’d have more time for whining about the point system if it had started a few days ago, instead of now. It doesn’t help, anyway. Bettman likes it as is, and so do a pile of GMs and owners. All in the name of “parity”. The extra point isn’t going anywhere.
I imagine it would take a monumental effort by fans to change this. A massive set of petitions, circulating through all 30 teams and their sites: asking for change.
Don’t count on it happenning. As bitter as we are, Leaf or Isles fans, one group of whom will get into the playoffs based on this, certainly wouldn’t sign anything like that. In any event, the league only wants our money, not our input.
Time and time again, you hear derisive remarks from players about the fans booing them or their pals. They act as though all of us know nothing. I feel I deserve better than that, as I’ve been playing and watching this game longer than half these players have been alive.
This is a gate driven league, and the only teams with decent TV revenues are the Canadian teams. We carry this league on our backs. I wish there was someone, somewhere, that I could talk to meaningfully about this. There isn’t.
All that shit aside, I’m an Islander fan for a day. They were my 2nd favorite team as a child, so it’s full circle. I hope they can keep it going and win today, because I hate the leafs.
Well, I’m off to play Shivering Isles now, in the hope of some symetry. I’m gonna play Fallen Leaves by Billy Talent all day, in the hopes it comes true. For all you naysayers, complain all you like, but unless you’re complaining to the right people, it’s all in vain…

Is this really a big deal? Other than the fact that the Leaf fan idiots are gonna ride my ass forever cuz they haven’t a clue, is this really a big deal? Was this team gonna do any damage in the playoffs when they consistently don’t show up 1st periods??? Naw, better to sit on the outside so Gainey can now see that major changes are needed to the core of the team and HE WILL!
But mediocre Montreal finished with 42 wins to Toronto’s 40 but because the NHL gives out points to losers in OT, they are ahead by one in the standings. NOW THAT is a joke! I’ve said it before, no points should be given to a team for losing in extra time (OT/Shootout). Make the 60 minute mean everything by awarding 2 pts for a regulation time win and only 1 pt for an extra time win. Have three columns WINS-LOSSES-EXTRA TIME LOSSES (W-L-X), you go back and do the math here with this formula and Montreal’s in the playoffs and Toronto’s NOT.
As for last night’s game, both teams were crap but the CBC in cahoots with the NHL obviously paid off the refs to guarantee the Laffs would win so CBC viewership ratings would be high and MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment) and the Teacher’s Fund (Leaf owners) would have the playoff revenue (even it is two home dates). There’s no way the Habs have to kill three 5-on-3s in one game! Meanwhile Toronto gets away with obstructions and phantom hooks that are called on Montreal players. No coincidence with Montreal taking a 5-3 lead into the 3rd that the Leafs get a 5-on-3 including 4 minuter situation.
That said, the lack of fire and desire in this team is alarming! Please stand up Mr. Kovalev! Mr. Bonk! They oughta be ashamed.
So anyways, not a bad season, but not a great one, even one round in the playoffs would’ve been fun but for the housecleaning to happen, we had to miss it so here we are.
GO ISLANDERS, YOU DESERVE IT!

absolutely disgusting season. first game I watched in a month. I will say this. Huet is a great goalie and you were injured and made the scapegoat everygame the team lost and given no credit when they won. Gainey did nothing to help this team at the deadline. Carbo lost the dressing room and this team did not try hard or play to its potential. It is the coaches responsiblity to have its players play to its potential. Sorry Sammy you had to have your season ruined. Also not your fault..your comments were justified and you will bounce back fine in another city who will allow you the chance to play on a number one line.
I wish gainey and carbo were gone but until they are, me being a fan is on hold…also until koivu kovalev, are dealt..i give up

I got my wish yes. But my heart is very heavy right now believe it or not.

I think my last few comments in this blog says it all…………….
Posted on April 8th, 2007 at 10:21 am. About 'Playoff Showdown'.
Too sum up what I have said for thoses of you that may have forgot:
My heart is breaking. My easter has been shit for me. I don’t know whether to cry, put my fist through a wall. I do not know how to handle this. I really don’t.
I can handle a Habs loss but the way they went out, blowing a lead. And the Leafs beating them. That is all that we will hear for the next 10 years. Oh it was the Leafs who took Montréal out of the playoffs in 2007.
F_ck, I can explode right now.
Mark my words: AS LONG AS CARBONEAU IS THE COACH OF THE MONTRÉAL CANADIENS, I WILL NEVER WATCH OR LISTEN TO ANOTHER GAME AGAIN. THAT I SWEAR ON EVERYTHING THAT IS HOLY TO ME. That is how much that I am pissed.
But I am not totally surprised that Montréal loss I predicted it. But I am still LIVID……
Typical Montréal Canadiens Thursday night against the NYR’s. No effort in the 1st period, piss poor defense etc, etc, etc. DON’T DARE BLAME THIS LOST ON HALAK. That young man stood on his head for that team and brought them to where they are now. How many games(and there were a few)did the Great Huet let in very soft goals and Carbo played him again the next game. Just before Huet got hurt he would not stop a bag of grass sure everyone forgets that right and now everyone wants him in net now. Like he will save the day. PLEASE PEOPLE !!! Halak should tell the Montréal Management to go to hell. I’m sure that there are a few teams that would sign Halak to a contract. I hope that Montréal will lose for what Carbo done last night and for playing Huet tomorrow night, I HOPE THE LEAFS WHIP THE HAB’S A_SES BIG TIME and will show Carbo that again he made another big mistake.
Montréal had a chance to kill 2 birds with one stone. Toronto & the NYI’s should have been knocked out Thursday night. Last night was the biggest game of the year for Montréal not Saturday. If Montréal gets one point they take out the Leafs sure, but the NYI’s are still in it.
One more note. It was like Carbo was hoping for an excuse to put Huet in last night. Montréal was down by 2 goals against NYR’s before and came back to win that game. Think about it boys & girls.
Carbo is pathetic. He could not train a dog to sit not alone coach a hockey team.
Don’t get me wrong. I have wanted my Habs to win. I always have and always will. I get frustrated with the way Montréal is playing this year.
I’m not sorry for saying that I hope Montréal loses Sat. night. I hope Huet gets pulled from the net before the 1st period is over. I don’t like Huet as a goaltender never have. He is another Theodore. He has done nothing to impress me this year or last year for that matter either. From what I have seen Huet is no better than Halak. So Huet stopped 8 shots Thursday night. Big deal. Halak stopped 23 and some were great stops. I will cheer for the Habs but not when Huet is in Net, No damn way.
To set the record straight: I WILL NEVER, I MEAN NEVER CHEER FOR THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS. NO BLOODY WAY.
Not if Huet is in the net Sat.
Remember the old saying “YOU DANCE WITH THE ONE WHO BROUGHT YOU HERE or something like that……………….
GOOD LUCK HABS YOU WILL NEED IT IF HUET IS IN NET.
It’s official:
The Habs WILL NOT be advancing to the post season in 2007. I repeat WILL NOT be advancing to the post season in 2007. They are officially eliminated from the post season.
Hot off the press:
“Canadiens head coach Guy Carbonneau confirms it: Cristobal Huet is in nets tonight. Having played a sum total of 20 minutes of hockey since he tore his hamstring on Feb. 14 and required surgery three days later, it’s up to Huet to save the Canadiens’ season and lead the team into the playoffs.
They are ROYALLY F_CKED BIG TIME NOW. So long boys. At least it is an early vacation.
The players don’t get paid for the playoffs anyway. It is all gravy money for the owners…………..
Coach Carbo Screwed up yet another big game………..
Scotty Bowman should give Carbo a punch in the face and a swift kick in the Nuts…………..
Thursday was a very important game. The Habs could have knocked two teams out of the playoffs. Double Whammy. They blew that important game just like they will blow this important game tonight.
Oh. Did I mention that the Habs season will be over tonight. Oh yeah, I did….
Halak will be saying to himself, that stupid A_s Carbo….oh well my value will go up next year. And I got this team to the where they are now and the Great Huet will look like an Ass clown………OLE OLE, OLE, OLE…..
After the Habs loss:
Well, well, well. I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO.
It feels good to shove it down your throats.
The great Huet saved the day didn’t’t he. Ha, Ha, Ha. I told you that Halak should have started. My, how many soft goals did Huet let in tonight? Ummmm.
You can stop 40 shots standing on your head, and it means nothing if you have soft goals scored on you. The 2nd goal was the soft goal that cost the Habs from taking out the Leafs. That is Huet for you.
Maurice made the right move by pulling Raycroft and they won the Game.
Carbo was to stupid to pull Huet after the 3rd goal. What? He pulled Halak after the 3rd goal on Thursday after he stopped 22 good shots.

YES, I GOT MY WISH THEY DID LOSE. I really deep down inside wanted Montréal to win. I am a DIE HARD HABS FAN. I wanted the Leafs to score a couple or 3 quick goals and then Halak would be put in net and save the day. But Carbo, that F_cking A_s Clown good for nothing peace of Monkey Sh_t stayed with that Useless Huet.
These are my predictions since the Thursday. They all have come true. Am I ashamed to have said those comments? Definitely NOT.
Well it was fun for a while. I am not turning my back on the team Just Carbo & huet. And I stand behind my decision………………..

Iceberg14: “Huet is a great goalie and you were injured and made the scapegoat everygame the team lost and given no credit when they won”
HA. Was he great last night. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
Halak was the one who did not get any credit for what he done. AND it showed when Wonder Coach Carbo through him into the trash………
Posted on April 8th, 2007 at 10:43 am. About 'Playoff Showdown'.
Halak sucked on the road. He was 7-0 at home, 3-6 on the road with an inflated GAA. He wasn’t mantally prepared for a game like that. Carbo nade the right decision to go to Huet.
It’s not Huet’s fault that his D couldn’t clear out the people in front of him. That was probably the worst game the Habs D played all year. And what about the fact that Huet, Ryder and Higgins were the only players to show up last night? The entire D, Kovalev, Koivu in the third was a dog, Kostitsyn, Latendresse, Lapierre, Begin(keep your stick down you idiot), Plakanec, Perezhogin(man you suck) all didn’t show up. Blame the players who didn’t show before you blame a goalie that had no help whatsoever. The 2nd goal was brutal granted, but the rest his team did not help him with.
And don’t look for Price as the starter. He’ll be in the minors for 2-3 years WHERE HE SHOULD BE. Look at every young goalie in the league. THEY ALL spent time in the minors first. Price is not going to be an exception. Huet and Halak will be the teams goalies next year.

What the hell has gotten into you Jack? Since when do the Leafs deserve to win the cup?
R Habs…Price will not play for us next year. Are you on crack? He should be #1 in Hamilton next year. He still needs to develop. Next year, we have a good tandem between Huet & Halak (like Carbo was hoping to have this year with Aebischer).
All you guys blaming last night’s game on the refereeing should be Leafs fans next year. That’s a typical Toronto excuse. Come on guys, seriously!
Let’s hope Gainey fights for Ryan Smyth. We need him on our team next season.
Trade Kovalev. Somebody will want him. Try to trade Samsanov & Aebischer. Those guys will be hard to get rid of, but if there are no takers, bite the bullet and send them down to Hamilton for next season. Maybe someone would rather want to claim either one of them off waivers, than to give someone up for them.
Have a happy summer guys & we’ll see you next season.

Habs#1: Get real buddy. Huet let in some soft goals. The second goal was a joke. Now Maurice he was the man last night. He had brains enough to pull Raycroft and won.
If Sh_it for brains Carbo would have followed suit, and pulled USELESS TIT Huet the Habs would be in the playoffs right now.
I feel bad for Ryder & Higgins but I feel good that my prediction was 100% right on.
What gets my goat is the Idiots in here who still think Huet is still “All That”.
AND that is why this team, the Habs, will never get another cup. Stupid A_S fans such as yourselves.

Well, Looks like Kovalev was missing his family back home and didn’t want this season to go on. I mean, come on now, how can you miss the net like that and call yourself an NHL hockey player???
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Russian players. Thank goodness we have a Russian player like Markov that can play even when he’s injured. He has a lot of heart and WANTS to play for the Canadiens.
Mr Gainey. You are a hockey great and deserve to be in your position. In my humble opinion, you have to find an experienced coach to teach Carbo how to become better and inspire his players to do their best. Not trash talk and have a “my way or the highway attitude” It just doesn’t work in the NHL. With Free Agency and some unhappy players in the roster, you truly have your work cut out for you this summer. You know what you have to do.
Last night there was a lot of bad luck against Toronto, but does anyone really believe that Montreal had a chance to win the cup this year?? I believe that many of the Montreal players know this too. You can’t win playing 20 minutes a game…. except in the first half of the season. Hmmm, sounds familiar.
Buffalo deserves to win the cup this year. Let the best team win! A la prochaine!

Hey LEBEAU(crackhead, sh***Thead): PRICE WILL BE BATTLING FOR THE #! GOALIE SPOT! And that’s the word from GAINEY, you moron!
Do you think I made that up? Reliable sources in the habs organization have said so. And every coach and scout have confirmed that Price IS READY for the NHL. Ne will NOT spend 2 or 3 years in Hamilton, you idiot!
If he’s not a started next year, he WILL be the backup!

Centennial year around the corner and we’re going backwards.
Instead of moving up every round we’re missing the playoffs.
Thanks for giving us something to look forward too
You won’t be getting any of my money anytime soon losers!
I haven’t forgiven Huet on the crappy Stillman goal last year were he showed his true colors.
GOOD GOALIES DO NOT LET IN BACK BREAKING GOALS.
SECOND GOAL WAS A BACKBREAKER, GARBAGE, GARBAGE!

We need to make sure that we don’t keep extra baggage. It’s time for Koivu to go. His undisciplined penalty last night and on countless other occasions this season, really hurt this team. Added to the fact that he didn’y show up for many games in Jan, Feb, and so on. His 22 goals are not worth 4.75 mil.
It’s been nice having him here, but it’s time to say goodbye, along with Kovalev(Mr. Invisible). Just to show Kovalev’s cowardness, he didn’t even stay in the dressing room last night, after the game to answer questions.
He’s a gutless, no show piece of garbage! HE’S GONE! Sorry to say, Souray won’t be resigned! Too expensive, and a DEFENSIVE LIABILITY!
Let’s hope Gainey is able to land 1 or 2 UFA’s and trade some of the deadwood.
Oh, BTW,habs missed the playoffs in Jan and Feb! Any team who has to depend on the last game of the season to make the playoffs, has NO BUSINESS BEING IN THEM! They played last night the same way they played all season: playing for only 20 minutes, undisciplined, taking too many penalties, allowing soft goals, and bad defence!
So, just wait for the draft now, and hope we get good draft picks, then a few trades, and sign acouple UFA’s, and out with the trash!

We deserved to lose after the way we played last night. We would have been swept in 4 straight by Buffalo. Maybe this is a wake-up call that we should get the right type of players otherwise we will be shit for a while. We will be a better team next season and WE WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!! Last year, we knocked out the Leafs when we won those two games at home, when we beat their asses all over the Bell Centre, we will do that again next year. We will kick their asses next year and get our revenge. Last year, we beat them and they wanted revenge this season, well next year is our year of redemption and WE WILL KICK SOME LEAF ASS. However, the hockey gods finally wanted the Leafs to win a big game against us for the first time in 40 years so they did. We had been kicking their asses for the past 40 seasons so maybe it was time for a change, somewhat like when the Red Sox finally beat the Yankees after the Yankees always beating the Red Sox. Enjoy it Leaf Nation, because it will only last this year. You won’t be so lucky next season, MARK MY WORDS!! Anyways, Habs need to retool for next year and improve on this season. We need new players, get rid of all the useless garbage, bring up the kids from Hamilton and we will be better next year. Anyways, Leafs fans should not be so happy just yet, if the Islanders win, they will not make the playoffs, so don’t count your chickens before they hatch, LAFF fans. Anyways, if you do somehow make it to the playoffs, you will get your asses kicked by Buffalo, who I want to win the Stanley Cup if no Canadian team wins it. Let’s go Buffalo and kick some Maple Leaf ASS!!

Since the 1998-99 season to present,(8years),(not including the lockout year), HABS HAVE MISSED THE PLAYOFFS 5 OUT OF THE LAST 8 YEARS! Something is wrong with this organization! Why don’t we ever get better,PERMANENTLY!
Detroit,Ottawa, NJ, always gets in the playoffs, why can’t we?
Gainey needs to stop tweaking this club, and make major changes!
We shouldn’t have to worry from year to year if we’re good enough.Detroit, Ottawa and NJ don’t have those concerns! I WANT BIG BIG CHANGES OR I’LL CHANGE MY ALLEGIANCE!

The leafs paid the refs off. How about the Islanders or the Gary Bettman paid the refs off. Bettman wants all three New York teams in the playoffs. SO he does not have to travel much and he hates when a Canadian team is in the finials.

R habs 4 real, please do switch allegiance. I think that would be better for everybody.
And you want to know why the Habs aren’t like the Red Wings, Devils etc.? Cause before Gainey got here Houle and Andre Savard couldn’t draft worth shit. They were horrible GM’s. The Bulldogs and the Habs had no young players or prospects till Gainey got here.
This will take time. I know no one wants to here the word ‘patience’ anymore but it’s the truth. You’re either loyal or not, through thick and thin. This team will be top 6 in the East next year. This will take a couple more years.
And Koivu just had career high’s in goals and assists so lay off. Carbo will be a better coach who will have lived from his mistakes and with the Russians gone there will be no more cancers in the room that he has to deal with. And once they get one more winger and a #1-2 centre man they will start to light it up 5 on 5. All Carbo needs to do is have these guys practising how not to take penalties in the offseason.

The Habs need an overhaul in the grit department.
I don’t think Carbonneau is a bad coach yet but he’s gotta get better and here’s rooting for him to get better! He needs to realize how to use the players better. It seems some will play for him (Komisarek, Bouillon, Higgins, Ryder, Johnson, Huet, Markov, Begin) and then there’s those he seems to not have in his corner (Koivu, Kovalev, Bonk, Souray, Perezhogin, Aebischer) and then there’s the ones that are too green to know any better (Latendresse, Lapierre, Halak).
Anyways, it’s all up to Bob Gainey and he believe he ain’t a happy camper at all.
Cheers gentlemen, I’ll pop in over the playoffs and off season to see who’s bitchin’ ’bout what but have a relaxing summer!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Happy with a bad team? No.
But unlike you I’m willing to give a GM 5-6 years for the fruits of his labour to show, especially when he takes over an organiztion with nothing there. There’s one thing the Habs need more then a superstar centre: STABILITY!
Think of it like a government, if you’re changing it every 2 years you’ll never get anything done cause you’re constantly starting over.
I’ll give Gainey and Carbo till 2009-2010 for the Habs to be tops in the East. If they aren’t by then I’ll start calling for there heads.
Wanting a winner is one thing, being irrational and thinking with your heart instead of your head is another.
And if anyone ever diffends Kovalev and still wants him on the team should go cheer for the Leafs.

I’m pretty disappointed. My own son (7 yrs old) was cheering for the Leafs. It took me everything to stay calm, not swear, or even tell my own kid to shut the #@%& up.
Wait till next. THat sucks. But, I hope there are changes. I’d love to see Ryan Smith or similar type player in a Habs uniform.
When will Patrick Roy get a kick at the can? At least he has winning experience and the balls to back up his words…

Well, wityh Savard we won a stanley cup. Man, that was bad, wasn’t it?
Just because a team is rebuilding, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be competitive.
And you don’t have to be a great team to make the playoffs.
I doubt Gainey will be any different from previous GM’s, but yes, let’s see who he drafts, and the trades he makes. If he does very little, like at the trade deadline, then I’ll know where we stand. We’re not asking for a champion in 2 years, but BE COMPETITVE AND MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!

I would like to thank Carbo & Huet for their combined efforts to lose us a playoff birth. (I hope that Carbo & Huet are not with the team next year).
Maybe Gainey well chase after Patrick Roy for head coach. He has enough balls to bring us to the playoffs and we would not have to fight for 8th spot to make it either.
I hope that I did not offend any body with my truthful comments.

The Habs won the cup with Serge Savard as their GM in 1993, Molson fired him, hired Houle.
Then they fired him and hired Andre Savard.
They are two different people.
Once the two Russians are gone this team will improve by leaps and bounds.

All day today I just can’t get that 2nd goal out of my head.
I can’t understand how a pro NHL goalie can allow that kind of goal.
Seriously that piece of **** cost us a playoff spot.
That’s 2 years in a row Huet folded under pressure.
For Gods sake please don’t allow him to start anymore important games.
I’ve had enough of Huet and his “always on his knees” goaltending
HE STINKS! 6 f***’n goals. I repeat 6 f***’n goals. PATHETIC!

When did he fold under pressure ever other then the 2nd goal last night? He couldn’t see the other 5 cause the D played their worst game of the season.
And he kept them in it last year against Carolina. The OT knockout went off a stick, and goalie’s are about timing. His was knocked off it went in.
He will be the Habs goalie next season. Halak will be the backup and Price will be the starter in Hamilton.

Habs#1 great goalies don’t allow those kind of goals, period.
The guys on his knees more than a prostitute on young street.
As for the Stillman goal last year he was on his knees before the shot was even taken.
What a joke.
He will lose his starting job to Halak next year.
Speaking from a hockey goalies perspective his lateral movement stinks.
Young Halak’s got all the tools to be an excellent goalie in the NHL. Time will tell.
The next cup this team wins will be with Halak and Price not with that Huet c@#p.
Anyways no point in beating a dead horse, the seasons over. Have a great easter and summer.
