Afternoon Delight

The Canadiens play a rare 12:30 PM afternoon game today against the Capitals.
Hopefully the afternoon start won’t affect the rhythm the Canadiens have at the moment. With a 7 game point streak and enjoying consistent scoring, the Habs are creeping under the radar and putting points in the bank.
In addition, Team Canada plays for it’s 4th consecutive Gold Medal at the World Junior Championships.

Yes I agree-Koivu is finished.
Have you ever seen a team that can’t hold a lead like the Habs. You can’t take a piss without missing the Habs blowing a 2 goal lead. Every game-every time. Price can’t stop shots from 50 foot and Huet can’t stop breakaways.

well, some things never change: We still can’t win a game in the afternoon.
We still can’t win a game when trailing after 2 periods. we still can’t beat the lower rank teams. We still can’t hold a 2 goal lead. And we still don’t have clutch goaltending. Price needs to go to Hamilton to learn how to stop an NHL shot. Bring up Danis, because Price isn’t ready! Every time a Cap player took a shot on him, especially in the 3rd period, I was holding my breath. The kid makes me nervous. This was a game the habs needed to win. They should have won it! That 1 point lost, could be the difference in making and not making the playoffs. Remember this game, come April!

We lost because:1)Anyone see our one week hot sniper Ryder? 2)Nice effort by Latendresse,didn’t have the finishing touch tonite.3)Price was ice cold,Me thinks Huet is trying to sabotage his career,lol.I guess it’s official…Kovalev is back to superstar statice…

Where was the first line tonight? Does Koivu care anymore or is Kovy stealing all his limelight? Nice heart Saku. Lats can’t finish and Price was cold. Our second line is by far our best and should be rewarded as our number 1 line. We need to play Price again right away to get him back into it but don’t hesitate to pull him. Carbo should’ve put Huet in after that second goal, we woulda won. I think/hope.

And why can’t we win at home? we’ve lost 8 of the last 10 at home. If this continues, fans will be reluctant to come to games, and there will be lots of empty seats. opposing teams are dying to come to Montreal, because they know habs lose at home. If this trend doesn’t stop, forget the playoffs. Teams that can’t win at home, DON’T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!

I’m not gonna pin this loss squarely on Price’s shoulders, but if he got the 30 footer at the end of the second, or MOVED on the Backstrom shot, the Habs have two points instead of 1.
A noble effort on the part of the Habs defense though, the blocked a hell of a lot of shots.

oh, and Habs2010, you may be a little hard on the poor habs. They are doing rather well, and a lot of the home losses came in overtime, so those “losses” are more like ties. Granted an extra point here or there could help the team greatly, but they are playing well overall. Remember….we could have traded even up for the Tampa Bay Lightning roster this year…

Quit crying u crybabies.We only have 13 losses in regulation time,which is great so far,and every point we can get is crucial,plus we,re 7 games above .500.The habs r 20-13-8 after the first half of the season.Only 3 losses more than ottawa.THATS A GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.And we,re second in the division behind ottawa,and we will catch them if we keep getting points.KEEP IT UP HABS AND THE CUP SHOULD BE COMING HOME.GO HABS GO.

The obvious is just staring us in the face, if only habs2010 will agree to become our new starting and only goalie (who’s gonna need a backup), he can also be our GM too! With the final piece in place we’ll be hoisting the cup in no time.

The bottom line is:
Trade Huet and let Price play. The more games Price plays the better he will get. How can he get better playing one game in ten days. GET REAL PEOPLE. What can he learn on the bench? NOTHING. He needs hands on experience.
If Ganiney plans on keeping Huet the # 1 goalie, then Price should have stayed in Hamilton and made Halak the back up. That way Price would get a lot of playing time.
The problem with price in the game today was that he was to relaxed because he has not played in a while.
Jeep Price on the Habs bench will ruin him. Price needs to play regularly. It is simple as that. If the Gainey can’t see that then he is just as stupid as he looks.

Its always the same around here all we see are the habs bashers , we are doing alot better then the 14th place everyone was saying we would be in before the season started, and Price had a bad game boo hoo guy has been warming a bench for too long, why do people panic everytime we drop a point? We just came back with 8/12 on the road get a grip people.

but people we’re unable to win at home. That is a very disturbing stat. with so little separation between 13th and 4th place, the inability to win in your own home, will come back and bite the habs and lead to their demise, just like last year. I really don’t understand why they have such a difficult time winning at home. When you look at their record, remember that overtime losses are not included in the column as regular losses. I am very concerned about the goalie situation. We have Huet, who can’t win in OT or a shootout, and we have Price, who can’t win in regulation. Not good. What’s the answer? This isn’t the time for experimenting. We need solid goaltending for 60 minutes, + OT, + shootouts.

Cant win in regulation he has 9 wins what are you talking about, he is 20 and jumped right into the NHL he has great skills and will be a superb goalie this is a learning curve for him and all the other kids out there and they are doing great .

Koivu’s best years may be in the past but he still has a lot to contribute to the Canadiens. The Kostitsyn brothers are going to be awesome in a few years. Chipchura & Lapierre need to skate faster. Latendresse has a lot of potential but still needs to develop. Kovalev, Plekanec, Higgins, Huet, Markov, Komisarik, Boullion are professional and have all excelled. Price had his first really bad game and wasn’t pulled. Price will is playing as good or better than Roy did in his first season with the Canadiens. The playoffs is when a goalies true colors will show.

The Canadiens should do everything they can do to sign Ovechkin in the off season. He is a bonified superstar with his best years ahead of him. The Stanley Cup and Ovechkin is just a matter of time.

If the Canadiens sign Ovechkin, Perezhogin, our first round draft pick would probably come back. Also, Yemelin would probably want to come to the Canadiens.
With that sort of line up I could see the Canadiens becoming a serious Cup contender.

Riberio apparently was our Ovechkin,seventh in league scoring and coming on strong!Who’s to say with Mickey Ribs in are present line-up and the way he’s playing how far we could of gone????THANKS BOB AND GUY FOR THAT ONE AND THANK-YOU HAB FANS WHO ALSO MADE THIS POSSABLE,without your prejudges we could be a serious contender right NOW!!!

Who’s to say Ribs would be doing good here in Montreal? He was here for what 2-3 years and showed skill rarely, he whined here. He didn’t want to play here. I’m for one glad he’s gone. The only reason he’s doing good in Dallas is because of the ice time he’s receiving. He must have whined ther too!!!!!

post26,then by the same token even though he’s playing a very hot game,should Kovalev be sent to Dallas for another bench warmer from the Stars?I seem to remember a lot of whining that was given world attention which was way more of an embarrassment to the Habs organisation and that’s my point.Right now we really could of used Riberio’s services and no doubt would have clearly beaten lesser teams with him by a large margin ,which = points.After all look at what Ribs did to us a couple of games ago…yes to be sure that very,very bad move will define are success this year from what could of been too a just middle of the PAC preformer.Oh by the way what kind of year is Dallas having with Ribs and there’s your answer.

I would bet that Ribiero would still suck here in MTL. He needed a clean break and he got it. Gainey sucked on that trade and most others. That goes for most players who leave the Habs. It seems easier to play in most cities than Montreal. Whether it’s the press or the fanatic fans (like some on this site), there’s a lot of pressure playing for the Habs…
That being said, a lot people want to play here, eg: JP Dumont. I think that Gainey’s conservative style is killing the Habs. Hiring a rookie coach in order to run the bench (by telling the coach how to coach) and being manager wasn’t in MTL’s best interest. Not willing to trade for a big, establish star when you have the assets to do so, is a BIG MISTAKE.
And, lastly, if the team is rebuilding, say so. Don’t sign someone just for the sake of looking like you’re trying (eg Kostompolis (?)). Frankly, say it like it is. Even if the Habs make the playoffs, they won’t get out of the 2nd round. Sign Huet (and Ryder) before Feb. 1st or trade them. Don’t lose them like Souray.

Unfortunately, Gainey likes to sit on the fence. He won’t commit to the playoffs, and he won’t commit to rebuilding, so we’re always in limbo, going round and round in circles. a real catch 22! Personally I would package all the garbage, ie. Brisebois, Bouillon, Begin, Smolinski, and waive all of them, and trade Koivu and Huet, because Koivu can no longer score and useless, and Huet is a UFA at the end of the season, and neither player are in the habs future plans. so get rid of them, and give Koivu an opportunity to be on a contending team, that has a chance at the cup,before he retires, and let’s get a young center with potential to grow.
As far as I’m concerned, Plekanec is now our #1 center, with Kovalev and Kostistyn on our #1 line. Having Koivu with Latendresse and Sergei Kostistyn is NOT a #1 line. Who is Carbo kidding?

Ribeiro was a bum when he played for the Canadiens. He was a cherry picker who never back checked. He always had a knack for scoring in the regular season only. Gainey probably got rid of him because other players were sick of his cherry picking and lack of back checking(ie not a team player).

The whole ribeiro trade was more to do with the dressing room. He wasnt part of the future so gainey washed his hands of him. Yes, looking back in retrospect gainey might have been able to squeeze a little more out of dallas but it is what it is. He is now apart of dallas so i could care less of what he does. Anyways as much as i would love to see gainey puul a good trade off soon i wouldnt hold my breath because no teams are doing anything. How many trades have there been this year in the league?????? Not a heck of alot. Look at toronto, jfj would love to make a trade to save his job but he cant (isnt raycroft due for a raise soon though? lol) Anyways what i am trying to say is that its not only gainey doing nothing, ask any gm in the league to see how hard it is to pull off a trade let alone a blockbuster one. PACTUM,how is Riberio not good for one team and great for another…man he’s from Montreal”Where they really could use a hometown hero”,had a real good junior career,hell even lead the Habs in pts one year:and he’s still in his mid twenty’s ,leads his new team in goals and assists and dam did he ever put the boots to us,ouch!What is he 12th in scoring this year and WE TRADED HIM FOR NINNIMAA,**** man what a bad joke.Truth is,Carbo and Gainey did not know how to help him blossom and with a rebuilding team in their hands that kinda scares me.

Obviously some guys are pissed that we lossed. But I don’t agree with Saku being traded. last year he got alot of goals and assists from Ryder and we all know what happened to him. Samsonov made Kovalev have a horrible season last year and this year Koivu only gets points from 1 guy-HIGGINS! We are 5th place and the kostitsyn goal that should have counted makes us 4th place and I have no reason to panic. Though at the traade deadline, which actually isn’t too far away Bob will make moves.

Habs2010, you are indeed a hockey genius. But out of all your narcissistic mad ramblings I must take exception to one player that you mentioned in a earlier post. No, I will ignore all of your idiotic talk of how crappy the habs goaltenders are and how Huet should be dumped and Price is horrible, because there are many others here who are willing to defend these two. And so they should. I will take exception to you refering to Bouillon as garbage. Contrary to what you think there are many players in the habs lineup that most other teams would like to have, based on age, talent or potential talent. Bouillon is a valuable player. He has contributed a great deal to the successes they have experienced this year and I doubt you would find a single player who puts more effort into every game. Not every player can be a superstar, and Bouillon is far from that. But he is valuable non-the-less.
What would a team run by you look like? Get rid of the youth when they struggle in a few games while learning! Bench the veteran players that make an odd mistake. Make heads roll after every loss – even when the team is still well in the playoff hunt. Waive the depth players because they don’t score like Crosby or Lecavalier. You’d be the perfect boss for the leafs!

If Koivu is useless you are hopeless buddy. Price, I like the kid, but then again, Boston fans loved Andrew Raycroft, and we all see how well that turned out. So if I were Bob Gainey, I would tell all the Habs “fans” to shut the f*ck up and sign Huet for another 2 years.He’s an established All star, Price is gamble.

Actually I’ve heard that the habs are trying to dump Bouillon, and that he will be gone by the end of the season. He’s too small, and not physical enough. But don’t take my word for it. Just ask all the experts. You’ll see.
I’m not overly critical, but want this team to do well, and there are some players that just don’t fit in. This team needs to get bigger, not smaller. The problem is, we’re not tough enough and certainly there’s no physical presence. It must change!

One thing I will agree with you on, Habs 2010, is that the habs should never play afternoon or Sunday games. They always have a hard time with those.

Gainey said today at his news conference, that if the team doesn’t do better on facoffs, he’ll either replace some players, or bring players who can win faceoffs. remember 1 of Ovechkin’s goals, was right off the faceoff. I suggest they go and get Perreault, because he’s a center, and great on faceoffs.
Let’s see if Gainey is all talk or action. It amazes me that 3 coaches who as players, were great at winning faceoffs, yet unable to show their players how to win faceoffs. What does that mean?

sorry but I’m of the opionion that Ribs was a problem immature player that you can’t have as part of your core players. Especially his antics during the playoffs and his theatrics. Even in the latest game, he got two points and was pathetic on a penalty shot. I didn’t buy his skills when with the Habs and surely can’t comprehend his scoring prowess as I have to give credit to his supporting linemates. But all that being said, good luck to him. Now for the current, still say Ryder has to be traded and he’s got to bring in a bigger fish…Marleau, Perreault (for face-offs), or block buster trade (fit in Kovalev, Koivu & possibly Huet…for the right package in return. Wondering what Chicago could package to us. Ryder has got to be on his last stay with the Habs…Brisebois hasn’t gone either way and Begin/Smolinski haven’t helped the team. So my thoughts are to shed some of this dead weight…Keep it going with the kids and grow with their strengths. Let’s go after Chicago tonight. BG might be looking at the Chicago players, Perreault in particular. Go Habs Go!

Koivu, is skating in circles but making bad decisions with the puck, he is not winning important faceoffs, and I think a lot of Ryder’s lack of production is that because of Koivu, If you look at Ryder’s goals from last year he did not carry the puck he was set up in the left slot and scored goals, now he is carrying the puck and seems to have the puck behind the net or on his backhand most of the time. He seems to be working hard but no results. He should look at last years tapes.
Send Price down is not going to improve his confidence with a poor team, he needs to be put with the big club playing every third game and if he gets on a roll then let him play until he loses. Huet will not sign next year because he sees the writing ont he wall with two very good young goaltenders waiting in the wings. Huet cannot handle the puck and is absolute horrible on shootouts. I do have to give him credit though for the other night after giving away a win with his poor puck handling he made some good saves in the shootout OR did he???
Brisebois and Smolinski got to go too.
