- goalie : I am more than a little concerned that the Lafs exposed Halak's inability to stop a player who dekes to Halak's glove hand side. He played those dekes very poorly.
- rocky : The leafs played a strong game and have some pretty deadly shootout threats. We did not lose anyone to injury and that game could have went either way. Now how is that for a positive spin on things eh?
- rocky : I hate to admit this, but I think Andrei Kostitsyn is poised to break his slump. He still skates like a turd, but I just have a feeling. If we get out of this game with no major injuries to key players I will be happy win or lose.
- Senet1 : Mst's I think if they can sign Markov to an extension then they can make move on some of the other defenceman before they become UFA. Hammer is a prime example and likewise so is Gil. Somehow I feel that there is something wrong with a one year contract like Mara's where he can be paid for not playing due to injury and then the team pays his bills and he can leave and go UFA without making up the salary. To me a contract should force a player to play a minimum of 50 games or healthy scatches
- Senet1 : Jagr is a strange player, lots of talent but he has lost his heart and all it is about is money. Edmonton would be better off using the money elsewhere.
- goalie : Rumor has it that the Oilers will be signing Jaromir Jagr to a very $$$$ 3 year contract. Makes sense because Jagr doesn't really want to play on a team that is a contender....so Oilers are a good possibility.
- goalie : I agree with Senet. Plex has been our best player this year. He hasn't been hurt for any long periods and he has done the job. He deserves to be our highest paid player. I sure hope that Markov rebounds next year. I find the Russian players very hard to read as to how they like it on a team and what their plans are going to be.
- Senet1 : To me it is hard not to pay Plex at least Cammy's money. He won't score as many goals but game in and game out Plex has been there and really, he has stayed healthy????
- Mats Naslund : Kesler $5m for 6 years.. 1 point seperates him and Plex in the standings.. Pretty good benchmark?
- Mats Naslund : I guess La presse is reporting that PG is talking extension with Markov's people.
- Mats Naslund : Boston and NY did us a huge solid last night by blowing it. 1 point out of 5th with 11 games to go.
- Mats Naslund : Might be a little sneaky, but what if we made Markov the captain - he would have a hard time leaving as a UFA. Hammrlik's $$ is Markov's in a year. We'll have the $$ to sign him and another UFA. I think I also like BUF in the first round although Miller scares the bajezus out of me. NJ after that.
- Senet1 : may lose him to UFA?? We make up the cap space with Laraque's salary, and the trade of one of are large defenceman salaries.
- Senet1 : There are four contracts that are a must for our GM needs to get done. Plek we need to give him a raise say $5.5M Our two goalies each in the neighbourhood $3M but perhaps the more important contract is Markov's he is not a UFA this year but if we agreed to renegoitate his contract a year earlier for say a raise to $6M next year and $7M for two more years then we may be able to get hims signed for at least 3 or 4 more years. If we let his contract expire and he become a UFA in 2011 then we may
- Senet1 : In fact I knew that I had to play washington, I would rather take them out in the first round.
- Senet1 : Well the one thing that does not matter is our record against any of these teams during the season. This is a much different team than the one we saw play during the majority of the season. Secondly, if I was going to pick a team to play it would be one with weaker goaltending. Right now if I had to pick it would either be Pittsburg or NJ although Washington can be had if Theodore does not play above his head. I believe that any team that can score 4 goals a game has a chance to beat Washing
- goalie : NJ would be my second choice followed by Pens OR Caps - don't think it much matters. No easy pickings Habs!
- goalie : Well the good news is that we're playing much better now than at times during the year. The Habs MUST play their bestagainst ANY of these teams to have a chance. We lost three staraight to the Pens, the Caps scare me because they have talent, NJ have improved greatly but we have played well vs them. I think we only beat Buf once but all but one game was very close. I guess I'd take my chances vs ther Sabres as I think our style matches up well against them.If we could beat Miller we could win.
- Mats Naslund : Unless we see a miracle, MON will be a 5-8 seed. So who between WAS, PIT, BUF, or NJ do you want in the 1st round?
- Mats Naslund : Metro is 35. I cant see them giving more than 1yr. He definitely deserves a spot next year though.
- Avatar37 : Senet - I agree, Metropolit is impressive and Metro and Moen always seem to come up clutch. I really hope they sign him to a 3-4 year deal.
- goalie : Isn't it a lot more interesting and fun when our team is playing well and on a run!
- Senet1 : So we have a good third line the fourth line is playing responsible hockey and the first line is generating offense as well as controling the play. Plek is playing hard and still managing to get a goal here and there so if Cammy can get back maybe we have four solid lines. Right now Martin is rolling the four lines well and I think we are tiring out the other teams.
- Senet1 : I also am impressed with our fourth line Metro, Lapierre and Darche. They are playing some productive minutes killing time and tieing up the other team in their zone.
- Senet1 : This line sort of reminds me of the Gainey line, they always scored the big goals in tight games. Believe it or not when the game was tied 1-1 I thought is is about time our third line got a goal and a few minutes later they did. It is become a regular thing this line.
- rocky : Moore brings great puck possession in the offensive zone and Segie can finish plays. Nice to watch, they are smoking third lines on other teams right now.
- Senet1 : I agree his brother is working out really well with Moore and Moan. They have offensive abilities and at the same time are very responsible defensively.
- rocky : He has talent you know, but just no intensity or desire for hockey at this stage. He should watch his brother right now and do his best to emulate him.
- rocky : That would s*ck. They should sit his ass.
- Senet1 : Yea I agree, because if not either Pyatt or Darche will be sent back down maybe both?
- goalie : I must say I'm impressed with ther attitude , effort and quality of play the Habs are exhibiting. I didn't think they'd pull it off this year. A playoff spot is certainly there for the taking. WAY TO GO BOYS and KEEP IT UP. Thius is a whole lot better team for the fans to be cheering on also!!!
- rocky : He has no DESIRE out there and that is such a killer when every other guy out there is really playing hard as hell.
- rocky : In my mind we would lose nothing whatsoever by sitting him and giving a rookie a shot. Especially when Cammalari returns.
- Senet1 : yea really, just when his brother starts to play well he disappears completely. Is he playing injured, if so he should sit out and get well.
- rocky : Oh my god, if you are looking for negatives right now that is the place to start. He is not even trying to skate. Did you even notice him other than his badly timed penalties?

January 31, 2008 pm31 6:34 pm
Go Habs Go, this ain’t a rematch, it will just be another beating. Go Habs Go.
January 31, 2008 pm31 8:53 pm
BEN! what have you done? Never say that. this is the Habs…. We all need to go into this pesimistically so we can be happily surprised LOL
January 31, 2008 pm31 9:20 pm
Seriously, we don’t need cockiness, from the fans or the Habs. Anyways I’ve ragged on Ryder all year and now it’s Higgins turn. He said he’s capable of 40 goals, ha! Prove it. You’re on the number one line so you have the opportunities bury it already. That line as whole needs to turn it on and stop being so streaky. Anyways lotta time left in this one lets go habs!
January 31, 2008 pm31 9:20 pm
Jeez they arent helping Huet out at all! 8 shots! How embarassing.
January 31, 2008 pm31 9:21 pm
Well, got to say some nice hits by Ryder, but he’s not neting any in nor Higgins. Huet’s doing ok,but not many scoring chances or offence from the Habs. We are down 2 goals and 1/2 the game left to play and even though we are playing good D. AIN’T GOING TO WIN UNLESS WE GET 3 GOALS.
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:16 pm
We are playing real good in the third. come on and score! ur only down by 1!!!
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:30 pm
HEY Pactum this Lats for you .
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:42 pm
I hate to lose, but Good game habs,I have to say. not the sharpest for Huet but Ovechkin is a great scorer.
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:49 pm
at least we got a point, but too bad our defence didn’t show up tonight.
Nevertheless we’ll take the point because Boston is beating Ottawa.
Wow, if only we had a player like Ovechkin! c’mon Bob get us a sniper!
And please put Ryder out of our miseries.
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:50 pm
Who’s Sidney??
Ovechkin is the real MVP of the league.
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:52 pm
Still dissapointed by Koivu’s line, but nice to see the team play well when behind. A very important point.
January 31, 2008 pm31 10:54 pm
I’m feeling the same – a great point and an even better comeback!

Who’s Sidney??
Ovechkin is the real MVP of the league
You do realise that If Crosby was not injured he would be battling ovechkin for MVP, right?
January 31, 2008 pm31 11:02 pm
Habfreak, not saying Sidney’s a POS, just that Ovechkin is far more valuable to his team than Crosby is to his.
Washington – Ovechkin = ECHL team
January 31, 2008 pm31 11:04 pm
Ovechkin FOR Ryder straight across.lol
January 31, 2008 pm31 11:08 pm
Ovechkin is a 1 man wrecking crew. awesome! every bit as good as Lafleur was, and probably in the same class as the rocket.
January 31, 2008 pm31 11:18 pm
ovechkin and kovalev on the same team……priceless…….damn i’m dreaming again ….
February 1, 2008 pm31 1:21 am
Well..i couldnt say it beter myself..the “K’ brothers are fantastic..its really good to see OV play good for Washington..when the hockey and hits are that good..it makes losing even enjoyable…sure …we cant have everything..but when the caliber of play is that intense..iam happy with the 1 point…and guys…way to go to keep the blog going while watching the game..its fun isnt it?..kind of like who “the man”..predicting the outcome..GREAT HOCKEY!!!
February 1, 2008 pm31 1:24 am
LADY BING for Sid “the kid”..”IRONMAN HARDASS NON COMPLAINER AWARD FOR OVECHKIN”!!!!!Sid would be crying for his mom with a beating like OV got…Sids a “homo”…sapien…lol…lol
February 1, 2008 pm31 3:05 am
Great comeback but this was Ovechkin’s night! Huge point tonight since the Sens lost in regulation. And all of you who were trash-talking Latendresse earlier this season, better shut it now. This line of Maxim, Gui, & Serge is really gelling. Good on Guy for keeping that line out there in the last minute to tie it up. They had all the momentum.
And I agree with the 5th post… BEN totally jinxed us by saying “can we keep Ovechkin off the scoresheet?” He’s an amazing player and it was bitter-sweet to see him get those 4 goals(cause he’s in my hockey pool, he should be in everyones)
Big weekend coming up against the NYs! Afternoon games too, when we’ve struggled the most. GO HABS GO! FIGHT FOR FIRST!
February 1, 2008 pm31 8:28 am
islanders we can beat but the rangers?mmmmm…I don’t know

RematchPosted on January 31st, 2008. About The Habs, The NHL.Can the Canadiens keep Ovechkin off the score sheet for another 60 minutes?
No they can’t:)
February 1, 2008 pm31 9:13 am
gohabs.com
They copy everything from canadiens.com
Very stupid
February 1, 2008 pm31 9:28 am
We play the sens twice net week. Very important. f we are going to finish 1st in the east. this is when in could come true.
February 1, 2008 pm31 11:09 am
The emergence of the Kostitsyn brothers is making all the difference for this team. They have elevated the lines that they play on. They play with emotion, have great moves and Sergei can certainly hit (even hit Brashear last night). Latendresse is also starting to come around. Don’t forget that he, as well as Sergei, are only twenty years old. Everyone is rightly talking about Ovechkins play last night however don’t forget that the Habs came back from a 2 goal deficit with approximatly 6 minutes left in the game and were also down 3-0 at one time. They never gave up and as a result their confidence is soaring. All they need to do now is beat Ottawa to show that they are a serious contender. Tall order, however if they keep playing they way they are all is possible. Ahhh, to be able to dream again.
February 1, 2008 pm31 11:22 am
Ryan White should get a call up. Give him a taste of the NHL level. It would be good for his development.
February 1, 2008 pm31 12:19 pm
Thank you Dancan81….finally others are seeing thats its not just Ryder who’s not getting it done. Ryder has been the fallguy all year so far…he’s been getting it from the fans, he’s the only one on those top lines who’s been benched for not producing, and Guy is still moving him around from line to line. Higgins and Koivu are playing just as horrible…it just stands out more for Ryder cuz he’s been the “goal scorer”. Honestly, this is Koivu’s worst year yet, and for a player at the skill level he’s apparently at, it seems whoever Guy puts with him is getting dragged down offensively too. And it seems as if Higgins is gonna be in that spot for the rest of the year. Guy is playing these two as if they’re conjoined twins. They stay together no matter how poorly they play, and its been quite a while now. They’re not producing with or without Ryder, and they’re not being benched or moved around or replaced on a shift by Smolinski. Higgins got hands like lobster claws this year and can’t bury anything, and Koivu is playing like a 3rd liner at best. I’m not saying Ryder should’nt be blamed for this line producing nothing, but he should’nt be blamed alone. And thanks again Dancan81 for seeing this and saying it, I’ve been waiting all year for someone to recognize this.
Anyways, we got a point last night that we really should’nt have gotten, so I can’t be upset by that. Played poorly, but thats gonna happen from time to time. Under 20 shots I think, but this point is a good thing…..good teams can do this, play poorly and still get points, so this is another move in the right direction for our Habs. Thats 5 behind the Sens now, and 5 more head to head matches yet this year with 2 of those coming up soon….could be interesting.
One more thing I have to mention is becoming so painfully obvious thats its not even argueable anymore(for anyone watching the games, that it)…How Begin still has a job here is unbelievable. Listen, the Guy is just not an NHL caliber player. Taking stupid penalties at the wrong times and not having the skill level to play against other NHL players are two things he’s shows almost every night, but the last few games have been standouts. Twice in one game he put us down to 5 on 3, both of which resulted in goals against a few nights ago, and last night Guy actually thought this guy could play against Ovechkin, …we saw how Ovechkin was shut down last night….4 goals, 5 points…its laughable. When you’re in the offensive end, high along the boards, and you flip the puck over the glass on the backboards resulting in a penalty…thats a lack of skill. He gave up a two on one break last night for trying to hold the puck along the boards in the corner of the offensive end without cycling it behind the net where Smolinski was…the result was, Wash got the puck, these two guys were caught deep, and Wash scored again. He went minus 3 last night, the worst on the team, and yet, was still on the ice with Smolinski, against Ovechkin, with 1:30 left in 4 on 4 OT…IN OVERTIME???? Oh yeah, I might add, that resulted in Ovechkins game winning goal. Anything else need to be said? I mean, someone out there gotta see this too, please tell me you do. I’ve really had enough of this guy, and Carbo’s undying devotion to him…he’s hurting the team night after night by doing things are directly responsible for goals against. And why he’s out there and Dandanault is sitting boggles the mind.
Now, I can’t change this, I can just point it out, but mark my words fellow Habs fans, I’m saying right here….this guy is going to cost this team a victory in a very big, very important game yet this year, and we’re all gonna be left scratching our heads yet again as to why. He’s not skilled enough to play the type of game he’s out there to play at this level, and last night was just one more attribute to this. As one of the best defensive forwards ever, Carbo can’t see this? Christ I’m not at ice level, and I can. But if Guy likes him so much that he’s gonna keep giving him regular shifts against stars of this league, instead of throwing him out at intervals to throw his body in front of shots(which is all he’s good for), we’re gonna suffer for it…wait and see.
Four game stretch at home coming up guys, pull it back together and lets catch these Sens boys. GO HABS GO !!!
February 1, 2008 pm31 12:49 pm
Huet has been playing good but Halak isn’t that bad. they should really try him out. He’ll start against the rangers or Islanders for sure.
February 1, 2008 pm31 5:03 pm
let halak start vs. the rangers…unless huet makes more than 40 saves:)
February 1, 2008 pm31 5:09 pm
