10 Games Remain
-
The Canadiens have just 10 regular season games left, tonight and Tuesday’s the only games against non-divisional opponents.
Yes, the last 8 games of the year are ALL against Northeast teams, all whom still believe they are in the playoff hunt. And with so many Divisional games remaining, anything can happen.
Needless to say, the Habs need to secure no less than 4 points against the non contending Islanders and Blues or they risk making the final 8 games even harder on themselves.

- Senet1 : Mst's I think if they can sign Markov to an extension then they can make move on some of the other defenceman before they become UFA. Hammer is a prime example and likewise so is Gil. Somehow I feel that there is something wrong with a one year contract like Mara's where he can be paid for not playing due to injury and then the team pays his bills and he can leave and go UFA without making up the salary. To me a contract should force a player to play a minimum of 50 games or healthy scatches
- Senet1 : Jagr is a strange player, lots of talent but he has lost his heart and all it is about is money. Edmonton would be better off using the money elsewhere.
- goalie : Rumor has it that the Oilers will be signing Jaromir Jagr to a very $$$$ 3 year contract. Makes sense because Jagr doesn't really want to play on a team that is a contender....so Oilers are a good possibility.
- goalie : I agree with Senet. Plex has been our best player this year. He hasn't been hurt for any long periods and he has done the job. He deserves to be our highest paid player. I sure hope that Markov rebounds next year. I find the Russian players very hard to read as to how they like it on a team and what their plans are going to be.
- Senet1 : To me it is hard not to pay Plex at least Cammy's money. He won't score as many goals but game in and game out Plex has been there and really, he has stayed healthy????
- Mats Naslund : Kesler $5m for 6 years.. 1 point seperates him and Plex in the standings.. Pretty good benchmark?
- Mats Naslund : I guess La presse is reporting that PG is talking extension with Markov's people.
- Mats Naslund : Boston and NY did us a huge solid last night by blowing it. 1 point out of 5th with 11 games to go.
- Mats Naslund : Might be a little sneaky, but what if we made Markov the captain - he would have a hard time leaving as a UFA. Hammrlik's $$ is Markov's in a year. We'll have the $$ to sign him and another UFA. I think I also like BUF in the first round although Miller scares the bajezus out of me. NJ after that.
- Senet1 : may lose him to UFA?? We make up the cap space with Laraque's salary, and the trade of one of are large defenceman salaries.
- Senet1 : There are four contracts that are a must for our GM needs to get done. Plek we need to give him a raise say $5.5M Our two goalies each in the neighbourhood $3M but perhaps the more important contract is Markov's he is not a UFA this year but if we agreed to renegoitate his contract a year earlier for say a raise to $6M next year and $7M for two more years then we may be able to get hims signed for at least 3 or 4 more years. If we let his contract expire and he become a UFA in 2011 then we may
- Senet1 : In fact I knew that I had to play washington, I would rather take them out in the first round.
- Senet1 : Well the one thing that does not matter is our record against any of these teams during the season. This is a much different team than the one we saw play during the majority of the season. Secondly, if I was going to pick a team to play it would be one with weaker goaltending. Right now if I had to pick it would either be Pittsburg or NJ although Washington can be had if Theodore does not play above his head. I believe that any team that can score 4 goals a game has a chance to beat Washing
- goalie : NJ would be my second choice followed by Pens OR Caps - don't think it much matters. No easy pickings Habs!
- goalie : Well the good news is that we're playing much better now than at times during the year. The Habs MUST play their bestagainst ANY of these teams to have a chance. We lost three staraight to the Pens, the Caps scare me because they have talent, NJ have improved greatly but we have played well vs them. I think we only beat Buf once but all but one game was very close. I guess I'd take my chances vs ther Sabres as I think our style matches up well against them.If we could beat Miller we could win.
- Mats Naslund : Unless we see a miracle, MON will be a 5-8 seed. So who between WAS, PIT, BUF, or NJ do you want in the 1st round?
- Mats Naslund : Metro is 35. I cant see them giving more than 1yr. He definitely deserves a spot next year though.
- Avatar37 : Senet - I agree, Metropolit is impressive and Metro and Moen always seem to come up clutch. I really hope they sign him to a 3-4 year deal.
- goalie : Isn't it a lot more interesting and fun when our team is playing well and on a run!
- Senet1 : So we have a good third line the fourth line is playing responsible hockey and the first line is generating offense as well as controling the play. Plek is playing hard and still managing to get a goal here and there so if Cammy can get back maybe we have four solid lines. Right now Martin is rolling the four lines well and I think we are tiring out the other teams.
- Senet1 : I also am impressed with our fourth line Metro, Lapierre and Darche. They are playing some productive minutes killing time and tieing up the other team in their zone.
- Senet1 : This line sort of reminds me of the Gainey line, they always scored the big goals in tight games. Believe it or not when the game was tied 1-1 I thought is is about time our third line got a goal and a few minutes later they did. It is become a regular thing this line.
- rocky : Moore brings great puck possession in the offensive zone and Segie can finish plays. Nice to watch, they are smoking third lines on other teams right now.
- Senet1 : I agree his brother is working out really well with Moore and Moan. They have offensive abilities and at the same time are very responsible defensively.
- rocky : He has talent you know, but just no intensity or desire for hockey at this stage. He should watch his brother right now and do his best to emulate him.
- rocky : That would s*ck. They should sit his ass.
- Senet1 : Yea I agree, because if not either Pyatt or Darche will be sent back down maybe both?
- goalie : I must say I'm impressed with ther attitude , effort and quality of play the Habs are exhibiting. I didn't think they'd pull it off this year. A playoff spot is certainly there for the taking. WAY TO GO BOYS and KEEP IT UP. Thius is a whole lot better team for the fans to be cheering on also!!!
- rocky : He has no DESIRE out there and that is such a killer when every other guy out there is really playing hard as hell.
- rocky : In my mind we would lose nothing whatsoever by sitting him and giving a rookie a shot. Especially when Cammalari returns.
- Senet1 : yea really, just when his brother starts to play well he disappears completely. Is he playing injured, if so he should sit out and get well.
- rocky : Oh my god, if you are looking for negatives right now that is the place to start. He is not even trying to skate. Did you even notice him other than his badly timed penalties?
- Senet1 : I bet Hamilton could beat them anyway.
- rocky : Exactly senet, the leafs live to put out players when they are in their predictable non-playoff position. I can almost gaurantee they do it again.
- Senet1 : Something is going on in AK46's head. He has played badly before but right now his head is not even in the game?

It was only a few short weeks ago I blatantly said that Pronger was an arrogant and selfish person, and his rough play and smirking grin made me sick to see when he should not have been nominated to go…now i stand by my thoughts as I witness the testament made by the NHL review committee and the menial 8 game suspension given for “stomping” on a player,
It serves no justification whatsoever when a precedent was set by Chris Simon.
I am appalled by the convienience(given by the commissioner) that this man will be playing in the post season!
As a player and fan,I believe he should have the rest of the season off!
March 15, 2008 pm31 6:07 pm
By the way that was to go(Pronger) to the “All Star Game”

Iam pleased to announce that Chris Pronger will relinquishing to the tune of 609,756.08 in salary from games missed from his pitally suspension. The monies will be transfered to a “Players Emergency Fund”..in case one of them doesnt have change for the bus, or they cant afford that “special operation” for their families or friends, thus another wonderful Tax write off for the leaugue and the “cronies” that run it…a JOKE!!!!
March 15, 2008 pm31 9:47 pm

hablifer, we got one tonight but the good news is we are playing better 5 on 5 and scoring some goals, something we had a problem with earlier in the season. Our power play is still #1 in the league, this time of year more teams are concentrating on special teams, getting ready for playoffs, I don’t think there is much to worry about we will get our share of PP goals
March 16, 2008 pm31 1:01 am
I just want to see more consistency from this team. If we could only find a way to beat Ottawa, then I’ll be convinced we can get the job done.

WOHOO Ottawa is losing 4-1 with 12 minutes left in the third.
March 16, 2008 pm31 6:11 pm
Thanks joebone..ill answer my own questions…anyway I don’t ike the fact that the “wiener” in the southeast division gets one of the top spots ..they could jump leaps and bounds over teams with more points than them..ridiculous..its an AMERICAN scheme to say the least..they do not do it in the NBA!
March 16, 2008 pm31 6:54 pm
It gonna get dropped next year I am pretty sure… thanks to the Canes we remain in 1st , see Ottawa is a black sheep for us thats all , we just need to side step them in the playoffs or we need to kick their collective rears in the 2 games we have left against them. Sure looks like the al might Laffs will be on the golf course’s early this year…
March 16, 2008 pm31 7:33 pm
I wish they’d find a way to beat Ottawa – everyone else has.
March 16, 2008 pm31 8:27 pm
For all you “know everything about the Habs” fans…
Ken Reardon passed away March 14,… who the hell is REARDON????
Born 1921, signed his first contract with the Habs on Oct 26,1940
341 games played,26 goals,122 points ,604 penalty min, 1st all star and 2-2nd all star team selections, played with the Ottawa Commandos army team and won the Allan Cup Won the Stanley Cup in 1946..retired at 30 years of age!
His most personal accomplishment??…awarded FIELD MARSHALL MONTGOMERY CERTIFICATE of MERIT for several acts of bravery during BATTLE !
This man ..my friends is a true HAB!!!!!!
March 16, 2008 pm31 8:47 pm
Two things, Ottawa will either fall before we meet them in the playoffs or we will figure out a way to beat them, if not it was not meant to be this year. Secondly,I agree that the Canes should not automatically get into the playoffs just because they win their division, I do believe that they discussed this and it is supposed to be changed not sure if it is next year or not?? Anyway other than getting the third seed, they will probaby have at least enough points to finish 7th or 8th in our conference.
March 17, 2008 pm31 11:13 am
I was just sizing up the standings, and you know it’s quite a shame that Ott owns us the way they do. We could have the 1 or 2 seed almost wrapped up now if we could even split the series.
Again we’re 2 pts. ahead of them with even games played. Just like last week before they came to town to pass us again. And the same position we may be in again next week when we face them again. Trying to stay hopeful with these Habs/Sens match-ups. I’m even saying to myself…..1 and 5 means we’re due, lol…..optimism at its best.
But we’ve gotta get these guys outta our heads somehow. If anyone watched the Sens/Canes game on Sunday, you saw that the Canes did nothing magical to beat them. They came at them hard, stayed skating, and hit everyone (including Spez and Heat). I’ll say it again….when this line doesn’t have the run of the show, Ott doesn’t win.
The reality is, we CAN beat Ott…..its just other teams show-up to play them and we don’t. The same way we own the Bruins this year….they haven’t been a part of most of the games we beat them in this year. And you just know that Bruins fans are cursing us, and frustrated at our dominance over them the same way we are with the Sens.
” We can’t beat the Sens” ? ……HORSE **** !!! Get the stupid thought outta our guys heads that we’re beaten before the puck drops, and play them hard. Skate, score and hit the same way we beat other teams this year to rack up 40 wins this year..the same amount as Ott. They’re not a magical team full of wizards and warlocks…..they’re a team of god damn men just like us, with one scoring line. It’s just a shame that we’re bending over for them instead of playing them with heart and desire, like we have done to every other team this year. Bottom line…if we pull together and get mad, and figure this puzzle out for the last 2 games against them….the 1 or 2 seed is all but ours. Let them deal with Pit or NJ in the first round. GO HABS GO !!!
March 17, 2008 pm31 12:43 pm
Jaroslav Halak is getting the start tomorrow. I read it on TSN.CA Ice Chips.
March 17, 2008 pm31 1:50 pm
That’s right. Play Halak against the Weak Teams so he can rack up the impressive #’s.
Play Price against the Top Teams and his #’s drop.
Price has nothing to prove. He has done it all so far. Halak has proved that he can beat Weak Teams I guess.
Anyway, good luck Halak. Keep up the good work!
March 17, 2008 pm31 3:22 pm
I witnessed this game in Bell Centre, just behind Halak twice.
Halak was amazing! Positing, Timing, Visioning,… just a perfect game from Halak.
Too bad we have two (too) good goalies…
March 17, 2008 pm31 3:38 pm
Many Habs fans are talking on the topic:
Putting Price as the #1 goalie, no problem at all; but it’s kind of wasting Halak, the 22-year-old talented goalie as a backup…
March 17, 2008 pm31 3:38 pm
h4life ,we have the 2 best young Goalies you can have on one team! Too bad????lol, perfact . The nets are set for years to come.

why wouldn’t the sens want to play us? they beat us every time! common sense.By the same token, the habs want the bruins in the 1st round. the team you have the most success against in the regular season, is the same team you want to face in the playoffs. the problem with the habs is, they have the sens in their head. It’s all the psyche. habs need some positive reinforcement, or hypnosis! Just play in their faces, and ram it down their throats, just like Carolina did! look and learn Carbo and players!

nm about my llast comment. Price and Halak find the battle for #1 fun and they say they are really good friends. As long as one of them don’t turn into Emery, I think he’s fine.
