haflifer and I sent carbo our game plan it seems to be working so far, but you cannot play a run an gun game against Ottawa, you have to check, check and check some more take the man skate fast and force turnovers. Ottawa looks confused in the first.

Two things, guys...

First, the Habs lead the league in offence this season, and with Ottawa struggling both defensively and in goal (to put it lightly) the Habs should be able to run and gun their way to victory. I don't understand why it hasn't happened yet, quite honestly.

Second, the Leafs are playing over their heads, on pure emotion, in a fuitless effort to prove all of the naysayers wrong. They're nothing more than spoilers right now, and spoilers can beat any superior team when they're inspired, as history has shown. So I think it is difficult to measure your success against a team based upon how another team has played against them. If this was at all meaningful, then why have the Leafs not been able to beat Boston this season? In fact, Boston has owned them, much like Montreal has owned Boston. Get my point?

If the Leafs can beat Ottawa so can we.

We have to prove that we can beat them. It would be a huge confidence boost.

Against Ottawa this year are the only game our boys don't play with confidence. Gotta get mad out there tonight....they're trying to take whats ours. Gotta hit the first line into submission. These guys aren't the same players when they're fending off checks every time they hit our zone. Let em go free again, and it's gonna be a repeat of the last couple of games.
And the last 2 games with our 4th liners marking this 1st line....we've been outscored 9-1, with our guys minus 6/7....this doesn't work okay. Time to try a different approach....Kostopolous and Smolinski cannot play with Heatley and Spezza........PERIOD. Do it again, expect more of the same. I just wanna watch the Habs play tonight, not the Bulldogs...give us an effort against these guys tonight. Don't be using Komisarek as an excuse if we lose, that will sound like Leaf fans. He was there for both thrashings the last 2 games, nothing was different. Enough bullshit and excuses, our guys just have to flat-out play hard and show up. If it ends up that we can't beat this team at all...we gotta hope for someone to help us out in the first couple of playoff rounds if we wanna go anywhere.....we meet them in there, it could be very ugly. I still say its 50% mental, we can beat them, and the only way to get these guys outta our heads is to come out swinging. Lets have a good performance tonight guys...win or lose. GO HABS GO !!!

The trap may work, but Ottawa has been used to breaking the trap and most teams can devise ways to deal with the trap, to make it work we have to use our speed and our forechecking ability. I believe the key is our speed because Ottawa has speed too and we need to force them to give away the puck by forcing it to the outside in the neutral zone.
I believe that is the reason we have been successful against Jersey who are the best trapping team in the league. Our speed does not allow them to set up the trap. With Ottawa speed on the forecheck will hopefully force them to cough up the puck. Shutting down the first line is key but many times the move Alfredson to their second line and so we have to be prepared for two scoring lines.
