Hats off to the Habs

A win tonight will put the Canadiens into 1st in the Conference and force the Penguins to win tomorrow.

Depending how the chips fall into place over the last weekend of the regular season,
it looks as though the Canadiens will play the Senators, Bruins or Flyers in the first round.

The Maple Leafs may look to spoil the party and go out with a bang like they did against the Senators, injuring 2 key players.

Regardless of how it all ends, the Canadiens have surprised and impressed, exceeded any and all expectations, and find themselves with a very legitimate shot at winning it all.

Go Habs Go!

Stewart looks more like a skater than a fighter, I will pass to you guys judgement but if he has that kind of speed I would hope that eventually he becomes a goal scorer.

I don’t think it has anything to do with making anyone look good, this rivalry has been going on for decades and there have been very few games that were not good contest. Lets face it the Leafs always get up for the habs and probably play there best hockey. If the leafs played the same against every other team in the league they would probably be in the playoff this year. They always raise their level of play against us. I think the attitude of the habs tonight is to play well but there does not seem to be too much sacrifice yet tonight, it is almost like they are trying not to get hurt.

      Just a couple of observations…

Everyone knows that this Habs team is skilled, but please, stop with the fancy plays in front of the net and shoot the puck every now and again. This game easily could have been a massacre.

Also, Tucker’s and McCabe’s actions tonight speak volumes about the organization that is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Quite pathetic. They’re like a bunch of bratty children who didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas. Well, no Long silver trophies for you this year, Leafs, but how about a nice blue, white and red c*** lodged up your collective arses instead? It fits you.

Of course he does. He has a history with them, which makes him pro-Bruins, anti-Habs for life.

Boston still should not be taken lightly however.

I wish I could shed some light on the match-ups throughout the playoffs, but I’m not clear on how it works myself. I had always thought that the highest seeded team would play the remaining lowest seeded teams as the layoffs progress, and so on. I have a feeling that this is incorrect though.

Just FYI, all the talk recently has been about Washington, and rightly so as they went from non-contenders to contenders over the course of a late season surge. (I won’t mention 3rd seed becasue I believe the seeding system to be flawed in this regard - they only have as many points as the 6th, 7th and 8th seeded teams do.) However, your beloved Habs, at 8-1-1 over their last 10 games, have been nearly as hot as the Capitals, at 9-1-0 over their last 10 games.

We should probably stop underestimating our team.

Well, I wouldn’t use anything that happened in today’s game as any indication of what kind of player Malkin is. The Penguins didn’t show up for this game, collectively, and the suggestion that it was on purpose is becoming less difficult to believe.

That being said, Crosby is a whining pussy, and I cannot stand him. ;-)

Posted on April 6th, 2008 at 5:50 pm. About 'Hats off to the Habs'.

Well I have to agree, if Pitts actually tried to lose this game then I have no respect for them. Crobsy came back too soon from his injury, the type of injury he had is worse than a break and many players who have this injury continue to have trouble with it for years.

Having said that Pitts seems to play without Crosby for quite some time and successfully so it should not have mattered whether he was in the line up or not. they are definitely a better team with Crosby in the lineup but Malkin’s team did not show up today and from what I saw there was just no effort there at all, which means this team has no pride. Pitts owed Boston and Ottawa there best game and they did not give it. They also owed their fans their best effort to finish first, and they DID NOT GIVE IT. I lost my respect for this organization today.

I lost my respect for them a while ago. Typical Pittsburgh mentality: they refuse to change with the times. (Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.) They think that they can run and gun their way to Stanley Cups by loading up with superstar talent. Well, that approach doesn’t work anyumore, sadly.

Pittsburgh is like an 85-year old physician who keeps wanting to throw first generation penicillin at everything that has evolved to resist it.

As far as having Vinni or Thornton I really like both of these guys and if I am looking for a centreman to build a team around give me big Joe. I have always like him. I would take Vinni too because he is a good fit in Montreal. But like Gretzky Crosby will have people who do not like him. I for one would not turn him down if I had chance to get him on my team. There are a lot of very good players in the League. I am parcial to Canadian boys though because to me they have more passion for what the Stanley Cup really means.

Joseph, good point. Today reminded me of Detroit a few years ago, all they had to do was tie or beat Chicago and Montreal was in the playoffs, stead they brought up their AHL goalie and sat out all their best players and got beat. It was obvious they did not want the Habs in the Playoffs that year.

Well give me a whole team of Canadian boys and with a few decent superstar players and my team will be there every year. You should be picking and if you were the general manager and did not like Crosby then you should not take him. I know that if he were on my team especially had say the Canadiens drafted him he would have a different attitude than he has, he became too important tot he Pittsburg team too soon. If he were on my team we would not have been team captain until he stopped his wining.

Well we have a Canadian Boy leading the way in Goal, Our defence is mostly Canadian although I have to admit that Markov is so far a good leader back there. Up front, Kovy seems to be our leader this year. The one thing I see in Kovy this year he seems to want to prove something and even though he is not our Captain most of the time he has been our team leader all year.

It is your senior players that take these rookies aside and tell them they are embassing their teammates. That is were the leadership role comes in, as a rookie you better toe the line or else. Crosby came into Pittsburg and basically was the star of the team overnight and soon to be captain as well. There was no mentorship there at all.

All 3 years the Habs had over 100 points.

All 3 years the Habs went to the Stanley Cup Finnals.

Habs won the Stanley Cup TWO year of the Three years.

The one thing that the former Canadien teams had was a fear of losing. That is what made the so good, the 1993 team also had confidence that they could win in overtime. This team seems to be starting to gain that confidence as well. Some said earlier that he expects Boston to play a goon style of play, if they do our power play should prevail.

Hey guys……everyone just bursting in anticipation of the playoffs like me? Silly question I guess.
First of all….CONGRADULATIONS BOYS ON A TERRIFIC YEAR AND THE CONFERENCE CROWN…alot of people are proud believers again.
Second, everyone except for Saku will apparently be back for game 1.
Third, it amazes me that no one anywhere is talking about the absolute dirt and true cowradice of McCabe’s actions at the end of the game. A brutal slash and a spear with intent to injure in the same play. Nothing said, nothing done. It’s the end of the year so these things don’t matter anymore? Maybe it’s because it was on Steward…or maybe, seeing how the league seems to be pretty snuggly with Toronto, they are letting it go because these pathetic players on a pathetic teams with no signs of anything good coming there way has been through enough. Thats probably closer..but still a fine or suspension is warranted for this classless act from a classless guy from a classless organization.
One last thing to touch on….going back to 1985(before that there were next to no Europeans in the league, making those years redundant). No European captain has ever won a Cup, we all know that..only one captain has ever won a Cup who wasn’t Canadian, Derian Hatcher was that man…not Modano. And as for the playoff MVP…only twice has this ever not gone to a Canadian..them being Lidstrom and Leetch. So the numbers are staggering..in the last 22 seasons (and beyond) 21 times the captain of the winner has been Canadian and 20 of the 22 times the best player in the playoffs has been a canuck.
Not dumping on our boys, just sharing the numbers. GO HABS GO !!!
