Habs / Bruins: Game 5
-
The Bruins have played as good as they possibly can and still find themselves down 3-1 in the series.
On the verge of elimination.
The Habs have not yet played their best and are just one game away from advancing to the second round.
91% of teams leading 3-1 end up winning the series.
The Habs and Bruins being involved in one of those few upsets. The 7th seed Canadiens came back from a 3-1 Bruins series lead to advance to the second round in 2004.
Some more offensive production from the regular season’s highest scoring team would be a welcome sign. As well as a more efficient powerplay.
With Carey Price leading the NHL Playoffs in Save Percentage and G.A.A, some more offense from the Canadiens should be enough to get it done in 5.
Mark Streit will rest an injured hip and Michael Ryder returns to the lineup.

April 17, 2008 pm30 2:41 pm
If there ever is a reason for our stars to shine it is tonight.
We can drive the final nail in the Coffin of Bruins season and put them out of their missery.
We can then work on the elements of the Game that we are lacking before we play the 2nd round of the Playoffs.
Lets GO GUYS ………..
April 17, 2008 pm30 3:12 pm
I can feel it comming in the air tonight, oh Lord.
I been waiting for this momment for all my………..
April 17, 2008 pm30 3:12 pm
Canadiens recall six from AHL Bulldogs…
The first impact of Bob Gainey’s recall action will be forcing the existing lineup players to fight for their positions (good, stay; not good, out). That’s going to be a war in Game 5! Poor Bruins.
April 17, 2008 pm30 3:18 pm
Yes.
Those poor bloody Bruins…….
April 17, 2008 pm30 3:39 pm
You know, I have been Sacrificing as well for the playoffs.
1. I have given up ***.
2. I have not shaved. (they always ask at work “Who’s the new guy”)
3. I have not showered. (they always ask at work “Who’s the new stinky guy”)
My wife won’t go near me, well maybe that’s a good thing cuase I’m not having any nookie.
It’s very Tuff being a Die Hard Habs Fan………..
April 17, 2008 pm30 3:51 pm
1. I have given up ***.
[becuase you love Ryder]
2. I have not shaved. (they always ask at work “Who’s the new guy”)
[because you shaved on the head, not on the face, like Habs players]
3. I have not showered. (they always ask at work “Who’s the new stinky guy”)
[because want to keep the winning scent]
April 17, 2008 pm30 4:23 pm
number 1!!! we are cup destined
April 17, 2008 pm30 5:31 pm
Lets start by getting to round 2 ! that being said I have a good feeling for tonight , let’s hope it holds true.
April 17, 2008 pm30 7:34 pm
The boys seem to be skating tonight, hope they keep that up because I do not think the bruins can stay with then if they skate like that.
Koivu skating second day if he keeps improving should be back sometime next week.
April 17, 2008 pm30 7:49 pm
Carey Price! What a save! That was magic…
April 17, 2008 pm30 7:54 pm
Just with a blind sweep, Carey saved the shot, NOTHING TO SAY!
THE HABS CAN JUST PUT THE FATE ON PRICE!!!
April 17, 2008 pm30 8:00 pm
Right on habs4life
April 17, 2008 pm30 8:44 pm
We quite skating that period and gradually the bruins started to get more offense. Hopefully we could out stronger in the third and get one of the PP.
April 17, 2008 pm30 8:55 pm
#1 offense? #1 powerplay?
Where the hell is it? Is it possible that the Habs have become Vancouver? Is Price aware that they expect him to win games 1-0 or 2-1 from here on out?
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:11 pm
It’s going to game 7, and I’m not sure if the habs will win the series?
THEY DON’T HAVE THE KILLER INSTINCT! and totally flat tonight. Unbelievable how they saved their worst effort for the most important game.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:12 pm
Well, I never thought I’d say this, but a 2-goal deficit is way too much for this Montreal team to overcome. They just bought themselves a ticket back to Boston.
Quick, someone order some North American heart, determination and grit for this team. STAT!
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:18 pm
im a habs fan but carbonneau doesnt no how to coach the habs and all there succes was before brisebois came
CARBONNEAU SUCKS
BRISEBOIS SUCKS
HABS RULE
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:20 pm
Brutal. Embarrassing.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:29 pm
KOIVU must play on Saturday. He’s their only player with heart.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:32 pm
If habs lose this series, it will be a very very long summer!
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:33 pm
I think the boys better grow their hair back real fast, looks like it zapped all their strength.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:36 pm
What the hell was that 3rd period all about?
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:38 pm
That was the worst playoff effort I’ve seen from the Montreal Canadiens. Foot on the throat, at home, and they come out like that. Something’s going on in the locker room that we’re not aware of. Boston has punched above their weight, and Montreal below its weight, since Game 2. This isn’t good. Let’s hope someone other than just Lapierre shows up to play playoff hockey in Boston.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:39 pm
Well that I expected it but I think after the first period this yound team came out like they already had the game won. They quite skating and checking and a coupld of bad penalties and we are in trouble. Price mad one very rookie like mistake and the next thing we know the game is out of reach. Oh one other thing the most important game is the last one.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:40 pm
Tonight we didnt have any skating, hitting, passing, shooting, goaltending.
Did I miss anything?
Good old fashioned a@@ kicking.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:42 pm
Well Carbo, its time to make some changes for Boston! Ryder ,Dandy and Smoke should sit with Stewart,Chipcura and D’agostini,Trotter inserted to put the legs back into this team.I’s time to sturr the pot!!!!
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:49 pm
OMG!!!!!!!!!!
What was that third periode all abou, actually throught out the whole game Montreal’s efforts weren’t very good.
I must say there were a lot of really bad penalties for Montreal and a lot of power plays that Montreal didn’t use to their advantage.
Carey still a good goalie, the 1st goal was acceptable, the 2nd goal was hit off a CANADIENS STICK and the third goal was one really bad mistake from Carey Price
After the third goal Montreal lost it’s willpower to fight. If your gonna lose, lose with dignity.
I’m sure this was just one of thoses bad games Montreal has every now and then, they’ll come back don’t worry and take the series.
Hopefully Koivu comes back soon, we need some spirit back in the team.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:50 pm
Trying to dig some positives out here, all I can say is that perhaps the game 3 wasn’t the kick in the *** that it should have been.
Hopefully this game will have been. We need to put this one behind us, and try to finish it off in Boston. I’m worried about the next game *but* I have to hope that this is the game that gets us playing again.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:50 pm
No reason to panic, we just have to go back to Boston and play a better game.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:51 pm
So, the Penguins will get Boston and the Rangers will get… just kidding.
Seriously though, I never thought I’d see the day when Price got rattled. I just did. And the worst part? He did it to himself when he turned the puck over to Boston to give them an easy lead. How will he respond to this… ?
Price’s rookie mistake aside, this team has not shown what it takes to be a champion. The lowly Bruins (and they are lowly - don’t BS yourself) just handed them their asses in their own building.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:52 pm
THE PRICE IS WRONG *****!
Your team has NO HEART! None what so ever.
They will not even close out a series for you at home! Comon man! get over yourselves and your stinkin team!
Stop making excuses for your sorry a@@ team! THE HABS HAVE NO HEART! AT ALL!
Once your beloved HABS get punched in the mouth they can’t strike back! Regardless, for a team on paper should be killing this POOR A@@ BRUINS TEAM. Except your HABS! are getting out worked and out played in the last 5 games! NO HEART! Your team is not built for a 7 game series!
GO BRUINS! Thank to Boston Bruins for proving that you can’t win championships without HEART! You have HEART! and BIG BALLS! Obviously the HABS don’t and their FANS DON’T EITHER!
Leaving the game with 5 minutes left! WOW. No wonder your team lays down when someone punches them in the face with HEART and HARD WORK!
5-1 LOVE IT!! Better think twice before crowning PRICE as then next ROY! Showed tonight that he is just another guy! ROY and DRYDEN would have closed out the series!
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:54 pm
One thing is for sure…
If they put in the kind of effort that they did tonight in future games, then history will be made - they’ll lose this series. Since Montreal has never lost a series in which it lead 3-1, and Boston has never won a series in which it trailed 2-0, that would be historical.
April 17, 2008 pm30 9:55 pm
What a nightmare.
I am speechless…………..
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:03 pm
I don’t like the makeup of this team. too many euros, too many Marian Hossa’s!
no hear or grit! I think this team is over confident, and unable to elevate their game to a playoff style. Koivu has to play in game 7. And mark my words: THERE WILL BE A GAME 7! remember 2004? Boston could do to us, what we did to them. Tonight I’m embarrassed to be a habs fan.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:09 pm
The Habs will still win this series, for the mere reason that Boston isn’t good enough to capitalize on any kind of momentum, but it’s the near future that concerns me. Try and imagine tonight’s effort versus the Flyers, or the Penguins (if they got that far).
They’d better change something soon… unless of course this year is just being treated as some playoff experience for the young europeans for next year when they acquire some determination to go along with the skill. Right.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:14 pm
Give this team an Iginla, or a Phaneuf, or a Smythe, or a LeCavalier. Please. No? Then how about a Roberts, or a Malone, or a Laraque, or any other of a variety of Canadian or even North American ingredients REQUIRED to win in this league at this time of year.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:17 pm
Joseph,
How can you be so sure that your HABS will win this series. Hey that is the same attitide that your HABS are taking, that the Bruins can’t capitalize..You have to be kidding me. AGAIN I WILL SAY IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN! Your TEAM HAS NO HEART AND BALLS! They don’t like to get hit.
This series to me is over you have witnessed tonight the meltdown of your future! Carey Price is nothing but a goalie that was riding a hot streak! His takes away the bottom well but the top corners are there for the taking! It’s over your TEAM THE HABS are done. Bring on SAKU! Maybe a French Canadian might play game six, yeah one that almost was paralyzed! You got it PATRICE BERGERON!
This is so sweet…
GO BRUINS!
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:23 pm
habs are just a bunch of lazy euros! until we get north american players, forget it. And I can prove my point. In this series, which line has been the best? our 4th line! Smolinski-cdn, Begin-cdn, Kostopoulos-cdn. get it?
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:25 pm
Dude,we have got the DOGS just iching to step in and make a career for themselves.Look-it,the way the HaBS HAVE PLAYED THE LAST FOUR GAMES ,they should allready be golfing and nobody is steping up,NO ONE.kOVY CAN’T DO IT ALL AND Price is a Goalie not a foward,TIME FOR NEW BLOOD,BULLDOG STYLE ,Gurrrrrrrr.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:25 pm
the truth is, Price lost us the game. way too cocky! maybe he’s just too young, to be playing in the playoffs. Since the 1st game, habs haven’t played well, and I can’t believe they won 3 games because they certainly don’t deserve to win this series!
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:39 pm
@ rhabs4real
Your racism is a little misplaced, not to mention that Saku Koivu, whom you praise above, is also European. You sound like Don Cherry.
Terrible loss, that’s for sure. Everyone looked ugly tonight, Price included. Let’s hope this will spur the boys onto a big win in Boston on Saturday.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:41 pm
Ok…I’ll admit I’m wrong (and maybe not that intelligent)…Habs in 6???
Going to 6 Games againts the potential Stanley Cup Champions??? Are you kidding me.
With a beer league, good for nothing, done nothing goalie named Thomas?
Phil Collins say it ain’t so:
“Well I remember, I remember dont worry
How could I ever forget, its the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you dont fool me
The hurt doesnt show; but the pain still grows
Its no stranger to you or me”
I’ll say it again (and so have most of you) without guts there ain’t no glory. Speed and Skill will always kill, but grit wins the Cup.
So, tell me Habs fans…can your team win the next round(s) versus the Rangers, Flyers and/or Pens???
Tony from NB
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:42 pm
Well hopefully Streit is okay to play next game, we missed him bring the puck up tonight. I thought the way they came out in the first period Boston would be going home for the season. Then after we got the goal lead, we started to play differently. we stopped skating, and checking, and it allowed boston to play their game. I also got the feeling that the refs made some stupid calls in this game. The high stick on Kovalev seemed stupid, he was checked into the boards and his stick was in the area but it didn’t look like it hit anyone. I would not worry about Price we he made one mistake and then got a couple of bad luck bounces. I predict it is over in six, we win in Boston. We have not lost two straight games in along time. And I disagree we played a good solid road game in game four,Boston hardly had a scoring change the entire third period until right at the end. You guys would have gone bonkers if you watched the habs of 1971. we got outshot by 20 shots a game and we won the series. Some hockey experts said it was the best defensive team that they ever saw. We were obviously out gunned by the Bruins but we scored when we got the chance. So have faith guys.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:53 pm
rhabs4real, Smolinski is from Toledo, Ohio. Just FYI.
But I agree with the basic point that you’re trying to make. European skill is great, just as long as it’s complementing a healthy dose of North American grit. If that skill is allowed to dominate the personality of a team, however, well, look no further than Ottawa’s previous records in the playoffs, before they added the ingredients to go to the Finals last year, when they were dominated by the bigger, stronger and more determined Ducks in the Finals anyway. Oh, and Anaheim’s roster last season? 18 Canadians on it.
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:55 pm
LOL ,Ice Man speachless,lmao,buds thats a first…..
April 17, 2008 pm30 10:59 pm
You’re right, Senet 1. We should just sit back and enjoy this round of the playoffs, without looking ahead to the Habs’ imminent doom in the next round.

“Joseph,
“How can you be so sure that your HABS will win this series.”
Because I’ve watched your team play, and they’re not very good. Sorry to burst your temporary bubble, dude, but the Habs will soon enough anyway, so… you’re welcome?
“AGAIN I WILL SAY IT TIME AND TIME AGAIN! Your TEAM HAS NO HEART AND BALLS! They don’t like to get hit.”
You, myself, and everyone else in here. Anything insightful to contribute?

You lost any possibility of credibility here. What an unsubstantiated bunch of nonsense.

What is, ignorance?

Why do idiots like you always come out following a win by your mediocre team? If you can’t resist seeking out a blog site for the opposing team’s fans, then at least try adding something intelligent to the discussion. I mean, seriously. What’s that line from H2G2 again? “If human beings stop talking (or in this case, typing), their brains start working.” Yep, that’s the one.
Sadly, the world is full of people like yourself, which is why the human condition is such an unfortunate one. Are you near a tall building by chance?

Tony from North Boston, you have a great nite tonite man, your team played a good game again and deserved the win.

Tony:
I was a bit hard on you at the start. My apologies. My troll defenses are on auto this time of year. (Given a couple of new guests, I’m sure that you can imagine why.)
I appreciate your objectivity, so here’s some of mine: Montreal does not have what it takes to complete for the Cup this season. I apologize for slamming your team a bit, but I think that the Habs will beat them in the next two games to win this series. Even if it means Price bouncing back to steal another game. However, either Philly or Pittsburgh would destroy this Habs team if this is all that they have to bring to the table. As would New York.
April 17, 2008 pm30 11:33 pm
complete = compete

I enjoy this site for “real” hockey opinion. Unlike the garbage on some of the “beantown” sites.
FYI: If your into football/baseball blogs, try “bleacherreport.com”, it’s an open source sports network, anybody can publish articles. Not enough hockey material…maybe you can get that moving?

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll definitely check that out.

OK Les Boyz: Habz got caught up in the media hype - they thought they were great tonight for just showing up. Now they know better. Expect an awesome game Saturday night. Bring on Round 2. Rest easy, my friends, rest easy.
April 18, 2008 pm30 6:19 am
yah guys don’t worry, the habs will win the next game, and maybe Koiivu will be there by then.
April 18, 2008 pm30 6:35 am
Price finally had a bad game. I think that Montreal has to start scoring goals big time. But Price will be amazing next game and it will all end on saturday.
April 18, 2008 pm30 9:05 am
Price is only Human! Price did his fair share to keep Montreal’s sorry Freakin Asses in this series. IF the Habs wanted this series and wanted to play a full 60 minutes (which they have seldom done all year) this series would have been over at 4 games and Price would not have been embarrassed. Brodeur gave up some pretty awful goals in the playoffs this year as well and he is a great Goalie. Every great Goalie will have a meltdown every now and then. I’ve seen Roy & Dryden get blown out in the playoff before.
Will Montreal learn from this? NO! They won’t. Montreal should have learned from the 2nd game that they have to score more than 1-2 goals a game to win a playoff series.
Koivu can and may play the next game, but what good will ne be? He will not be at 100%. If he is not 100%, then leave him out.
I guess that Ryder will be the whipping Boy again for this loss. Just wait til Ryder plays with Boston next year. I hope for every goal he scores on the Habs(and there will be many) he goes over to carbo and gives him every puck.
Well, Boston has won this series BUT Montreal just don’t know it yet!
April 18, 2008 pm30 9:50 am
Why do Habs Fans Have to Bash Price after one bad game? The Dominator for Detroit got pulled the last game. Brodeur is not playing well as he should. Come on **** happens to the best of Goalies.
One Bad game and many are calling for Halak. Not on this blog, but other blogs.
Price has carried this team since he was made the #1 Goalie. Now Fans are ready to throw him under the Bus.
Montreal dose not deserve a great Goalie.
Habs fans have class? Well, A lot do not.
April 18, 2008 pm30 10:33 am
I am not superstitious. 2004 first round playoff, Habs won Bruins from 3-1 deficit by game 7: The head coach then was Claude Julien.
Habs and nation should raise the alert level.
Now it’s the competition between Carbo and Julien. If Carbo didn’t put his two leaders (Saku, the offense leader; Bouillon, the defense leader) onto the lineups, he would be now or never. I am not over pessimistic, but that’s the war!!!
Now it’s the time: Coaching strategy MATTERS; Leadership MATTERS!
April 18, 2008 pm30 10:56 am
Continuing my #60, if Carbo wanted to keep Saku and Francis as secret weapons for Game 7, he would be the candidate for most stupid coach 2007-2008.
April 18, 2008 pm30 11:20 am
habs4life
What did I say that was wrong.
April 18, 2008 pm30 11:27 am
Players have bad games, and Price is young. It doesn’t bother me at all from a worrying about winning perspective to see Price boot a game. What bothers me is the following:
Please rate the playoff performance of the following players since Game 1: Plekanec, S. Kostitsyn, A. Kostitsyn, Markov, Higgins, Ryder. [Now I consider Ryder to be lazy and useless, but he had a chance to redeem himself in the playoffs and he's been absolutely pathetic.]
And then rate the performance of the following players since Game 1:
Kostopolous, Dandenault, Brisebois, Begin, Smolinski, Hamrlik, Lapierre and Latendresse.
With the exception of Hamrlik, the bulk of the “talent” on this team is in the first group of players. So, our big-guns are not showing up for the playoffs. And this team has been carried since game 1 by third and fourth line players. That works against Boston because they are a low skill team with lots of heart, but it won’t work against any other team.
I’d say that Kovalev, Komisarek, Gorges, and a few others are playing at about their regular season intensity.
Kovalev is somewhat of an exception, skill-wise. But one has to wonder the kind of an effect it has on the team when the guy wearing the C doesn’t listen to the coach, takes very long shifts, and takes two retaliatory penalties in the series (he didn’t get caught last night).
Let’s hope they bounce back in Game 6.
April 18, 2008 pm30 11:37 am
Guys, Carbonneau isn’t playing mind games with this team or the Bruins. He felt that the Habs could get the job done in the absence of Koivu and Bouillon, and thus he gave them both more time to get healthy (rather than rush them back too soon and risk a more serious injury). These were his words, and they make sense.
As to last night’s failure to close the series, it was both unfortunate and concerning. The Bruins looked defeated in the first period. Their play was sloppy and they were more or less there for the taking. The Habs should have rolled over them and established a bigger lead than 1-0. But their offensive struggles continued and they failed to bury a near dead team. And in the second period, when the Habs looked as if they were actually trying to protect a 1-0 lead for two full periods (insane), they allowed Boston back into the game. The Bruins gained confidence and converted a powerplay opportunity, and with a Price mishap to start the third, the flood gates were open (a rare occurrence for the Bruins this season). Everyone knows the rest.
The Habs showed no killer instinct at all last night, and that’s a major concern in these playoffs. If they do get by Boston, and I believe that they will, they are going to face a much more determined team in Philadelphia, and one that has no problem scoring goals. But then, the Flyers have no problem giving up goals either, so who knows. However…
First thing’s first. Price and the Habs need to delete Game 5 from memory and play a perfect road game in Boston on Saturday. They also need to play with some conviction and capitalize on their opportunities. If they do this, this series will most certainly end in 6. If they fail to do this, however, then Montreal will lose this series much more than Boston will actually win it.
Forget 1st in the East, forget the #1 offense and powerplay, forget the regular season altogether. It’s time to see what this team is truly made of.
April 18, 2008 pm30 11:51 am
groundworking:
“Now I consider Ryder to be lazy and useless, but he had a chance to redeem himself in the playoffs and he’s been absolutely pathetic”.
Your comment is just plain absurd. Do you even read you comments before you post them?
When Kovy went through his slump last year. Did he only get 6-8 mins. a game? No! He got he got his regular shifts and mins.
How in the hell do you expect a slumping player like Ryder to gain confidence by taking him off of the PP and giving him 6-8 mins a game. There are few players that are doing quat on the PP since the playoffs has started.
Carbo is an IDIOT plain a simple as that.
A nice way to treat a one of the top Goal Scorers for the past three to four years. It shows no class for Carbo. No class at all.
April 18, 2008 pm30 11:54 am
I couldn’t agree more, Joseph.
If we kept skating like this, we would’t be ready to compete with Flyers. The Flyers has been playing super good, especially the booed D Briere.
There are a lot of problems, such as Plekanec, Ryder, Latendresse not playing well, defense positioning and markup not good. etc… These are details. But as a whole team, they lack of “Leadership” and “Spirit”. That’s the reason SAKU and FRANCIS should be coming back to the lineups ASAP.
April 18, 2008 pm30 12:00 pm
Excellent post Joseph. My thoughts in a nutshell.
April 18, 2008 pm30 12:02 pm
I hate to say this, but in a way i agree with the Boston Fans on the fact that Montreal right now has no heart. The last 2 games have been not good at all, Price is the only reason they won game 4 and well we all know what happened last night.
But, we are a much better road team anyway, we still just have to win 1 game, our pp has to get going, and off has to increase dramatically and we have to start moving our legs and not think that we can just roll over the Bruins easily.
As for the physical play, we can stand up to the Bruins, without a doubt. Komi is a maniac when he gets going, and come on, Hamerlik is the best hitter for both teams combined. As for Boston, Chara is the only real physical presence they have and he is nothing but a lanky piece of dog $hit, he is worth less than my newborns foreskin.

Hopefully last nights embarrassment serves as a big wake up call for these guys.
I have counted 3 quality scoring chances in the last 2 games. Are the Bruins that good? Not in my opinion.
If the Habs cant or dont put in a solid effort for game 6 they deserve to be hitting the golf course with the leafs and senators.
Playoff hockey is all about making adjustments and in that regard coach Julien is putting on a clinic for Carbo.
Win or lose though I was born on this bandwagon and I will die on this bandwagon!
GO HABS GO

# 52 Tony from NB
Posted on April 17th, 2008 at 11:24 pm. About ‘Habs / Bruins: Game 5′.
Note to all Habs fans who have allowed me to express my “intelligent” opinion on this site over the last week:
“Jrs and BsFan”…are a couple of ignorant douche bags..who make the rest of us look like a-holes….YOU ARE EMBARRASING ME!
Price is an excellent goalie, who pretty much single handily won Games 2 & 4
Tony from North Boston
Tony from North of Boston, Wow, please do me a favor and pack your bags and head up 93 North, to 89 North until you hit the border! Stay in Canada. You are not a Bruins fan.
How do I look like an *******, when the Boston Bruins are basically willing their way through this series with a journeyman goaltender, and no scorers. Ok i will not say HEART and BALLS, because for this site it is too elementary.
This series should have been over in Game 3, although the Bruins have decided to make this into a series. The reason why, here is educated answer. They are working the corners, playing sound defense and they are playing unreal on the penalty killing. This series is dead even, although the Bruins are doing more with less and Julien is creating a forechecking and backchecking system that allows them to cut of half the ice and causes the Canadiens to dump in when they would rather carry the puck in. The Bruins and Julien play this system is because other than the Begin and Kostopolous line, the HABS do not like to dig for pucks and do the dirty work in the corners to get them to the place they need to be.
Carey Price, be careful HABS fans not to put to much pressure on this kid, Tony from NB, how can you saw a 20 year old is excellent, because of half a season and 4 games in a playoff series? He has the skills to be a great one, and I would LOVE TO HAVE HIM on the BRUINS! Although he is not proven at this level, has he played great yes. Although here is his weaknesses: MY EDUCATED ANALYSIS, he is a traditional butterfly goalie, he is extremely vulnerable on the blocker side upstairs as well as giving up huge rebounds of the pads. He plays with calm and poise, although his side to side movements from post to post is not that great! Now is Thomas better? HECK NO! he is crazy and gives me a heart attack! They are both playing well, yes, but please don’t tell me that this 20 year old kid is the next ROY or DRYDEN! They are hall of famer’s and you are really putting pressure on this kid. I remember you had another great goalie in the system JOSE THEODORE, he basically robbed us of the playoffs in 04, what happened then?
Tony from NB are you a Bruins fan or a bandwagon fan! You probably became a Giants fan when the Pats lost in the Superbowl. Which the Giants deserved to WIN! We digress!
HABS and BRUINS Saturday night…SERIES 3-2…Can you ask for anything more. I want to see a hungry HABS team and a hungry Bruins team! No more blowouts!
GO BRUINS!

Put Stewart in;
Put Bouillon in;
Put Saku in;
Put Streit in.
Bye, Brisebois, even though you are Carbo’s buddy and had a goal.
Bye, Latendresse, improve your barber skill.
Bye, Ryder, you will be traded this summer.

To compare Ryder with Kovalev is absolutely beyond absurd. Kovalev’s worst year was 47 pts, -19, Ryder’s great year last year is 58 pts, -25. Their skill levels are nowhere near comparable. In other words, Kovalev in a huge slump and in a crappy year contributed almost as much in the pts column as Ryder in another “great year” (and I agree, he was good before this year). So Ryder is no Kovalev.
The problem with Ryder is that he quit. Not carbo. Ryder had plenty of chances to work his way back into the lineup. At the start of the year, he was slumping and working hard. Then he quit. He doesn’t backcheck, forecheck, hit, dig, set-up plays or score goals. So he’s probably the worst defensive liability on the team, the weakest back-checker, and he doesn’t score. That’s my definition (and Carbo’s definition, presumably) of a brutal season.
So yeah, Ryder sucks. And Kovalev at his worst is better than 70% of the players in the NHL.
groundworking:
“Now I consider Ryder to be lazy and useless, but he had a chance to redeem himself in the playoffs and he’s been absolutely pathetic”.
Your comment is just plain absurd. Do you even read you comments before you post them?
When Kovy went through his slump last year. Did he only get 6-8 mins. a game? No! He got he got his regular shifts and mins.

Who will be the “New Whipping Boy” next Season? I thought that Montreal had Class. Not Any more. Carbo will do the same to Price as he did to Ryder. Gainey better watch out next Season.
“BOSTON HAS WON THE SERIES. MONTREAL JUST DON’T REALIZE IT YET”
April 18, 2008 pm30 1:24 pm
Don’t get me wrong, Ryder CAN comeback with another team next year and regain his form. I hope he does. I should say he was brutal this year. He lost confidence and quit. Not Carbo’s fault. I mean, having watched an entire season, Ryder was the first this year to quit on the puck (give up on the back-check, change after 30 seconds on an odd-man rush, etc. etc.) Ryder is not a whipping boy, like Kovalev, because he isn’t, and never was, as central to the team. But the only injustice the Habs did to Ryder this year was not trading him.

The only reason I am still watching this Team is because of PRICE.
Except for last night, Price can do No better than he has. He has keep the Habs in long enough to destroy the Bruins. It is the players that need to step up. Not Price. Plekanec is not the only one “Playing like a little Girl”.

we are doomed i say

In Price I trust!
Celebrate Price’s victory; Tolerate Price’s loss… Keep going in playoff, just go deeper where you can go.
Go Price!

If Habs lost Game 6, I would raise the topic of replacing Guy Carboneau by Kirk Muller in the Habsnation world.
(Sorry, I am still trying to recover from last night’s)
April 18, 2008 pm30 2:44 pm
Koivu may return for Saturday!
Lets keep our fingers crossed.
Even if he only plays on the power play that should give the team a lift.
As much as I admire Kovalev I dont think he is cut out to be wearing the C.
