Habs / Flyers: Game 2
-
Sloppy play, unlucky bounces & fluky goals all characterized game one of this series.
The Habs managed a late comeback victory regardless of all that.
What will happen if the Habs or the Flyers execute their game plan effectively?

- goalie : I am more than a little concerned that the Lafs exposed Halak's inability to stop a player who dekes to Halak's glove hand side. He played those dekes very poorly.
- rocky : The leafs played a strong game and have some pretty deadly shootout threats. We did not lose anyone to injury and that game could have went either way. Now how is that for a positive spin on things eh?
- rocky : I hate to admit this, but I think Andrei Kostitsyn is poised to break his slump. He still skates like a turd, but I just have a feeling. If we get out of this game with no major injuries to key players I will be happy win or lose.
- Senet1 : Mst's I think if they can sign Markov to an extension then they can make move on some of the other defenceman before they become UFA. Hammer is a prime example and likewise so is Gil. Somehow I feel that there is something wrong with a one year contract like Mara's where he can be paid for not playing due to injury and then the team pays his bills and he can leave and go UFA without making up the salary. To me a contract should force a player to play a minimum of 50 games or healthy scatches
- Senet1 : Jagr is a strange player, lots of talent but he has lost his heart and all it is about is money. Edmonton would be better off using the money elsewhere.
- goalie : Rumor has it that the Oilers will be signing Jaromir Jagr to a very $$$$ 3 year contract. Makes sense because Jagr doesn't really want to play on a team that is a contender....so Oilers are a good possibility.
- goalie : I agree with Senet. Plex has been our best player this year. He hasn't been hurt for any long periods and he has done the job. He deserves to be our highest paid player. I sure hope that Markov rebounds next year. I find the Russian players very hard to read as to how they like it on a team and what their plans are going to be.
- Senet1 : To me it is hard not to pay Plex at least Cammy's money. He won't score as many goals but game in and game out Plex has been there and really, he has stayed healthy????
- Mats Naslund : Kesler $5m for 6 years.. 1 point seperates him and Plex in the standings.. Pretty good benchmark?
- Mats Naslund : I guess La presse is reporting that PG is talking extension with Markov's people.
- Mats Naslund : Boston and NY did us a huge solid last night by blowing it. 1 point out of 5th with 11 games to go.
- Mats Naslund : Might be a little sneaky, but what if we made Markov the captain - he would have a hard time leaving as a UFA. Hammrlik's $$ is Markov's in a year. We'll have the $$ to sign him and another UFA. I think I also like BUF in the first round although Miller scares the bajezus out of me. NJ after that.
- Senet1 : may lose him to UFA?? We make up the cap space with Laraque's salary, and the trade of one of are large defenceman salaries.
- Senet1 : There are four contracts that are a must for our GM needs to get done. Plek we need to give him a raise say $5.5M Our two goalies each in the neighbourhood $3M but perhaps the more important contract is Markov's he is not a UFA this year but if we agreed to renegoitate his contract a year earlier for say a raise to $6M next year and $7M for two more years then we may be able to get hims signed for at least 3 or 4 more years. If we let his contract expire and he become a UFA in 2011 then we may
- Senet1 : In fact I knew that I had to play washington, I would rather take them out in the first round.
- Senet1 : Well the one thing that does not matter is our record against any of these teams during the season. This is a much different team than the one we saw play during the majority of the season. Secondly, if I was going to pick a team to play it would be one with weaker goaltending. Right now if I had to pick it would either be Pittsburg or NJ although Washington can be had if Theodore does not play above his head. I believe that any team that can score 4 goals a game has a chance to beat Washing
- goalie : NJ would be my second choice followed by Pens OR Caps - don't think it much matters. No easy pickings Habs!
- goalie : Well the good news is that we're playing much better now than at times during the year. The Habs MUST play their bestagainst ANY of these teams to have a chance. We lost three staraight to the Pens, the Caps scare me because they have talent, NJ have improved greatly but we have played well vs them. I think we only beat Buf once but all but one game was very close. I guess I'd take my chances vs ther Sabres as I think our style matches up well against them.If we could beat Miller we could win.
- Mats Naslund : Unless we see a miracle, MON will be a 5-8 seed. So who between WAS, PIT, BUF, or NJ do you want in the 1st round?
- Mats Naslund : Metro is 35. I cant see them giving more than 1yr. He definitely deserves a spot next year though.
- Avatar37 : Senet - I agree, Metropolit is impressive and Metro and Moen always seem to come up clutch. I really hope they sign him to a 3-4 year deal.
- goalie : Isn't it a lot more interesting and fun when our team is playing well and on a run!
- Senet1 : So we have a good third line the fourth line is playing responsible hockey and the first line is generating offense as well as controling the play. Plek is playing hard and still managing to get a goal here and there so if Cammy can get back maybe we have four solid lines. Right now Martin is rolling the four lines well and I think we are tiring out the other teams.
- Senet1 : I also am impressed with our fourth line Metro, Lapierre and Darche. They are playing some productive minutes killing time and tieing up the other team in their zone.
- Senet1 : This line sort of reminds me of the Gainey line, they always scored the big goals in tight games. Believe it or not when the game was tied 1-1 I thought is is about time our third line got a goal and a few minutes later they did. It is become a regular thing this line.
- rocky : Moore brings great puck possession in the offensive zone and Segie can finish plays. Nice to watch, they are smoking third lines on other teams right now.
- Senet1 : I agree his brother is working out really well with Moore and Moan. They have offensive abilities and at the same time are very responsible defensively.
- rocky : He has talent you know, but just no intensity or desire for hockey at this stage. He should watch his brother right now and do his best to emulate him.
- rocky : That would s*ck. They should sit his ass.
- Senet1 : Yea I agree, because if not either Pyatt or Darche will be sent back down maybe both?
- goalie : I must say I'm impressed with ther attitude , effort and quality of play the Habs are exhibiting. I didn't think they'd pull it off this year. A playoff spot is certainly there for the taking. WAY TO GO BOYS and KEEP IT UP. Thius is a whole lot better team for the fans to be cheering on also!!!
- rocky : He has no DESIRE out there and that is such a killer when every other guy out there is really playing hard as hell.
- rocky : In my mind we would lose nothing whatsoever by sitting him and giving a rookie a shot. Especially when Cammalari returns.
- Senet1 : yea really, just when his brother starts to play well he disappears completely. Is he playing injured, if so he should sit out and get well.
- rocky : Oh my god, if you are looking for negatives right now that is the place to start. He is not even trying to skate. Did you even notice him other than his badly timed penalties?

If the Habs play their game, the Flyers will wish they loss to the Caps.
The Flyer wouldn’t stand a Snow Balls chance in Hell……….
April 26, 2008 pm30 1:15 pm
I dont know, if the Habs can barely beat the Bruins a team that has no offense, I would have to say the Flyers should be favored to win this, they can skate with the habs and they have more offense than the Bruins.
Maybe it will come down to Price, here is time to shine.
April 26, 2008 pm30 1:21 pm
Choosing to hang around with the ‘Biggest Loser fan base in pro sports’, marblehead?
If the Habs show up as they did in Games 1 and 7 of their series with Boston, they’ll win. It’s that simple. Biron cannot stop their offense when it’s firing on all cylinders (few goaltenders can), and Price will give them a grand chance to take a 2-0 lead to Philadelphia.
A no-show by the Habs, however, and this series can easily be tied up tonight.
April 26, 2008 pm30 1:46 pm
Ribit! Ribit. Joseph I agree.
April 26, 2008 pm30 1:59 pm
If the Flyers fluke a win tonite,it will make the Habs even stronger with proven power waiting on the side lines to jump in on a seconds notice,Philly, you are cream cheeze.Sha na na na hey hey hey say bye bye……..
“If my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle…”lol
April 26, 2008 pm30 3:45 pm
no lineup changes for tonight’s game, so that means Breezer(old and soft) is in. How will O’byrne ever gain experience if he doesn’t play?
I guess Carbo doesn’t mind Breezer scoring for the opposition.
April 26, 2008 pm30 3:58 pm
If it were up time, and it’s not, I would have put O’Byrne in. The Habs could use another wrecking ball in their own end, in my opinion.
I’m OK with Brisebois scoring for the opposition from time to time, just as long as he continues scoring clutch goals for the Habs.
April 26, 2008 pm30 3:59 pm
If it were up to me…
April 26, 2008 pm30 4:29 pm
Breezer scored 1 goal in 8 games. I don’t understand Carbo’s logic. Doesn’t he want a young, big and strong Dman against a physical team? guess he prefers a player with experience at not hitting, and turning over the puck.
April 26, 2008 pm30 4:42 pm
Lidstrom may very well become the first European-born captain to lead his team to a Stanley Cup championship. Mind you, after 17 years in Detroit, playing with a leader like Yzerman, he knows what it takes. Further, he has the luxury of being surrounded by the coaching, players and teamwork required to accomplish the task. This is not to take anything away from Lidstrom though – he’s a phenomenal player, and if he accomplishes this task, he’ll certainly deserve it.
An itty, bitty blurb about it.
Let’s hope that Koivu and the Habs have something to say about that though. They can start making their case by showing up with a strong 60-minute effort tonight.
April 26, 2008 pm30 4:46 pm
I thought that he had two, but I was wrong (1G, 4A). Still he has been a catalyst for the Habs’ offense at key times in these playoffs.
Regardless, I agree with you.
April 26, 2008 pm30 5:33 pm
As far as trolls go tonite,I
April 26, 2008 pm30 5:38 pm
I hope they join in the conversation and make it more fun than obnoxious ,and I do hope other Habs fans chip in when the Philly trolls get stupid.
April 26, 2008 pm30 5:52 pm
I hope so too, because I’m retiring from self-appointed troll duty.
April 26, 2008 pm30 5:56 pm
agreed
April 26, 2008 pm30 6:56 pm
O’Byrne in for Brisebois. It’s official.

April 26, 2008 pm30 7:54 pm
a little concerned guys. What’s going on with Price? He shouldn’t be nervous anymore. But can’t keep allowing Philly to get a 2-0 lead each game. worrysome.
April 26, 2008 pm30 7:57 pm
Geezes Cherry, get that jacket from R
April 26, 2008 pm30 7:58 pm
Cherry said the pucks went in off habs sticks. I wish our guys wouldn’t get their sticks in the way. leave Price alone and let him handle the shots. you’re only hurting him.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:05 pm
My 350lb sister-in-law is singing up the street.
I hpoe that does not mean what I think it does. God NO!!!!
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:09 pm
She got laid?
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:33 pm
Habs need to regroup they are not playing their style …
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:36 pm
Markov is playing lousy. he’s the culprit for Philly’s 3rd goal. I think habs are snakebit because Philly is getting all the breaks.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:38 pm
He just does not seem to be 100%
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:43 pm
She is still singing.
It’s over Boys And Girls..
Good night.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:47 pm
LOL I love the way you stand by your team your a real true fan ….
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:50 pm
Markov is killing us.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:50 pm
Biron is the difference so far
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:53 pm
I know that they will get better late in the 3rd.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:54 pm
I might have to take back what I said about both Price and Biron. Wow. Those two soft goals to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead were a killer. Meanwhile, Biron is the only thing keeping this a 3-1 game.
When Price is hot, he’s really hot, but when he’s not, he’s not. Not good enough at this time of year, Carey.
That being said, the Habs are clearly a far better club than the Flyers, and Biron won’t be able to save them forever.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:56 pm
After listening to Hartnell, Carbo please install Lats and whom ever to beat up on those ********.DANDY’S IS DOING JACK OUT THERE.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:59 pm
I think Philly looks far superior to us. I mean if you’re down 2-0 to start every game, what do you expect? If we lose. it’s because of a poor performance by Price. Habs don’t seem to cash in on their chances, and Philly does, with a little help from Markov and Price.
April 26, 2008 pm30 8:59 pm
Price needs to get his act together , The Habs are playing very well … Price is not
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:01 pm
sjbjcl, the Habs have been dominating most of this game. They just need to beat Biron a few times in the third. Not so easy the way that he’s playing.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:03 pm
habs need a break, But if Plekanec would have scored on the breakaway, different game. We need to go high on Biron instead of shooting at his pads.
If we lose this game, we must win 1 game in Philly.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:05 pm
I really think Markov is hurt … he is a shadow of the player he was during the year , as Jacques Demers just pointed out
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:05 pm
Up until tonight, the Habs were cashing in on a lot of their chances. Biron is in a zone right now. Tough to beat him tonight.
29-16 are the shots, which suggests that the Habs are taking the play to the Flyers, which they obviously have been. Regardless of the 3-1 lead for the Flyers, I think it would be fair to say that Biron is stealing one for them tonight.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:07 pm
We need to go high on Biron instead of shooting at his pads.
I was thinking exactly this during most of the Habs’ scoring chances. They’ve got skilled players – put it under the bar.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:10 pm
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:10 pm
GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:21 pm
This is the chance right here
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:24 pm
I cant believe how unlucky we are …
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:36 pm
Oh well
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:37 pm
Price realy was not in his game tonight
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:37 pm
PRICE COST US THE GAME, and maybe the series!
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:38 pm
BEGIN,SIT HIM…
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:39 pm
MENT DANDY
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:40 pm
I think Price is too young. Flyers won their 2 games in Philly vs the Caps. not looking good for the habs. If you struggle so much at home, how can you win a series?
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:42 pm
Unless habs get the lead in the next game, it’s over.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:43 pm
Its al tied relax band wagon jumpers , we out played them … Price was not in the game thats the only problem we had, Biron was good tonight … so its all tied thats all , back to square one
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:43 pm
See this for what it is…
The Habs dominated this Flyers team tonight and Price played a piss poor game. That’s OK becasue Price will rebound with a strong performance in Philadelphia and help the Habs to establish a 2-1 series lead.
The Flyers have no answer to the Habs’ speed and they haven’t been able to establish a physical dominance like they had hoped. All the Habs have to do is consistently put in this kind of effort, with Price on his game, and they’ll win this series.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:44 pm
Thats right we out played them with ease .. we need Price to play his kind of game
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:45 pm
Price’s worst game to date…
He WILL be back though.
The theme overall seems to me that the Canadiens have played 1/10th of how they can and are tied 1-1 and in this one until nearly the end….
Frustrating to see but the Flyers haven’t impressed me any way whatsoever other than Biron tonight..
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:45 pm
Price played lousy in the 1st game too. When’s he going to play well? when we’re down 3-1 in the series?
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:46 pm
Come on, bandwagoners… this is why they play the games, and this is why it’s fun to watch. And I feel as confident in this Montreal team as ever.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:46 pm
Frustrating to see but the Flyers haven’t impressed me any way whatsoever other than Biron tonight..
I couldn’t agree more.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:47 pm
outplaying a team means nothing, if you can’t score. It’s only the score that counts!
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:47 pm
Fairweather pessimist “fans” out tonight…same as game 4,5,6 in Round 1 ….
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:47 pm
And if you watched their series against Washington, you’ll know that this is about all that they have to bring.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:47 pm
Never ceases to amaze
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:48 pm
later guys see ya Monday
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:48 pm
outplaying a team means nothing, if you can’t score. It’s only the score that counts!
They’ll score. Don’t you worry.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:49 pm
Have a good night, Don.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:51 pm
rhabs4realit’s only game2,a little early to call it don’t you think? Plus our Habs beat themselves,Price had a off day and Biron was glove hot,and too much passing and not enough shooting.Another thing was cary the puck in instead of allways dumping her in and last but not least, sit Dandy.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:53 pm
I’d have to agree with the notion that the Habs should shoot more often. We all know that they’re skilled–wonderful–but sometimes when you get the puck in the slot, it’s a good idea to just shoot the damned thing.
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:53 pm
Don Carnage Posted on April 25th, 2008 at 12:09 am. About ‘Habs / Flyers: Game 1′.
“That loss is going to hurt Philly … mark my words”
SACRE BLEU! We take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’!!
See you boyz on South Broad Street Lundi…bring that guy Price along, willya?!?
We seem to have a series on our hands…
..
April 26, 2008 pm30 9:56 pm
portly, how many times did your heart jump during tonight’s game?
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:00 pm
We Philly fans know better than to get cocky. We’re a lunch-pail team, as you can see, not slick like the Habs. We like to grind and we did some serious grinding tonight.
Were you guys playing only 3 lines tonight? Are your older stars going to wear down? We had four lines working and we’re a young team…
Lot of hockey left to play. Playoff hockey is AWESOME, no?
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:06 pm
and how come the habs are always asleep to start every game? when are they going to start a game strong????? Even Cherry noticed that. Unfortunately he didn’t watch most of the habs games, or he would know that the habs NEVER start strong!
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:22 pm
Game 1 against the B’s two goals 34 seconds, thought we were on our way, I still think we are and Monday night’s game will show just hoe good the Habs really are…
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:29 pm
We need to win the next game so as not to give the flyers any momentum. If we can steal 1 game in Philly, maybe we’ll win, but it’s going to take 7 games.
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:30 pm
Price has been bad in 4 of the last 5 games. He has been absolutely brutal in 2 of 5 (tonight and Game 5, rd 1), just mediocre in 2 others (gm 1, rd2 and gm 5, rd1) and excellent in one of them (Game 7).Other than that, not impressive.
I wonder if he isn’t getting tired. He’s a great goalie, but he’s had more bad games already in the playoffs than he had all year in the regular season.
And there’s absolutely no question that Markov is injured. My bet is that it’s a knee or an elbow–based on the way’s he’s been timid and having more difficulty than usual corralling bouncing passes (either he can’t pivot as well on his knee or move his arms up and down as quickly, thus either an elbow or a knee imo)
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:31 pm
edit bad in gm6, rd1, brutal in gm5, rd1.
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:40 pm
I totally agree with you groundwrking. Looking at all of Price’s games in the playoffs, he’s not playing well. Against Boston: good in game 1, 2 oK, game 3 ok, game 4 good, game 5 and 6 horrible, game 7 good. so the kid can’t seem to put 2 good games together. More than anything else, those stats worry me! We need him to be good in 6 out of 7 games. I truly believe he’s way too calm, znd too young to understand what it’s all about. give him a couple of years to mature, but not yet.
April 26, 2008 pm30 10:51 pm
we need a lineup change for next game. take out Dandy, and insert Ryder, because the 4th line is invisible. And where is Plekanec in the playoffs? AWOL!
April 26, 2008 pm30 11:33 pm
Ya Ryder going to score goals and get into fights and win them too,I don’t think so,Latendresse is the way to go and Stewart or Chipchura….
April 26, 2008 pm30 11:42 pm
I agree, Latendresse needs to be inserted…. and as rhabs4real asked, where is Plekanec, we need both these guys.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:04 am
The Canadiens again were Priceless, wow that Biron I havent watched the Flyers much being a Bruins fan but he is awsome.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:14 am
Hi All,
I must admit, didn’t see the game, just the highlights
( exhausted from watching 10+ hrs of the NFL Draft).
Noticed that many of the goals on Price where high glove…one of my first blogs here commented on the scoring “skill” issue from other teams againts Price…just my observation for what it;s worth…he does seem to go down too earlier. He covers the mid/low area extremely well, and he’s very relaxed…good thing. Believe “Rollie” may need to work on that b4 game 3.
Take care boys and good luck in game 3……and always remember that the Flyers, the Eagles, the Phillies, the 76er’s, Rocky, Kate Smith, Schultz and all the Broadstreet BullShits….and especially any Philadelphia sports fan are “loathsome losers”.
Tony ( welcome Run DMC to Raider Nation )
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:17 am
Yo marblehead, you know what would be priceless, you playing goal right now without protection trying to stop Souray slap shots!!!GROINnnnn….
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:24 am
ole?
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:27 am
Never mind the disgruntled Bruins fans who can`t seem to stop hanging around, licking their wounds and whining in public, Xtrahabsfan. They`re a waste of time. Tony from NB and BruinsFan are exceptions to this rule, of course.
Nice to see some more objective Flyers fans in here tonight.
portly, playoff hockey is the only hockey.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:28 am
this looks to be a long series habs, or the beginning of the end. 6 games will shadow the truth.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:30 am
Joseph!!! I thought I lost you forever. Ying to Yang and all of that prophecy **** and whatever.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:32 am
has anyone answered my earlier mentioned inquiries concearning yje chants?
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:33 am
This could also be an abbreviated series either way. Either Biron will continue to rise to the occasion and Price will continue to play subpar, or Price will rebound as he did in the first round and start stoning the Flyers.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:35 am
Hello???….I love you northern peoples and what not.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:37 am
Joseph
have you seen my earlier questions about the Montreal chants?
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:39 am
What do they mean? I have noticed quite a few teams with thier own “chant” this year. Including the Flyers…where did this originate?
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:43 am
F@ckinliars,you just figure out your slow and overwhelmed team of wanna be thugs won, enjoy it while it last…to bad its over…
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:46 am
No I haven’t. All I know are the soccer chants becasue my girlfriend is Brasilian, and therefore she tells me what they actually mean. Ole is a chant of approval or encouragement. What’s funny is that the commentators seem to think that the Ole, Ole, Ole chant is premature when it’s sung early in a game because they think that it’s a victory chant. It’s not. It’s a ‘Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go’ or ‘great play, great play, great play’ chant.
I’ve heard Rangers fans chant some interesting things as of late, but I can’t make out what they are.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:47 am
Joseph
I am a fan of Price’s skills, but don’t you think he’s playing a bit out of his head? I feel the same way about Biron, right now he looks unstoppable, but I think any insecurity can bury either netminder in this series. Neither has looked “Conn Smythe” so far.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:48 am
As far as chants go ,the Habs have had many during thier long and glorious history,24 cups etc….deal with it!!!
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:49 am
I’d have to agree with your goaltender analysis, EF. Every tim e I witness a great game by Price, I think ‘This kid is the real deal’, but then he has a game like he did tonight. Flyers fan or not, he let in some very soft goals.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:50 am
Same for Biron. He rose to the challenge tonight. Not so much in Game 1.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:54 am
By the way, EF, we are in agreement with regard to Crosby’s antics. He’s a great talent no doubt. I just wish that he’d grow up and play hockey.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:55 am
I am fascinated with Canadian pop culture right now. It may be an addiction, my next inquiry is about Don Cherry. I can understand thew following of hockey in Canada, I wish it were like that here, but he’s just a commetator right? Or is the some sort of magical force behind that bald head an white goatee?
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:56 am
We need something like that here.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:58 am
Don Cherry’s real name is Christopher Cringle, born in the North Pole, 1773.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:58 am
Did you hear thier coach whining tonite, what a joke ,crashing the net ,board of govenors, bla bla bla…the flyers were built to intimidate other teams and that’s all they can do!!!They are going to have thier asses handed to them by the Habs…oooohhhh yeahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:00 am
Joseph
I totally agree with you. You could have flip/flopped the performances between the the 2 goalies from game 1 to game 2. This may be a longer series than many could have thought.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:01 am
SANTA!!!!!
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:01 am
Santa’s dark side.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:02 am
You guys had a bald guy called ‘Panger’ down there for a while. I believe that he was one of Santa’s elves.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:04 am
Well, the Habs are making a habit of creating longer series than originally thought this playoff year, so why stop with Boston?
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:04 am
Xtrahabsfan
Ignorance is bliss…wake up and smell the series. It’s gonna be long fought son. The flyers played the better of both games besides the crappy calls. This should be a great round.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:06 am
Santa’s dark side? Is he hardspoken or something?
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:10 am
Hardspoken would be an understatement. He’s been highly controversial for years.
Evil Santa
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:11 am
Habs in 6
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:12 am
Sounds good, But Parren Pang is nowhere near one of his elves then. Maybe Mike Millbury?
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:13 am
I’d have to disagree that the Flyers played the better of both games. The Habs dominated most of the game tonight–the Flyers couldn’t handle their speed–but simply failed to get enough pucks past Biron. On the other hand… was Price’s faulty catching glove.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:13 am
Mike is quite the *******.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:14 am
Joseph
The Flyers spent quite some time in the offensive zone tonight.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:17 am
Panger was born in the North Pole as well (under a rock), relocated to the U.S. to fulfill the role of hockey analyst for ESPN (of all things), and was then mailed north of the border (inside of a Christmas card, of all things) to the TSN studios. Very suspicious.
There’s also suspicion that Pierre McGuire may be an ex-elf as well. It’s being looked in to.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:18 am
In the Habs’ offensive zone? I agree… quite a lot.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:21 am
Sorry, to get back on the “chants”, I think it’s kind of cool. Maybe the NHL needs something like that. Not that they need ro draw in fans…maybe something to get the pre-exising fans to get more into the live product. Just a thought.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:21 am
Milbury is blunt, that’s for sure. He called McGuire an ‘entertaining jerk’ on air. Milbury was arguing that Avery is a jerk. McGuire countered that Avery was entertaining. Milbury concluded “So he’s an entertaining jerk, like you.’
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:25 am
I like the originality of chants and songs. Many people complain about the Ole song, for instance, especially Leafs fans (Toronto is conservative and unimaginative), but I think it’s great that Habs fans do something different to deviate from the norm.
In conclusion, all hockey fanbases should establish their own chants/songs.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:29 am
Alright, I’m off to bed. Happy round two to all.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:30 am
Oh, I will be the entertaining jerk, that’s my job (why else would I be posting on your blog…AWESOME!!!!) you will see me after every game. Oh, and more than likely all postseason, being that you have taken a kindness to me. The feeling is mutual. Orange and Black vengeance is fun. Let’s have more fun.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:31 am
Night night.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:38 am
OK – Habs outplayed them – faster, more skill – this is a 7 game series. The better team will prevail in the end and this is the Habs. Forget the refs and cheap bounces. Skill wins the day. Habs will prevail. No question here.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:41 am
Sorry Joseph…I thought you were saying I was the entertainong jerk, that’s what lots of beer during a hockey game could do to you pre-screening of postings on the opposing team’s site. Either way I would love to be the catalyst to your apoxy. Godspeed and goodluck.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:44 am
It’s amazing how little respect is given to the sick goals some skilled Flyers put in net tonight. Umberger started it up high, and Carter slipped one as high as it can get into a space “the size of a puck” (quoting Price). Don’t throw your goalie under the bus, when you should realize only the best of goalies can do something about shots like that.
That being said, Biron made stops that the best of goalies make. He stopped back to back point blank shots at one point.
And Briere made Price look like a fool on his backhand display. You boo him because you wish he was playing for you, and that’s being quite respectful.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:50 am
Pierre McGuire sucks almost as much “Panger”. The “King of Mullets”, Barry Melrose is probably the worst. God I hate him.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:52 am
BUG
April 27, 2008 pm30 2:03 am
Bug?
April 27, 2008 pm30 2:11 am
BUG!
April 27, 2008 pm30 7:28 am
I still don’t think that the flyers will push the habs to the limit. Montreal will win game 3,4 and 5. And what the hell is up with coach stevens? Timonen was taunting us, you would have to be a huge coward not to punch him. I would have done it without any resistance. This series wil be a short 4-1 habs.
But montreal has to start scoring first!
April 27, 2008 pm30 7:34 am
This is how it should be: Latendresse in, Dandenault out.
April 27, 2008 pm30 9:00 am
latendress should stay out!!!!! dandennault should never lace his skates up again this year !!!!!! give a proven and a much better player back in the line up like ryder oh but he isnt french he is a good old newfie boy that works his a$$ off every night to bad he has to be the exsape goat i guess higgins will be this time since he isnt french also.
April 27, 2008 pm30 10:25 am
Stu how could you possibly think you will win both games in Philly? You’ll have a chance at game 4, but game 3 will be ugly. Remember game 3 against Washington? 6-3. Sounds alot closer than it was. We have seven 20 goal scorers. Who else can say that in the league? Oh ****, nobody! Most balanced attack in the game will prevail, and with Biron playing out of his mind in his first playoffs as a 30 year old, you guys are in trouble.
April 27, 2008 pm30 11:50 am
I have a good feeling that Montreal will come out strong. Most those philly goals were fluky , but Price I feel, will rebound. It’s been all montreal and Philly should be really pissed off. But Philedelphia has been getting the breaks. Montreal= best road team in the east so take that!!! I have high hopes for our hopes and the habs will win the series 4-1 or 4-2.
April 27, 2008 pm30 11:54 am
and for rcbhotrod, Ryder is one of my favorites but I just haven’t seen him with grit and that goes the same with Dandy. Dandenault is a veteran but he isn’t showing anything! Ryder might not be a french but I know he loves the habs just as much as Latendresse. I like Ryder better but there is no time to gamble to see if Ryder comes back. But I say keep O’Byrne out and put streit on D with Lat, and Ryder up front. Most the players on both teams are tired and Those two players will be full of fire!!!!!!
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:09 pm
If Price plays better, then habs will win, plain and simple. Take away the 2 soft goals in the 1st period, and habs win. I mean Philly can’t be that lucky in more than 1 game. Luck only takes you so far. hoping habs in 6.
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:22 pm
stu011 great idea i think they would come out flying in game 3
April 27, 2008 pm30 12:51 pm
Yo Blade…these guys also want to make a lot out of how many shots they took. Lots of shots are a good thing generally, but aside from flashing leather a few times, B-Ron was not having to move much in these two games at the Bell Center, was he? The bulk of shots from The Inhabitants were at his pads or mid-section. Shots like that are like raindrops on a brick wall…no problemO.
We have our work cut out for us, no doubt, but this series is ours to lose, the Habs have issues in net and with heart that will be interesting to watch…No. 1 and No. 2 regular season PP leaders going head-to-head! Our road record was only slightly less stellar than that of Les Canadiens. Clearly, WE are our own worst adversary, not The Inhabitants. Being so young, we could struggle, but we are also a dangerous playoff team with as lot of “jump” that can expose an opponent’s weaknesses. Should be fun to watch.
Lets get FLYERED UP!!
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:10 pm
Briere is booed because he shot the puck in to the stands at the end of a regular season game to deny Price a souvenir for his first NHL shutout.
You know what’s funny? The number of fans that embrace their favourite team as if they built it themselves. They didn’t.
Hockey, like all successful professional sports, isn’t at all what is used to be. These players don’t speak for the fans, they speak for themselves… and the companies advertised on the entrance to the arena, the boards and the ice.
Anyway, Flyers fans, you can keep Briere. The last thing that this Habs team needs is another small, skilled player.
April 27, 2008 pm30 1:30 pm
portly, the reality of last night’s outcome is that the Habs failed to capitalize on their scoring chances, which speak a lot louder than shots on goal. Forget the shots on goal, the scoring chances were far more lopsided than the shot counts were.
“We’re obviously disappointed with the loss, but we carried that game,” said Montreal goalie Carey Price, who did not have a strong game. “If we could have buried half of our open-net chances we could have won 8-4.”
Missed chances cost Canadiens
As to the Kostopoulos-Timmonen ordeal near the end of the game, Stevens is once again being silly. Timmonen turned arond and taunted him, laughed at him, and then turned away when he saw Kostopolous coming at him.
Don’t turn it in to something that it wasn’t, John.
April 27, 2008 pm30 2:09 pm
A few comments: (Strictly my opinion, I’m entitled to be wrong)
In no particular order
1) I believe The Habs are in a mini slump, we saw them throughout the year,
they were short lived and consistency prevailed, better now than in later
rounds, even in a mini slump Montreal (as I believe showed last night) they
are more skilled than the Flyers and it will show in the end.
2) There is a reason that Biron was never given the full time gig in Buffalo
again in the end I believe it will be apparent why.
3) Hockey is first and foremost entertainment, the unwritten promise from the
the management and staff of our team is to provide this, I for one have been
entertained, along with 21,000 plus (and the thousands left wanting)have
shown, home game after home game. For a mere $1.99 per month I am able to
watch every single Habs game of the season (RDS, Starchoice) name me another
team that allows this without caving to the pressure of PPV.
4) Cherry is the “Madden” of hockey, mixed with a little Howard Stern.
He’s both revered and despised, he’s opinionated but honest and his honesty
is his allure, love him or hate him (and I’ve done both)he speaks his mind
with total disregard for political tact.
5) Pierre McGuire IMO is one of the most unbiassed analysts going, it’s easy
to be an armchair coach, but I think he is the most well versed of the
bunch.
Last} Like it or not, hockey is also a business, every home game played in the
spring is revenue gained towards spending for the future.
The boys are playing in May!!! Be proud, and appreciative, see comment 3
as to why it’s great not to be a Canucks, Hawks, Canes (add teams here)
fan.
April 27, 2008 pm30 2:56 pm
Cheers *******……Lets go Flyers!!!!!!! Your team is not that good, did you all have fun watchin my Flyers out work you tonight. Keep telling yourselves your going to win the series 4-1, it never gonna happen!!!! My boys have way more heart then any of your “Habs”, its also obvious that Price doesn’t like our constant pressure near the goal…..sorry to tell him it will get much better when he come to Philly!!!!!
April 27, 2008 pm30 7:11 pm
The world is off its meds again.
April 27, 2008 pm30 7:23 pm
Sometimes I look forward to getting home and catching up with opinions (both from Habs fans and fans of opposing teams) expressed on this blog, but most of the time finding something worth reading requires sifting through a sea of unintelligible and/or thoughtless garbage.
The internet has provided everyone a voice. It’s a shame that so few actually have something to say.
Thanks to those who have something to say, something worth reading. You guys make this place worth the visit.
April 27, 2008 pm30 7:48 pm
Stop with the boooo , boo, onl makes them play harder and better and you know of whom I am speaking!!!!
And drop the OLE, OLE, drives me crazy when I hear it – IT’S A EUROPEAN SOCCER CHANT!!!!!!!!!THIS IS NORTH AMERICAN HOCKEY. WE ARE NOT EUROPEANS, I cringe when I listen to that chant in our stadium, let’s get something CANADIAN going…who started the stupid OLE anyway???????? Not us good old Canadian folk, grrrrrrrrr and boos make for better playing and also makes us look like suckeeeeee babies, get over it, who cares, we should just be confident in our present time, whatever. I am so frustrated with the fans, low life I guess, for the most part that’s who follows hockey.
April 27, 2008 pm30 9:00 pm
OLE:
You must be from Philadelphia, because your use of language and lack of sense fits the profile. When is the last time a team from Philly won anything? seriously. Sixers??? Flyers??? Eagles???? Phillies??? They won one game so what! Their not going to win the series, even on the slight chance they do, they would get swept in the next round. That’s just the Philly way.
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:12 am
Riberio 2nd in play-off scoring with 11 pts.Has he ever proved people wrong, dam, could of really used him!
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:13 am
I’ve a question for Philadelphians, and this is not meant as an insult, so cool your heels.
Why was a statue of a fictional character allowed to be placed in front of the Spectrum?
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:14 am
Ribeiro is the ‘real deal’.
April 28, 2008 pm30 1:51 am
Post 150:
Flyers outworked the Habs. What game were you watching? Habs Out shot the flers by like 14 shots. They won because they had a couple better shots. And Biron stood on his head. He was good. Well flyyers fans watch out because the Habs are going to come out flying in game 3 and won’t stop till the end. Mark my words.
April 28, 2008 pm30 3:01 am
Flew out to San Francisco Friday and ran into a couple of Shark fans on the plane. Had my Habs cap on. They looked at it, chuckled to each other, to which I responded, “Maybe we’ll meet in the Finals. If we do, we’ll klick your ***”.
I am not a hero. They were just a couple of short, bl;oated guys. Joke may be on me AND them, based on how the Habs looked Saturday and them dropping the opening home games to Dallas.
Here’s the skinny on Price. When he goes into his crouch, there’s plenty of room above each shoulder, and it’s no secret as both the Bruins and now the Flyers have been shooting mostly high up. That’s just part of the problem. Even in the crouch, Carey can snag the puck on high shots, sight unimpeded. However, the Flyers have been cruising in front of him, screening him at will, as our Canadiens are unwilling, unprepared, or just plain intimidated to move them out of the way.
Tony Bennett may come out with a new version of his greatest hit, that begins with,”Habs left their BALLS, in San Francisco!”
Maybe Carbo should go back to the days of old, and keep the team sequestered from wives and girlfriends during the playoffs. The way they’ve been looking lately, skating like their legs weighed a ton each, makes me wonder if it isn’t a case of “Sugar in the morning, Sugar in the evening,Sugar most any time.”
In other words, NOOKY and HOCKEY is definitely not an example of perfect rhyming.
April 28, 2008 pm30 6:27 am
Hi Joseph,
The Rocky Statue is purely an entertainment/cultural depiction of the 20th century.
It has been received with much controversy over the years, moving from the art museum to/from the Spectrum…is it art or is it pop-culture? …well, the “fathers” of Philly agreed it was a “tourist attraction”.
Geez…from the Liberty Bell to Rocky…what a city!
Since we are on this topic…what’s going on with the Forum these days? I believe it’s still up?
Take it for what it’s worth…the Forum was so iconic. There are just a few places left in N.A ….Fenway, Wrigley, Yankee Stadium (idiots are building a new one), Lambeau & Soldier Field, and perhaps Notre Dame Stadium
I always believed that a 2nd major renovation was the route to go. Just look at Soldier, Lambeau, and Fenway today.
I realize it’s about $$$$….but my last memory of that place was ‘96, last game with the torches high…wow.
As for the Boston Garden….it had character, but hey, when the rats find the place a dump it’s time to move on
Tony from NB ( saying… “YO ADRIAN!” )
April 28, 2008 pm30 6:44 am
It sucks because I have hockey tonight and won’t be able to see the 2nd and third periods. But hopefully they score the first goal of the game!
April 28, 2008 pm30 7:36 am
I hope Montreal knocks some f_cking teeth down the throats of those Flyers tonight. Every time the Flyers score a goal they taunt the Habs players. I’m glad that the Habs Mr. Greek gave Jackass a sucker punch.
All that F_cking Stevens does is whine. The first game he said his team got no breaks. What the f_ck! Two goal posts by the Habs and two fluky goals for the Flyers. No breaks. Cry me a F_cking river.
If it were not for luck and the Flyers getting all of the breaks and bounces Montreal would have gotten 8 goals every game so far. We hit 3-4 post Saturday night as well.
And last game Stevens whined about the cheap shot from the Greek on Montreal and that Montreal players had no class. Carbo blasted back about class when the Flyers had the most suspensions of any team this year.
I hope to F_ck that Montreal is pissed off enough to hand the Flyers their Asses for the rest of the series.
I am sorry for some of my comments Saturday night. I should wait till the next day to post after I calm down. I hate to lose, no matter what I play. My passion burns so intensely for the habs, it just takes control of me.
April 28, 2008 pm30 7:42 am
I agree with you duckdoc.
People are saying that Price is tired. I say, NO he is not. Price needs to get into that Zone again.
Please Mr.Price, start kicking some *** from now on….. We need him. With out APrice we will go no where….
April 28, 2008 pm30 7:43 am
My bloody fingers are to big for this laptop……..
April 28, 2008 pm30 8:04 am
The Spectrum is about to be demolished to make way for a huge commercial development in the shadow of the new stadiums now gracing the South Broad Street corridor. They really ARE a sight to see, the Linc (Eagles), Citizens Bank (Phils) and the Wachovia Center (Sixers and Flyers) are really state-of-the art facilities (dontcha hate bank names on sports facilities??) and a credit to their sports-mad town. The Rocky statue actually has spent several years at the Phialdephia Art Museum, which brought many questions like yours, Joseph. It IS a piece of art, but it also embodies the blue-collar work ethic of this city and the determination and pluck expressed by the “up-by-your-bootstraps” guys here that spend a large proportion of their hard earned pay to go root for their beloved teams…no cheap feat.
Look around your city, my friend, and you may find a few statues of “fictional” or mythical figures as well i’m sure…it’s certainly not something unique to Philly.
Oh, and to DuckDoc: there is one more option you failed to mention regarding the Flyers ability to cruise the crease unmolested:…unwilling, unprepared, intimidated…how about just plain UNABLE!?! We have even used the 6′5″ 260 lb Derrien Hatcher in this roll occasionally, and our main man on the crease, despite a partially torn ACL, will be back in the lineup tonight pestering Monsieur La Price…one Mr. Mike Knuble. Mais oui, it would make Rocky proud!!
Lets get it ON!
April 28, 2008 pm30 8:25 am
YA THE SOONER THE HABS BLOW OUT THE fLYERS THE BETTER,GO HABS GO
April 28, 2008 pm30 9:18 am
BLEU………….BLANC…………..ROUGE……….
It’s wakeup time!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
GO, HABS, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 28, 2008 pm30 10:49 am
Reality check for all you Hab Fans, you are just living a dream…Habs scraped by Boston(a team they should have taken in 4 games), and now Habs are playing an average team(Flyers) and are struggling at that…Habs just don’t have what it takes to compete in the playoffs, they are not a playoff team. So to all my little Hab fans out there, don’t sprain an ankle jumping off the Bandwagon again(Typical Hab Fan) and start singing to yourself..”Nah Nah Nah Nah, Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey, GOOD BYE!”
April 28, 2008 pm30 11:27 am
The strongest Habs two lines would be:
AK27 – AK46 – SK74;
SK11 – HC21 – TP14.
April 28, 2008 pm30 11:28 am
rather CH21
April 28, 2008 pm30 11:54 am
Post#169 Jack-off,take your goof pills would ya,and what ever you do don’t bet on the game rainman, lol…GO HABS GO…..
April 28, 2008 pm30 11:55 am
Philly players laughing at Price and others on the Habs after they scored? Wow hate to say it philly fans but you guys just woke up a sleeping giant. Look out here comes Price.
April 28, 2008 pm30 11:57 am
Oh yeah on another note…. I once had a girl tell me to kiss her where it stinks so i took her to philly GO HABS GO GO HABS GO GO HABS GO
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:10 pm
You can take this right to the Bank;
“PRICE WILL NOT HAVE 2 BAD GAMES IN ROW”
Biron will not have a repeat performance of last game. He can thank his post brothers for the win.
Price will make Biron look like a novice tonight.
Bring on the Flyer *******!!!!!
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:22 pm
lineup change: Dandeneault is out, and Latendresse is in for tonight!
official.
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:26 pm
Dandy OUT, Lats IN.
Begin, Lapierre and Steit.
Smoke, TK and Lats
Sorry, DieHard, Ryder still healthy watching.
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:33 pm
So.
habs4life, what’s your point?
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:34 pm
It is just as well for Carbo stick his finger up his *** then to put Lats in!!!
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:39 pm
no, sir. that’s the latest news for 3rd and 4th line. So far, no info for 1st and 2nd.
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:44 pm
Carbo should split SK11 and AK27. Simply, Carbo cannot put on his lucky tie every game.
SK11 and AK27 in one line is somehow “leadership” zero-sum.
April 28, 2008 pm30 12:56 pm
For Carbo, I’d rather change ONE line instead of mixing the two lineups: Keeping 4th line unchanged; just putting Lats to Dandy’s position. Why mix up???

Knuble may be coming back tonight for the Flyers. Any of you out there know which knee is the ailing one? If you do, pass it on down to the CH dressing room and make sure that Tom(6), Steve(22) and Mike(8)get the message.
On another note, now that Jacques Lemaire has been let go by the Wild, is there any chance he might come back to the Hab Family? I watched him all the time he played for Canadiens; he was the best 2 way player (and I do not mean that in the Flyer sense; he only likes women)ever. Number #25 should have been retired years ago. Anybody out there know what the deal is? He must have pissed off somebody really big in the organization.

COUNTDOWN TO FLYER AMF TIME:
One down, three to go.
April 28, 2008 pm30 2:09 pm
Koivu centring Kovalev and Higgins
Plekanec centring the Kostitsyn brothers
Smolinski centring Latendresse and Kostopoulos
Lapierre centring Streit and Bégin
Hope this works well.

Whoever it was that wrote about Markov being injured was right on.
The guy used to lead all the rushes up ice, skate in from the blue line on a give-and-go, and apply muscle in our end. I believe his problem is the main reason our power play is gone. Bouillon can log the puck but the Flyers have been abusing him like a flyswatter on a mosquito.
We got any defenseman on the farm ( or on the bench) that can take the puck down the ice?

habs4life not bad line up but why in the hell would you even think latendresse in the line up put a real hockey player back in Ryder
April 28, 2008 pm30 2:55 pm
Well at least we finally have slow as hell Dandedault if finally out of lineup!
I like the toughness of the 3rd line Smolinski – Latendresse – Kostopoulos
And I like putting Begin and Lapierre back together on the 4th line.
The only last thing I would love to see on that 4th line would replacing Streit with Ryder so we get Begin-Lapierre-Ryder OR I would really love to see
Chipchura-Lapierre-Begin

Habs never lack of skills, but we do need “hitting” and “blocking”.
Warriors, like TK06 and Begin, are really needed in the lineups. So, for the lineup change tonight, I can see the “physical” factor.

Bégin and TK06 are both “physical” motivators. Splitting them could make TWO lines energetic. That’s what Carbo thought, I guess.

Tony and portly:
Thanks for the thoughtful explanantions. I remember reading something about the Rocky statue being moved from the Art Museum to the Spectrum but I didn’t know the details behind it.
As far a statues of fictional characters go, I’m quite certain that they exist in every city. And although I’m not entirely in agreement with the idea of them being idolized, I do appreciate the more general iconism that they represent. But then, we’re a strange culture.
As to the old forum, I believe that it has since be turned in to an entertainment center, with pieces of its historical past being preserved within. For example, center ice, as I understand it, still resides in the middle of the complex.
