Habs / Flyers: Game 4

  • Written by Habs BlogHabs Blog 282 Comments282 Comments Comments
    Last Updated: April 30, 2008

The Canadiens trail a playoff series for the first time this year. Down 2-1 for game 4 tonight in Philly.

Despite out shooting the Flyers by 20 shots the Canadiens dropped game 3. The powerplay clicked in the end, but was horrendous in the beginning when it was needed. Combined with some bad bounces, unlucky posts and bad goaltending, the Canadiens played catch up down 2-0 for the third straight game.

Guy Carbonneau is playing a few headgames by keeping his starting goalie a ’secret’ until game time.

Expect Carey Price to return to the lineup and redeem his poor effort on Monday night.

Other than Martin Biron and their penalty killing unit, the Flyers have not overly impressed in any way. The Canadiens have defeated themselves.

Should the Habs start executing - manage to score first, have decent goaltending and have an average or better powerplay - they should not have any problem getting back into the series.

Incidentally, do the Flyers intend to help out with crowd control at hip-hop concerts in Montreal? Because that was, in fact, the source of the riots. Do your homework.

So has Montreal Canadiens figured out what they are doing for a net minder?…how about a brick wall?…because thats about all thats going to stop us…Philly, on the other hand, have Biron, which solves our net minder problem unless Montreal gets 60 minutes of power plays this game vs. 20 minutes last game. How do the matadors say it?…OLE OLE OLE…what a *** saying…must be a Canadien thing.

So I really don’t care how or why or who about these riots…they just happened following the Habs 7th game win over an unskilled team like Boston and now the low class Hab fans have blood on their hands.

Do they have excuse books at the book stores up there in Montreal? You Hab fans have an excuse for every loss…”goal posts, rough playing(too many Russians on your team), Biron was lucky, Price had a bad game”…etc. Why can’t you loose with class and just accept the fact your team does not have what it takes to win playoff style hockey against the Flyers, maybe next year or the next but not this year…PERIOD! Either you go easy or hard…we’ll take you out…even with the officials on your side!!!

Sorry guys for deserting you the last couple of games I had to go away an no internet.

Anyway here is how I see the last two games, considering we outplayed the flyers both games and came out losing in both cases concerns me but being a die hard habs fan I still have faith in my team.

This is what we have to do, we have to start to screen Biron, he is not that good of a goaltender but we have made him look good. Most goalies can make 99% of the saves if they can see the puck. We have not screened Biron at all so we have to start putting players in from of the net and get some screen shots. Now there is no point in putting men in front of the net if the defense is not going to shoot the puck so that is another priority. Once we start to do that then it will force Philly to come out to the point which will give our forwards more room to work down low. That should improve our power play as well as our five on five. Now our defence have to give our goaltender a chance to see the puck. Two of the three goals Philly got last game were screen shots that Price did not see to the last second. He got his glove on both of them but not enough to stop the puck. To me the media has been far to hard on him. Also you have to realize that he only had 17 shots on goal and at the time of the two goals he only had 6 shots, so he was hard for him to physically be in the game with so little activity.

I have not lost faith, but we do have to win tonight otherwise it will be difficult to win three in a row.

I agree, but the one thing they are doing is keeping the shooting lanes open so their goalie can see the puck and they have been able to clog up the passing lanes down low. Our forwards are looking for the perfect pass, good things happen when you shoot the puck at the net, just look at the goals that philly are scoring.

See the shot that Striet just made from the pass from Lappiere. It was a useless shot, the only way a goalie is not going to stop that shot is to have a heart attack. It would have been much better had he held onto the puck and waited for the rest of the team to clog the front of the net.

In the Boston series I said that the habs character had to come out in game seven, there was no urgency in games 5 or 6 but there was in game 7.

Well there is urgency in game 4 in this series because we cannot go down 3-1. Hopefully, they will respond. Here is what I would do, I would break up our checking line and put one player on each of the first and second lines. We need to get some phycial play on those lines and getting someone in front of the net.

The judge asked the boy, “do you want to live with your mother?”
He replied, “No I don’t want to live with her because she beats me!”.
The judge then asked, “Do you want to live with your father?”
The boy stated, “No he beats me too.”
Finally the judge asked, “where do you want to live?”

This is frustrating to watch, i cant imagine what it’s like to play. Montreal is playing against the worst team in the playoffs, dominating like never before, and they can’t get a save from their goaltenders. Biron is playing very well, true, but how many games can you win when your goalies literally never bail the team out. Pathetic.

That being said, the Flyers are a weak team, and the Habs are playing like they’re a weak team. The difference, again, is goaltending. Soft goals by Montreal’s goaltenders and the inability to score on Brion - a highly overrated goaltender.

58 DieHard Habs Fan: As I see it,Carbo would have been criticized by you whether he made this move or not, if he left Price in the net and he had another game like the last one, (not that I am blaming him for those goals or the loss) then everyone would have blamed Carbo for not making the move. Halak has played very well and if you listen to the experts, the goal was not entirely his fault either. You cannot let philly have those kind of shots because they are in a good position and a hard shot for the goalie to cover the entire net.

Anyway I see this move as a good move for two reasons, one to shake up our team and the defense and secondly simply to see if he could get some spark into the team. One thing our defense has played better tonight. Our team as a whole have played very well too. If we loose we do have one thing going for us even though we are down 3-1 we are playing well. So if we loose we come back with Price next game, if we win we stay with Halak until we loose. Halak if you remember played a number of games last year at the end of the season when Huet was hurt and had he played the last game against the leafs we probably would have made the playoffs.

LUCK?????? Have you been watching Biron?
Put you glasses on Pappy and why are you a “future” Habs fan. Too much commitment? After the Habs lose are you a Future Pens Fan?

If it wasn’t for luck in Game 1, the Flyers would be wrapping this thing up tonight, you convoluted rose glassed a-hole…

So can we all agree now that our position has very little to do with our goaltending but has everything to do with the fact we can’t score? We’ve missed at least three open nets tonight, and we’ve not given Biron any grief at all. That’s why we’re losing this game, and the series - it has nothing to do with anything else…

now at least have the guts to say that second goal was lucky….if you are going to say they flyers have gotten all the bounces you need to admit that its not going to be any better than that

no…they created a chance for themselves just like you did there….luck happens in cards not in a real sport….teams create what happens during a game…you can create a bad situation and give up a “fluke” goal or you can just stand your man up at the blue line and have it called great defense

All the Flyers goals are lucky beacuse the Flyers are Crappy… Oh wait
If Flyers=crappy and they are winning 3 games to 1 then what does that make the Habs?

There’s no luck in this game guys. The Flyers are winning because they have a better goaltender. That is it. It’s the only reason this series is 3-1. Playoff games are always low scoring.

Refs are so f**ken biased! that wasn’t a penalty! Flyers are the luckiest team and the the crappiest! They’re going nowhere!nowhere!nowhere!
    They’re never getting ny Pittsburgh!
