  • Habs / Bruins: Game 1

The Playoffs finally get underway for the Conference Champion Canadiens tonight in Montreal.

It’s the first time in a long time, that the Canadiens enter the Playoffs as a favorite, expected to win, and expected to go deep.

The Habs of course are even heavier favorites against the Bruins having dominated them in every way, including 11 consecutive wins dating back to the 06/07 regular season.

There’s no reason to assume this should change. On paper the Canadiens are still better than the Bruins in every category that counts.

The only thing ‘experts’ and the media can seem to come up with is the Canadiens are young & inexperienced. They are to an extent, as are most teams including the Bruins.

Both Netminders have zero playoff experience. Who do you put your money on in goal?

Carey Price, a World Junior Champion, an AHL MVP & Champion.
Or, Tim Thomas, a 34 year old journeyman, fish out of water tap dancer goaltender.

    The choice seems obvious.

But this is the NHL playoffs of course, and the Bruins will not roll over and die.

What can we expect from Boston to try and reverse their fortunes against the Habs?

    Anything and everything they have.

If the Habs have a weakness, it’s their inability to deal with physical play. Expect to see a lot of Milan Lucic and Shawn Thornton. Expect Zdeno Chara to play 35 minutes a game.

Expect them to crash Carey Price, expect them to be dirty and flagrant. Expect Alex Kovalev to be harassed and assaulted every time he’s on the ice.

Because if the Bruins don’t play that way, this could be a very short and sweet first round series.
