Sean Rosebrugh, Baltimore Even watching on TV, and listening through a 5.1 surround, a knowledgable fan could close his eyes & know that a Habs home game was underway. For a few years around the move, it seemed to be completely gone, and its actually come almost all the way back. To revert again now is a monumental mistake. There is nothing better than a winning Habs atmosphere w/ organ music. It separates us from the ECHL. Think “Forum circa 1979″, not U2. Alexandre Desautels, Vaudreuil-Dorion
I’ve waited a full year just to hear that old Oh oh oh oh oh heyyy song they put when Hab’s score goals. What a disappointment when I heard that U2 song. Not that I don’t like U2 but the old song (specially made for Montreal’s Canadiens) was the BEST GOAL SONG in the NHL if not in the entire sports world. I hope they will bring back that nice song. Still singing it in my head ( oh oh oh oh oh hey…)
Keep up good work Habs
Michal Izzo, Laval
With all due respect, the new goal song just plain sucks. It displays a complete lack of emotion as well as relations to any aspect of the game. The Box was a previously unheard of local band who composed an invigorating sound specifically for Montreal. Vertigo? Please, I was at the Toronto game and was completely taken aback at the lack in atmosphere after a Hab’s goal. Two years ago we’d be chanting along in mass celebration. That atmosphere was completely gone. Bring back the original goal song, the one that was talked about the league over for its unique sound and unparalled place in a hockey arena which has sorely missed good music since the departure of the organists. You’d be surprised how many more fans will appreciate a much better night out thanks to bringing back The Box’s The Goal. Thank you for your time. Richard Singer, Montreal
Absolutely Ridiculous! The old song was amazing, we all sing in Unison and celebrate, this one drows out the crowd noise and is a complete sellout!! IT PLAIN SUCKS!!! EVEN THE GARY GLITTER SONG WAS A LOT BETTER THEN THIS, I BEG YOU TO CHANGE IT. Geoff, Montreal
This is the most retarded change they could have made. The old song was half the reason i attended games. When i went one this year with a bunch of buddies, the habs scored and it sounded like someone just turned on the radio…uhh excuse me? thats for the ride home, im at the game now! Vertigo is the shittiest goal song Ive ever heard !!!!! Anybody who gets excited because of that song should be shot in the face. The old song might simply be the greatest goal song in the history of pro sports so please bring it back so that canadiens fans can be proud of their song instead of being ashamed of it Vertigo is a shitty song that deserves to be played in a shitty arena for a shitty team - possibly the Columbus Bluejackets. The Canadiens are much too good for it. On a more serious note, the original Goal Song - played for the past few years - has become somewhat part of the Montreal culture, and is instantly recognizable by many as the song played when the Canadiens score a goal. It is catchy, rhythmic, energizing, and highly unique — way above the standard pseudo-alternative fare that is played at any other sports arena.
Change is often necessary — goalie pads, the center line, incompetent balding player reps –
but don’t change the one element that every fan agrees is a crucial part of the Montreal Canadiens experience!I actually get a little bit afraid now when the Habs score a goal, because I know that Bono’s crappy, overrated voice is soon to follow. I think in my head: “Please hit the post Kovalev, don’t let it go in. Anything but hearing U2 take a dump on popular music again.”
Please, please bring the original Goal Song back, and do a great service to the legions of fans who await its glorious return with immeasurable anticipation.
I is a disgrace to the fans….The old Via Rail Goal song was the best goal song i have ever heard. The fans love to hum along with it at the game at there home or at the bar. It brings the fans closer together and gets them more involved in the game. Now U2 is a great and talented music group..dont get me wrong there but its simply out of place. PLease bring back the goal song. Whenever im with my buddies and the habs score..we dont we chant the old song. so please the NHL is always making the game better for the fans sake..well make it better than reinstate the old goal song. Thanks i dont get chills when i hear bono! do you Mr Boivin? The heart of that building lies in the haunting and inspiring chant of dan dan dan dan danana danana oooooooooooooo oooooooo ooooooh, i dont want U2 letting me know my team is great.
BRING IT BACK!!!When you see a goal scored in the bell centre, the crowd goes wild, and expects the old Oh oh oh oh oh, not U2, you can’t just take away something every canadian fan in the world loves and replace it with some song that doesn’t even really apply to sports, the songs a disgrace to sports and goal songs all over the world. Bring back the old goal song. Montreal, Please bring back the old goal song! The new song is so bad! The old one was so amazing, everybody knew it, and everyone sang it! Bring back the old one!!! U2 was a great band but their recent album was the worst they have ever recorded. Vertigo is one of the worst and stupidest songs I have ever heard in my life. Listening to Vertigo almost takes the joy out of seeing the Canadiens score. Instead of celebrating a goal with a weak pop-culture song, go back to The Box’s “The Goal” song which is truly a Canadiens song. Bring the atmosphere back to the Bell Centre. This new song is horrible. We’ve been through so much with the old song, we need to bring it back!!! Make it happen!!! Come on. The old song was something DISTINCTIVE. It was an inside thing - only Habs fans would know what it was. And now they have to play Vertigo?? First of all, it’s one of the most popular songs out there, and second, it’s not even a good song! Bring the old one back! (And also, could we convince Hockey Night in Canada to bring back the theme they had two years ago?) ok…vertigo…seriously?what is that? after the fact of: THAT SONG SUCKS…what does U2 have to do with the habs? r they even canadian? i dont know, and frankly don’t care because it doesn’t matter….now don’t get me wrong…and please God DO NOT change the goal song to any shania twain piece of garbage…but consider seriously changing the song back to the original, because hockey is back and it made everyone happy…so dont ruin it for us U2 Vertigo is a horrible goal song, wheres the passion? I hear that and I think of Bono bitching about something; not an appropriate goal song for the best team in the NHL.
