  • Old Men and bad decisions.

We are about 2 weeks into the season and some things I thought would be happening are already happening.

There were several retirements by veteran and Hall of Fame calibre NHL players leading up to the debut of the season. Some players decided to stay, and one of the more famous ones decided to become a coach. Who made the right choice? Let’s have a look.

Steve Yzerman is already injured after playing 1 single game. A Tweaked groin, but perhaps his withered abused body is just too weak to play a competitve game at a competitive level. 20 plus seasons is a long time. Should Stevie Y have hung up his skates before the season too? Is this the first of many more injuries this season? Or perhaps he’ll go out the way Brett Hull did.

Brett Hull hung around long enough for suckers to draft him into their hockey pool, and to maybe give Phoenix fans a little something to cheer about. Then as he usually does, he gave up. Announced his retirement. A couple weeks too late Brett.

Brett abandoned his buddy Wayne Gretzky who’s off to a 1-4 start with the Coyotes. Thoughts of regret may already be floating in the Great One’s head. Wayne isn’t a quitter however, and don’t expect him to bow out mid-season should the Coyotes finish dead last.

It’s got to be tough to give up the game of their lives at the right time, but it seems at least a few had the strength to do just that and not embarrass themselves any further.

  • Brawling Leafs Visit Montreal

The Toronto Maple Leafs coming off a 9-1 victory which included several fights and 109 minutes in penalties vs Atlanta come to Montreal tonight in look for another big win.

Jeff O’neill has started to settle in putting up a Hat trick vs the Thrashers. Will the confident Leafs have enough juice (and blood) left to put up a road victory vs the Habs?

The Canadiens are still looking for their first home win of the season. Nothing would be sweeter than putting it up vs the Leafs in Montreal. The rested Habs may have a slight advantadge over the battered and tired Maple Leafs. Injured Richard Zednik is questionable to start. The Habs could use his presence and scoring touch sooner than later.

  • Senet1 : Bickell would be a good pickup.
  • HabsLoseAgain : He is a ufa if I am not mistaken. Seems to be having a good playoff so far.
  • HabsLoseAgain : Wonder if marc bergevin with his old Chicago ties might be able to bring bickell on board. He would be just what the habs are looking for imo
  • HabsLoseAgain : Not sure if this has been discussed already but what does everyone think of roland melanson coming out and say how prices game has fallen apart since he was let go by the habs. Does not really say much when he is the goalie coach for the canucks in my opinion
  • Senet1 : Signing Drewiske may tell us that there are plans to remove Diaz, Weber and maybe even Markov. Drewiske did not have enough time to learn our defensive system and I am thinking that he was signed because they feel he can be a good defenceman for us with time to learn the system. It also tells me that probably only one of the young D-men will make our team that being Tinordi. Beaulieau will probably play (start) in Hamilton.
  • Mats Naslund : Habs sign Davis Drewiske to a 2 year extension. He basically makes league minimum. I like the signing. Nothing exciting - but you want him to hold the last spot until a young guy forces his way onto the roster.
