Alex Kovalev not on waivers.

  • Bob Gainey has something cooking, apparently Alex Kovalev and $4.5M of his salary was just put on waivers.

    Or maybe not.

This turns out not to be true, a mistake printed by the Associated Press blown out of proportion. Got to love the Internet and rumors at trade deadline time….it won’t be the last one.

Clearing $4.5 Million of salary sure got some people excited.

    I think it’s a misprint…Kovy is back and Downey is on waivers…..

Kovalev, more like on Drugs……….The NHL should be for only North American players. Mostly Newfie Born and French Canadians…LOL………

  4. Kovalev on waivers is not comfirmed in fact it may be a mistake by USA today. He was removed from the IR today and Downey was waived to make room, but we’ll see

  5. Thats what i’ve heard.

UPDATE!: The Fourth Period reports Kovalev’s agent denies that his client has been placed on waivers. Canadiens rep Donald Beauchamp laughingly denied it, and confirmed that it was Aaron Downey, not Kovalev, who’d been placed on waivers.

too bad. I was hoping it was true, because putting Kovalev on waivers is like chemotherapy for the CANCER! would have cured all our ailments!

There is no way Koivu and Sammy are out tonight while we are sending players down to the dogs???

It’s true. It was on THE SCORE. KOIVU and SAMSONOV are out for the game tonight, with the flu. Begin and Kovalev(cancer) in their places.
such a soft team. these lazy, soft millionaires can’t pick up a stick and skate for a fuc#$%ken 20 minutes! So much for eurolazies!

I will only believe if they are not on the Ice tonight. Does the Score have sources on the Club? We’d be playing at least 1 player down with no body in the press box, and thats playing Nimmi as a forward again??? Milroy, Kostitsyn, Rivet, ANd Koivu and Sammy would all be out line up?

  12. OK word is that Saku is playing BUT Samsonov is not. Samsonov for Aucoin, its coming. I reckon you”ll hear it before the puck drops tonight.

Chicago has just traded Smolinski to the Canucks.
Caps traded Zednik, again to the NYI; Now that trade is a joke. Do you know what you’re getting NY?
Roberts(pendind him waiving his no trade clause), is going to Pittsburgh.
If we don’t trade Souray ,it would be horrible for the habs future. We could rebuild a team around what we would get in return, nsmely 1st round draft picks, probably a player off a roster, and other picks.

  14. I can almost see a Samsanov and Perezhogin for Aucoin and Seabrook or something resembling that, i heard chicage was trying to sign Samsanov last summer.
This being said i believe Sammy has no movement clause and i’m not sure which 10 teams he is willing to go to. I’d rather not have Aucoin and his Salary, but i can’t see us moving sammy without taking some money back in return. I don’t really want to lose Perez but if we could get Saebrook in return i’d do it.

Don’t have a good feeling about tonites game. Someone try to tell me otherwise but I think this team just doesn’t have what it takes to push themselves into the playoffs. Besides; I think many of the Leafs remeber last years sweep which ultimately lead to their demise so I beleive they’re more motivated than we are.
I do hope I am wrong though

    Go Habs Go

  16. Samsonov must know that if he stays in Montreal he is dealing with a coach, team, and for all I know some team mates who are beginning to find him a pain. If he takes the deal with Chicago (I believe its there, and he will) he gets a fresh start on a team he can be a leading light on, and he helps out the Montreal organization (such things are remembered). There are only so many people, and so many times you can annoy. This guy needs to start making some friends. Your kind of town (Sammy) Chicago is!

  17. As odd as this sounds coming from a habs fan they may end up doing us a favour in the long run by beating us tonight… I also find it odd that Abby is in goal tonight, he’s been outplayed by Halak so far..

What a big phoquen mistake sendy Kosty back down. Trade deadline and Gainey’s big move equals acquiring Butterfly Biron, another big goon who couldn’t check worth crap to save its own life. HEY BOB! YA YOU! YOU HAD THE WHOLE PHOQUE LEAGUE AND YOU GET ANOTHER UNDERACHIEVER?

Now I know there is something wrong with the Habs.

Gainey knows he’s gonna lose Souray and Markov for sure, why is he not trying to get something decent, in return? What let their contracts expire? Is that wise GM material?

  20. #20 Joshtm says:
    February 26, 2007 at 8:07 pm

In a way I feel sorry for Bob Gainey, no body loves him enough to give him a decent trade, yet he is under pressure to let Souray go. Thing is, you don’t know what he is being offered in return. For all we know Pittsburgh could be dangling Ovechkin or someone like that and knowing Gainey, he’s gonna say no.

Guys lets not bash the GM until we have proof for it. Theres still time and usually the last moments are where Bob acts.

  22. Joshtm u must admit, u couldnt have imagined gainey getting what he did for rivet
gotta at least give him props for that.

Good point LJ55. I am thankful that Gainey has at least some common sense. Rivet was one of those millionaires who just were not producing. Although Rivet would be great when he retires as a Habs exec of some type, perhaps Rivet is not ready to retire yet.

Maybe Rivet thinks the Sharks have a chance and maybe Rivet will propel the Sharks to the cup! And to think we treat his Rivetness like he was nobody…

Honestly Gainey is probably more afraid of doing a horrible trade, what having acquired so much crap, its no wonder that he is not even gonna gamble on getting the leagues best if it was offered to him. Gainey has painted himself into the corner, he is playing Russian Roulette now with four bullets. The only person who can blame Gainey is Gainey.

  24. Freeking Kovalev just stated he decides when to play and he’s playing today cause his elbow feels 100% ,so he won’t play if it feels 95% even if it’s a playoff race in other words. He pisses me off and he owes us a hat-trick for that one, tonite. Game on…

Geeze Loooease, I am suprised Gainey and Carbo can’t see it. Ryder and all those others just being muscled. That’s what happens when you don’t have rookies to gnaw them down.

Abby just doesn’t have it, neither does Huet. Gainey needs to trade for a decent goalie, trade both of them.

Friggen Kovalev gave it away. So much for the Koivu line, the rookies are not there to back it up.

I wonder if Begin is next on the Gainey cross hairs. But Rivet was unhappy early in the season. So was Samsonov, makes you wonder if Gainey is gonna trade Sammy for Aucoin now, if only to shut me up.

First 3 lines score. Kovalev doesn’t seem to have an injury problem anymore. Begin has a foot problem? Yeah right :D

Fourth line is checking hard and getting chances.

Now the only problem will be KEEPIN THIS UP FOR ANOTHER 40 MINS!!!

  38. #38 Joshtm says:
    February 26, 2007 at 9:20 pm

Holy crap, Stajan should be ejected and fined, that was a cheap shot, intent to injure! Now we lost Begin again.

We really need Laraques now, if Gainey doesn’t see that one, I don’t know! But hey at least it’s nice to see the whole team playing as a team for once, except for being outmuscled and knocked down. Montreals needs an enforcer of some type, not a real dirty one, but hey when you have the likes of the Sen’s and their hitmen, the Leafs and their hitmen, the league has all but declared war on each other. If Montreal is not there, they are gonna see not just Begin out before the end of the season….

Didja get that? TSN crapped all over Yellow teeth Sundin, cause Kovalev hogged the puck! Oh ya, cause Kovalev played like he is paid to, that gives TSN an excuse for the Laffs to trade….

But, really it makes you wonder if Gainey is gonna trade, who is next? Maybe he’s told em, if you play really well, I’ll trade ya to a cup contender..ahahahaaa….that might explain Kovalev and Johnson maybe….what a laff!

  41. #41 Joshtm says:
    February 26, 2007 at 9:38 pm

What the phoque? Begin gets penalty instead? Stajan practically deserved it! Time to send in Halak cause Montreal has gone into its typical, oh ya we won mode already and its only the start of the third period!

At least Higgins is back pestering the laffs goalie, the only hab to actually play like a real NHL player on the offense…

    So the Sharks want Souray?
I bettter here the name Patrick Marleau cause Souray’s not going anywhere.

Did someone trick Kovalev into the wrong date? I think he thinks it’s playoff time.
Man when he wants to play there’s nobody better.
I don’t care about the other 60 games as long as he’s here when we need him.
