- Senet1 : He may just bring all three of the kids up.
- muller93 : MB is forced to go out and get a big D-man. Missing Emelin for almost half the season is the last thing we needed to hear. Now going out and getting a big D-man is a MUST!!!
- muller93 : Now for the Fu**en Bruins who have no business even being in the second round are going to get a nice rest. Yes the same goons who took out one of best D-man for 6 more months. There is NO Fu**en justice. Just venting--Ok i feel better now.
- muller93 : So pissed to see the Rangers lay down and play like total crap. How did the Rangers beat the Caps? This team is playing with no heart--a must win and can only muster 23 shots...PATHETIC !!!
- muller93 : Senet I did see Galchenyuks goal--Made a great move for the game winner. You can see the kid has so much confidence.
- goalie : If Rangers get swept I wonder if Tortorella will get his walking papers? Or Glen Sather? They have tons of 'talent' but zero wins in this series.
- goalie : It's really too bad we lost to the Sens as we would have played the Rangers and the way NYR are playing we would have beat them too. If only. If only!
- Senet1 : Actually I agree it was a good move for them to play a shorter season and get the experience. He could not have played in the minors this year he would have had to play junior or the NHL. However, he now has a year under him and knows what to expect next year and hopefully take a bigger responsibility on the team. Did you see those two goals in the bronze game? Wow.
- muller93 : Good move by the Habs not having Galchenyuk play in the minors. Now Galchenyuk has 1 year in the NHL and playoff experience this is going to pay off big time come next year.
- Senet1 : Galchenyuk scores to back to back goals in shoot out to help USA win Bronze metal. I did not see the second goal but the first was a beauty.
- Senet1 : So we could pick anywhere from 25th to 23rd depending on who wins these quarter final series.
- Senet1 : First, is the 14 teams in the lottery. Then there are 12 teams that did not make the semi finals in the order of the seasonal finish, Then there are the four teams in the semi final the first two eliminated pick in the order of the regular season points total and the last two based on who wins and who loses the cup. So as it stand now if say Detroit beats Chicago then Detroit moves up to pick after us. Boston or NYR will move up and pick after us. LA or San Jose will move up and pick after us
- Senet1 : Basically, I was wrong about the draft pick situation. There are three groups of drafting teams within the 30 teams.
- Senet1 : seriously ready to challenge for the cup. He will us win games but he will not be the difference between winning the cup and not winning the cup. You pick up players like that once you have the team ready to challenge,.
- Senet1 : I am looking at the players to draft and there are a lot of big 6'3-6'5 forwards available ion the draft this year. If we could draft 3-4 big young players in the 2nd and 3rd round why would you want to give that up for a roster player who may have 2-3 years at best. If we are going to build a winner to have to build it with bigger players and there are a lot of good big players available this year. So you sign Ott and he is with us for the short run, but probably not when we are seriously re
- Senet1 : Boullion is a great mentor for the young D-men
- muller93 : Boullion is one of MBs great additions--Boull ion is a definite Keeper.
- muller93 : Getting rid of Kaberle frees up a lot of cash. Boullion is small but is reliable and doesn't back down from anyone.
- muller93 : Exactly Goalie any thoughts on a punishing D-man?
- goalie : They;re showing determination adn skill vs Ducks and Blackhawks.
- goalie : REd Wings could turn out to be the surprise team of this year's playoffs!
- goalie : WE need to rid our team of Kaberle and Webber. Step two would be to then move Diaz. If we get that big d-man I believe that would push Boullion to # 7 on the chart. We'd then go with Georges, PK,Markov (to continue mentoring Ememlin) Tinordi as our starting six . THEN I'd be excited about our chances. We could then work on getting bigger forwards.
- goalie : I too would gladly give up a 3rd round pick for Ott- the type of player we sadly lack. AND if we could get one more rugged, expeienced defenceman it would help immensely.
- muller93 : Senet what you are saying makes sense but if we can get Ott for a 3rd round I'll take that all day.
- muller93 : MB should be looking at a big D-man first, even though I like our blue line with the addition of Tinordi. We need that insurance just in case one gets injured. Also I'm a firm believer in starting with the goalie first then-defense-for wards-and we already have good goalie. We have all noticed when we have the lead Price is tough to beat.
- Senet1 : So sometimes you have to sacrifice for one year or two to build that team in the draft. then add the finishing touches through FA and trades.
- Senet1 : Muller, Detroit is another good example. They have been in the hunt every year with good well balanced teams yet only one or two cups to show for it. However, they have built a team that has a chance every years for the last 10+ years. That is what I think we have a chance to do this year with a good draft. It reminds me of the habs teams of the mid 80 and 90's we built a team then with sold draft picks and won the cup twice during that time period. So sometimes you have to sacrifice a one
- muller93 : Very true Senet, you do need luck and we haven't had any luck it seems since the habs moved to the Bell Center. We had an incredible run in 2010 with some crazy goal tending from Halak. With Galchenyuk-Tinor di-Gallagher all in 1 year--not too bad, even with an early exit in the playoffs.
- Senet1 : Muller I guess we all have our own ideas, but there has never been too many times that were successful when they traded their draft picks away. We have a chance to build this team so we have a shot at winning the cup over the next 10 years. Even as good as Pittsburgh has been they have only won the cup once since Crosby and Malkin have been with the team. That is because you not only need great players but you need luck to win, but one thing about Pittsburgh they have a chance every year. The
- muller93 : Good point on Torres, he might be a liability. Torres has to tone it down a bit, but that's his game-very aggressive.
- goalie : Though I don't condone what Raffi Torres did - thos shows you how repeat offenders or near offenders are going to be treated. His hit was NOT illegal BUT what the rap sheet adn reputation Torres has he got severly punished. Lesson to be learned by OTHER players because Torres dopesn't learn fromk his mistakes.
- muller93 : Senet normally I would agree with you on not trading draft picks but we are not in a rebuilding stage. Sometimes draft picks can be a roll of the dice and it can take up to 3 years to be NHL ready. We have a good team and I agree with Stuo players like Clowe-Torres-Ott -Scott will make a big difference. Somebody has to protect Gallagher, he can't keep getting hit the way does--we need a tough forward so they think twice before going after Gallagher.
- Senet1 : Really a heathly Habs team would probably win more games against the Pens that we did against the Sens. Reason they Pens would not play as physical against us as against the Sens. If we get good goaltending we win at least two games.
- zpezada4ok : hello all «link»
- stuo11 : hes a tougher big guy too! Just a minor adjustment but will help a bit

GOOO GAINEY GOOOOOOO
June 20, 2008 at 8:24 pm
I am all for this move for sure, the 25th pick would have done nothing at all for the Habs in the short term. We get a seasoned player, a former Cup winner and a guy who can help NOW, GO HABS GO!!!
June 20, 2008 at 8:25 pm
Bravo Bob !!! Keep it up buddy !!
June 20, 2008 at 9:01 pm
NICE!!!!
June 20, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Calgary held Tanguay back…he needs to be on a more offensive minded team…. he tore it up in Colorado
June 20, 2008 at 10:01 pm
The most sound names in Calgary are Tanguay and Iginla (my understanding).
He is to Montreal, way to go!
June 20, 2008 at 10:09 pm
WOW, what a score. I said last summer that the Canadiens would be a much better team then… now, they just A LOT better… I hope that Koivu will stay now. No one should knock the guy. Look what he brought at the end of the series agains Boston.
Alex may even play with Alex? LOL. I’m sure a line will get juggled like that at some point during the next season.
Gainey is getting hungry now! What a move!
June 20, 2008 at 10:25 pm
I think Tanguay should play with Koivu and Higgins. Andrei,Kovalev and Plekanec have too much chemisrty. So guys with the cap going up to 57 Mill we still have about 6 Mill to spend! I say try to sign Brad stuart or Vandermmer and also go after Laraque. I made 5 bucks also, I told my dad once Calgary got Cammeleri that calgary was looking for a trade with the habs now and my dad said no lol.
June 20, 2008 at 10:25 pm
Boo! We need size, he **** the bed in Calgary and couldn’t handle the pressure here, now imagine in MTL! Our team is built for the regular season, we need toughness or a big powerforward. Nonetheless he’ll do well and MTL just got another frenchmen, enjoy.
June 20, 2008 at 10:34 pm
I liked Calgary before this trade and now they are my best friend! They got Cammeleri, so It’s a win win situation on both sides, Bob Gainey should be pround because he just made a quater of hockey fans happy. The habs 2nd line is better than the leafs 1st!
June 20, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Or maybe let Streit walk and sign Campbell?
June 20, 2008 at 11:24 pm
With what we have left if will be for Sundin.Tanguay wants to play here this is a bonus,he is also well suited for our style of play,he should be a good fit.
June 20, 2008 at 11:27 pm
How effed it would it be if Mats signed here? Our team would be stacked and it would be the biggest slap in the face to the Laffs. Come on Mats!
June 21, 2008 at 12:37 am
Actually Tanguay did NOT want to play here. Remember last year at the trade deadline? He told Sutter at that time that he didn’t want to come to Montreal. Maybe he changed his mind when he realized he wasn’t wanted in Calgary.
June 21, 2008 at 1:13 am
Good move. Now if the Habs can get Sundin to sign, they have an opportunity to seriously compete for the Stanley Cup, something they obviously were not capable of this past year, even though they had a decent record. Sundin is the key.
June 21, 2008 at 6:57 am
Does Montreal have the cap space for Sundin or do they have a deal in place with Toronto where a big name is going their way if they sign Sundin.
June 21, 2008 at 8:03 am
we would have enough for sundin but say goodbye to Streit and Ryder. I think that The habs have what it takes already. The only probablem lat year was expierience and now no one can stop us! our 3rd line is probably better than the leafs 1st. We can count on everyone! The habs are more of a team than anyone. Obviously Malkin just wants money so he doesn’t have much heart.
June 21, 2008 at 10:52 am
habs line for next year( if sundin signs)
A. Kostitsyn – Sundin – Kovalev (new money line….woahhoo)
S. Kostitsyn – Koivu – Tanguay (better than most 1st line out there)
Higgins – Plekanec – Latendresse(decent 3rd line)
Begin – Lapierre – Chipchura(…)
Price in the net from the get go….sweet team
June 21, 2008 at 12:54 pm
UNTIL NOW MATTS NAME WAS NOT ALLOWED TO BE SPOKEN IN MY HOUSE.
EVEN THE LEAF FANS THAT VISITED REFIRED TO HIM AS
“HE WHO SHALL NOT BE NAMED”
WHAT DO WE DO LAUGH ,CRY, LOVE HIM,HATE HIM ..$%&#$^&
HE CAN ONLY HELP OUR CAUSE TO BRING THE CUP HOME ..WELCOME MR. SUNDIN HOPE YOU JUMP SHIP AND JOIN US.
ALL MAPLE LEAF FANS GET READY TO SEE YOUR EX CAPITAN RAISE THE STANLEYCUP IN A RED WHITE AND BLUE SWEATER ….
June 21, 2008 at 2:34 pm
big dogg- about three of our roster players will probably go if we get sundin. If the leafs want that, I would just say get lost! But the 3rd line u have there is pretty sick. That line is also a 1st line on some teams. Montreal already has the best offence. no team has a better 2nd line than ours. no one has a better 3rd line than ours. And in the east we probably have the best defence! We can handle Detroit because he have huge d Men. We have Komi,Markov,Hamrlik, etc. No eastern team can handle us now, not even Pittsburgh! We have better defence and goaltending than pitts(Priceis better believe me!) So we have a team to make it to the finals, but I think Sundin would take us farther!
June 21, 2008 at 2:41 pm
and Tanguay did want to come here. It was his choice with all of Calgary looking at him and he chose Montreal. He waived his no trade clause just to come here. Sutter said that he didn’t want to lose him. and so he game him an extension and now here he is, Alex Tanguay the French canadain we’ve been asking for! 90% Sure the cup is coming now and with sundin 99.999999999% sure!
June 21, 2008 at 3:33 pm
just reported, Pens have broken off talks with Hossa, and he’s UFA July 1st.
Any chance habs could land him if we don’t land Sundin? Gainey shoild get negotiating rights to him also.
June 21, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Stuo11, Sutter did want Tanguay gone as with the whole city of Calgary. He never fit in here and his talent went to waste, hence the trade.
June 21, 2008 at 3:59 pm
oh well, back to the sundin thingy. I wouldn’t give up any of the roster players we have except for guys that are leaving or players like Dandenault. just give them the 1st round pick for next year,Mikhail Grabovski and David fisher. don’t go after hossa because with all the teams after him we would have to pay him 10 Mill. I don’t want to be the team to do that!
June 21, 2008 at 3:59 pm
+ we wouldn’t have enough for him. Sundin will be about 6 Mill
June 21, 2008 at 4:56 pm
If Pitts can’t sign Hossa that was a very expensive rental, they gave up 4 good players.
June 21, 2008 at 6:12 pm
18 Big Dogg
habs line for next year( if sundin signs)
A. Kostitsyn – Sundin – Kovalev (new money line….woahhoo)
S. Kostitsyn – Koivu – Tanguay (better than most 1st line out there)
Higgins – Plekanec – Latendresse(decent 3rd line)
Begin – Lapierre – Chipchura(…)
AK46 – Plekanec – Kovalev (this is unchangeble at least for the time-being)
Higgins – Koivu – Tanguay (Higgins and Koivu are un-breakable)
Then Habs would have TWO top 10 NHL lineups.
If Sundin came, there would be another magic line
SK74 – Sundin – Tom Kostopoulos
Begin – Lapierre – whoever will work
June 21, 2008 at 10:01 pm
I don’t think Sundin would play the 3rd line anywhere.
June 21, 2008 at 10:38 pm
lets just anjoy this good old day and say haha look the leafs without sundin.look ate them they have no good captain if sundin leaves its gona become nhls worst team i tell you.soo ppl your telling ohh they put n. antropov to be captain he dozz not even have 60 points soo your left with a guy with only 57 points even the worst nhl teams has a scorer of 90 points at leest.leafs suck and thats that.mat you shal be welcome.
June 22, 2008 at 12:01 am
Anyway, stats will say who 1st line is!
2007-2008 season. In the beginning, Koivu line was called 1st line. Gradually, Ak-TK-AK line became the No. 1. Stats rule!
June 22, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Bob Gainey is going to talk person to person with Mats Sundin. He’s heading over to Sweden over the next three days. I think It’s a 50-50% chance!
June 22, 2008 at 1:08 pm
what about Plekanec, he used to play left wing in the AHL. imagine plekanec sundin and kovalev!:)
June 22, 2008 at 1:42 pm
TP-MS-AK, you’re right, that would be a potent line. Then you have AK46-Koivu- AT on the second line. Let’s just hope Sundin signs.
June 22, 2008 at 1:59 pm
but ummm we have 11 Mill left. Mikhail Grabovski, Josh Georges,Ryan O’Byrne,Patrice Bisebois,Andrei Kostitsyn,Mark Streit,Bryan Smolinski,Michael Ryder and Jaroslav Halak as unrestricted and restricted Free Agents!!!!! I predict Sundin to only get about 60 pts with us anyways! Streit is better than that and Kostitsyn will probably get close to 70 this upcoming year! If u can sign Sundin to like 5 or 6 Mill that’s fine.
June 22, 2008 at 2:16 pm
you’re joking, right? 5 mil for Sundin? we won’t sign for anything under 7 mil/season. And you would rather have Streit? Did you watch the playoffs, where Streit continously gave away the puck? C’mon now.We don’t need a defensive liability!
June 22, 2008 at 2:27 pm
“…Bob Gainey has a nine-day window to try and persuade Sundin to sign on with the Habs, and the Toronto Star reports that the Canadiens general manager will travel to Sweden this week for a one-on-one discussion…”
Sundin agreed BG’s travel to Sweden. This is highly possible…
June 22, 2008 at 2:47 pm
STU11. Mats Sundin had 78 points last year on a real bad leafs team and he also missed a few games due to injury. You think he will only get 60 points on a high powered offence team like montreal??????? You are kidding right? Sundin will get 80 to 90 points in montreal. No joke.
June 22, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Are we losing Higgins in this whole Sundin Deal?
http://www.thestar.com/Sports/Hockey/article/447363
June 22, 2008 at 5:56 pm
TSN is saying it will most likely only cost us a second round pick just to trade for his rights. It will be interesting though if both toronto and montreal both throw some other players into the mix though.
June 22, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I think getting Tanguay was a good decision. I’m interested to see if Montreal will take another shot at Hossa. I seem to remember reading something in which he said that he would take less money to go to a good team… I don’t what the heck that is supposed to mean but maybe money isn’t the issue? I don’t know…
coutNY – that’s the first I heard about the possibility of trading Higgins for Sundin. I had heard that getting Sundin migh involve a trade but I hadn’t heard anything about who might be traded. That would kind of be too bad if it was Higgins….
June 22, 2008 at 8:29 pm
I can see a multi player swap on the Sundin deal as well.Wouldn’t mind a big Russian forward from T.O.From the Habs you can offer Grabs,Streit,Ryder,Dandy and or Draft picks.
June 22, 2008 at 8:39 pm
I sincerely hope the Habs don’t need to give up a top-2 liner for the rights to have spoken and sign Sundin. That said, stop dreaming in technicolour!! If there is a back room deal, it will certainly not involve the rights to 2 guys (Ryder and Streit) who are UFAs next week anyway!!! Furthermore, I doubt the Laffs want Dandy with his hefty salary.
I have full trust in Bob, but am quite worried that Sundin would arrive with great hope and get injured within a month… at least don’t give up to much for a week’s worth of gabbing and a nice trip to Sweden!!
June 22, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Just checked the ‘rumours’ on tsn.ca (a fairly reliable source, compared to others): “While not confirmed, it’s suspected that the Maple Leafs will get a second-round pick in return for Sundin if a contract with the Canadiens can be reached.”
That’s better!
Higgins… sheeesh!!
June 22, 2008 at 11:00 pm
“but am quite worried that Sundin would arrive with great hope and get injured within a month…”
What is it with people like you ?
Some people just can’t be happy can they? I mean the guy is not even here yet and your all ready talking about him injured unreal.
June 23, 2008 at 12:20 am
If we don’t get Sundin I would love it if that maniac Sean Avery became a Hab.
June 23, 2008 at 3:07 am
“I have full trust in Bob, but am quite worried that Sundin would arrive with great hope and get injured within a month” — JackHab
What an utterly stupid thing to say! JackHab is a complete idiot.
June 23, 2008 at 3:15 am
How about Sundin centering the Kostitsyn boys? The Kostitsyns didn’t play together much last year, and I bet they would make a big impact playing with a Hall of Famer like Sundin. Happy Days are coming in Montreal.
June 23, 2008 at 8:12 am
if he did center them koivu kovalev tanguay=1st line
June 23, 2008 at 8:13 am
koivu is better with kovalev then pleks. hey we can have two 2nd lines taht way
June 23, 2008 at 8:14 am
that**
