Big Win

  • On the night they retired Ken Dryden’s #29, the Canadiens got a well deserved and much needed win against the Ottawa Senators.

Maybe the ceremony was a little long as the Canadiens stumbled out of the gate conceding a goal less than a minute in. Despite that mistake the Canadiens took control and set the pace of the game for much of the first period and then the remainder of the game.

Had Ray Emery not been so solid early the Canadiens could have put a few more goals on the board. To his credit David Abeischer played extremely well especially late in the third. It’s been a while since Abby put up a W and he looked relieved.

Carbonneau’s message was heard loud and clear and the Canadiens came out skating and playing hard. When the Habs are skating at full speed they give even the best teams a hard time at keeping pace.

Special teams were the story again, a powerplay goal and a shorty sandwiched around a great/lucky long pass to send Mark Streit in alone.

Yes Mark Streit. What a move. He shows glimpses of being a great hockey player and you know why Carbo and Gainey liked this guy so much they even created a spot on the 4th line for him.

Tomas Plekanec is on a bit of a goal scoring streak. It looks like he’s finally gained some confidence after a very slow start. It’s only good news if he becomes a consistent goal scorer.

Hard work pays off. Garth Murray dressed again after being put on waivers not too long ago. Did he bitch and moan? No he shut his mouth and worked hard in practices knowing he technically wasn’t even on the team anymore. And he earned another chance. It’s become clear if you work hard and put forth the effort every night Carbonneau will reward you.

So what is the difference between this team, the team that just beat Ottawa, Buffalo and Atlanta, and the team that gets embarrassed against a floundering Leafs team?

Who are the real Montreal Canadiens?

Which team are they going to enter the playoffs as?

I said IGNORE joshtm… just skip his posts, don’t even read them, consider them SPAM.
On a better note, maybe Gainey’s gonna sign Daniel Briere this summer, hmmmm?

  4. Snake: The habs need nothing but injured veterans to ensure they finish under .500 this year.
Pactum: Yes I agree, we can’t be having the likes of Crosby, Ovechkin, heck even Gretzky, young upstarts.
Habs#1: Indeed, the days of the dynasty are over, we’ll never ever get a cup again.
Snake: Yes we can support Gainey on sending down the prospects and trade them for players who’ll never score 6 goals in a seaon.
Pactum: We’d have to pay them millions.
Habs#1: Yes lets get rid of Souray, he’s too good, and Kovalev, maybe even Koivu.
Snake: Yes lets give Gainey breathing room so he can sign these broken down players.
Pactum: Yup the dynasty is over.
Habs#1: maybe even little Fluery and Lindros and perhaps Borje Salming can come out of retirement…

  5. I’m really wondering if U guy’s want a run for the cup this year? All U talk about is offseason trades. What if the habs gotta face the Leafs come playoffs??? Come on ,wakie wakie hands off snakie,F.F.S. U GUYS ARE BLOGGING LIKE A BUNCH OF EUROS WAITING FOR IT TO RAIN SO U CAN GET OUT OF YOUR PAPER BAGS! start WATCHING THE GAMES BETTER ,WILL YA ,FOCUS…GOOOOO HABS…

  6. Is it true that Snake, Smiler and Habs#1 and Pactum all see that same things that George W sees? The wonder of it all, oh no, the war in Iraq is going well, heck the habs are doing great, ya right as if.

When are you guys gonna stop denying and accept the fact that under Gainey the habs have struggled, will struggle and will never have muscle, never have talent and all their prospects will be traded away?

  7. One more thing,With George Gillete trying to buy an english league soccer team I hope he remembers the Habs play HOCKEY, THE FASTEST, TOUGHTEST,SKIL- TEASTING SPORT EVER.DON’T EVER MIX THOSE TO SPORTS UP GEORGE!!!

Nagy could be a Hab by the end of the week. Dont believe the Zherdev rumours.

Havent had a losing season yet with Gainey. He has vaulted us past many teams like the Leafs, Bruins, Rangers and Lightning. Have a little work to do on the Devils and Sabres. Although it looks like the cap will take care of teh Sabres.

What if he decides to fire Bib Gainey and appoint Joshtm as the G of the team?

I have a question for you Joshtm: What would you do the first week if you’d become the GM of the team tomorrow? Tell us or me what trades you would be down for?

  11. #12 Jack Tornton says:

    Bob Gainey

What if Bob Gainey appoints Joshtm as the GM of the team*(sorry for the mistakes)

  13. #14 PACTUM SERVA says:

I think the first thing bob would do would be to bend joshtm over and pull his head out of his ass

  14. #15 joshtm says:
    February 1, 2007 at 2:26 pm

He might not be able to do that cause Pactum, habs and Jack all are in Bob’s butt big time, Bob says you brown nosers should give him a rest cause he’s constipated now.

  15. #16 joshtm says:
    February 1, 2007 at 2:29 pm

I guess it doesn’t seem like Gainey is gonna resolve the slump this year or next.

    What’s that old song:
Jimmy popcorn and Bob don’t care
Jimmy popcorn and Guy don’t care
Jimmy popcorn and gillette don’t care

The habs are gonna be buttered…

  17. Josh why don’t you cheer for another team if you hate the Habs so much?

  18. #19 Jack Tornton says:

Now, you convinced me you’re not a Hab fan.

Proof 1: “He might not be able to do that cause Pactum, habs and Jack all are in Bob’s butt big time” So basically you stated that all Habs fans are in Bob Gainey’s butt insulting every Habs fan. How can you be a Hab fan if you insult the Habs fans? Lol! Give up on your game Joshtm.

Proof 2: The only things you said since you came to this site is insulting the coaching and management staff, and saying hw all Habs are broken down players. Go and get a life!

BTW your mother is describing you on the front page. Why don’t you a a little bit about it?

Hey Jack get off your mighty high horse, I was only mentioning three nasty bloggers on this site who have insulted anyone who disagrees with their point of view.

I have made a lot of positive comments about Habs players in fact I support the rookies, which is more than you lot do. It was a rookie Dryden in the early years that saved the franchise and brought a lot of cups. It was a slew of rookies in the Habs organization that have taken them out of their slumps. The Rocket in fact drove the last place habs to successive cups. Who are you bastards to think that rookies cannot once again be the heart and soul of the habs?

How dare you complain about fans who complain that the habs are lack lustre, their defense all but non-existant?
