Bring on Boston
-
The Canadiens welcome a team tonight they’ve beat 5 straight times this year. A team they’ve pretty much owned overall for the past few seasons.
Good news, right?
Well they happen to play on home ice tonight, where the Canadiens can’t seem to put together any kind of winning streak. The Habs have the fewest home wins in the entire NHL.
Despite beating the Bruins every game this year, they are only 3 points ahead of Boston. The Divisional ’4 point game’ cliche applies very much to tonight’s game.

- goalie : I can't type.... what a faux pas on my behalf...
- goalie : I just realized what I said adn didn't say yesterday. What a fayx as on my behalf. Regarding coaching Randy Cunnyworth MUSDT stay as an assistant- he deserves at least that after the tremendous job he did in the latter part of this past season. I'd still mlike to have Robinson, Carbo adn Allard on the staff also.
- Avatar37 : I agree Senet, my choice if we can't have Cunneyworth would be Crawford, Robinson on defense, Cunneyworth for offense, and Carbo as offense/faceoffs .
- Senet1 : I think if I had my choice it would be Crawford and see if he could get Carbo and Robinson as assistants. That would be my idea coaching team.
- goalie : I witnesed Marc Crawford MANY times when the Avs, etc. played against Oilers and let me tell you - he is constantly on the referees asses virtually game after game. He is the complete OPPOSITE of J. Martin. Crawford is calm on TSN but he is one excited coach behind the bench. A friend of mine who was an NHL linesman for 26 years said they dreaded Crawford he was so tough on the officials!
- goalie : You know, I've bee thinking about the coaching situation. I'd be really excited if the Habs had Hartley as head coach and Carbo adn Robinson as his assistants. I also read it somewhere about a month ago that Toronto's goalie coach Allard (?) wants to relocate back to Montreal where he has his goaltending school/business. Add him to the mix and I'd say the Habs would be in great shape coaching wise.
- Avatar37 : Well, from what I recall, Hartley didn't do all that well with the Thrashers. But, I don't know enough about him to judge one way or the other. Crawford I do know, and he always seemed to be a good, level headed coach to me.
- Senet1 : even Pacioretty two years ago did not impress any of us. Younger players have to play and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. If they sit in the press box they are learning nothing.
- Senet1 : Of course if he have some good assistants like a Larry Robinson to teach the young defence and someone like Carbo to teach faceoffs etc. then your coach does not have to be as good at teaching. If Hartley fits the bill you get no argument from me. My only previous point is that if he is impatient with your younger players to the point that he does not play them, then we are right back where we were with Martin. Martin was a good coach too, but how he handled Emelin, PK and even Pacioretty two
- goalie : I would like to see the Habs sign a coach who realizes that our team isn't tough enough (we need to get bigger and somewhat more nastier),the coach needs t be a great TEACHER and be a coach who can get the players to understand and buy into his system. Other than that I couldn't care what lingo he speaks. I wnat to see our team become a ligitimate contender fast!
- HabsLoseAgain : Well we dont know if he is or is not a teaching coach. I woukd just hate to paint Hartley something that he is not. There will always be questions but if Hartley was hired as the habs new bench boss i for one would not be overly upset.
- Senet1 : My thoughts are not that he is or is not a good coach but rather that when he won the cup he had an experience team of superstars on that team. Where as we have a group of young inexperienced players, is he a teaching coach or a tactical coach or both? I am not question whether he is a good coach, but my question therefore is he the coach for us at this point in the deveopment of our team?? Not sure we are all purely speculating at the moment?
- Senet1 : Something happened to my first post. I will try again.
- Senet1 : That is why I said I am not sure he is the coach for us at this time? Right now we are all speculating including yourself, because non of us know for sure?
- HabsLoseAgain : Crawford also won a cup with Patrick Roy so would you say he is a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best goaltenders of alltime?
- HabsLoseAgain : Senrt so please give me some reasons why you think Hartley is not the coach the habs need right now. What is it that you do not like about him or his coaching style?
- HabsLoseAgain : Well all great coaches had great players playing for them so i guess you you add a a pile of other coaches to that list including Bowan......
- Senet1 : Hartley, was he a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best altime goaltenders of all time. I am not sure that he is the type of coach that this organization needs right now. Unless of course we sign a ton of free agents.
- Avatar37 : However, my feelings may completely be wrong, Hartley may turn out to be a good fit.
- Avatar37 : I didn't say Hartley was unknown, I said we demoted a good coach in Cunneyworth and now have an unknown quantity because we don't have a coach. I don't have that great a feeling about Hartley, I'd be much more comfortable with Crawford.
- HabsLoseAgain : In my opinion i think he might be a good fit in montreal. Oh and he also likes to have a tough team.
- HabsLoseAgain : Also this year he coached the ZSC Lions to the swiss championship title.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol the so called "unknown" won a cup in 2000-2001 with the colarado avalanch.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol Bob Hartley is not an unknown lol.....sheesh.
- Senet1 : I think he has until the trading deadline to show us that he deserves to be on this team. If he does not get back on track then he could be simply a 2nd round draft pick to whoever we can trade him to.
- Avatar37 : Bourque reminds me of Pouliot, size, skill, and invisible. He needs to get back to playing a physical game and bang people around and maybe he'll start getting some of those garbage goals again. Need to get to the front of the net. I hope he can find his game again.
- Avatar37 : We had a good coach in Randy Cunneyworth. Now we have an unknown, with Bob Hartley rumoured to be the front runner. I'd rather have Cunneyworth.
- goalie : A player like Rene Bourwue has al the physical attributes of what would be a beter than average player. Hwever, he certainly didn't play that well especially after being in Montreal about three weeks. We NEED players like Rene to play hard AND produce points on a REGULAR BASIS in order for us to be competitive.
- Senet1 : MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a rocky start to his career as a Hab, but he’s planning on using the next four years to make up for it. After arriving in Montreal under less-than-ideal circumstances in January, Bourque spent the following 38 games hoping to find the spark he needed to rekindle his offensive production. Despite flanking Tomas Plekanec on the team’s second line to close out the season, the 30-year-old sniper suddenly found himself firing blanks in his new NHL home.
- Senet1 : I think we have to be patient and not expect too much too soon. Let's get a strong management team in place, make a good choices in the draft get a good coach and then see what we need at the free agent market. I will not be too disapointed if we miss the playoffs again next year if it means a long term team success. We have the opportunity to make some major strides over the next two years at the draft table. Then we fill in the holes.
- goalie : I certainly agree that we need to get some impact forwards who will sign for 5 years, not for a season then walk away. That's not going to help us.
- goalie : I wouldn't trade PK for Ovetchkin no matter what. He is a coach's NIGHTMARE and a poor team player.
- Senet1 : I believe he will as we graducally put better players around him and build this team.
- Senet1 : Goalie I agree with Avatar. PK is the present and future of this teams defence. I would not even take Staal from Pittsburg unless I had him tied up in a long term contract of a Minimum of 5 years. Also once has to consider the salary difference. Pk is on the move up probably 3M plus for his next contract and then eventually 4-5M if he keeps on improving. He has moved his game up two gears since he came into the league 2 years ago. He now has to move to the next level and I believe he will as w
- Avatar37 : pressure playing in Montreal, since he has problems with the expectations in Washington and Montreal isn't any easier. Then again, the media were very easy on Kovalev, so maybe it's a Russian thing? No idea. Anyway, yeah, it would have to be an established star that gives us an immediate drastic upgrade at forward, that's the only way I'd trade PK, because we'd be giving up a potential QB on our blueline for the next decade.

Dats right bring on da Big Bad Bruins. I’m in da mood fer bear. Fried up wit a bit of onions, some spices……..
I hope dat “Bigfoot” Chara gets his *** kicked tonight. He looks like an adult playing wit a bunch of peewees on the ice.
All the fans in Montreal should shout “Bigfoot” everytime he steps out onto the ice.
January 22, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I wouldn’t mind seeing Chara meet his match but I’m not sure any of the Habs could pull it off. Komisarak maybe, but Chara is a monster!
I’ve got high hopes for tonight’s game – let’s go Habs!
January 22, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Yeah we need to get guy’s injured fighting your 100% right !
January 22, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Well i think Coach Carbenau scratching Mathew Dandenault is the most stupid thing he has done to date Mathew put the Bruins to sleep last time. Now Mathew is not thinking about trade but hes pissed.
January 22, 2008 at 8:53 pm
I think you like everyone else should let the coach do his job and stop second guessing his everymove, its unreal how many arm chair coaches there are around here …
January 22, 2008 at 8:58 pm
The game had just started you jumped on here and started bashing the coach … hey idiot we are up 2 – 0 and its ten minutes in … guess the coach should be fired for his dumbest move ever right?
get a life ..

Good times! Wish I could see it, but alls I got is fuzzy CBC. Glad that Ryder got one and the Kostitsyn brothers are awesome.
As I write this I see that Lapierre scored with 2 seconds left! Sweet.
January 22, 2008 at 9:22 pm
That is the last we will we see of Mr. Auld this evening.
January 22, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Okay my #1 pet peeve, and this is not directed at you specifically habsofthefuture, but I’m sick of people who have their opinion criticized getting all shrill about ‘their right to express their own opinion’. No kidding! We all know that we can all express our own opinion, we live in a free country, but if your going to post here don’t get all pissy about people calling your idea stupid, because guess what? that’s THEIR OPINION! So go ahead and trash what I say, I trash what people say all the time, that’s what makes this a fan’s forum, and by the way let’s lighten up tonight, we’re whipping the BROOONS
January 22, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Yes we can all cry and complain all the time before the game even starts and trash the coach … yes your a true fan .. One of the biggest problems for this team is the constant crying and trashing by the media and so called fans, wow 6-1 yes fire the coach !! run him out of town !!!
January 22, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Holy s#!t we are getting spanked by y’all!!! Spanked! If I didn’t need to watch for a ex-pat Habs fan who is living across the pond; I would be curled up in the fetal position whimpering. Oh wait I am doing that right now…
January 22, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Wow, this is a $#%t Kicking! Love it. WIsh I was seeing it!
January 22, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Great game. It was nice to see So many players playing well, especially Ryder (it might get his market value up), Kovalev, A. Kostitsyn, Begin, Lapiere and Komisarek. I just hope this doesn’t get people thinking Ryder should stick around, it’s too late for a soon to be UFA. So, overall I was surprised how well they came out to start the game and that they played 60 minutes of hockey. The only negative for me was that even when the team played so great and everyone was flying, Koivu still seemed lost and disinterested.
January 23, 2008 at 12:54 am
The trouble is in a game with this result especially goals going in from everywhere and anywhere, you get this overjoyed rose coloured perspective…All of a sudden we are cup contenders…Whoa!!! this is the same team that didn’t put any effort vs the Rangers, Thrashers & Penguins, so while the win feels good, ensure the same effort will come out against stronger teams. Take the points just the same and move on to the next. Go Habs Go!
January 23, 2008 at 1:03 am
Listen Habs BRO’s, you want to see Koivu play with fire ,eh, well give he and Higgins a spark plug kind of player that’s consistent and watch what happens, just imagine The Habs with a real first line that produces like a first line should and the Kovi 2nd line the way it is and if Huet can just stay like the way he’s been the last couple of games, well…LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!
January 23, 2008 at 1:04 am
There is no trouble at all from a game like this .
Michael Ryder also scored for Montreal in the first as each of the Canadiens’ four lines contributed a goal against Alex Auld, who only stopped three of seven shots.
“I thought all four lines clicked well and played well and we worked hard and got some bounces,” Kostopoulos said. “It was nice to get everyone involved.”
Yep all 4 lines light the lamp in the first… fire that bum Carbo right now! And trade everybody or put them all on waivers !! Give them away for free !!
lol
January 23, 2008 at 1:33 am
Awesome game, I love seeing everyone come together like that!

sellanne
January 23, 2008 at 8:55 am
sellanne??????????
January 23, 2008 at 9:32 am
No way Selane will come to Montreal although it would be nice. But I think that Koivu will end up where Selane will go. As for Ryder, hopefully it brings up it’s Value, but he can’t stay in Montreal. I rather seing a Chipchura develloping in Montreal than a player showing up to the game once out of 6 games. One more power forward should do the trick, we have so many youngsters why not give Ryder and a first and second round pick for a star, I think Montreal can afford not having a first round pick for this year. Anyhow, in the end Go Habs Go…
January 23, 2008 at 11:03 am
Ah I love the smell of a burning bruin in the morning it smells of VICTORY.
January 23, 2008 at 12:10 pm
It’s nice to see that the leafs have an 80 year old as a GM.lol. I hope he starts having brain tumours during his next trade.LEAFS SUCK(5 more years not making it!)
January 23, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Stu Dude. That’s a bit harsh there. Don’t wish that on anyone Dude.
January 23, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I have only been able to watch bits and pieces of the last 5 – 6 games, (God I hate it
when life gets in the way of hockey! – lol) but I seem to see Carbo as more relaxed
behind the bench. Could it be that he is coming into his own as a coach, or am I
just not seeing enough of the games? Unfortunately, I did happen to catch most
of Huet’s gaffes. I still think he’s solid between the pipes – I just hope he stays there
more often – lol.
January 23, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Stay the course steady as she goes … keep eyes open for rogue trade if possible, no need to panic here, Carbo is gaining experience just like the young guns we have on the ice, We were not even supposed to be in the top ten but for now we are holding our own, its always close in the east and its not over yet. Making trades in todays NHL is no easy feat… but I get the feeling someing is on way …
January 23, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Atta boy Guy…..Ryder back with Koivu and Higgins. Now don’t go panicking if they don’t score next game against the Devs and end up benching Ryder again, or sticking him on the 4th line with limited ice time.
Leave this line alone and let em get their groove back from last year, and they will contribute and help out Kovy/Plek/Kost line with some goals of their own. Good to see Ryder getting some PP time again too….seeing how 18 or 20 of his goals last year came with the man advantage. Our boys are playing well, keep on rolling…..Ottawa and first place in the conference are only 6 pts away with a home-n-home coming up next month, and Ottawa’s big 3 have ailments. I think they can beat the Sens now with the way we’re playing. Can ya feel it fellow Hab patrions? Woohoo….GO HABS GO !!!
January 23, 2008 at 4:34 pm
If the Lines would have to change again I would try this. Koivu/and the 2 Kostisyn’s. Plakanex/Kovalev/Higgins. Latendresse/Lapierre/Ryder. And whom ever is in the line up on the 4th line. That would be the best that I can see. The 2 brothers are amazing together. And Higgings would produce again with Kovalev and Thomas.
January 23, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I agree(but what about sellanne for 1-year 2.5 mill?)
January 23, 2008 at 5:31 pm
The money probably ain’t an issues, but I seriously doubt that he would come to Montreal.
January 23, 2008 at 5:48 pm
But Sakic brought Smyth to colorado didn’t he? Why can’t Koivu do that? They are close buddies.

“DID U KNOW”
That The hammer(5.5mill) is the second highest paid guy on our team Next to Markov(5.75),did u know Brian(2mill) slowlinski makes more than Thomas Plekanec(1.4Mill) because i didnt.LOL Did u know that kyle Chipchura makes twice as much as Maxim lapiere, a hundred thousand more than Carey Price and three hundred thousand more than Andrei Kostityn.I had no idea that these guys were getting paid this much to play average hockey.Exempt Markov and Plekanec they set the level of hockey MONTREAL should be playing all the time.
GO HABS GO KICK PITSBURG BUT
PS:Daryl Sutter GM of the flames is at tonights game.

Weird…
January 23, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Cuz It’s Montreal don’t forget. Unfortunatly, the 2 mil here ain’t the same as the 2 mil in Colorado.
But I’ve got to say that it would be very nice.
January 23, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Donnie, Carbo was more than patient enough with Ryder. He was on one of the top two units most of the time that he was playing like ****. I hope Ryder plays great now too, but he won’t re-sign in Montreal, so his time in Montreal should end before the trade deadline.
January 23, 2008 at 8:16 pm
That is true but then just the 4mill we offered Souray:( Man I miss Shelly:(
January 23, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Why do you miss Shelly, he’s doing nothing in Edmonton but being injure and cashing out is pay checks.
January 23, 2008 at 11:57 pm
Ben’s got a point. Even the Edmonton media who consistently kiss KLowe’s *** and think everything he does is gold are admitting that Souray’s been a bust and a joke this season.
January 24, 2008 at 8:21 am
If he was with us he would be awesome
January 24, 2008 at 9:51 am
WE’ll I much rather Hamerlik over Souray, specially that now we can count on the rest of the team to score in powerplay. Just imagine all the Turn Overs in our zone if you had Sheldon and Brisbois together. Holly s… lol we’d be in big trouble.
January 24, 2008 at 12:17 pm
I agree Barrie. I can’t see Ryder signing here again next year. The only reason, my guess is, that he’s back on that line is to showcase him to other teams to try and get something for him before the deadline. It’s a shame too….I like Ryder.
The point I was making was the amount of time he’s getting as compared to Koivu. Koivu’s not playing like **** ? This is the most uneffective I have ever seen him play. He’s invisible every game, not producing any points, and is a nonfactor almost every game….yet, he still gets all this time. As a matter of fact, Koivu is still playing like **** while getting all the advantages of playing with top players, and getting PP and PK time….Ryder has been doing it for half the season so far on a bottom line, playing with no one, or sitting in the pressbox with no where close to the special teams time the captain is getting.
Ryder is playing like ****, but everfyone seems to forget how much of a let down Koivu’s been also. I want Ryder to get traded and hope our Habs get someone to really help this squad while letting Ryder blossom somewhere else…this guys career is far from over…with the right centerman he’s got more than 30 a year in his stick.
I also like Koivu, but its time to be realistic and call a spade a spade. He’s really not helping the effort on the ice, moreso this year than other years. How about sticking him on the fourth line with Smolinski and see if he’s got enough skills to help out defensively, cuz offensively he’s not up to the challenge no matter what amount of ice-time he’s getting or who he’s playing with.
On another note…we got Jersey tonight. Gotta solve the Brodeur puzzle tonight. Those are big points up for grabs, and they’re only getting bigger as the season goes on. Lets go boys, pull together, make out its Boston we’re playing here, and bury the Devs. GO HABS GO !!!
January 24, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Let Komisarek run Marty over..then send Higgins in too..Jersey is gonna run Huet for sure…another fine prediction from the “HABMAN”..were gonna get creamed anyway…4 to 2 for Jersey!
