The Chicago Blackhawks make a rare visit tonight to Montreal where the Canadiens hope to start improving their record at home.
The injury riddled Blackhawks are without several players, most notably Jonathan Toews. It shows as they have lost 5 straight. On paper this should be an easy home win for the Habs to put in the bank.
Carey Price is apparently sick and Jaroslav Halak will warm the bench tonight.
Andrei Markov has finally been given some recognition and been nominated to the All-Star team. Much deserved.
On the other side of the spectrum, someone who has been missing for most of the recent Canadiens success makes a return tonight. For reasons unknown.

Return to glory.

- goalie : I don't know when they'll announce it but the Oilers will be signing Sutter (Flames ex-coach) to coach their team - that's why Kevin Lowe chose him to coach in the World's. That was the world's worst kept secret.
- Senet1 : I guess I wish we could get it done so all the speculating was over and we can get to building out team.
- goalie : I can't type.... what a faux pas on my behalf...
- goalie : I just realized what I said adn didn't say yesterday. What a fayx as on my behalf. Regarding coaching Randy Cunnyworth MUSDT stay as an assistant- he deserves at least that after the tremendous job he did in the latter part of this past season. I'd still mlike to have Robinson, Carbo adn Allard on the staff also.
- Avatar37 : I agree Senet, my choice if we can't have Cunneyworth would be Crawford, Robinson on defense, Cunneyworth for offense, and Carbo as offense/faceoffs .
- Senet1 : I think if I had my choice it would be Crawford and see if he could get Carbo and Robinson as assistants. That would be my idea coaching team.
- goalie : I witnesed Marc Crawford MANY times when the Avs, etc. played against Oilers and let me tell you - he is constantly on the referees asses virtually game after game. He is the complete OPPOSITE of J. Martin. Crawford is calm on TSN but he is one excited coach behind the bench. A friend of mine who was an NHL linesman for 26 years said they dreaded Crawford he was so tough on the officials!
- goalie : You know, I've bee thinking about the coaching situation. I'd be really excited if the Habs had Hartley as head coach and Carbo adn Robinson as his assistants. I also read it somewhere about a month ago that Toronto's goalie coach Allard (?) wants to relocate back to Montreal where he has his goaltending school/business. Add him to the mix and I'd say the Habs would be in great shape coaching wise.
- Avatar37 : Well, from what I recall, Hartley didn't do all that well with the Thrashers. But, I don't know enough about him to judge one way or the other. Crawford I do know, and he always seemed to be a good, level headed coach to me.
- Senet1 : even Pacioretty two years ago did not impress any of us. Younger players have to play and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. If they sit in the press box they are learning nothing.
- Senet1 : Of course if he have some good assistants like a Larry Robinson to teach the young defence and someone like Carbo to teach faceoffs etc. then your coach does not have to be as good at teaching. If Hartley fits the bill you get no argument from me. My only previous point is that if he is impatient with your younger players to the point that he does not play them, then we are right back where we were with Martin. Martin was a good coach too, but how he handled Emelin, PK and even Pacioretty two
- goalie : I would like to see the Habs sign a coach who realizes that our team isn't tough enough (we need to get bigger and somewhat more nastier),the coach needs t be a great TEACHER and be a coach who can get the players to understand and buy into his system. Other than that I couldn't care what lingo he speaks. I wnat to see our team become a ligitimate contender fast!
- HabsLoseAgain : Well we dont know if he is or is not a teaching coach. I woukd just hate to paint Hartley something that he is not. There will always be questions but if Hartley was hired as the habs new bench boss i for one would not be overly upset.
- Senet1 : My thoughts are not that he is or is not a good coach but rather that when he won the cup he had an experience team of superstars on that team. Where as we have a group of young inexperienced players, is he a teaching coach or a tactical coach or both? I am not question whether he is a good coach, but my question therefore is he the coach for us at this point in the deveopment of our team?? Not sure we are all purely speculating at the moment?
- Senet1 : Something happened to my first post. I will try again.
- Senet1 : That is why I said I am not sure he is the coach for us at this time? Right now we are all speculating including yourself, because non of us know for sure?
- HabsLoseAgain : Crawford also won a cup with Patrick Roy so would you say he is a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best goaltenders of alltime?
- HabsLoseAgain : Senrt so please give me some reasons why you think Hartley is not the coach the habs need right now. What is it that you do not like about him or his coaching style?
- HabsLoseAgain : Well all great coaches had great players playing for them so i guess you you add a a pile of other coaches to that list including Bowan......
- Senet1 : Hartley, was he a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best altime goaltenders of all time. I am not sure that he is the type of coach that this organization needs right now. Unless of course we sign a ton of free agents.
- Avatar37 : However, my feelings may completely be wrong, Hartley may turn out to be a good fit.
- Avatar37 : I didn't say Hartley was unknown, I said we demoted a good coach in Cunneyworth and now have an unknown quantity because we don't have a coach. I don't have that great a feeling about Hartley, I'd be much more comfortable with Crawford.
- HabsLoseAgain : In my opinion i think he might be a good fit in montreal. Oh and he also likes to have a tough team.
- HabsLoseAgain : Also this year he coached the ZSC Lions to the swiss championship title.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol the so called "unknown" won a cup in 2000-2001 with the colarado avalanch.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol Bob Hartley is not an unknown lol.....sheesh.
- Senet1 : I think he has until the trading deadline to show us that he deserves to be on this team. If he does not get back on track then he could be simply a 2nd round draft pick to whoever we can trade him to.
- Avatar37 : Bourque reminds me of Pouliot, size, skill, and invisible. He needs to get back to playing a physical game and bang people around and maybe he'll start getting some of those garbage goals again. Need to get to the front of the net. I hope he can find his game again.
- Avatar37 : We had a good coach in Randy Cunneyworth. Now we have an unknown, with Bob Hartley rumoured to be the front runner. I'd rather have Cunneyworth.
- goalie : A player like Rene Bourwue has al the physical attributes of what would be a beter than average player. Hwever, he certainly didn't play that well especially after being in Montreal about three weeks. We NEED players like Rene to play hard AND produce points on a REGULAR BASIS in order for us to be competitive.
- Senet1 : MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a rocky start to his career as a Hab, but he’s planning on using the next four years to make up for it. After arriving in Montreal under less-than-ideal circumstances in January, Bourque spent the following 38 games hoping to find the spark he needed to rekindle his offensive production. Despite flanking Tomas Plekanec on the team’s second line to close out the season, the 30-year-old sniper suddenly found himself firing blanks in his new NHL home.
- Senet1 : I think we have to be patient and not expect too much too soon. Let's get a strong management team in place, make a good choices in the draft get a good coach and then see what we need at the free agent market. I will not be too disapointed if we miss the playoffs again next year if it means a long term team success. We have the opportunity to make some major strides over the next two years at the draft table. Then we fill in the holes.
- goalie : I certainly agree that we need to get some impact forwards who will sign for 5 years, not for a season then walk away. That's not going to help us.
- goalie : I wouldn't trade PK for Ovetchkin no matter what. He is a coach's NIGHTMARE and a poor team player.
- Senet1 : I believe he will as we graducally put better players around him and build this team.

Home game, I don’t think we can call it easy. Since I think we all noticed that the habs usually find a way to make it hard on them selfs. Price, is sick or is going back to Hamilton ? I’ve got a question for all of you ! Remember Theodore when he came to Montreal, I think he was good, and then we start saying that he would be down on his knees to fast and started letting more goals in. Same thing happened to Thibault. And I remember last year that the word was practically shoot high on Huet… Pretty interesting to see that when Carey started the season, he was strongher and would be standing most of the time. And now, he seems a little more uncertain and is doing more and more the famous butterfly style. I’m actually starting to wonder if the goalies are the problem. Just as a note, the 4 mentionned goalies above all had one thing in common … Can you see it ?
January 8, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Rollie Melanson, their goaltending coach?
January 8, 2008 at 4:37 pm
Price and Chipchura down to Hamilton…
Halak and Locke up with the big boys…
Habs2010… don’t you read hockey reviews? Thought you were on the ball here
I’d say there is a double meaning on this: One – get Price some back to back games and getting him stopping pucks again; Two – A Halak showcase for trade bait, he has made it clear he wants to play in the NHL and wants to be shipped.
PS – there is a ceremony before the game tonight for the original 6 showcase the Habs have been doing this season like they did before the Detroit game.
January 8, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Yup, maybe Melancon is the actual problem. BigTime, I agree with you for price and Halak, it would probably do some good for him. But whats the explanation for Chipchura ?
January 8, 2008 at 5:22 pm
I’m feeling more confident in those moves by Gainey…bring on the SENS,DEVS,STARS,WINGS,DUCKS,CANACKS etc…lol,I am happy for Cory but…MY HEAD SPINS 360 DEGREES AS THE PEA SOUP FLIES OUT OF MY IN DISBELIEFED MOUTH.Maybe we should swap G.M’s and coaches with the Bulldog’s too?Look,I do know this fosure, with the Hawks down 8 members ,we better win IMFIO.
January 8, 2008 at 5:40 pm
I think it was probably time for Price to go to Hamilton. He wasn’t playing enough here. Maybe he should have started the season in Hamilton. Hope it doesn’t ruin his young career, like it did to Marc Andre Fleury.
I guess Chipchura can’t win faceoffs? Is Perreault or Stoll being traded here?
time will tell.
January 8, 2008 at 6:11 pm
I don’t like seeing Price go but he does need to play. Maybe keep him in Hamilton for a couple of months, bring him up towards the end of the season and have him back Huet up on our run to the Cup. Huet leaves in the summer as a UFA, Price takes over the number one spot and Halak backs him up next season
January 8, 2008 at 6:47 pm
I think Halak is being showcased as trade bait. On the other hand, Price does need to play and right now he’s not getting the playing time in Montreal. So let all us Habs fans hope this demotion for Price is a good thing.
January 8, 2008 at 6:58 pm
I can say that Carey Price hasent’t been playing his best hockey lately, easy goals and stupid mistakes have been a common thing in the past few weeks for Price, but we can’t blame the guy, can you imagine beeing 20 years old and playing for the CANADIENS, big load on the kid’s shoulders for his first NHL season, he’s good, but in a few years, he will one of the best number 1 goalies in the league, I see him in a habs uniform for a long time. How about Chipchura??? why Hamilton??? He’s not winning the faceoffs maybe, but he’s one of the best players against the boards, he is calm, composed and very smart in his plays, rarely we saw mistakes from his part. What the Canadiens need to do in matter of fact is to finally get rid of KOIVU and get a REAL CAPTAIN…or else, we will never see the CUP in Montreal.
January 8, 2008 at 7:07 pm
well, after Saturdays game, I’m not surprised. Price let in 3 goals that an NHL goalie CANNOT let in. Bye bye Price, do a stint in Hamilton, come back when you’re ready to be a NHL backup.
Chipchura going down is bull though, he’s been a steady defensive forward, but I don’t see him being down there for the rest of the season.
Do remember though, at the start of the season, Gainey did say that some of the guys up here now, may being going down to the minors, and some guys in the minors may be coming up to the big club, because they are not exposed to waivers. Makes sense he would do this at the midway point of the season.
January 8, 2008 at 7:11 pm
All you guys have great thoughts. I really think It’s possible for a trade to be coming. remember the trade deadline is in Febuary!
January 8, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Huet should have been sent to Hamilton, instead of Price!!!!
January 8, 2008 at 10:29 pm
HabsPal, you’re going to tell me that the first 3 goals so far let in by Huet are great goals, sorry, but I am totally willing to live with a Rookie goalie letting in ***** goals than a supposively Number 1 Goalie. Anyhow, lets see how this game ends…
January 8, 2008 at 11:31 pm
If the game had gone to a shootout-habs lose for sure! Huet is pathetic@ even Pierre Maguire said Huet should have stopped 2 goals. We better hope we don’t play Toronto, because we all know Huet can’t beat them.
January 8, 2008 at 11:37 pm
habs2010/judy.grantseeker@gmail.com you sound a lot like Chevy aka habwhatever and his other 15 Hab_______ names…No one wants to hear your constant whining so say something constructive once in awhile or I’ll assume your Chevy’s old lady.
January 8, 2008 at 11:39 pm
A pretty good all-around game tonight and a much needed home win. Breezer looked great in his first game back!
January 8, 2008 at 11:50 pm
LOL @ the blog … oh look we won at home nice ! Price needs to play and there are guys coming back so we will see some players being moved around , no big deal, Huet is not going anywhere he will be resigned, they should offer him a deal right now … and a few others also, there is some talk that the Habs might break with the traditon of not signing during the year and offer out a few contracts. I say they should do the same and show some of the players we want them here and it can help for motivation.
January 9, 2008 at 12:10 am
LOL way to tell him HB HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
January 9, 2008 at 12:37 am
Why is everyone so down on the habs? They’re in good shape. Go habs go!
January 9, 2008 at 12:53 am
Anyone got any cheap habs tickets for sale? ok if high up, but between the blue lines? I really want to go to a game.
January 9, 2008 at 1:50 am
all you guys do is complain trade that guy trade this guy everyone wants change why? we are doing good now so lets keep this team!
January 9, 2008 at 2:19 am
and for the people who say Huet should be sent down he hasen’t lost in regulation for 8 games.
January 9, 2008 at 10:06 am
Jessef, don’t go telling me he hasn’t lost in 8 regualation games, please. The only reason he hasn’t lost is that Montreal, Played Chicago, Tampa twice, Florida. Montreal as been scoring 3 goals or more for the past 6 games, that helpds him big time, cuz stupid goals against Ottawa, Detroit or others will loose you the game. Look at the full stats before answering.
January 9, 2008 at 10:30 am
Well said Habs Blog…
“If the game had gone to a shootout-habs lose for sure! ” Habs2010…
This guy would complain about the size of really big cheque if he won the lottery… we won dummy~
(also questioning he is a guy at all anymore, so I’ll change that to “13 year old kid”, or maybe a Sportsnet watcher who all cheer for the leafs and think Glen Healy & Nick Kipreos are gods)
January 9, 2008 at 11:03 am
Maybe instead of complaining about the Huet, Price and all we should complain about Melancon. He’s the biggest problem in the team.
January 9, 2008 at 1:21 pm
And what proof do we have that the problem is Melancon? You guys just cant be happy eh, you need to pick and fiddle and complain and whine and cry all season. I could understand if we were dead last but we are not, and we should make the playoff’s if we continue to play like we are now, this team is yound and has some great promise, we need one or maybe two players and we could make a serious run at the cup. Huet is one of the better goalies in the leaugue and Price will be one of the best in a short time. I for one like the way the Habs have come along this year and hope to see more in the near future.
GO HABS GO!!
and GO AWAY HABS2010 GO AWAY !!! and all the other cry babies
January 9, 2008 at 1:34 pm
“IF” your Aunt had nuts she would be your Uncle…………
January 9, 2008 at 4:34 pm
yeah jeez. I bet if the habs were in 1st place Habs2010 would still be complaining! The habs havent been that bad of late but I do agree with one thing.Huet sucks against toronto, and so what! Halak has beaten them before. I’m very confident right now. Unless they lose the the big bad Bruins lol whcich would be sad. GO HABS GO!!!
January 9, 2008 at 6:37 pm
we have the bruins number, the same way NJ, Car, and Buff have ours.
January 9, 2008 at 7:00 pm
for those over the age of 40, watching the pre game ceremony before last night’s game, was awesome. Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita,Denis Savard, Guy Lafleur, ken Dryden, Yvan Cournoyer,Henri Richard. That’s what it’s all about.
Those players were simply unbelievably awesome!
January 9, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Who is crying, stop acting smart, all we are doing is give are opinion and to me, all goaltenders that pass in Montreal are good and start having the same problem and get on their knees too fast and quite honestly, I rather seing a 20 year old rookie giving up retarded goals than Huet giving at least 1 per game. Like it or not, Huet as maximum 3 years left in the NHL and beleive me, Huet won’t bring Montreal to the Stanley cup and I don’t think that Price will either. We need some natural scorers and Huet might be good money for a trade so hope they do it if it’s the case cuz or else we will loosing for nothing more than memories.
January 10, 2008 at 10:25 am
Well I guess you know better that Scotty Bowmen cause he says Price will lead the habs to the cup.
January 10, 2008 at 11:16 am
Wow, the cup that would be nice, but we would need a few more elements to score goals and maybe they would have a chance.
January 10, 2008 at 1:14 pm
What a bunch of wankers over there in the Habs Insideout Blog.
There are a select few who run the joint. They pounce on eveybody who don’t agree with them.
You guys have room for a big ole DOG……

January 10, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I was under cover over there …LOL…..
I thought that they were bad in here….
There’s no place like home………
January 10, 2008 at 4:45 pm
BUT I love to get under their skin though………
January 10, 2008 at 4:51 pm
lol… Habs inside out is just that…and ran mostly by a young middle eastern girl from what I can tell.. oh well… There a few good things learned here, and when you live outside on Montreal, it’s great to get the inside scoop with whats up daily~
Heard today (rumor) that the Habs may be looking at Stoll from the Oilers… I say no thanks… Perrault from Chicago is the face off man to acquire… why do teams keep getting rid of him? He’s unreal with the faceoffs (but does use a blade on his stick similar to size of the blade on a goalie stick…probably why he isn’t getting the points)
