Cristobal Huet gets the Call

  • Cristobal ‘the Crystal Wall’.
    Hip Hip Huet.

Whatever you call him, he’s your starting goalie for the Montreal Canadiens 2006 Playoff run.

    Rightfully so.

After all the goaltending controversy and ups and downs this year Cristobal Huet came in and turned the team around single handedly. His cool calm compure and playing style inspired confidence among all his teammates and turned a sub-par golf course bound team into a 7th place finish and a playoff birth.

What he can do in the playoffs remains to be seen but nothing indicates he won’t be able to play the same way. I don’t see Huet getting ‘rattled’ or thrown off his game in any kind of way because it’s the playoffs. I don’t see him cracking under pressure but rather relishing in the oppurtunity to be the main guy for the Canadiens chances. How is he going to feel coming onto the ice on Wednesday night to 21 thousand+ hockey mental fans?

All the playoff predictions are in and other than some french media the consensus is on Carolina as the winner. Numbers, odds, regular season records are what people are basing this on. Look where those ‘expert’ pre-season predictions ended up. The Canes weren’t even supposed to be in the playoffs much less 1 point shy of the Conference title. Were the predictions correct? Not even close. Are the new playoff predictions correct?

    Hmm.

  1. Should’ve started Aebischer. :-)

On a related note, Carolina has a goaltending problem.

  2. Huet is the real pearl of Habs.
Todays game with NC Hurricanes is the proof.
If it were Jose in the net, the score could be 6-1 but in favour of Hurricanes.

PS: Keep Aebischer on a bench.

  4. I’m really impressed with the way Huet kept his composure in this game, especially the after quick Carolina goal… which WAS NOT Souray’s fault (the linesman bumped into him).

The Habs can thank the hockey gods for Cristobal Huet. He’s already inside the Hurricanes’ heads a bit. And if Montreal were to manage to steal Game 2, well… ;-) .

  5. ‘the after’

    Right.

  6. WOW …. go habs go ….

    The Canandiens played it perfect….

If Carolina cannot fix their goaltending problems this series is going to be over very fast….

Cannot wait to see what happens on Monday.

  7. Nice to give back what carolina gave us this season. BUT it’s not over yet. The previous season games are never a good judge because we had key injuries at the time, and our own goaltending problems.Joey you are right unless Carolina can fix their goaltending problems they are toast.Another point it would be nice for the Habs to stick to the so called experts.

I am very impressed with Huet… that reminded me of how Patrick Roy used to play on that game Saturday…. When the habs have good goaltending, they go far… I remember watching the 1993 playoffs when I was only 7 and it was when I started really watching hockey…. I think if the habs win Game 2 they will have a really good chance to win the series especially if they play home Game 3 and Game 4… it will be very interesting to watch

Cristobal Huet is an awsome goalie…. Montreal had a lot of good goalies over the years and they will keep it that way…. Huet will be a new era for good goaltending
