Duck Hunt

The last and probably hardest game the Canadiens will play on their road trip.
Anaheim’s size and strength against speed and skill of the Habs.
Another win tonight would give the Habs a respectable 6 of 8 road points and keep them right in the hunt for 1st in the East.

- goalie : I can't type.... what a faux pas on my behalf...
- goalie : I just realized what I said adn didn't say yesterday. What a fayx as on my behalf. Regarding coaching Randy Cunnyworth MUSDT stay as an assistant- he deserves at least that after the tremendous job he did in the latter part of this past season. I'd still mlike to have Robinson, Carbo adn Allard on the staff also.
- Avatar37 : I agree Senet, my choice if we can't have Cunneyworth would be Crawford, Robinson on defense, Cunneyworth for offense, and Carbo as offense/faceoffs .
- Senet1 : I think if I had my choice it would be Crawford and see if he could get Carbo and Robinson as assistants. That would be my idea coaching team.
- goalie : I witnesed Marc Crawford MANY times when the Avs, etc. played against Oilers and let me tell you - he is constantly on the referees asses virtually game after game. He is the complete OPPOSITE of J. Martin. Crawford is calm on TSN but he is one excited coach behind the bench. A friend of mine who was an NHL linesman for 26 years said they dreaded Crawford he was so tough on the officials!
- goalie : You know, I've bee thinking about the coaching situation. I'd be really excited if the Habs had Hartley as head coach and Carbo adn Robinson as his assistants. I also read it somewhere about a month ago that Toronto's goalie coach Allard (?) wants to relocate back to Montreal where he has his goaltending school/business. Add him to the mix and I'd say the Habs would be in great shape coaching wise.
- Avatar37 : Well, from what I recall, Hartley didn't do all that well with the Thrashers. But, I don't know enough about him to judge one way or the other. Crawford I do know, and he always seemed to be a good, level headed coach to me.
- Senet1 : even Pacioretty two years ago did not impress any of us. Younger players have to play and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. If they sit in the press box they are learning nothing.
- Senet1 : Of course if he have some good assistants like a Larry Robinson to teach the young defence and someone like Carbo to teach faceoffs etc. then your coach does not have to be as good at teaching. If Hartley fits the bill you get no argument from me. My only previous point is that if he is impatient with your younger players to the point that he does not play them, then we are right back where we were with Martin. Martin was a good coach too, but how he handled Emelin, PK and even Pacioretty two
- goalie : I would like to see the Habs sign a coach who realizes that our team isn't tough enough (we need to get bigger and somewhat more nastier),the coach needs t be a great TEACHER and be a coach who can get the players to understand and buy into his system. Other than that I couldn't care what lingo he speaks. I wnat to see our team become a ligitimate contender fast!
- HabsLoseAgain : Well we dont know if he is or is not a teaching coach. I woukd just hate to paint Hartley something that he is not. There will always be questions but if Hartley was hired as the habs new bench boss i for one would not be overly upset.
- Senet1 : My thoughts are not that he is or is not a good coach but rather that when he won the cup he had an experience team of superstars on that team. Where as we have a group of young inexperienced players, is he a teaching coach or a tactical coach or both? I am not question whether he is a good coach, but my question therefore is he the coach for us at this point in the deveopment of our team?? Not sure we are all purely speculating at the moment?
- Senet1 : Something happened to my first post. I will try again.
- Senet1 : That is why I said I am not sure he is the coach for us at this time? Right now we are all speculating including yourself, because non of us know for sure?
- HabsLoseAgain : Crawford also won a cup with Patrick Roy so would you say he is a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best goaltenders of alltime?
- HabsLoseAgain : Senrt so please give me some reasons why you think Hartley is not the coach the habs need right now. What is it that you do not like about him or his coaching style?
- HabsLoseAgain : Well all great coaches had great players playing for them so i guess you you add a a pile of other coaches to that list including Bowan......
- Senet1 : Hartley, was he a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best altime goaltenders of all time. I am not sure that he is the type of coach that this organization needs right now. Unless of course we sign a ton of free agents.
- Avatar37 : However, my feelings may completely be wrong, Hartley may turn out to be a good fit.
- Avatar37 : I didn't say Hartley was unknown, I said we demoted a good coach in Cunneyworth and now have an unknown quantity because we don't have a coach. I don't have that great a feeling about Hartley, I'd be much more comfortable with Crawford.
- HabsLoseAgain : In my opinion i think he might be a good fit in montreal. Oh and he also likes to have a tough team.
- HabsLoseAgain : Also this year he coached the ZSC Lions to the swiss championship title.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol the so called "unknown" won a cup in 2000-2001 with the colarado avalanch.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol Bob Hartley is not an unknown lol.....sheesh.
- Senet1 : I think he has until the trading deadline to show us that he deserves to be on this team. If he does not get back on track then he could be simply a 2nd round draft pick to whoever we can trade him to.
- Avatar37 : Bourque reminds me of Pouliot, size, skill, and invisible. He needs to get back to playing a physical game and bang people around and maybe he'll start getting some of those garbage goals again. Need to get to the front of the net. I hope he can find his game again.
- Avatar37 : We had a good coach in Randy Cunneyworth. Now we have an unknown, with Bob Hartley rumoured to be the front runner. I'd rather have Cunneyworth.
- goalie : A player like Rene Bourwue has al the physical attributes of what would be a beter than average player. Hwever, he certainly didn't play that well especially after being in Montreal about three weeks. We NEED players like Rene to play hard AND produce points on a REGULAR BASIS in order for us to be competitive.
- Senet1 : MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a rocky start to his career as a Hab, but he’s planning on using the next four years to make up for it. After arriving in Montreal under less-than-ideal circumstances in January, Bourque spent the following 38 games hoping to find the spark he needed to rekindle his offensive production. Despite flanking Tomas Plekanec on the team’s second line to close out the season, the 30-year-old sniper suddenly found himself firing blanks in his new NHL home.
- Senet1 : I think we have to be patient and not expect too much too soon. Let's get a strong management team in place, make a good choices in the draft get a good coach and then see what we need at the free agent market. I will not be too disapointed if we miss the playoffs again next year if it means a long term team success. We have the opportunity to make some major strides over the next two years at the draft table. Then we fill in the holes.
- goalie : I certainly agree that we need to get some impact forwards who will sign for 5 years, not for a season then walk away. That's not going to help us.
- goalie : I wouldn't trade PK for Ovetchkin no matter what. He is a coach's NIGHTMARE and a poor team player.
- Senet1 : I believe he will as we graducally put better players around him and build this team.
- Senet1 : Goalie I agree with Avatar. PK is the present and future of this teams defence. I would not even take Staal from Pittsburg unless I had him tied up in a long term contract of a Minimum of 5 years. Also once has to consider the salary difference. Pk is on the move up probably 3M plus for his next contract and then eventually 4-5M if he keeps on improving. He has moved his game up two gears since he came into the league 2 years ago. He now has to move to the next level and I believe he will as w
- Avatar37 : pressure playing in Montreal, since he has problems with the expectations in Washington and Montreal isn't any easier. Then again, the media were very easy on Kovalev, so maybe it's a Russian thing? No idea. Anyway, yeah, it would have to be an established star that gives us an immediate drastic upgrade at forward, that's the only way I'd trade PK, because we'd be giving up a potential QB on our blueline for the next decade.

If the Habs pull this off they’ll have soooo much confidence!
March 9, 2008 at 4:41 pm
I don’t know how people equate size and strenght =lack of speed? If anything it should make you faster.
March 9, 2008 at 4:50 pm
If we win tonite,we will WIN THE CUP THIS YEAR!
March 9, 2008 at 6:28 pm
I heard Plekanec is out for tonight’s game. Doesn’t look good for the habs.
March 9, 2008 at 6:41 pm
official that Plekanec and O’Byrne out for tonight’s game. Pleks has the flu, but O’byrne is a healthy scratch? what gives. We need as many big D men in the lineup as possible. That means Brisecrap is in. Can you spell BIG LOSS?
March 9, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Montreal is in trouble here.Way to many penalties
March 9, 2008 at 9:41 pm
price looks confident though
March 9, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Can you spell 1-1 going into the 3rd … seems our couch coaches were wrong again lol
March 9, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Thanks BREEZCRAP FOR COSTING US THE GAME, AS USUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew the habs would find a way to lose the game.
When you spend the ENTIRE GAME IN YOUR ZONE, YOU NORMALLY LOSE!
We are not in the same class as Anaheim, and we will NEVER EVER BEAT THEM!!!!!!
March 9, 2008 at 10:35 pm
It was Lapierre that missed his mark and cost us that 2nd goal .. after that Streit made the mistake that cost us the 3rd …. what game were you watching ?
March 9, 2008 at 10:45 pm
@ hablifer
You’d think, by your dramatic use of language, that we were talking about a soap opera here. I would think that, if watching a hockey game makes you feel that emotional, you may want to consider picking a new sport. They didn’t “find a way to lose”, they were outplayed. Brisebois didn’t lose us the game; we were outshot 37-21.
March 9, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Breezer cost us a goal in the last game too. Which game were you watching?
If the ducks don’t score the 2nd goal, we come away with at least 1 point.
Breezer is a horrible defenceman. And if you don’t like my comments, tough!
I don’t like your comments either!
March 9, 2008 at 10:50 pm
and BTW, we’re outshot every game! that never changes. Unfortunately we have a very very soft defence, and they can never clear their zone, so the opposition gets loads of shots.
March 9, 2008 at 11:03 pm
It was Lapierre that missed his mark, nothing to do with Brisbois …
March 9, 2008 at 11:04 pm
I’m just glad no habs got injured tonite,we all knew we were going to lose this game.If we don’t match up in a category with the Ducks ,then they surpass us in another”Rome wasn’t built in a day”,nice try though…I actually felt they took it easy on us”maybe respect to a young ,overachieving team”. Go Habs go
March 9, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Well I aggree with Rome was not built in a day .. but we can compete with any team on any day , we just need our team to play its game… was a good game until the wheels fell off, and agian it was Lapierre that missed his mark on the 2nd goal… no big deal he will learn.
March 10, 2008 at 7:52 am
Duck Hunt lmao…i loved that game for the original snes…and the dog that jumped in the bushes to scare up all the ducks lol!
Man that gun was awsome
Ok Ok so our Habs last night…losing to the ducks….hmmm did anyone else get the feeling we were watching a preview to this years Stanley Cup final??
March 10, 2008 at 8:10 am
NO.
March 10, 2008 at 8:12 am
The Ducks will not make it to the finals. Unless they hire their own Refs.
You heard it here. NO FINALS FOR THE DUCK THIS YEAR.
March 10, 2008 at 9:05 am
The fact is we had nine penaltys and the ducks had four.We are not going to win many games sitting in the box nine times.Nor will any team.
March 10, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Sorry, the penalties weren’t ALL our fault,,,you saw Kovy wave his hand at the ref on his 3rd penalty like he didn’t care anymore, and Carbo didn’t even try to argue them at the end…was one of those games that wasn’t called down the middle. Some of those flimsy calls on the Habs were sickening compared to some of the infractions by the Ducks that were ignored….inconsistent officiating at its finest.
We weren’t allowed to be “in” this game right from the get-go. Seven penalties to two in the first 2 periods, including a couple of 5 on 3′s, and one of our 2 PP’s was overlapped by and penalty of our own. A team as goonie as the Ducks with 2 penalties in 2 periods…come on.
It all comes back to Betman’s plan for all games to be close so we can give a good show to the fans and maybe have OT or his beloved shootout. A team that 21st or so on the PP can have all these PP’s and they’re not really a threat to run up the score (as you saw last night)…but all these penalty calls did more than that…they “evened” out the game. The Ducks never scored on them…BUT, it kept the Habs from showcasing THEIR #1 PP, and kept the best players or biggest threats to score, on the bench, getting cold, with no offensive momentum whatsoever.
7 calls to 2 for the Habs, and the game would have been over in the first period, and that not “good” for the league, and the powers-that-be know this…the game was made to be even as I saw various times throughout this year. And the cherry on top for proving this “conspiracy” (if you want to call it that), was when the Ducks finally got up by a 3-1 score, we got a couple of consellation calls with 5 minutes or so left….no threat in letting the Habs PP go to work then, at best, they can only tie the game, they can’t use it to go up by 3 goals……but PP’s at this time were so ineffective because the team is already so deflated offensively that they can’t even get things clicking.
I know that complaining about the refs is taboo…and I’ve kept it to myself so far this year, but last night was brutal proof of how this league has been going this year…just take notice of how many times a team thats behind by a goal or 2 get a PP in the last 4-5 mins of a game….I’ve noticed it a hundred times this year, not just with the Habs. It’s nothing but an efford to make games close and “hopefully” have a breakaway contest at games end. Granted some games get away and end up 10-2, but thats gonna happen…but just take notice of the last 12 games or so with any teams, in close games…see how many teams trailing these games get the PP at the end.
Sorry guys about my rant, and some of you will probably disagree…but after noticing this all year it finally pissed me off last night when the Ducks of all teams, defending Cup champs, are given an advantage to victory, and we are taken right out of the game from the start, unable to get our awesome offense flying.
I have seen every Habs game this season as well as most of you have, and also I’ve seen coutless other games and this serario at games end is just something I’ve noticed and want to see if anyone else has. Again, some will disagree, and some of those calls we deserved last night, some were so small thats its sick, and then compare that to some of the calls the Ducks got off with…it’s laughable.
A supposed great match-up decided by refs…..gents, if it keeps up, we’re about 2 steps from rigged games.
March 10, 2008 at 1:44 pm
donnie good call i been saying this for a long time.Betman never going to let the cup come home, where it belongs.CANADA.
March 10, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Donnie i Agree with you a hundred percent last nights game was another poor example of refs in the west,San hose was the same kinda of bs calls as lastnight. Its like the refs were playing a game of peekaboo.
March 10, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Whew, I thought maybe it was just me…paranoia and such…good to have some backing. I mean guys, I’ve watched this night after night and its too coincidental for the team that trailing ti be given PP’s at such opportune times….OT and shootouts is what the league (Betman) wants to try and win over the hearts of Americans with excitement…but is ruining the game for Canadian hockey fans worth it?
I don’t see a hell of alot of west games…but is this a common thing in the west….is this considered a valid win for the Ducks…are they happy knowing they got 2 points due to the refs and if the PP’s had been distributed more evenly the Habs would have killed them on this alone. The league wants more goals, but if a team like the Ducks, who don’t have the offense of the Habs, can’t keep up with them, is this how it’s evened out, by crippling the offensive team to make it close???
Brutally obvious display last night, and a knife in the gut of Canadian hockey fans.
March 10, 2008 at 3:28 pm
For sho
March 10, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Look i dont think its the refs fault . I love the habs but they always seem to choke. I dont understand it but it has been happening for the last 4 or 5 years.
March 10, 2008 at 6:02 pm
I would say that Lapierre cost the second goal as much as Brisebois. THe ducks aren’t better than Montreal, anyhow, not from what I saw last game. How can you possibly win the game when the Refs don’t call the same kind of penalties on both sides. Obstruction on Montreal but on the other side they don’t call it. Anyways. That game could of went any side till the end. If the Ducks didn’t have that lucky goal in the air. The Habs would of led 1-0 and it might of been a different game.
People cheer up, we are in first of the division when nobody had even put Montreal in the playoff run. We should be happy, they can get to the finals if they work as a team. The habs are playing great.
Go habs Go
March 10, 2008 at 6:19 pm
habs are 1 of the most penalized teams in the league, because they’re not disciplined. stop blaming the refs. if the players take lazy penalties and can’t control their stick, not the refs fault. besides, every team’s fan in the league complains about the officiating.
GIVE IT A REST PLEASE!
March 10, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Go blow a goat for wooden nickels hablifer,if you did not see the uneven officiating last night u are blind.I never complain about the refs but these last few games are hard not to notice the unfair calls.
March 10, 2008 at 7:10 pm
no:1 -Refs are human…No;2- Ben ,the ducks are an improved version of last years team, get real Dude…No:3- When your fowards look like children as compared to the ducks D they may tend to cling like children,lol…N0:4- the Canadiens were built to take on eastern teams…NO:5 THE HABS ARE LUCKY THE DUCKS DID NOT GO CRAZY ON US,and in a 7 game series for the cup..oye vey!No:6-we are closer than we were last year… N0:6- GO HABS GO…
March 10, 2008 at 8:04 pm
This year isn’t like any other… Finally, the Habs will make the playoffs… They got some scoring, which they haven’t had in quite a while… They are exciting to watch.. On most nights…
Are they going to stumble? Yes.
Are they going to win most games? Yes.
Are they going to win the cup? WHo knows… But they stand as much of a chance as Ottawa, Pittsburg, Philly and Boston.
It’s nice to see that they are taken seriously now!!!
GO Habs GO !!!
March 10, 2008 at 8:46 pm
I hate to admit it but other than kovalev we are not as good as last year.
Last year we had higgins koivu ryder souray. this year we rely on one line which can be shut down in the play offs
March 10, 2008 at 9:45 pm
NYR won tonight. only 2 points behind the habs. getting alittle bit too close for comfort. a must win tomorrow for the habs.
March 11, 2008 at 11:25 am
Plekanec not playing tonight.
March 13, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Max… turn your binoculars around. The habs are not as good as last year? Koivu Higgins and Ryder are still on the team… they just pale in comparison againts the heaven sent Kostitin Brothers! Plekanecs, (latest game) Grabosky, O’Byrne, HAMMERLIK, Bouillon, Komisarek, Streit, PRICE, even Lapierre… (Markov, Kovalev – pillars of the team) etc. needless to say this team has depth… lots of it! When you have players like Dandenault (who was a starter for DETROIT!) and Brisebois, and Begin as healthy scratches… Yes I agree, we don’t have the size… but we have the heart. If you watched the game against New Jersey, you got a glimpse of what the HABS Playoff mode is all about. Even Ryder nailed some devils to the wood. On every line you have a playmmaker, Kovalev is not alone… don’t be fooled. If you look at the statistics, the points are distributed on a greater number of players than most teams. i.e. Ovechkin with 56 goals… doesn’t leave much for the rest…
FINALLY, The Refs… (apart from fluky crapy goals that always seem to happen against montreal on important games) are a menace to our stanley cup conquest. Remenber the series against Carolina? Most games against Toronto (not so much this year). San Jose’s game… Anaheim’s game… yes they are not so subtle anymore… they need to promote and sell Hockey in the south. Beating the Montreal Canadiens is exactly the image Betman wants for the fans in the south. Our fans are all over the place, and they cheer just as loud on away games. They are often louder than home team fans. How many of us are actually guilty of enjoying rubbing off a victory dance in front of a Toronto or Boston fan? I know I am… “leafs suck”
Go habs go, i’m out
