Everyone Wins
-
The Canadiens are up 3-0 on the Blues, the Leafs are down 3-1 to the Senators. It’s looking good.
The Canadiens give up 3 straight goals and barely escape with a win and the Leafs battle back and beat Ottawa in overtime.
Everyone wins and the Habs gain no ground.
The Habs never make it easy on themselves and even though they won they did so in their typical frantic and panicky manner.
Today Boston beat Detroit, in Detroit. The Rangers beat the Hurricanes in overtime giving the Canes that extra one point. Maybe the point that secures 8th spot?
This could be one of the tighest finishes in recent history with more than a couple teams missing out by just 1 or 2 points.

- goalie : I don't know when they'll announce it but the Oilers will be signing Sutter (Flames ex-coach) to coach their team - that's why Kevin Lowe chose him to coach in the World's. That was the world's worst kept secret.
- Senet1 : I guess I wish we could get it done so all the speculating was over and we can get to building out team.
- goalie : I can't type.... what a faux pas on my behalf...
- goalie : I just realized what I said adn didn't say yesterday. What a fayx as on my behalf. Regarding coaching Randy Cunnyworth MUSDT stay as an assistant- he deserves at least that after the tremendous job he did in the latter part of this past season. I'd still mlike to have Robinson, Carbo adn Allard on the staff also.
- Avatar37 : I agree Senet, my choice if we can't have Cunneyworth would be Crawford, Robinson on defense, Cunneyworth for offense, and Carbo as offense/faceoffs .
- Senet1 : I think if I had my choice it would be Crawford and see if he could get Carbo and Robinson as assistants. That would be my idea coaching team.
- goalie : I witnesed Marc Crawford MANY times when the Avs, etc. played against Oilers and let me tell you - he is constantly on the referees asses virtually game after game. He is the complete OPPOSITE of J. Martin. Crawford is calm on TSN but he is one excited coach behind the bench. A friend of mine who was an NHL linesman for 26 years said they dreaded Crawford he was so tough on the officials!
- goalie : You know, I've bee thinking about the coaching situation. I'd be really excited if the Habs had Hartley as head coach and Carbo adn Robinson as his assistants. I also read it somewhere about a month ago that Toronto's goalie coach Allard (?) wants to relocate back to Montreal where he has his goaltending school/business. Add him to the mix and I'd say the Habs would be in great shape coaching wise.
- Avatar37 : Well, from what I recall, Hartley didn't do all that well with the Thrashers. But, I don't know enough about him to judge one way or the other. Crawford I do know, and he always seemed to be a good, level headed coach to me.
- Senet1 : even Pacioretty two years ago did not impress any of us. Younger players have to play and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. If they sit in the press box they are learning nothing.
- Senet1 : Of course if he have some good assistants like a Larry Robinson to teach the young defence and someone like Carbo to teach faceoffs etc. then your coach does not have to be as good at teaching. If Hartley fits the bill you get no argument from me. My only previous point is that if he is impatient with your younger players to the point that he does not play them, then we are right back where we were with Martin. Martin was a good coach too, but how he handled Emelin, PK and even Pacioretty two
- goalie : I would like to see the Habs sign a coach who realizes that our team isn't tough enough (we need to get bigger and somewhat more nastier),the coach needs t be a great TEACHER and be a coach who can get the players to understand and buy into his system. Other than that I couldn't care what lingo he speaks. I wnat to see our team become a ligitimate contender fast!
- HabsLoseAgain : Well we dont know if he is or is not a teaching coach. I woukd just hate to paint Hartley something that he is not. There will always be questions but if Hartley was hired as the habs new bench boss i for one would not be overly upset.
- Senet1 : My thoughts are not that he is or is not a good coach but rather that when he won the cup he had an experience team of superstars on that team. Where as we have a group of young inexperienced players, is he a teaching coach or a tactical coach or both? I am not question whether he is a good coach, but my question therefore is he the coach for us at this point in the deveopment of our team?? Not sure we are all purely speculating at the moment?
- Senet1 : Something happened to my first post. I will try again.
- Senet1 : That is why I said I am not sure he is the coach for us at this time? Right now we are all speculating including yourself, because non of us know for sure?
- HabsLoseAgain : Crawford also won a cup with Patrick Roy so would you say he is a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best goaltenders of alltime?
- HabsLoseAgain : Senrt so please give me some reasons why you think Hartley is not the coach the habs need right now. What is it that you do not like about him or his coaching style?
- HabsLoseAgain : Well all great coaches had great players playing for them so i guess you you add a a pile of other coaches to that list including Bowan......
- Senet1 : Hartley, was he a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best altime goaltenders of all time. I am not sure that he is the type of coach that this organization needs right now. Unless of course we sign a ton of free agents.
- Avatar37 : However, my feelings may completely be wrong, Hartley may turn out to be a good fit.
- Avatar37 : I didn't say Hartley was unknown, I said we demoted a good coach in Cunneyworth and now have an unknown quantity because we don't have a coach. I don't have that great a feeling about Hartley, I'd be much more comfortable with Crawford.
- HabsLoseAgain : In my opinion i think he might be a good fit in montreal. Oh and he also likes to have a tough team.
- HabsLoseAgain : Also this year he coached the ZSC Lions to the swiss championship title.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol the so called "unknown" won a cup in 2000-2001 with the colarado avalanch.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol Bob Hartley is not an unknown lol.....sheesh.
- Senet1 : I think he has until the trading deadline to show us that he deserves to be on this team. If he does not get back on track then he could be simply a 2nd round draft pick to whoever we can trade him to.
- Avatar37 : Bourque reminds me of Pouliot, size, skill, and invisible. He needs to get back to playing a physical game and bang people around and maybe he'll start getting some of those garbage goals again. Need to get to the front of the net. I hope he can find his game again.
- Avatar37 : We had a good coach in Randy Cunneyworth. Now we have an unknown, with Bob Hartley rumoured to be the front runner. I'd rather have Cunneyworth.
- goalie : A player like Rene Bourwue has al the physical attributes of what would be a beter than average player. Hwever, he certainly didn't play that well especially after being in Montreal about three weeks. We NEED players like Rene to play hard AND produce points on a REGULAR BASIS in order for us to be competitive.
- Senet1 : MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a rocky start to his career as a Hab, but he’s planning on using the next four years to make up for it. After arriving in Montreal under less-than-ideal circumstances in January, Bourque spent the following 38 games hoping to find the spark he needed to rekindle his offensive production. Despite flanking Tomas Plekanec on the team’s second line to close out the season, the 30-year-old sniper suddenly found himself firing blanks in his new NHL home.
- Senet1 : I think we have to be patient and not expect too much too soon. Let's get a strong management team in place, make a good choices in the draft get a good coach and then see what we need at the free agent market. I will not be too disapointed if we miss the playoffs again next year if it means a long term team success. We have the opportunity to make some major strides over the next two years at the draft table. Then we fill in the holes.
- goalie : I certainly agree that we need to get some impact forwards who will sign for 5 years, not for a season then walk away. That's not going to help us.
- goalie : I wouldn't trade PK for Ovetchkin no matter what. He is a coach's NIGHTMARE and a poor team player.
- Senet1 : I believe he will as we graducally put better players around him and build this team.

Does not look good for the Habs when they have a hard time beating St. Louis who are using replacement players. Their defense is pathetic and their forwards don’t score on regular basis. There is definitely a lack of effort from most of the veterans. Souray is a good scorer but is poor on defense; he has a problem adapting to the new rules. I’ve been a Habs fan for 50 years at least but I have never seen such a disorganized team. We should quit blaming the goalies; they are often left on their own or screened by their own players and you can’t win games if you don’t score. The stupid penalties are killing the Habs; you can only score so many shorthanded goals and their power play lost its effectiveness. I think they are doomed; even Boston is catching up.
March 11, 2007 at 3:16 pm
Just the start of things to come. You have a so called captain making the max, and he is 20 goal scorer.
Eropeans do not win cups. They are a bunch of overpaid, underacheiving, play when they want to bums.
Give me a roster of all Canadian born players any day of the week. Look at Detroit, the last cup win for them had 18 Canadians on the roster.
Clean house, and get rid of the dead wood. Koivu, Kovalev, Goodbye and good ridence, and don’t let the door hit your *** on the way out
March 11, 2007 at 4:04 pm
Bulldogs are playing Toronto rite now , Hamalton got some huge Dmen plus Chipchura looking good.Theres a lot of good looking prospects on Hamilton ,send em up ,get them used to the big league.
March 11, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Habs now in 12th spot. This is getting sader & sader. It will be a very sad spring when the Leafs are playing hockey and Montreal is not. To make it worse I live in Toronto. I will have to listen to the radio and tv stations go on with that Maple Leaf ****. Yep, it will be worse for this Habs fan.
March 11, 2007 at 8:48 pm
What would happen if a GM would fire a player? IF a player doesn’t even come close to meeting expectations, could they say, “Sorry, you’re fired, we’re cutting our pay.”?
Any thoughts?
March 11, 2007 at 9:05 pm
He could not do that I think. The player has a contract. The GM would have to trade the player or buy him out of his contract. If have never herd of a player being fired.
March 11, 2007 at 10:15 pm
The habs have to win 8/12 of their remaining games if they want to make the playoffs…7/12 games are against teams that are fighting for the playoff spot like Carolina, Boston, Toronto, and New York..The habs have to start winning games!!!.
I really don’t want to miss that playoff atmosphere.
March 11, 2007 at 10:54 pm
Guess what, unless the habs pull a miracle, they could end up twelfth if they keep playing mediocre hockey, that means not disappearing in the third period.
With the Rangers and the Leafs winning in overtime, that pretty well has mathematically eliminated the habs, unless they win all their games. But what are the chances of that?
March 11, 2007 at 11:27 pm
Come to think of it, there is no way Montreal could get in even if they won all their remaining games, the spread is too big to overcome, we would almost have to hope that the Rangers and the Islanders and the Leafs would lose most of their games, including Atlanta. Since when has four teams ever gone on a consistent losing streak this close to the end of the season? Never.
Now is the time for fans to demand that GM Bob Gainey and the coach be fired and that we buy out Kovalev’s and Koivu’s contracts!
March 11, 2007 at 11:31 pm
Good let the building Begin, now is when the fans have a voice, use it dam it!! NO MORE PATCH WORK ;WE WANT A NEW BEGINING WITH A REAL FOUNDATION;WORTHY OF THE C.H.
March 11, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Look at the schedule, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, the Rangers…more than once for the Rangers and of course the Laffs! Montreal has not had a good time with any of the remaining games. A loss to either the Rangers or the Laffs would further eliminate any of the games we win, so mathematically if you take the stats, and maybe since Montreal has gone into overtime so much, even accounting for getting one point and winning…the odds don’t look very promising.
Unless of course, Gainey benches this bunch….Ninny, Sammy, Kovalev, Murray, Abby and plays Halak and Leighton as goalies, uses Dandy and Boully sparingly, bring up Chipchura and keep Kostysisn, bring up Milroy and Biron, send down Murray and heck even Koivu if you have to…let the rookies finish the season they could pull off a miracle, they did early in the year, why not at the end. Have an almost exclusively Rookie Habs finish to this year!
March 11, 2007 at 11:42 pm
LOL makes me laugh so what if we dont make the playoffs its not within 2 years you can rebuild a team get a life you guys seriously.
Like they fire coaches and gm’s the first time they dont make the playoffs you guys are worse then 5 year olds…It is not over yet and I think it is great to see so many teams clawing for a spot shows just how tight the new NHL will be we are soooooooooooooo bad yeah right the defending champs are barely in the playoffs HAHAHAHHAHAHAH
Come on get real
March 11, 2007 at 11:43 pm
Josh your a ****** no doubts about that a real loser
March 12, 2007 at 12:10 am
Don Carnage ,at least joshTM knows **** when he see’s it,and stop calling people retards you GOOFEY ******* !!!HOW’S IT FEEL, hope your just as uncomfortable !
March 12, 2007 at 6:23 am
Is this blog a serious discussion? Or just a bunch of people who want to fight and call each other losers? I’m about a week old on this thing and thought it would be a great way to stay informed and voice my opinion.
I’m already getting tired of the kindergarten attitude.
Most of you laugh at Leafs fans (like me), yet you come up with the same excuses. Send the whole team down to the minors…fire the coaches and GMs… Yeah, great way to improve team chemistry, let’s just start over. That’ll fix everything. LOL. Come on guys, you can do better than that. Try an original thought.
March 12, 2007 at 7:28 am
I have the ultimate fix to the Habs problems……………
We should fire the 3 Coaches & the GM. & “Put 3 know it alls” behind the bench and a GM up there in the office. All persons from this blog of course. You know, 4 people who think they know it all. You know who you are. We know who you are.
Guaranteed, we will not loose a game next year………….. Hello Stanley…
March 12, 2007 at 7:45 am
Joshtm, “Now is the time for fans to demand that GM Bob Gainey and the coach be fired.”
How many Coaches have we fired in the last 14 yrs ?
Have we done any better?
That’s our problem GM’s & Coaches.
I agree with Don’s # 12 & 13 reply. Especially # 13……….
March 12, 2007 at 8:08 am
Exactly which captain r u talkin’ about,Riggs? Last I checked(u can do so @ TSN.ca, thescore.ca,etc.,)Koivu was making almost $3 million less than the max. I agree, euros make weak captains, with the exception of a Forsbeg-type. Koivu’s main problem is that he is a 2nd line center, being forced to play a 1st line role. Although I often grind my teeth when he’s out there, the guy has beaten cancer, and tries much harder than a stiff like Sundin or Naslund.
No easy solutions come to mind with this team. A FA acquisition come July looks like a pipe dream, cosidering the circus acts that have plagued the team. The only way is to have a couple of brutal years, and good drafting. I, for one, could stand a few terrible years if it got us a young, skilled team.
Our draft history, however, doesn’t shine like Polaris. A new scouting staff, or at least a new head scout, could only help us. We’ve had a few drafts in the last 10 years or so where NOT ONE PLAYER DRAFTED PLAYED AS MUCH AS ONE NHL GAME. ‘Nuff said.
March 12, 2007 at 8:35 am
I do not bemoan the win Saturday because St. Louis had been doing pretty well in their role as spoiler by keeping every game close since trading away their UFAs. I do not however, dismiss the need for these guys to step it up, build off this win and come together as a team. At least try to restore confidence in the organizations the future. Most believe they can not do it, but they should use this cynicism to fuel a run for the playoffs. At this point, they’re playing an in playoff elimination situation ‘til the end! Unfortunately, almost everyone they play is in the same predicament.
Go Habs Go…
!
March 12, 2007 at 8:59 am
Hey guys,
Just checking in on you guys. Did you know I have over 40 points this year? Could those points have been useful this year? So far I have been pretty useful for the Stars. We are headed to the playoffs. Maybe you guys will squeak in. I sure hope so. It would really be nice for the habs to make the playoffs as a thank you to Gainey for getting me away from you psycho fans and the insane media.
Anyway, enjoy the golf ladies!
March 12, 2007 at 9:18 am
Hey Dalley, since when did you think you were Mike Ribiero? HAHAHAAA!!
So Don, we should keep a GM and a coach who have taken us to “the worst team in history” as one of you called it? If there was ever a reason to fire the GM that would be it.
What is more insane and more of a loser than to support a loser eh Don? You are the only ****** here, man talk about being a “special loser”, under Loser in the dictionary it says “see Bob Gainey and Dalley and Don Carnage”…
March 12, 2007 at 9:27 am
Good morning Joshtm. You could not make it as “Stick Boy”. You would not last till Halloween……….
March 12, 2007 at 9:29 am
Hey everybody it’s the famous Mickey Ribs,
Well Mike, your replacement Thomas Plekanec has 5 goals more than you at about half the cost. You would have been crusified if you were still on this team… You’re teams top point getters have failed to produce a 50 pt player at this point. If you think the critisizm for Kovalev was bad just imagine youself in his shoes with your measly 11 goals. Our problem is not missing your mediorcure third line stats beleave me…
March 12, 2007 at 9:34 am
Actually big difference between the Laffs and the Habs, the Habs actually have decent rookies that can with the right rental players help to nail a cup. One more thing, at least we don’t have to wheel out old folgies outta retirement homes and run black and white reruns to show the last time we won a cup!!!
There!
It had to be said. We have a good bunch of rookies, with great talent. With the right veteran pros, with added size, we can win a cup! Yes, get rid of Koivu, Kovalev, Johnson and Murray and Downie and most of all Ninnima and Samsonov and we have a cup contender!
March 12, 2007 at 9:50 am
Lets say I could get a set of tickets to Saturday nites game against the leafs, Is it worth my trip from Nova Scotia to go and watch?
March 12, 2007 at 9:50 am
Gainey should bring up Yann Danis.
2005-06 3wins 2losses 2.69 GAV .908 sav.%
I’d say take a chance on him.
The rest of this season is a chance……
March 12, 2007 at 9:53 am
If you want to pay $800.00 or more for those tickets it is not worth it.
March 12, 2007 at 10:00 am
Halak’s stats were better than Danis… and Jaro was Hamilton’s #1 before moving up. If we’re gasping for straws why not the new guy Michael Leighton. He traveling around in a suit case anyway… Maybe he has some insentive to be a hero… I am sure Halak will look better if given another chance. Abby bound to F*@k-up his chance anyway…
25 HAB-DAB-A-DO even in this bismal period in Hab history, the games agianst the Laffs are usually exciting…
March 12, 2007 at 10:05 am
Personally I would not pay over $800.00 for a set of tickets if the Habs were undefeated all year………….
People Who will pay those prices for tickets “have more money than brains”
March 12, 2007 at 10:17 am
True but if you’re willing to sit in the nose bleeds you might get be able to find some for $300 which is still highway robbery…LOL I was able to get Reds for a Sataurday game under $300 when they played the Sens from some ticket site that advertized on HabsBlog. But the Laffs/Habs game is looking like the only playoff type hockey fans might see from these 2 teams this year????
Stubhub has nose-bleeds for $150.00…

What are my fellow thinking of Sammy’s new fresh start comments: http://www.canada.com/topics/sports/hockey/canadiensstory.html?id=aa5416cc-a326-40f2-b401-af2dbeee7202&k=25572
We should start a collect and throw a huge “Pitty-Party” in his exit..
March 12, 2007 at 10:23 am
Stick with Gainey and Carbo, build, retool, grow as a team, no other way. The players will be different next season.
Oh and let’s fire josh and Xhabs as Montreal Canadiens fans, they don’t bring anything positive to the table and soul sucking negativity vampires who thrive on being depressing in every aspect of their lives.
In Bob We Trust… Cup in ’09
March 12, 2007 at 10:25 am
Wow Revision needed:
let me try that again,
What are my fellow Bloggers thoughts on Sammy’s “new fresh start” comments.
We should start a collection and throw a huge “Pitty-Party in his exit..
March 12, 2007 at 10:56 am
It looks like Smiler writes **** Cheney’s “everythings great and shiny in Baghdad” speech. Next Smiler is gonna say the world is indeed flat, and that the universe revolves around earth!
March 12, 2007 at 11:13 am
I say staple his(Samsonov’s) *** to the press box seat for the remander of the season and buy him out for next year OR send him to Hamilton and if someone is stupid enough (not bloody likely!!)to pick him up then we would only have to pick up half of his salary I believe. He was not the player we should have signed.
March 12, 2007 at 11:23 am
Smiler ,the fact is your stupid ego is what your defending here and the only way you know how to admit you ,a beer league goalie don’t know as much as you think you do ,is by insulting other people, especially if they are correct in their deductions. Having troubles keeping a mate lately????Or a you in long term counseling???? Ego can be a good thing unless you let it impair your judgment smiler.
March 12, 2007 at 11:30 am
Having grown more and more obsessed with hockey in the last few years, I’ve now resorted to reading what people say in blogs about the Habs! Before I have my head examined for being on this site, I’d just like to say that every person who is mentioning Kovalev and Koivu in the same breath is an utter and complete moron. On the one hand, you have a so-called league “superstar” who is somewhere between a pouting child and a rotten apple. He underachieves (his 14 goals so far this season would prove that) and he may (or may not) have crapped on the entire team, its coach and its fans in a foreign paper.
On the other hand, you have a guy who has done nothing but lead this team – in good and in dismal times – battling through personal adversity, including cancer and the loss of sight in an eye; a guy who leads the team in assists and in points (despite the blind spot); a man who is called a foreigner and criticised by the French media every day for whatever stupid reason they see fit. Has he ever done anything but played his *** off, occasional bad nights notwithstanding (everyone has a bad day at work sometimes)? A guy who’s been quoted in Finnish papers as saying he only wants to play hockey here in Montreal – because there would be no point winning a Stanley Cup anywhere else. That’s the guy I want leading my hockey team.
Shame on all of you for not seeing that.
March 12, 2007 at 11:48 am
Yeh. Shame, Shame, Shame everyone knows your name….Ha, Ha, Ha…………..
March 12, 2007 at 11:48 am
Nat ,let Koivu stay but the C goes to Souray,it’s time for change and new beginings.Let the march for C.H. dominance in the N.H.L. resume !!!
March 12, 2007 at 11:51 am
I agree with Nat. Koivu can be a great leader and is a welcome addition to the team. I certainly beleive that he is being used improperly as a first line center when he should at best be a second line center. Hopefully next year this will be addressed and Koivu’s true strengths will be more apparent rather than his weaknesses.
March 12, 2007 at 11:52 am
I would like to see a hockey game played with players from this blog.
That would be interesting.
Yes Joshtm you can be the “Water/Stick Boy”…………
March 12, 2007 at 12:15 pm
No I have a business contact in Montreal that will give me tickets (lower bowl) I just need to get there.
March 12, 2007 at 12:19 pm
Habadoo…..
Where is it that you live in NS.?
March 12, 2007 at 12:29 pm
The good ole Annapolis Valley
March 12, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Drive to Montreal. What is it, around a 12-15hr or less, drive? Take a friday off…..
If I could get a free ticket I would go…………
March 12, 2007 at 12:39 pm
That’s the spirit Dalley you could play Kovalev and Smiler could play Koivu….or wait isn’t Smiler Ribiero? Did anyone know that Smiler is also **** Cheney?
March 12, 2007 at 12:43 pm
We will play ourselves.
Ok Joshtm stop whinning. You can be Coach OK. If you can handle that maybe we will look at GM……………Only if you can make us a winning team…..
March 12, 2007 at 12:56 pm
I think I might wait and see what the outcome of tormorrow nites game is. I was up on Oct 27 when they played the leafs and on March 17 of last year when they played and Kovy layed the big hit on tucker, If Saturday nites game has some meaning I think I gotta go.
