    The 2005/2006 Montreal Canadiens have seen a lot of changes since the first game of their season.

    Most notable the trading of one time hero goaltender Jose Theodore and the firing of Head Coach Claude Julien.

    Other Canadiens like Pierre Dagenais got a permanent ticket away from the club and NHL.

    Months after, do you agree with these moves? More importantly what other pictures will soon be added to the above?

    With new management, new funds, and possibly the most open NHL market ever seen some current Canadiens will surely not be around come training camp.

    Who stays? Who goes?

    I’ll take a stab at the first player not returning next year.

    Mikey Ribs shown in his true form. Go whine every shift and get nailed every time you have the puck. I actually look forward to seeing you get run over by **insert any NHL player name here** YOU CAN’T TAKE A HIT. You are a lucky scorer, from soccer player to hockey player.

    After putting on that show in the pic, didn’t you come back to play in the game? Probably the next shift. Hopefully it’s the last time I see you a Habs jersey you wanna be gangsta.

    Rather than who won’t return, why not flip it around to who do you want to keep Higgins, Ryder, Koivu, Aebischer, Huet, Zednik, Souray (ouch!). Start with the core nucleus and build from there adding a Teemu Selanne, Todd Bertuzzi (there’s a thought). I suspect that some Avalanche types may well be available Tanguay, matter of fact there is a rumour that Peter Forsberg doesn’t like Bobby Clarke so it is a whole new ballgame with fresh dough to spend keeping only very limited protected core group. Behind the bench maybe Larry Robinson might be insterested in helping out his old captains with an assistants job. Or….look deeply into where the Penguins are marching and make a deal for Sidney, somebody will and soon too!They need a team and we need a superstar.

    The moves definately improved the team. If They had kept Julien and Theodore, the team wouldnt have made the playoffs at all.

    As for players leaving. Ribiero for sure and Zednik and Bonk. Those were the 3 main cancers of the team. The Defense is fine with Sourey, Markov, Rivet, Boullion, Komisarek, Dandaneult and Streit are fine.

    Interesting additions there Michael. Tanguay would be fabulous but Bertuzzi would be a disaster. The press would rip him apart.

    I say trade Aebischer, Ribiero, Zednik, and Souray for
    Lecavalier.

    Then try to get a defenceman from free agency.

    i love lecavalier’s spirit and heart (and when he went up against chara just toped it off) but i don’t think he’s worth four players. plus, if not for souray than we’ve got no one to score from the point. i see you mentioned getting another D man but then we’d be in the same situation again with a shortage of decent guys on the PP.
    it would be nice to get a new D who could score from the line AND stop someone from going around him (since we all know souray had his less than glamorous moments this year on the one-on-ones.
    GO HABS GO! we’ve matched the longest non-stanley cup draught in our history…let’s not break the record.

    Remember that Gainey’s GM roots were in Dallas so some Stars could be available. There are rumours that he is interested in Arnott and maybe the return of Robidas.

    Also rumours that Habs could be interested in players such as Elias and Straka.

    Any thoughts?

    First of all, Souray has a lot of talent, but he is injury prone, tends to make a lot of mistakes, and is not stable familywise. He is the kinda of guy that the minute you think he will have a big season, something happens and he ruins it. In two years he will be worth nothing….. Right now, his worth is at an all time high. This is why we should trade him. As for Ribiero, and Zednik both had bad years, and we may lose them for nothing…. So, what are we giving up when I say to trade Aebischer, Ribiero, Zednik, and Souray for Lecavalier. Not much considering what we will be getting.

    We kinda lost Theodore for nothing.. Lets not make the same mistake twice. Right now Aebischer and Souray are worth their max. Ribiero is not worth that much. And Zednik might be worth keeping, but I don’t think we can get Lecavalier without him….

    Bonk only woke up once the playoffs started- we need someone who will play like he means it in the 82 games leading up to the playoffs. What use are playoff players if you have to struggle just to make the playoffs. Zednik has a similar M.O. The truth is, I really like both of those guys when they play to their capabilities, but we dont get to see that until March-April. F**k that. We can afford to put a nice package together for someone who needs a goalie and a zippy forward or two and wants to loose a mega-buck mega-star. Philly and Vancouver come to mind. I am no expert on these matters and make no pretence to be, but the weak links in the Hab chain are pretty obvious- lets lose ‘em and bring in someone who wants to play for the greatest organization in the history of the sport.

    I agree with PS – keep Bonk. He played very well down the stretch. He was really fruustrating to watch the first half of the year, but he picked it up at the end. Getting rid of Bonk would be tough b/c of his poor year. Therefore, we would likely have to give him away – not worth it.

    We need a centre – Ribs is a bum and should go. Also, we need D. I don’t think we are good enough on the back end. Souray is an offensive weapon for sure and it is nice to have the shot on the PP, but he is not a #1 D in this NHL. Markov is a keeper, so it Boulion, Komi and Rivet (b/c of leadership, work ethic, and friend of Saku).

    So, Vinny would be a great catch if we could make a deal but don’t count on it. I also don’t think Tampa will let Richards go (I am from PEI and would love to see him on the habs – by far the best player to come from PEI). However, if anyone of the “Big three” leaves Tampa it will be S. Louis.

    PLEASE DON’T TOUCH BERTUZZI!!!!!!!!

    That’s what Gainey said and I believe that’s the right way. I hope the Montreal Team is REALLY thinking of the youngs.

    Check out the teams that are playing well in the playoff right now, Anaheim and Buffalo is full of young rookie player. That,s the way to go.

    With the salary, etc… it’s hard to get really TOP player without having a hole anywhere in your team. If you get a big Goaler, you will have trouble in offense, if you get a SuperScorer you will have a hole in your defense. So you have to gamble with things, make it so-so everywhere and hope some youngs stand-up and play well at the right time. That’s the way to win, nothing else.

    No team will trade a Top-Player for 4 other guys, cause they don’t need them, you can get that type of player anywhere as free-agents so. You have to make the move and get the player here.

    With nearly 90cent canadian the US dollar, hope it’s help get some player out here instead of going for the states.

    We need to trade 1 of the goalies, Zednik, Sundstrom, Ribeiro and Bulis (free agent) to make a serious run for the cup.
    Team needs are:
    1. second line centre man (free agent’s that would fit the team) Jason Arnott, Marc Savard or Brad Richards
    2. A true #1 D-Man – Redden, Jovo or Chara (would love Jovo. Souray is a liability and only good on the power play. Markov is not consistant and a no show in the playoffs)
    3. A “BIG TIMEâ€? scoring winger – Bertuzzi (don’t like Burt but he would really help, Selanie or Elias would fit that profile (maybe trade for St.Louis or Vinny in Tampa, they need a goalie)

    JULY !st = FREE AGENCY the holes will be fixed. GO HABS GO BABY!

    J-Nic’s right about the youngsters, esp bringing some up from the minors. The realities of the salary cap almost dictate that you get some cheap, yong players on the roster. Kostitsyn, Latendresse, Danis and Chipchura could all make the team next year. Some veterans and their veteran salaries like Aebischer, Ribeiro, Sundstrom and Bulis may have to go — esp if the Habs want to sign a second line center and/or a first line right winger (would love to Selanne and Koivu together again). Signing Huet won’t come cheap either.

    We might see something like the following line combos next year:
    Higgins-Koivu-Selanne?
    Kovalev-Plekanec-Ryder
    Zednik-Bonk-Latendresse
    Begin-Chipchura-Murray

    Chipchura adds some size up the middle. Zednik proved his worth as an aggressive forechecker, if not scorer. And Plekanec may have been the best offensive center against the Canes. And we gotta keep Bonk. He can’t score either, but does a helluva job on the PK.

    Agree that our d is probably good enough, but there isn’t much young talent to replenish it anyway. We lost Hainsey and Beauchemin on waivers to Columbus — that hurt a lot.

    i agree with some of you about getting rid of bulis because he even said that he wanted to leave but i trully believe that if we keep aebischer it would be good because he is a good goalie and it’s always good to have two good goalies and also i think that if we keep mike ribeiro and richard zednik it would not be a bad idea because not only are they both good looking :) but they are talented and they have the potential.. maybe they aren’t very confident with themselves and maybe they had a bad season but they need the chance to show what they can really do and i think that next season is the chance they need so we really need to keep them i really don’t want ribeiro to leave because i really like him!!:) we can’t forget that in 03-04 ribeiro was the best scorer of the team and before zedniks horrible injury in the playoffs with boston, he was extremely talented. i think that getting rid of Ribeiro and zednik would be a huge mistake because they have a big and good bond with the team and i think that getting rid of them is a mistake… we should keep them till the next trading deadline in the next season and then if they don’t improve we can then get rid of them but that’s just my opinion so someone please write back to me (melissa) and tell me what you think aout my message!! thanks

    hopefully we can add rebeiro’s pic to the list, he missed about 5 for sure goals vs. carolina and is hurting the team by taking up the second line centre spot and not doing anything…please trade him or just don’t sign him

    Latendrasse? Think he’s ready? Jan Danis would make 3 goalies of merit and virtue on the roster (potential trade material), but I am curious as to what Carboneau wants in training camp. If one looks at what Bob Gainey has done with personel since the Kovalev acquisition, we all may be very surprised at both who stays and who goes. However, I am certain we won’t see a repeat of the “no significant off season moves” of the past. Incidently, did anyone notice how Theodore and Brisebois were liabilities as things heated up for Colorado. I wish those guys the best, and sure- they got to the second round and we didn’t, but THANK GOD THOSE FELLAS DON’T WEAR THE TRI COLOUR ANY LONGER!!!

    We don’t NEED Redden, Jovo, Chara and especially Bertuzzi. Too much salary for their worth. Elias is in the same ‘camp’. Don’t NEED him either.

    We’ve got good youngsters coming up for the offence. On defense, Salei, Mara, Morris & Brewer would do very well, thank you.
    On offence, if someone would be worth consideration, I’d suggest Legwand. Not as big a scorer as some others but has potential and his salary demands would be more reasonable.

    All of this is valid unless, of course, the stupid Brad Richards contract amount messes up the subsequent offers.

    What Montreal need is a number 1 center. With Koivu’s eye injury there is nothing that is concrete about him coming back in red-white-and-blue next year. And if is does come back, whoever we get can go on a line with Kovalev. He just has too much talent and nobody to play with. Gainey has to get rid of Aebishmuck…i mean Aebishear. He SUCKS!! No matter how much theo sucked this year he is still a better goaltender than Aebishear so in my opinion, montreal got the bad end of that deal. Gainey also has to be careful that he doesnt send off good players and ruin the team like they did in 1995 w/Patrick Roy. Best goalie of all time and we just GAVE him away to Colorado. Bonk proved himself in the playoffs and he is strong on the pk. Ribs SUCKS. He couldnt score a goal if the net was the size of the Bell Centre. How many times did he miss the net vs. Carolina….a hundred? And Zednik, don’t even get me started. He really sucks….him and bulis should go back to Washington.

    David ficher was that a smart move?
    canadiens have young players so i think it was smart if you put him on the same line with koivu it , it should be good. cause it made a difference with higgins and ryder.

  • goalie : I don't know when they'll announce it but the Oilers will be signing Sutter (Flames ex-coach) to coach their team - that's why Kevin Lowe chose him to coach in the World's. That was the world's worst kept secret.
  • Senet1 : I guess I wish we could get it done so all the speculating was over and we can get to building out team.

  • goalie : I just realized what I said adn didn't say yesterday. What a fayx as on my behalf. Regarding coaching Randy Cunnyworth MUSDT stay as an assistant- he deserves at least that after the tremendous job he did in the latter part of this past season. I'd still mlike to have Robinson, Carbo adn Allard on the staff also.
  • Avatar37 : I agree Senet, my choice if we can't have Cunneyworth would be Crawford, Robinson on defense, Cunneyworth for offense, and Carbo as offense/faceoffs .
  • Senet1 : I think if I had my choice it would be Crawford and see if he could get Carbo and Robinson as assistants. That would be my idea coaching team.
  • goalie : I witnesed Marc Crawford MANY times when the Avs, etc. played against Oilers and let me tell you - he is constantly on the referees asses virtually game after game. He is the complete OPPOSITE of J. Martin. Crawford is calm on TSN but he is one excited coach behind the bench. A friend of mine who was an NHL linesman for 26 years said they dreaded Crawford he was so tough on the officials!
  • goalie : You know, I've bee thinking about the coaching situation. I'd be really excited if the Habs had Hartley as head coach and Carbo adn Robinson as his assistants. I also read it somewhere about a month ago that Toronto's goalie coach Allard (?) wants to relocate back to Montreal where he has his goaltending school/business. Add him to the mix and I'd say the Habs would be in great shape coaching wise.
  • Avatar37 : Well, from what I recall, Hartley didn't do all that well with the Thrashers. But, I don't know enough about him to judge one way or the other. Crawford I do know, and he always seemed to be a good, level headed coach to me.
  • Senet1 : even Pacioretty two years ago did not impress any of us. Younger players have to play and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. If they sit in the press box they are learning nothing.
  • Senet1 : Of course if he have some good assistants like a Larry Robinson to teach the young defence and someone like Carbo to teach faceoffs etc. then your coach does not have to be as good at teaching. If Hartley fits the bill you get no argument from me. My only previous point is that if he is impatient with your younger players to the point that he does not play them, then we are right back where we were with Martin. Martin was a good coach too, but how he handled Emelin, PK and even Pacioretty two
  • goalie : I would like to see the Habs sign a coach who realizes that our team isn't tough enough (we need to get bigger and somewhat more nastier),the coach needs t be a great TEACHER and be a coach who can get the players to understand and buy into his system. Other than that I couldn't care what lingo he speaks. I wnat to see our team become a ligitimate contender fast!
  • HabsLoseAgain : Well we dont know if he is or is not a teaching coach. I woukd just hate to paint Hartley something that he is not. There will always be questions but if Hartley was hired as the habs new bench boss i for one would not be overly upset.
  • Senet1 : My thoughts are not that he is or is not a good coach but rather that when he won the cup he had an experience team of superstars on that team. Where as we have a group of young inexperienced players, is he a teaching coach or a tactical coach or both? I am not question whether he is a good coach, but my question therefore is he the coach for us at this point in the deveopment of our team?? Not sure we are all purely speculating at the moment?

  • Senet1 : Hartley, was he a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best altime goaltenders of all time. I am not sure that he is the type of coach that this organization needs right now. Unless of course we sign a ton of free agents.

  • Avatar37 : I didn't say Hartley was unknown, I said we demoted a good coach in Cunneyworth and now have an unknown quantity because we don't have a coach. I don't have that great a feeling about Hartley, I'd be much more comfortable with Crawford.

  • Avatar37 : Bourque reminds me of Pouliot, size, skill, and invisible. He needs to get back to playing a physical game and bang people around and maybe he'll start getting some of those garbage goals again. Need to get to the front of the net. I hope he can find his game again.
  • Avatar37 : We had a good coach in Randy Cunneyworth. Now we have an unknown, with Bob Hartley rumoured to be the front runner. I'd rather have Cunneyworth.
  • goalie : A player like Rene Bourwue has al the physical attributes of what would be a beter than average player. Hwever, he certainly didn't play that well especially after being in Montreal about three weeks. We NEED players like Rene to play hard AND produce points on a REGULAR BASIS in order for us to be competitive.
  • Senet1 : MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a rocky start to his career as a Hab, but he’s planning on using the next four years to make up for it. After arriving in Montreal under less-than-ideal circumstances in January, Bourque spent the following 38 games hoping to find the spark he needed to rekindle his offensive production. Despite flanking Tomas Plekanec on the team’s second line to close out the season, the 30-year-old sniper suddenly found himself firing blanks in his new NHL home.
  • Senet1 : I think we have to be patient and not expect too much too soon. Let's get a strong management team in place, make a good choices in the draft get a good coach and then see what we need at the free agent market. I will not be too disapointed if we miss the playoffs again next year if it means a long term team success. We have the opportunity to make some major strides over the next two years at the draft table. Then we fill in the holes.
  • goalie : I certainly agree that we need to get some impact forwards who will sign for 5 years, not for a season then walk away. That's not going to help us.
  • goalie : I wouldn't trade PK for Ovetchkin no matter what. He is a coach's NIGHTMARE and a poor team player.
  • Senet1 : I believe he will as we graducally put better players around him and build this team.
