The big news is that Montreal made a move to add depth to their banged up blueline, acquiring James Wisniewski from the Islanders in return for a 2nd rd pick in 2011 and 5th round pick in 2012. Wisniewski certainly isn’t the biggest guy in the world but is a very capable defender who can log minutes 5 on 5 as well as the powerplay. This season Wisniewski makes 3.25M which leaves Gauthier with some space should he feel the need to tinker with the forward group towards the end of the season. I for one like this trade very much, as JW brings experience in a 26 year old body – something critically needed by the Habs right now. Wisniewski is an UFA at the end of the season, also allowing Marin and CO lots of time to assess his play before having to resign a host of defenders next year.
Tonight’s game should be a doozy with the young defenders knowing that this may be a last chance to prove their worth. The Caps will want revenge. I’d just like to see our team compete the way they did for the first 25 or so games this season.
Go Habs Go!!!
