Game 42: Habs/Lightning

  • First off I want to say that I hope everyone is having a fun and safe holiday season. I also want to apaulogize for the lack of game blogs on my part which was the result of a death of a computer and my holiday travels which delayed its replacement. I’m going to sync the blog to my phone from now on so that I shouldn’t miss another one.

On to the fun. Filed under the ‘Obvious Move of the Month’ category we find that Tomas Plekanec has been named to the Czech Olympic team. Somewhat suprisingly however is the ommission of both Jaro Spacek and Roman Hamrlik. Plex will join the Kostitsyn bros, Jaro Halak and Andrei Markov as Olympians in Vancouver.

Tonight the Habs face the Lightning who always seem to find a way to elevate their game against us. Since they have won 4 of their last 5, it will be hard for them to elevate any higher. The Habs will have to play a smart defensive game to mitigate the potential danger of the Lightning powerplay that features Lecavalier, St Louis and the unbelievable Stamkos. While Ottawa’s game showed us that the Habs are capable of firing shots on net, we did witness what happens when the goaltending isn’t superhuman. Not that Jaro can be faulted for the loss, but he didn’t steal the game – and the Habs couldn’t bail him out. Tonight Habs fans will again hope for a balanced attack that can allow our own skaters to carry the play, and take some of the pressure off our goaltender.

    Go Habs Go!!!

  1. Mats sorry to hear about your computer death and thanks for the best wishes. I never like this Florida trips but we played a decent game tonight and fortunately Price held us in the game until we could score the second goal. It always seems that Price is involved in these 2 to 1 games, we never seem to get him too many goals when he plays.

  2. Not sure I agree with all the team Canada selections but then again all the players they did pick are good ones. My only hope is that Markov and Plex and teh Kost brothers do not get hurt during the tournament. Stay healthy boys we need you for the stretch run. Well we have played six in a row away games and have won five of six. Never did I think that we would ever have that good of record on this road trip. If we can win tomorrow night vs. Florida that is 12 of a possible 14 points. NOT BAD. Sure they were against weaker teams but they were road games and these are always tougher to win. Good job even though some of the wins were too pretty.

  3. So here are the players I think we could look at for possible trade bait before the trading deadline.
Lapierre, Gil, Halak, D’Agostini and big George. Those five plus some minor leaguers such as Weber could be made available.

Gomez is also a possible trade especially if we have a shot at Vinny??? Similar salarys but Gomez contract much shorter than Vinny’s so with a couple of young players thrown in TB gets what they need for long and short run.
