Unless Laraque starts to fight guys a little out of his weight class i dont see him much as a factor. I was one that was happy to see bob get laraque here but he really needs to start making himself noticed and not just to the other teams tough guys but the whole team.
When you’re up against a goaltender who’s riding a shutout streak, you cannot miss open net chances. You have to capitalize on one of those tap-ins and put that shutout mentality to bed. The Habs failure to do so in the first period may mean that they’re in for a long night.
Wow, talk about flat. I estimated that little meeting Carbs had with Kovy would last a week, apparently it only lasted 1 game. Another brutal, non threatening effort tonight. Nobody makes anything happens, the throw the pucks to spots and hope something happens. Kovalev’s lazy, selfish attitude is not even worth badmouthing anymore…he is what he is.
Even when some of our guys work hard, nothing comes from it anymore. We apparently don;t carry the puck in over the blue line anymore, it’s dump with no chase. We don;t cut to the net…it’s always stop, turn away and look for a pass. And our defensive zone breakout passes to our forwards sticks are non-exsistent. We don;t give ourselves any advantage by having good, swift breakouts..basically we throw it away.
Even Komisarek and Georges are playing horrible as of late.
Carbs, it seems, can’t motivate these guys for any longer than 24 out of any given week.
These boys are playing terrible hockey, and it’s so mournful to watch. Anyways, what else can one say?
I only got to watch the first period tonight, but it seems like we gave up a couple softies, and had no finish on our own chances… again. Was this so? 37-22 shots, seems like we carried the play, but let Buffalo off easy. Was Laraque a factor at all? Komisarek needs to get his head in the game after a look at his give-away. Price has always been great positionally, but when he needs to improvise, he often lets in weird goals. Bad news on scrambles in front of the net, or on deflected shots. We really need to beat the leafs because the biggest road trip of the year is quickly approaching.
Ryan O’bryne is not an NHL defenceman. He is too awkward for his size.He has to slow down and use his angles better and have better judgement when taking someone out. Carey Price has to get better or Carboneau is going to have send a message and start Halak for a couple of games.
If you only watched the first period, then count yourself lucky. The team was absolutely horrible for the second and third. Another lazy, uninspired, couldn’t-care-less effort by most of the usual players. And to top it off, Kovalev took an unnecessary penalty (Mats Sundin style) with two minutes remaining in the third, which annihilated any chance that the team might have had to get the tying goal.
That being said, I did appreciate the passion that players such as Lapierre and Laraque showed to be in the game. That was refreshing, and that’s what Gainey needs to build around if possible. Send the slackers on their way and try to land some crucial ingredients in return. This season may still be salvagable if Gainey can pull something monumental off at the deadline. If not, then the Habs’ centennial season will come and go quietly and be about as noteworthy and memorable as a ****.
As to Laraque, anyone who thinks that he’s only useful if he fights probably didn’t have the luxury of watching him play in Edmonton. His forechecking ability and puck possession skills, not to mention his ability to hit, make him a very valuable asset, in my opinion.
HabsLoseAgain : He is a ufa if I am not mistaken. Seems to be having a good playoff so far.
HabsLoseAgain : Wonder if marc bergevin with his old Chicago ties might be able to bring bickell on board. He would be just what the habs are looking for imo
HabsLoseAgain : Not sure if this has been discussed already but what does everyone think of roland melanson coming out and say how prices game has fallen apart since he was let go by the habs. Does not really say much when he is the goalie coach for the canucks in my opinion
Senet1 : Signing Drewiske may tell us that there are plans to remove Diaz, Weber and maybe even Markov. Drewiske did not have enough time to learn our defensive system and I am thinking that he was signed because they feel he can be a good defenceman for us with time to learn the system. It also tells me that probably only one of the young D-men will make our team that being Tinordi. Beaulieau will probably play (start) in Hamilton.
Mats Naslund : Habs sign Davis Drewiske to a 2 year extension. He basically makes league minimum. I like the signing. Nothing exciting - but you want him to hold the last spot until a young guy forces his way onto the roster.
Mats Naslund : Hey everyone, HB has deleted the previous messages in order to get rid of spam. I'll post to get things back up and running.. PK Subban - Norris winner. Thoughts?

If he continues to hit like he did on Numminen, he makes a huge difference.
