Game 59: Habs/Pens

  • What a great weekend this will be with two Canadiens matinee games and the Superbowl. Here’s hoping that it isn’t ruined by Sidney Crosby who I’m pretty sure has never played a bad game against the Canadiens in his life. Sid is having himself a whale of a season with 71 points in 56 games. More impressive is the fact the Kid has taken to scoring goals (37) with reckless abandon, convincing those who had him pegged as a set-up man to re-think their opinion. So this afternoon all of the Habs nation will be cheering in loud opposition to Sid before we change our tune in loud support next week when the Olympics begin.

The Habs recalled Desharnais, Trotter and White for today’s game as a rash of injuries continues to plague the team. MA Bergeron will be out at least 3 games as he has been placed on the IR with a lower body injury after blocking a shot against the Bruins. Pouliot, Plex and Sergei also took therapy days instead of practice yesterday which could be staggering trouble.

    Puck drops at 2pm.

Ok in the last 7 games, we beat the first place NJ devils, the first place Vancouver Canucks, the 2009 Stanley Cup Champions, the NYrangers and the always tough Boston Bruins. Then we lose to Florida and Tampa Bay whooo! two teams that we should have controlled and won both games. On top of that we lose with our highest scoring forward in these games and win two very important games without him in the lineup. If you are not confused yet, we call up four or five minor leaguers who supply the energy that the teams seems to have been lacking and we win and two of them are considered stars of the game. So I guess the question is where do we go from here. We now have the Bruins back into town who out shots us 2 to 1 and we won the game 3-2. Anyone who read this information would wonder if there were two different teams playing these games. So now what. To analyze the team without knowing all the stuff that has taken place this year, you would think that the habs are simply a great team who lost a couple of games. It would seem that this team is cabable of having a great run in the playoffs, winning the cup is beyond consideration but winning a couple of rounds is not inconceiveable. So why are we all so negative towards our chances of even making the playoffs.
