Game 7: Habs/Caps

  • It feels good to even type that. Game 7. Habs fans are still riding high on the emotional win from Monday night. An opportunity to watch a game that we may just recall years from now in the same manner we remember other great performances though our history. Lets hope that the energy hasn’t left our squad without the jump they will no doubt need to win the final game of this series. While most people have noted that even without a series win Habs fans are impressed with their squad. But make no mistake. This is Montreal. These are the Canadiens. We want to beat every opponent that we face. We’re not happy unless we’re the Champions and so we must turn our attention from the incredible win just 48 hours old and focus our attention on the task at hand. Washington will be trying to out-do the 54 shot barrage that Halak faced Monday night. They will be as physical as they can be, and they will try to do all that they have done in the regular season to ensure that Montreal does not finish the unlikely comeback – one which Jose Theodore mustered against the Bruins so many years ago.

While this game is scary to Habs fans, it is more imposing on the Caps. We need to pressure them. Force them to play defense which will be made that much harder to do without Tom Poti. We’ve seen it for most of this series, and it all comes down to 60 minutes.

    Go Habs Go!

What a game. Montreal had an easier time winning in Washington than they did in Montreal. It’s a shame that home ice advantage has turned into home ice disadvantage. Players seem to relax more in the other team’s building. This is something that will have to reverse itself if we are going to have any chance vs the Pens. Gill has stepped it up for the playoffs which is nice, but he almost cost us a goal when he fell down again skating backwards. It was great to see the team play disciplined hockey and collapse and block shots and cut angles. Most of the shots Halak faced were from the outside, with players around to clear rebounds. I’m excited about the next series, no one predicted we’d make it this far, all the pressure is on Pitts. I just hope we can keep playing 60 minutes of hockey, because taking a few shifts off could cost us games.

    Go Habs Go!

The air smells a little sweeter today. When Wash was up 3 games to 1, I took such a ribbing on Facebook from all the OV bandwagons. It was soooooooooo nice to go on there last night and shut them all up. Halak…what else can you say?
People already calling this the biggest upset of our generation…only the 9th time an 8th seed knocked off a #1, but, the first time ever it was done when being down 3-1 in games.
And now we get hockey in May…wow, who woulda thunk it.So nice to see them compete hard. This is all fans want, win or lose. Everything else now is just gravy. GO HABS GO !!

We had to know this type of play was coming, we would see bits and pieces of it since the Olympics. We to stop and think about it, this team as a complete team has only been together for about a two months. So they did not have much time to develop the character and teamwork and chemistry that other teams had all year. I still don’t like Martins style of defensive coaching but the players did spend more time in Washingtons end than in game six and our defence started coming together in this series too. I expect PK will be sent back to Hamilton to finish out the playoffs there, but sure would like to see him up here the rest of the PO.

I do have to give Martin credit for his game plan in our defensive zone. Every defenceman we had played better than they have played all year including MAB.

Pittsburg is going to be more difficult to defend because unlike OV Crosby utilizes all his players and is not one demensional as far as his attack. He is not a selfish player and makes everyone on the ice a better player. Here is hoping he makes us look good too. Malking is more like OV in his attack and I think we may be able to handle him on his own line. However there PP is what worries me the most. Hope Martin has some answers on how to defend. Crosby like Gretzky utilitizes the other players on the ice which is what makes him so dangerous. In order to defend Gretzky you had to take away his wingers and the point. That means no missed assignments. I just hope the guys have enough in the tank to give Pittsburg a series.
