Game 76: Habs/Flyers

  • Its being reported that Peter Budaj will get the start in goal tonight when the Habs face the Flyers. That may be good news for those of us who enjoy watching the Habs win (as they did last night in front of Carey Price) but would prefer them to lose in order to ensure the highest possible pick in next seasons entry draft.

That is all that I will say about tonight’s game.

Question: Can you remember a better free agent signing in the HISTORY of the Montreal Canadiens than Eric Cole has been this season for the Habs?

With his incredible natural hat trick to start the game last night, Eric Cole has tied Max Pacioretty for the team lead in goals with 30. At 33 years of age, there were a great many pundits who criticized Pierre Gauthier for signing a player who many felt was fragile, and incapable of playing away from his long-term home in Carolina. Boy has he proved his critics wrong. With 55 points Cole follows only Josh Gorges for the team lead in +/- as a plus 10. I shudder to think were the team would be without him, and I simply can’t imagine how profound an impact his presence has made on Max Pacioretty who has emerged as a similar type scoring power forward with 30 goals and 58 points.

Go Habs Go!! (But don’t go too well.)

Well Cole has shown Pacioretty how to complete. The only thing I am concerned about this line is the lack of attemtion to defence, they need to be stronger on the puck, expecially Pacioretty in our end.

As it stands right now we draft third before (lottery). I would like to see Edmonton get hot and win a couple of games, I know they will probably draft the defenceman but I would rather have second pick outright to ensure of that possibility. I would also offer Columbus all three of our 2nd round picks for their first round pick and/or offer Edmonton or Islander etc. two of our second round picks for their first round pick.

Correction, we do not have three 2nd rounders, only two we have three I believe next year. If we could pry a #1 pick away from one of the top five I would up a number of the 2nd rounders to get that top five pick.
