Habs assassinate Sens
-
Point form on the game:
- Chris Higgins is for real.
- Kovalev at Center worked – the second line in general worked. At least for now.
- Abeischer is getting hot.
- The Canadiens thoroughly outplayed the Sens until the fluky Spezza goal, which caused them to break down completely. Abeischer saved them at that point.
- Despite defensive lapses, Latendresse is doing his job and hitting everything that moves. Imagine what he’ll be like when he learns to skate. Yes, he’s like a slow moving train, but when he reaches full speed look out.
- Markov is regaining his normal form – great news.
- Begin finally scored.
- Mike Johnson is pleasantly surprising many people.
- Habs remain Top 5 leaguewide in PP and PK

- goalie : Didn't get to see the game at all but it's great to see Pacs get a hat trick and fpor Cole to be + 3. When was the last time this team won three games in a row? Great victory -looks like they're giving 100% effort!
- Senet1 : 4-2 win habs
- Senet1 : Gomez scores, Yea!!!
- goalie : As I said yesterday it will be interesting to see what our lame ass GM gets for players he ships out. Bourque is good and he'll help us but I still think we could have gotten more for him and for Halak when he was traded.
- Avatar37 : round those picks occur (probably 3rd).
- Avatar37 : An interesting article. If we slip to the 5th or 7th draft pick, a very interesting case could be made for drafting Galchenyuk. If we wind up with the second or third pick, I'm not sure who I'd draft, because clearly Yakupov is going to be drafted first overall. Our second round pick also becomes interesting, I know I'd take Vasilevski if he were still available. It will also be interesting to see if we can turn some of our veteran players (Moen, Gill, Campoli) into draft picks, and what

- Avatar37 : That is why PG should have waited on trading Cammalleri. Right now, there is a high demand for a top 6 forward, we could have gotten much more than Bourque in return. That isn't a knock against Bourque, but a knock against a knee-jerk reaction trade that didn't maximize our return on a top asset.
- Avatar37 : «link»
- Avatar37 : chips fall where they may. After all, the only difference between finishing 17th and 29th is how good a pick you get in the draft.
- Avatar37 : We currently sit in 26th place in the league. We are 15 points ahead of Columbus, it's safe to bet at this point they will place last. We are, however, only 4 points ahead of Edmonton so it's still wide open as to who is going to finish second last. I still think that it's time to sit the veterans, play the youth, let them get experience, and regroup for next year. I'm not suggesting deliberately tanking like the Penguins, but give all our young players lots of playing time and let the c
- Avatar37 : goalie - If it were not for the play of Cammalleri, we would never have made it out of round 1. Cammalleri played as big a part, if not bigger, than Halak did. Sure, Halak played well, but remember the team collapsed in front of him, making his job much easier. We had lots of blocked shots and the ones that got through were typically from the outside.
- Senet1 : Goalie you are absolutely right, of course the one thing we had the two previous years that won the games that we are losing this year was our power play. If you look at say 10 games that we should have won had we had a similar power play, again we would not be having these conversations. When your PP goes from first to last in the league that is a lot of goals. How many games have we lost this year by one goal. Again poor management who did not prepare for Markov's possible absence.
- goalie : I'll put it another way.... we need more players who are willing to get their noses dirty.
- goalie : Two years ago when our goaltending stole series adn our players suddenly scored the coaches / GM believed that that was our true team . Well time has proven that was not. Though I was very glad to see the Habs knock off some very good teams we were very fortunate. And fortunate that spring was spelled HALAK!
- goalie : The wrst mistake management could possibly make I believe is to say, we played well some games and we believe the team can play to that level more often in the future. This team CANNOT adnb DOES NOT play to a high enough level. Please do not kid yourself mamngement. hat is partially why we're in the lace we are.
- goalie : Senet is correct when he says that if we had more games with a better efort this year we'd likely be in the playoffs. It has been very inconsistent effort but much more than that. We lack big, tough playing and finishing. Never mind fighting for a moment. We did not compete for the pucks nor along the boards nor in front of both nets enough this year. Thus we are in 29th. If the coaching staff doesn't see that then they shouldn't be there.
- Senet1 : Surely Molson is not going to keep him as the GM?
- Senet1 : when he knows he will be fired at the end of the season. Nothing really makes since in this whole process.
- Senet1 : I am not sue why PG has not been fired by now. They could be waiting for another GM to come available at season end, but why would you not set up a committee to manage the team in the short run until a new GM can be named. There is no since in chaning coaches because whoever the GM is he will want to name his own coach. Gainey and a committe of other executives can manage the team through to the trading deadline and onward. What motivation does PG have to making any worthwhile trades when he is
- Senet1 : I am too mch of a competitor to want my team to tank to. However, If these players played like they ae cabable of playing all year we would not be having this discussion right now, we woud be talking about the playoffs and who we would rather meet in the first round.
- rocky : Exactly, and Senet nails it when he says we have not had an elite top 5 in the nhl player since lafleur.
- goalie : I too want the Habs to get the best possible draft this June. We all need SOME hope!
- rocky : He is persona non grata in habville, and a ghost in every sense of the term.
- goalie : It remains a miracle how we have heard from our mighty GM twice since Christmas - the trades involving Spacek and Cammy and those comments were extremely brief. PG just does not cut it in my world. Part of a GMs job is to go public from time to time. PG never does that in fact he's a ghost GM!
- rocky : Its true, there is no honor in that. These guys have only known the ethic of giving it all to win every night. I do not want them to "tank", and they will never do that anyway. I do want them to lose though, as awful as it sounds.
- goalie : Roicky as a good point. We all want the Habs to get a really good draft pick. However, players, coaches etc. also have a keen desire to compete and win. That's why they're playing at the pro level. Thus we can only hope that the team plays some good games and let the chips fall where they may. After the disasterous season we've had let's not lower ourselves adn get involved in any dscussions about 'tanking' games.
- rocky : So long.
- Senet1 : Good discussion rocky, I have to step out for an hour, but may be back later.
- Senet1 : The only way this team comes back to a team with long term potential is to draft a game breaker. Even all the other bad teams have a Stamkos or a player like him. He have some good player so what we need is a Malkin that we can count on 80% of the time to win a game for us.
- rocky : I mean winning will only do them harm that is.
- rocky : It really hurts because my reflexes make me want to cheer like mad, but it will only hurt the team now.
- Senet1 : Yes I have mixed feeling when watching the game. Last night I say here we go again. with our record of shoot losses I did not expect to win that one. Yet I wanted to win real bad?????
- rocky : God, so horrible to sit and hope for losses, but here we are.
- Senet1 : Our problem is we play one out of every 4 games good and therefore, we play well enough to stay on the borderline of a top five pick. If we win three or four in a row we could take ourselves right out of the running.

This is the kind of game… and team effort… that reaps rewards in all kinds of ways, especially confidence and spirit (not to mention valuable points against a division rival). Way to go! Maybe the near-meltdown against the Laffs taught them a lesson…
November 1, 2006 at 10:26 am
short and sweet summary of the game but it was closer than the score indicates (2-1 with the golie pulled could’ve gone either way still.) Abby did a good job keeping us in it
November 1, 2006 at 10:35 am
Guys I’m the first person that isin’t sure that Latendress shouldn’t still be in the minors…But if you saw the same game I did you have to admit he’s starting to show some presence on the ice. He had 2 good shots, a few pretty passes, and he layed the body “ON more than a few times last night. Is he a crosby or ovechkin…HELL NO! but he does have talent to developpe and I believe is being cultivated to be more a LeCavalier style player…As for the other aspects of the game..I really liked what I saw in the 2nd period! the last half of the third though…well..Once again made me nervous…Why oh Why can’t these guys play 60 minutes of hockey! But overall Great game!
Good news Carolina is playing Atlanta tonight (no small feat there)before we meet them tomorrow!
Bring on the CANES!!! GO HABS GO!

I have one name for you: Higgins!!!!!!!!!! He will be the Habs biggest star for years to come.
November 1, 2006 at 12:05 pm
Guys,,
I hate to say “I told you so”, but I told you so that Higgs is the real deal. Working with him and Komiserak, I have seen their tremdendous commitment to getting to the next level. Both have put in hard hours of physical and mental training that is needed to be a champion!!!! You are just seeing the end result. I included the link for you to check out to see some of their off season work. http://www.institute3e.com

I too was amazed with Latendresse….and that Kovalev line sure did some fancy footwork. But our defense was totally out to lunch again. I know Ninny did some good shots on net but hey it would help if it was not on the Habs, someone should remind Ninny he is wearing the red white and blue.
November 1, 2006 at 1:04 pm
another greAt performance from KOIVU (SARCASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I cant wait till HIGGINS REPLACES HIM!
I THINK WE NEED TO BUY OUT THE REST OF KOIVU’S CONTRACT AND TELL HIM TO RETIRE OR STEP ASIDE FOR WHILE BECAUSE SINCE HIS INJURY HE JUST ISN’T THE SAME ON THE ICE (EXCLUDING LOCKER ROOM , THE HEART HE SHOWS , AND WHATEVER EXCUSES ANYONE CAN THINK OF) HE’S SORT OF LIKE A OLD TIMER THESE DAYS HE JUST HAS THE NAME BUT THATS IT. ITS TOO BAD WE LOST HIM
ABBY WAS AMAZING AGAIN YESTERDAY
KOVALEV , SAMSONOV AND PEREZHOGIN WERE VERY GOOD
HIGGINS SHOULD BE THE NEW CENTERMAN 1st LINE(HE PROVES IT EVERY GAME)
MAYBE KOIVU SHOULD PLAY WITH KOVALEV ON 2nd line with PEREZHOGIN,
AND PUT SAMSANOV WITH RYDER AND HIGGINS
KOIVU’S DONE ON THE FIRST LINE SINCE THE INJURY HE JUST CAN’T KEEP UP OR PRODUCE
PS. DONT START BASHING ME BECAUSE I SAID SOMETHING ABOUT MR.PERFECT (KOIVU)MAYBE SOME PEOPLE DON’T AGREE WITH ME BUT THATS WHY IM ENTITLED TO MY OWN OPINION AND THE STATS AND GAMES ARE THERE TO PROVE IT
I DON’T MAKE EXCUSES FOR THE KOIVU
November 1, 2006 at 1:17 pm
mab, are you nuts? Who do you think set’s up all of Ryder and Higgins’s goals? He has 10 points in 11 games. That’s pretty damn good production if you ask me. He’s dynamite on the PK with Higgins.
And Sure he isn’t much of a goal scorer. He get’s tons of chances but dosen’t bury them because he’s not a good shooter, he’s a playmaker. He’s been worth the money so far. You want a #1 centre who set’s guys up and that’s what he does.
Higgins is a better winger than centre cause he’s a good shooter, good shooter’s belong on the wing.
November 1, 2006 at 1:47 pm
Without Koivu, the team would be like a ship without a rudder. They’d be lost. That’s not only a fact, it’s physics
In spite of his “percieved” lack of production on the ice, he brings to this team real value which comes only with a dedication and a commitment to a cause and this cause is to bring a stanley cup to MTL.
November 1, 2006 at 2:03 pm
I see your points Habs #1 and Gumper, but i have to agree with mab on this one. Koivu is done. He looks terrible out there and a playmaker should at least be able to hold on to the puck, stickhandle and make difficult passes and plays. Once Koivu gets that thing, he fumbles and bumbles with it and usually loses it. The way he’s getting his points this year is by getting second assists or simple first ones on plays created entirely by Higgins, Ryder or a D-man. He only scores when it’s virtually impossible to miss and that’s rare. I think he’s had a good career in Montreal and served well as a captain, but his tenure should be over.
By the way GP, nice work with the two young guns. Komisarek looks way better this year, even confidence-wise, and nothing needs to be said about Higgins.
November 1, 2006 at 2:16 pm
Hey Mab, OK we buy out Koivu’s contract and then we get who to replace him?????? He is better than average(at worst) and a heart and soul kind of guy of old (and we know they are a dime a dozen around the league) and replace him with what? On another note, It hasn’t been for a long time I could say that win or lose this is an exciting team that I love to watch!
GO HABS!!!! …. And you too Saku!
November 1, 2006 at 2:40 pm
HEy Habs 1;
We dont agree on much but we will always have Higgins as our bonding point. Great player!!!! I would not trade him straight up for Gagne. Only positives from last night. ALthough there was a few weak calls against us in the 2nd but we fought through it. Time to get revenge on the Canes.
November 1, 2006 at 3:04 pm
Listen, some of you think the NHL is like your little video game but it ain’t so give up the Koivubashing and general malaise over every detail and be happy this team keeps winning more than losing AND IS ENTERTAINING! These players are human and aren’t going to perform like robots in your little xbox games so appreciate what you got and quit trading or demoting every player every time he has a subpar (in your opinion) performance. Some of you make me ashamed to be a Habs fan (if you want to act like spoiled know-it-alls, move to Toronto and join ‘Leaf Nation’)…
November 1, 2006 at 3:56 pm
Can’t complain about the game too much. But, please, Don’t play that same old *** song everytime the Canadiens score a goal!! It’s embarrasing to the city!
TRADE the DJ for the one in Boston or something. TRADE TRADE TRADE!!

Hockey chick have you met “bringing **** back”?He might be your man lol
November 1, 2006 at 5:58 pm
Good Lord, please delete that post or remove the Tel # before this ***** (or pseudo-*****) gets any takers.
BTW,.. Well phrased post smiler2729.
I thought the Habs played a pretty solid game all around last night against Ottawa. My hats off to Komisarek. He’s worked on his game and its paying off. He looks far more composed out there than last year.
November 1, 2006 at 6:36 pm
Not only is this a Habs blog but it now doubles as an escort service! Wow. Now the operator (Habs Blog) has an excuse to start charging people to use this site. You’re quite the entrepreneur my friend.
But seriously, Hockey*Chick*101′s entry is like writing on the walls of a public washroom stall, creepy, probably fake, and just plain weird. However the human urge to read cannot be stopped.
You’re 17! What’s wrong with you? Go home and do your homework!
November 1, 2006 at 6:44 pm
Wow a chick who gets horny from watching habs games! Too bad she is 17 and probably not even a chick.
November 1, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Is it just me or does anybody eles think it might be that (leafs fan or habs suk morons)but i could be wrong because they might be at home playing with their gerbils
November 1, 2006 at 11:04 pm
this blog should be restricted to decent, serious hockey fans, and not to idiots who have nothing better to do, than waste people’s time with comments unattributed to hockey, and no concept of what is transpiring on this site; also, they are totally uneducated to the game of hockey, and their comments are distasteful and meaningless!
November 2, 2006 at 3:14 am
Calm down guys! Thats the most intelligent thing a leaf fan has said since this blog started. Trading *** to watch the Habs play hockey. Really, what more does a Leaf fan have to offer?
GO HABS

Hey Gary Parks:
Maybe you could do some work on Guillaume!
@ Jay: Developing talent is best done in either the QJMHL or AHL. We could do a lot better than this guy.
November 3, 2006 at 2:07 pm
Jey I have two tickets to the game on Saturday. Where is that hooker? I have alot of fun planned for afterwards!
