Habs fight back

  • The Canadiens showed last night that they can still play hockey from time to time. They actually looked like hockey players, playing as a team and they managed a huge win. A win while coming from two goals down, something they haven’t done in a long time.

Aebischer let in the first goal and then another on a penalty shot and it started to look like the same old story for the Canadiens.

It didn’t look great when a cold Mike Dunham comes off the bench, having not started in 19 games and stoned the Canadiens on 3-4 good scoring chances. Basically outshining Aebischer at that point.

The Habs key players started doing their job.

The best game by far in a long time for Guillaume Latendresse, Michael Ryder, Chris Higgins and Andrei Kostitsyn. Hopefully this is something they can build on and produce consistently down the final stretch.

Yvon Pedenault made a great point, letting us know Guillaume Latendresse now has more goals than Alex Kovalev. One is a rookie, one is a veteran earning over $4 million.

The log jam is even tighter now with 5 teams within only 2 points of each other. All of a sudden the Islanders don’t look so secure anymore. Especially with the future of Rick DiPietro uncertain. They are by no means safe. Which is good news for the Habs.

Nice little article on Kostitsyn on I thought i read somewheres that he was suffering from ceizures for a time, and this slowed his progress at first. Anyone know for sure?

Ya, thats the only reson montreal was able to pick him up 10th overral, he was ranked third overall by ISS but lots of teams were afraid of drafting him. Take calgary for example (this might piss off some people) they had the nith overall pick in the same draft and decided they were going to go with a guy by the name of…DION PHANEUF

    R Habs 4, Bobby Baun actually had a broken leg…and played !!
and how about Bobby Hull he had a broken arm and pieces of broken off stick jammed up into his gums…but didn’t miss a beat….
nowdays guys fall over to try and draw a penalty, used to be that players
would always try and hide their pain, they had some honour and would not give in and let the other guy know he was hurt, now there are flakes all over the place.

But we are still in the hunt..gotta keep supporting our Habs, thought I seen above Bonk and Kovalev not going on the road, hopefully scumbag samso not either

and I got to thinking I can never remember a Habs team with an “OV’ or an “EV’

Its a good sign. That the crazy habs are uniting, and aren’t they saying they have a bad case of verbal diaherrea!

The bad news is that Gainey has not used this time to call up some more reinforcements. Maybe a bad loss to Pittsburgh would finally convince him that the rookies are ready and that we don’t need to resign Koivu, Kovalev, Samsonov and Johnson.

By the way, Bonk and Plekanec have kept us alive, why do you count Bonk as a waste of money? Compared to Johnson, who does nothing, and don’t forget Dandy and Bouilly as some of the lazy underachievers, Bonk sure has put in a lot of hard time and along with Pleks and the rookies have kept the mere notion that we could with a miracle make it into the playoffs!

By the way, bend over one more time folks, we got the Laffs to play on Saturday and unless Gainey brings up some heavy hitters we are in for a shit kicking! And its not gonna be courtesy of Kovalev neither, it’ll be at the hands of TSN and Bob Cole and HNIC who have already awarded the cup yet one more time to the laffs! HAHAAHAHA….

Maybe we’ll get to see Toronto parade those old folgies and Don Cherry can play those old black and whites!

Its sad when Hockey doesn’t recognize the talent of our rookies, and like us we and the media concentrate on the overpaid millionairres who have been a great disappointement, along with Gainey’s lack of judgement, and Carbo’s horrible picks for line combinations and worst still relying on Abby!

  13. Damn! I knew it was too good to last! Everyone go back to being miserable, please! He’s back (post 112)! Pretend you were not having a good time after all.

Even worse, TSN is reporting that Kovalev will be back for Saturday’s game. Oh, you hockey gods, why do you mock us so?

Good on Carbo to sit Kovalev and Samsanov last game! I think it is important to send the message that no single player (and I mean NO PLAYER) is bigger than the proud Habs organization. I don’t care if the Habs don’t make the playoffs this year, but Carbo must do whatever it takes to put an end to the whining. Sammy has been a repeat offender so it appears that he cannot be trusted to ever come back to the lineup.

This is not an anti-Russian issue… It’s an anti-prima donna issue! Kostitsyn, Markov and Perezhogin are welcome on the club provided that they show the same heart and effort in order to earn their future millions that the players that used to play on the Red Army showed in order to earn their basic necessities.

This is also not an anti-European issue… I repeat that Koivu is not comparable to these other guys. It is sick that we allow anyone to say that about a Habs captain. This little guy gets injured frequently (real injuries too), but he also hits, plays with heart and leads the team in scoring. Get a REAL big center to share some of the load, and a REAL goon to deal with those who continually take liberties with the Habs’ capatin, and watch what happens for next season.

  14. #14 Joshtm says:
    March 15, 2007 at 11:53 pm

Well, if Kovalev is surfing the net to find out about his vertigo, and his only response is things he can do with his brain, it doesn’t look good folks! Either that or he is using it as an excuse.

None the less, he has been a big disappointment, he hasn’t had a serious injury all year, next we’ll hear Gainey say Kovalev can’t play cause he got split ends and until they can find a good shampoo to cure his hair, he will be benched, and that is after they can cure his dry scalp problem…hmmm..shades of Theodore eh?

At least the good news is that Montreal if it wises up, that is Koivu has to be threatened with serious bodily injury if he gets those stupid hooking penalties, nay, deportation back to his shithole across the water…

If we can’t make the playoffs this year, at least we can’t blame Lapresse or the Quebec tax man. We can blame Kovalev’s vertigo and his dry scalp and gingivitis and lets not forget those split hair ends…someone get Kovalev a good manicurist and hairdresser so he can play….

Only in Montreal do they blame the media and the tax man for bringing in crappy players, oh no, we can’t blame the scouts, the GM for signing these people, only in Montreal does Lapresse and the Taxman sign hockey players to play.

Rob you are pathetic you know that?

Koivu is about the biggest waste of money, sure he hits, but hey, its sad. I guess you don’t mind if someone steals your home from under your nose eh Rob! You just don’t see it do you? If we continue to rely on Koivu we will be like the Laffs! Oh wait, Rob only likes it when the habs lose and are pathetic, he is only too happy when we are all whining and losing eh Rob? Where the hell are you when the habs win? I never see you post after a victory, if there is any gripe its you Rob!

No, Koivu has to go. Keeping him on, will only mean that the other team has the license to own shut down the habs time after time. It’ll mean Koivu will get pissed off cause he gets the crap beaten outa him and he’ll retaliate and get a stupid penalty!

I for one am tired of watching Koivu get all those stupid penalties! He never gets in the box for dropping gloves, never gets in there for boarding, or for any of those nasy penalties…he nickles and dimes his penalty minutes. Every game we might as well as Bettman to just set six minutes aside for Koivu to sit in the penalty box, cause hey that’s Koivu. When has he not got a hooking penalty?

That takes away from the momentum of the game and provides the wrong kind of leadership.

  16. Joshtm:

Three things make me think that you must work for the provincial government in Quebec:

    1. The amount of effort that you put in trying to defend the Taxman in Quebec.

    2. The crazy stuff that comes out of your mouth.

    3. The vast amount of time that you have to spend on this site instead of doing any productive work!

Just kidding, joshtm. We all know and sympathize about your childhood issues plus those Steve Penney rants that you do are just priceless.

Only Rob believes the Gainey is forced at gunpoint by the likes of Samsonov, to sign crap like him, or that Lapresse and the taxman force Bob Gainey not to sign superstars!!!!

Too bad Rob has to stoop so low as to say crap like as if he knew people’s childhood issues….shows that Rob has been shown, has been proved wanting, and proved that Rob has no good point to make. Maybe Rob, it is time you got some help to resolve your unfortunate childhood, aka dalley, aka mommas titboy etc….

So Rob, are you a witness, can you go on TSN and prove that Bob Gainey was forced at gunpoint to sign Samsonov, that it was a conspiracy by the media and the taxman to sign crappy players? Oh wait, we can’t forget the other conspiracy of the horrible landlords who just won’t give NHL players a decent apartment or house to live in….any other excuses I forgot here….oh yes, the dynasty is over.

Last time I looked Gillett when the bought the habs only had one request, that the habs win a stanley cup. He didn’t say, oh make all these great excuses, like food poisoning, vertigo, the flu and don’t forget Lappresse and the Quebec Taxman as excuses for waisting close to 50 million dollars on hockey players.

Anywhere else in the NHL, 50 million dollars worth of hockey players at least nets you players who show up in the top 50 overall, what do we have in Montreal, multimillionaire hockey players who rank in the last 100 out of 835 hockey players!

  18. Joshtm:

I am sort of starting to sense that you may have some issues with this Bob Gainey fellow… just a hunch?

A team can still win without superstars. Last time that I checked Buffalo was still at the top of the conference playing and winning without nine of their regular starters.

I know that you and Jack Todd would both be very happy with uni-dimensional players like Ovechkin in Montreal (-19, so far) potting 100+ point season and ending up in second to last place. It doesn’t really matter if a player scores a hat trick if the player’s team loses 7-5, joshtm. It’s a T-E-A-M sport, and the results are determined on the ice by 12 forwards, eight defensemen, and 2 goaltenders. On the ice, and not actually in Bob Gainey’s office, joshtm.

It’s not like Bob Gainey actually has these guys on strings, and that he moves their arms and legs for them. As Samsanov and Kovalev have illustrated, he certainly doesn’t open and close their mouths and talk for them… It’s a good thought though! Maybe that is what Gainey needs to start doing… I will give a call on that tomorrow morning.

  19. #19 Joshtm says:
    March 16, 2007 at 1:32 am

Oh Gee Rob. I guess one day Samsonov kind of just appeared out of thin air!

That Bob Gainey had nothing to do with getting him here.

Or in assembling a sorry bunch of hockey players…oh no, a GM doesn’t do that eh Rob? Only in Montreal do hockey players come and go at their own pleasure, they are voted in by Lapresse and the Quebec Taxman, the habs organization has nothing whatsoever to do with getting this bunch together eh Rob?

I guess if you don’t get it, you don’t get it. Why waste time trying to point out to you, this sorry bunch of players got here somehow.

I guess to your thinking, the Montreal Canadians is a democracy, hockey players decide for themselves who they will have play for them, and that management has not say in the matter.

Most other teams, the GM when they are pissed off at players does something about it. Ergo, the last bunch of unsigned hockey players that Gainey could have kept but chose not to. Instead Bob chose to bring the present bunch, largely the whole bunch together.

Chances are Rob, if the players played pretty badly before they came to Montreal, guess what, they are gonna play badly here. Look at Ragdoll Ninnima, or Samsonov, or Kovalev, and of course Abby, none of the other teams wanted this bunch.

Isn’t it funny that you would think that Bob has strings attached on these players. Actually he does, its called a contract. For some it comes under a UFA, others are called something else, but a contract is a contract.

And it comes with a pretty big string that has a lot of money attached to it. In Montreals case a lot of money compared to what other teams pay for crap.

Now crawl back into your gutter Rob and leave hockey to those fans who actually love the habs enough to demand better bang for the buck.

Of all the places along the 401, you chose Cornwall. I really hope it was for a good cause. I’ve been living in Kelowna BC for the last six years, and refuse to go back to that whole in the ground. the only good thing about Cornwall is Dale Hawerchuk, the Cornwall Aces and Royals. Good nite for our playoff push Thursday, as the isles and canes both lost. Now, if we can win these two weekend games we’ll be in good shape. We’ve won 2 and lost 1 in OT or a shootout to the pens this year, and we’re tied in the series vs the laffs, so winnable games they are. A minimum of 1 pt vs the pens, and a regulation V against TO on saturday, for a total of 3, are essential if we are to make the post season.

Sad thing is, I have no faith in Aebischer to win these games, as he hasn’t stolen one for us since October. So we’ll have to score in bunches, probably. Not something we’ve done much of this season, i know. But if the power play is clickin’, and we get a good 5 on 5 effort, we should be good.

Heard we might be getting Kovertalev back Sat. vs the leafs. Don’t know if that’s a good thing or not; likely not. But if he plays like he did his last game out(vs STL)he won’t hinder us too badly. It makes me truly sad to see a guy with so much talent, skill I never had, waste it the way this guy does. When he was quoted as saying he wants every line he’s on to be the top line, it makes me wish it was more than just words in the wind.

Bob Gainey is the best General Manager the Canadiens have had since Sam Pollock (Serge Savard made some good trades but his draft picks from the late ’80s on sucked… Lindsay Vallis? Brent Bilodeau?? Terry Ryan???) Accept it joshtm.

Alexei Kovalev is the best player on the Habs. Some question his work ethic but I think desire is more his problem or the fact that he only likes playing in games that matter. I don’t love this guy but I don’t hate him either, he is what he is and we all know that and should accept it. Look at his career stats and they’re not amazing other than those two seasons in Pittsburgh.

David Aebischer is NOT a good goaltender. He plays like he’s scared and doesn’t react to the puck preferring to play that robotic positional-on-your-
knees-and-hope-it-hits-you crap. It’s hard for a team to play in front of goalie that they have no faith in. All one’s hard work can be erased in a second with Abby, witness the Sabres 8-5 win 2 weeks ago.

Guy Carbonneau will become a great coach once he learns how to handle his players’ egos. The Samsonov thing is unfortunate but at least it wasn’t a Patrick Roy/Mario Tremblay repeat where our superstar player is totally fucked over by a equally egotistical coach. I don’t think Carbo’s got that mindset but I hope he finds a common ground with the players. I just wish he would use the players based on their ability i.e. let the skaters skate, the scorers score and the checkers check instead of trying to paint them all with one swoop into a team system. Last time I checked, the Habs won a Stanley Cup with that sort of coach (Jacques Demers).

    Gut feeling for the weekend…
Montreal, 5, Pittsburgh 4 tonight and Montreal 4, Toronto 2 Saturday.

PS. Like to see more rookie fuel added to the fire (Milroy, Chipchura and Grabovsky… not all at once but you get my drift)

I am with you Smiler on Halak… we can not give up on such a young talent and if we have a fierce battle with PITT, as I suspect from the results of every other match this year verses them, we may need a fresh mind and body between the posts.

This back to back weekend is against teams we have played intense playoff level hockey and we need nothing less from our beloved habs this go around.

They Leafs have not played Halak and don’t know much about him. I’d say go for it.

I see Dalley’s fall from his vertigo has him thinking he is a Dr. again, and thinks people are all in the same place he is, common symptom of a severely mentally ill NHL hockey player who owns his own plane, I am speaking to you Mr. Dalley, since you were there during the hockey trade deadlines and you also signed Samsonov, don’t worry Mr. Bob Gainey will make sure he locks up the Belle Centre, just make sure you take your pills, and don’t chaff your pampers now…amazing what Vertigo will do a severely mental case like Dalley…

  47. Nice to see everybody’s at their laser pointer finest, this is one of the most dangerous sights in Blogdom. This game is the game of the year and what’s even better is it’s been primed from their last meeting.Keep your eye’s out for Georges Laroque and Gary Roberts ,and on the habs , Lapierre is due for some big time shit disturbing, geeze I wonder who he’s going to pick on ?lol. Win or lose this is going to be a war ,and should set a new tempo between these two teams for years too come.Time to really bring it Habs !!!

Joshtm, just take a long hard look at some of the comments that you Sir, have said in here.

Now who truly is a mental case ??????

You bash every one that doe snot agree with you.

I am only giving you a taste of your own medicine……….That’s all. I do not bash anyone else in here.

It looks like that you have some one who can trow it back at you.

Having said that… Are you ready to end this shit right now ??? I will if you agree not to bash anyone else ok…….

Leafs suck. Should be one word, Leafsuck. They can offically add it to their name… The Toronto Maple Leafsucks… Or is it Toronto Arenas? Or Toronto St.Pats?? So many name changes since your inception, isn’t it time for another? How about the Toronto Torontos since you guys love yourselves so much.

Maple Leafs isn’t even correct grammar, the plural of maple leaf is Maple Leaves… dumbasses.
