Habs Leafs #2
-
Not much needs to be said when these two teams meet.
The Leafs played last night and lost in New Jersey, but they usually find a way to up their game in Montreal and tonight should be no different.
Or should it? The Canadiens are only 3 points back of the Conference leading Ottawa Senators and have been playing excellent hockey.
The powerplay in particular has been lethal and the Leafs penalty kill is a quite mediocre 21st in the league.

- Senet1 : seriously ready to challenge for the cup. He will us win games but he will not be the difference between winning the cup and not winning the cup. You pick up players like that once you have the team ready to challenge,.
- Senet1 : I am looking at the players to draft and there are a lot of big 6'3-6'5 forwards available ion the draft this year. If we could draft 3-4 big young players in the 2nd and 3rd round why would you want to give that up for a roster player who may have 2-3 years at best. If we are going to build a winner to have to build it with bigger players and there are a lot of good big players available this year. So you sign Ott and he is with us for the short run, but probably not when we are seriously re
- Senet1 : Boullion is a great mentor for the young D-men
- muller93 : Boullion is one of MBs great additions--Boull ion is a definite Keeper.
- muller93 : Getting rid of Kaberle frees up a lot of cash. Boullion is small but is reliable and doesn't back down from anyone.
- muller93 : Exactly Goalie any thoughts on a punishing D-man?
- goalie : They;re showing determination adn skill vs Ducks and Blackhawks.
- goalie : REd Wings could turn out to be the surprise team of this year's playoffs!
- goalie : WE need to rid our team of Kaberle and Webber. Step two would be to then move Diaz. If we get that big d-man I believe that would push Boullion to # 7 on the chart. We'd then go with Georges, PK,Markov (to continue mentoring Ememlin) Tinordi as our starting six . THEN I'd be excited about our chances. We could then work on getting bigger forwards.
- goalie : I too would gladly give up a 3rd round pick for Ott- the type of player we sadly lack. AND if we could get one more rugged, expeienced defenceman it would help immensely.
- muller93 : Senet what you are saying makes sense but if we can get Ott for a 3rd round I'll take that all day.
- muller93 : MB should be looking at a big D-man first, even though I like our blue line with the addition of Tinordi. We need that insurance just in case one gets injured. Also I'm a firm believer in starting with the goalie first then-defense-for wards-and we already have good goalie. We have all noticed when we have the lead Price is tough to beat.
- Senet1 : So sometimes you have to sacrifice for one year or two to build that team in the draft. then add the finishing touches through FA and trades.
- Senet1 : Muller, Detroit is another good example. They have been in the hunt every year with good well balanced teams yet only one or two cups to show for it. However, they have built a team that has a chance every years for the last 10+ years. That is what I think we have a chance to do this year with a good draft. It reminds me of the habs teams of the mid 80 and 90's we built a team then with sold draft picks and won the cup twice during that time period. So sometimes you have to sacrifice a one
- muller93 : Very true Senet, you do need luck and we haven't had any luck it seems since the habs moved to the Bell Center. We had an incredible run in 2010 with some crazy goal tending from Halak. With Galchenyuk-Tinor di-Gallagher all in 1 year--not too bad, even with an early exit in the playoffs.
- Senet1 : Muller I guess we all have our own ideas, but there has never been too many times that were successful when they traded their draft picks away. We have a chance to build this team so we have a shot at winning the cup over the next 10 years. Even as good as Pittsburgh has been they have only won the cup once since Crosby and Malkin have been with the team. That is because you not only need great players but you need luck to win, but one thing about Pittsburgh they have a chance every year. The
- muller93 : Good point on Torres, he might be a liability. Torres has to tone it down a bit, but that's his game-very aggressive.
- goalie : Though I don't condone what Raffi Torres did - thos shows you how repeat offenders or near offenders are going to be treated. His hit was NOT illegal BUT what the rap sheet adn reputation Torres has he got severly punished. Lesson to be learned by OTHER players because Torres dopesn't learn fromk his mistakes.
- muller93 : Senet normally I would agree with you on not trading draft picks but we are not in a rebuilding stage. Sometimes draft picks can be a roll of the dice and it can take up to 3 years to be NHL ready. We have a good team and I agree with Stuo players like Clowe-Torres-Ott -Scott will make a big difference. Somebody has to protect Gallagher, he can't keep getting hit the way does--we need a tough forward so they think twice before going after Gallagher.
- Senet1 : Really a heathly Habs team would probably win more games against the Pens that we did against the Sens. Reason they Pens would not play as physical against us as against the Sens. If we get good goaltending we win at least two games.
- zpezada4ok : hello all «link»
- stuo11 : hes a tougher big guy too! Just a minor adjustment but will help a bit
- stuo11 : hes better than markov, and hes french who was in mention for defenceman of the year
- goalie : Markov for Beauchemin - an injury prone d-man for an ;old timer'd-man. Beauchemin is NOT what the Habs need in my opinion. He is a HUGE defensive liability.
- goalie : Stuo 11 I'd make that trade with Oilers fast BUT I doubt the Oilers will make that. Two marginal d-men at the best for a switch of first round picks - not a chance .
- stuo11 : markov for beachemin?
- stuo11 : let moen go
- stuo11 : maybe try and get steve begin back
- stuo11 : we wouldve kicked out all other teams but pens, sens,
- stuo11 : pens have alot of forwaRDS same with us but we have better goaltending
- stuo11 : theres styles of play goalie. Sens played us good, but lost games to southeast teams florida and tampa and get crushed by leafs EVERYTIME. sens and leafsd cant beat bruins but we do frequently
- stuo11 : Diaz weber and our 1st for their first edm
- goalie : SEns beat us 4 games to 1. Pens had last night's game under their control. What does that mean if we were up vs the Pens in a series. I think the Habs have a way to go before we're competing for Lord Stanley's Cup!
- Senet1 : If he could score goals like Lucic and we could sign him to a four year contract then I would consider it too. However, NOT if we only have him for one to two years.
- Senet1 : So we went from 27th pick to 21st pick.

7-1 Habs.
November 3, 2007 at 3:46 pm
I think tie, going into overtime, and we win in OT or shootout
November 3, 2007 at 3:51 pm
i would love to see the habs win but we all know never to under estimate what the laffs can do when facing the habs no matter how bad they are playing but that being said if we play the way we did against philly we should win …………4-2 habs with a empty net goal…GO HABS GO
November 3, 2007 at 5:28 pm
who’s starting in goal today?
November 3, 2007 at 5:29 pm
3-1 habs
November 3, 2007 at 6:24 pm
If Ryder craps out tonite it should be Bulldog fine tuning time for him Carbo. It’s fall;time to make a pile of maple leafs AND BURN THEM!!!!!HABS ARE NO.1…………..
November 3, 2007 at 9:41 pm
When the F%^K is Carbo gonna wake up and put Price in net against the Leafs???? Has he lost his F%$*kin’ mind???? Geeeeez. Smell the coffee. Huet is TOO small to stand up against a big team. I could have told you they were gonna lose as soon as Huet was in net. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great goalie, but NOT AGAINST THE LEAFS!
November 3, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Ryder and Begin was a NO SHOW !!! Send him down and bring up Lapierre and whom-ever.Allso Huet might need glasses, lol… Watch out Huey,Halac is going to replace you!
November 3, 2007 at 9:48 pm
as long as Huet is our goalie, we will win N O T H I N G!
He should never have been in goal. He never beats the leafs! Price needs to be in goal. Huet is simply horrible! Every goal the leafs scored, were SOFT GOALS! Huet can’t even clear the puck from behind his net! He’s always down! I knew that when I heard Huet was playing tonight, we would lose! aren’t you people tired of always losing to Toronto? I’m sick of it! just sick of it!
If Price had played, we would have won, FOR SURE! And what the hell is Carbo doing putting Latendresse on the PP? he has to go, to Hamilton. And Ryder has to be traded. the 2 of them on the PP spells DISASTER! The habs will go NOWHERE AS LONG AS HUET IS PLAYING GOAL. Huet, Aebischer, NO DIFFERENCE! the same ****!
November 3, 2007 at 9:54 pm
Huet has played well…but certainly not tonight, 2 soft goals and the game was over.
BUT…..also remember….how many hockey games are ya gonna win when you
can’t score 5 on 5?
not many and we have shown that all season
November 3, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Carbo just said in his post game show, that:”Huet wishes he had all 3 of those goals back”. In other words, HUET COST US THE GAME! HUET ALSO PREVENTED US FRONM MAKING THE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR! AND HUET WAS IN GOAL THE LAST TIME WE LOST TO THE LEAFS! He can’t make the big save, but Toskala can! Let’s face it, despite their losing record, the leafs are BETTER than the habs! Otherwise we would beat them. But we never beat the leafs! And by the end of the season, the leafs WILL FINISH aHEAD OF US! And the leafs had 4 regulars missing, and played last night!
November 3, 2007 at 10:11 pm
Man this loss is very depressing, 1:34 left, 3 bad goals, not a good night for Huet.
November 3, 2007 at 10:17 pm
k chevy4ch, let’s not exaggerate and say that the Leafs are better than the Canadiens now… granted, Huet should NEVER have been in net tonight. Carbo was doing a good job in goalie selection up until tonight, hoever, he likely felt that Huet needed a win against the Leafs. He went with his heart INSTEAD of in HEAD. If Price was in tonight… we won the game, plain and simple.
Still VERY early in the season folks. PLenty more hockey to screw up!~ LOL
November 3, 2007 at 10:48 pm
I’m listening to Ron Reusch on the team 990, and he said 3 of the last 4 goals Huet allowed, including the the last goal Philly scored on Thursday, were to his gove side, medium up. So apparently, Huet can’t stop pucks to his glove side. And when was the last time Huet beat the leafs?????????????
Carbo is truly BRAIN DEAD!!!!!!!! The problem with this team is, THEY CAN’T SCORE 5 ON 5 ! So, if you noticed tonight, we has very few PP’s, and without PP’s habs can’t win! we just don’t have enough talent. every line is weak. on the 1st line, Ryder is the problem. On the 2nd line, it’s just Kovalev and Plekanec. Forget the 3rd and 4th lines because they’re checking lines. NOT ENOUGH TALENT! Ryder and Latendresse have to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 4, 2007 at 3:30 am
Huet that piece of sh@t, that piece of ****! Thanks again for showing us how you can win the “BIG” games.
Go home assh@le! How many more times do you have to fail us fu@k off!
November 4, 2007 at 3:34 am
Huet plays well, Huet is awesome, Huet is this, Huet is that. SHUT UP ABOUT THIS CRAPY BACKUP piece of ****!
Every time, every year. Thanks again assh@le! Another Leaf loss get the f@ck outta town!
November 4, 2007 at 7:42 am
Can you guys take a downer! Huet was also the reason the last time we made it to the playoffs…don’t get me wrong I can’t believe the 1st and last goals went in and the 2nd goal of the last game but we had the majority of play in the Leaf’s zone in the third period. One play and one shot and they had the lead/win. The Habs played better and probably should have won but it is one more game. It sure as hell would have been nice to pull out the win, it just couldn’t happen.
Ryder is not playing in sync with the game, out of position or a step behind, not in the right place etc. Latendresse should be positioned in front of the net and stir up sh%t and then only bring him on when the team needs energy and he has to hit anyone around him with the puck.
Yeah I’m freakin upset but enough on Huet. Both goalies can give soft calls but for the most part have played well. Tonight’s game was close and the Habs have been in all their games this season and mainly due to the goalies play. Let’s finish off our plays and that will make the difference! Go Habs Go!!
November 4, 2007 at 10:12 am
We should have won that game. Tronto triped soooo many players for montreal and there was no penalty and then they get a crappy leafs style goal.
November 4, 2007 at 11:11 am
Horrible game.. all three of torontos goals should never have happened. and the reffing wasnt that good either, especially near the end of the game. montreal should have won that game.
November 4, 2007 at 1:22 pm
ok, so here’s the story. Every year we have 1 crappy goalie that kills us and loses games for us. 2 years ago it was Theodore, last year it was Aebischer(and Huet), and this year it’s HUET! Last year we couldn’t score 5 on 5, and the same problem this year! Last year our PP was great, and the same this year! But you can’t just rely on the PP. What happens if we don’t get any PP’s?
Gainey has done NOTHING to improve this team! SCORING 5 ON 5 IS STILL OUR PROBLEM! SHOWING UP EVERY GAME IS STILL OUR PROBLEM! HUET IS STILL OUR PROBLEM! HAVING 2 SCORING LINES IS STILL OUR PROBLEM! Why doesn’t GAINEY ever do something to remedy this situation? I’m sure he has no problem cashing his checks every 2 weeks? If he doesn’t pull a trade to get rid of Huet and Ryder, and doesn’t demote Latendresse to Hamilton, and bring up Lapierre, then expect the same result as last year! This team, despite their good record, has lost 2 of the last 3 on home ice, and is about to have a brutal schedule for November. If we **** out in November, you’ll be seeing the real habs-the ones like last Dec-April! I think we’re headed in a downward spiral. It’s in Gainey’s hands now!
November 4, 2007 at 2:14 pm
chevy is a piece of ignorant trash.obviously you never played at a high level. Huet was an all star last year and he did that with all star stats and being yanked everygame for letting in 2 or 3 goals..the guy should have no confidence because h coaches don;t stand beind him and build confidence…
he made all star eve though he played less gamesthan all the other number ones…we didnyt make the playoffs last year cause we suck simple as that..and he was injured and it wasn’t his choice to start…he has been amazing this year and earned the #1 job…Price is playing fine and he will get many years to be number 1…**** i hate you bandwagon fans..the guy is the only reason we made the playoffs the year before..and he is 5-2 this year and you will throw him to the sdogs because he let in 3 goals?? what about all the unbelievable saves he did make? his glove.what abouthis amazing glove save??? sundin’s goal was fluke garbage…..he shoul have had th first an the last goal went in because streit puts his stick in the way and huet never saw it come off his stick and it was a knuckleball….even if ihe should have had it..he made 30 saves and we should b so lucky to have a guy with gaa and sv % that is top 3 in the league…..no wonder the stars won’t pla in montreal…..the guy is not a robot..he is a human who is not perfect…look at luongo..huet has way better stats than him but you don’y hear anyone saying get rid of luongo or brodeur…the has should make it clear huet is number 1 and get him right back in net and keep his confidence up….if they start playing price more it’s gonna turn nto another needless goalie controversy…and huet will feel more pressure and he won;t play well and it will distract the whole team…so insead of whining and being an idiot , how about thanking him for helping the habs tak 11 out of 12 points during their streak…Toronto would love to have huet…..god…..idiots
November 4, 2007 at 3:24 pm
#21 Iceberg…Thank You
Huet has really played pretty darn well, the problem is the team in front of
him doesn’t have enough fire power to blow it’s nose. The people in the know rant on how about how talented kovalev is, how many times has he scored more than 30 in a season ?? Saku in Montreal is like Linden in Vancouver, both
are incredible community people, but on ice performacne is lacking, although Saku does score a little more than Linden, but that performance doesn’t bring home the silverware. And let’s not blame Gainey for everything Chevy, he tried to bring Briere and others, but they don’t want to play in Quebec’s fish bowl and tax structure–I think they should love to play in Montreal to show case their talents, the tax structure wipes out that positive with a huge negative,
lets not blame Gainey for all the ills of the world.
November 4, 2007 at 4:10 pm
To be honest guys yesterdays game can be blamed on huet.I am sure he will bounce back though. We cant compare huet to like likes of louongo or broduer lets get real now.Huet has not had any luck playing the leafs so i am sure next time we play then price will be there. This is what bugs me about some fans is that they look at the past to much.YES, huet helped us get into the playoffs two years ago but that was two years ago, this is a new season.Theodore won a couple of playoff rounds for us too at one point maybe we should get him back.Dont get me wrong guy i think huet is a great goalie but its alright to point out faults in players when they deserve it.He had a bad game end of story.Time to move on and get ready for the next one. GO HUET GO GO PRICE GO GO HABS GO
November 4, 2007 at 4:45 pm
Hey Iceburg: Huet better than Luongo???????? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Ha . Excuse me if I roll over laughing.Lucky to have Huet? That’s the best joke I’ve heard in years. Remember, moron, that Theodore won the hart trophy 1 year, and was booted outed of this city the next year because he was so so so BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Huet is no better, but alot worse!
Huet was the reason we didn’t make the playoffs last year. the 2nd half of last year he was simply horrible! So don’t tell me how good he is. He can’t even stop a puck to his glove hand. Everything to his glove hand goes in! And that 3rd goal last night, was NOT a deflection! He missed it, just like the 1st goal, and Philly’s 2nd goal on Tuesday night. Every hockey expert will tell you that he’s letting in 1 or 2 or 3 bad goals every single game! are you that blind? get glasses!
This team needs to have excellent goaltending every single game, because there isn’t enough talent to make up for a goalie’s mistake!
Some of you people are unbelievably stupid!
November 4, 2007 at 5:46 pm
are record is 7-3-3 remember
and the second goal was not huet’s fault!
November 5, 2007 at 10:01 am
Yeah. Our record is 7-3-3 = 7-6. Not too impressive. When are you guys gonna stop being happy with mediocrity?
November 5, 2007 at 10:20 am
Is there going to be this much crying every time this team loses a game. We are starting to sound like Leaf fans. Give me Huet and Price any day over Toskala and Raycroft. This team will finish from 6-8 in their conference but people they are not Ottawa and they will lose their share of games and you cannot start throwing players over board every time they lose. Gainey will make some tweeks to this team before the trade deadline that will make them a better team so be patient.
November 5, 2007 at 11:10 am
Actually, I would take Toskala any day of the week, but not Huet!
The fact that Carbo has not decided yet on which goalie to play tonight, has me worried. Carbo must really want to lose, if he choses Huet!
November 5, 2007 at 12:23 pm
I’d take Toskala! When your the backstop for an overacheaving team your job will be to consistitly bale out the team you play for and that requires unbreakable consentration.Huet is the best back-up in the N.H.L.
November 5, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Huet is starting tonight. Oh, my god! Carbo must have a death wish!
November 5, 2007 at 1:44 pm
Anybody think Ryder should be traded? I heard a rumor about an eastern division team interested in him. maybe package him with a goalie for a sniper
November 5, 2007 at 6:46 pm
what the hell is wrong with you guys? Huet is 5-2 and and has a great sv percentage and gaa. He was a huge part of our big streak!! He lets in 3goals and people want to crucify him? I don’t understand…not like he letting in 6 or 7 goals every game…then you can make commments like that…Hab fans have no appreiation or respect…I would want to quit afterthe way you are treating him….Price has played 3 games..He is 2-1 and in the pittsburgh gameit neve shouid have made it to Overtime…when he lets in a couple lousy goals( which happens to everygoalie from time to time no one dsys ****! I didn’t sa Huet was better than Luongo, I said he has far betterstats and a better record and wen the canucks lose,,or h has a bad game…no one blames him
IT’just montreal fans….if price lets in 6 goals and we win, he’ll be a saint….if huet lets in 2and we lose….he’s awful
we are playing great his year and to be honest, we have pretty ****** team and not lor of talent….why do you have to be so hateful cause we lost 3-2? He let in one bad goals…one out of 4 goals that a goalies lets in are’t good…streit fucked up and huet didnt see it come off hi stick….
we won’t win them all and are lucky to have the recordwe have with our team
jeez when kovlev underachieves the majority of games he has played for us over the years, we just ignore it and give him more ice time….he scores a couple pp goals ths year and we love him? stop being so hard on huet and start supportin him…he came and replaced theodore who sucks and helped us get through until price takes over
it takes time for a young goalie to develop, mentally and in terms of confidence….sometimes years…carbo is getting him use to the nhl slowly and he’ll be here for years……i dont get some of the comments on here
November 5, 2007 at 11:09 pm
huet got a shutout go move carbo!
you guys hate huet one day then like him next day.
i think huet is are shot at the playoffs.
November 5, 2007 at 11:20 pm
ice…good analysis…I wouldn’t agree that Price let’s 1 or 2 bad goals in and we’ll hail him….not likely. As far as players to trade, I’ve said that I think Tampa might have a look at what Montreal can provide for the services of Lecavalier. He hasn’t carried the team and so maybe with the right bait. Also I mentioned Sharks Patrick Marleau either directly or through a block buster trade…Looks like Ryder is playing to be moved….I see Jalak being shipped too. Just my 2 cents. Good results and not too panicky near the end. Also, stellar backstopping by Huet. That’s more like it. Even vs the Leafs, as pissed as I was on seeing those three goals go in, I have to give Huet the benefit of the doubt and allow for a bad or 2 games…he’s earned it!
He’s carried the team by far the most over the last 3 – 4 years. The talk of back up goalie should subside and you know giving both goalies ample opportunities is a good thing. So lay off and root for positives. I know I throw and rant too but do it with the likes of Kovalev (who’s being paid too much to not be heard from)…was he there tonight? I saw little glimpses of him during the Leaf game. Does he actually take a spot on the bench? If we would have the extra 1 or 2 goals (those ones that get through would not sour so much!!)
Go Habs Go….if they continue like this….wait a minute…where did all the talk of what’s his name…which guy is it again. Sour…Sour….pus…Souray. Oh yeah, too bad he’s recovering from something…Let’s see how long it takes him to dawn the jersey again. Last I saw Edmonton is still hurting. Look back I said they should have made a move for Cammalleri….too bad! Keep it up!
November 7, 2007 at 8:13 pm
put Murray on waiver’s and send him to Hamilton and bring up Sergei Kostitsyn to replace Ryder who should be benched!!!
November 7, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Doesn’t anybody remember the the two Kositisyns in the pre-Season with Grabovski.
the new NHL is about youth and speed!!!
