The Panthers look for revenge after dropping one to the Habs last week at home.
The panthers just kicked the pens asses, so we better be ready. I agree with Mats N. who posted on the last thread. We need to define what kind of team we are. Fast breakouts from the D to our speed/skill guys was our formula for success last year. Grinding teams wore us down; so Bob tried to toughen us up a bit (George) but also give us more punch (AlexT.) and two way play (Lang). The formula is good; we have to make it work. D’Agostini and Pacioretty are hopefully here to stay on the third line with Lang. Laraque on the 4th with Begin and Lapierre. That’s enough grit and talent once the top two lines get healthy and going. Maybe weber on D can replace Brisebois (or give me back O’Byrne). Subban looked amazing in the 3rd and OT last night; but he is small. All this should give us a hungry pressbox, which was another of our strengths last year.
Anyway, I say we beat Florida 6-4.
Habknot: pretty good prediction on the score. I’m really concerned with Halak’s play of late. He has been utterly terrible since Price got hurt. Not a pretty two points today, but a good sign to see some offense, and to see the young guys filling in for some pretty big players in our lineup. Both Kostitsyns, Lang, and Latendresse were particulary good.
Halak has worried me since he started this season, I was hoping that he would perform as well as Price but it seems that he lacks confidence and is fighting the puck. I guess i would give Denis some time. We cannot afford more games with poor goaltending.
Habknot, I agree with your assessment, we need to hold on right now until we get healthy again.
Now is the time to start looking at those teams that are almost out of the playoff picture and see if we can pry a defenceman away from them that could help us. Teams like Ottawa, Tampa Bay for two. Even Pittsburg may be desperate to make a trade. It is obvious that Pittsburg has problems and even with Malkin and Crosby leading the league in points they cannot seem to win many games. I have watched a couple of games, Malkin is being a puck hog and Crobsy has no one on his line that can score. So they have two super stars with no supporting cast to help them. Money being a problem could mean that Malkin is gone before too long.
I can’t wait till PRICE gets back!
Let’s see how OUR boy Subban does tonight. Go Canada. Looks like we got a keeper here boys.
Habs have got a good one in Subban.
He certainly is a dynamic offensive player, but Montreal will need to teach him when it is and isn’t appropriate to pinch and gamble defensively. Still, add another name to the impressive list of Montreal youngsters. Great win by team Canada last night.
Halak will be starting tonight. It will be interesting to see how the kostitsyn’s respond to playing together with more regularity, and if Weber sees any action in the near future.
