PowerHabs

Power Habs because their Powerplay is 35.7% in their last four games. That gets you noticed around the NHL and TSN’s latest Power Rankings list the Canadiens as 5th out of 30.
The Habs are hot – but how long can they possibly keep up their far above average powerplay success?

rocky, Senet1 and 4 guests are online. Google is crawling the site.
- rocky : So long.
- Senet1 : Good discussion rocky, I have to step out for an hour, but may be back later.
- Senet1 : The only way this team comes back to a team with long term potential is to draft a game breaker. Even all the other bad teams have a Stamkos or a player like him. He have some good player so what we need is a Malkin that we can count on 80% of the time to win a game for us.
- rocky : I mean winning will only do them harm that is.
- rocky : It really hurts because my reflexes make me want to cheer like mad, but it will only hurt the team now.
- Senet1 : Yes I have mixed feeling when watching the game. Last night I say here we go again. with our record of shoot losses I did not expect to win that one. Yet I wanted to win real bad?????
- rocky : God, so horrible to sit and hope for losses, but here we are.
- Senet1 : Our problem is we play one out of every 4 games good and therefore, we play well enough to stay on the borderline of a top five pick. If we win three or four in a row we could take ourselves right out of the running.
- rocky : I would love to get two of those players for sure.
- rocky : Subban , would bring a #1 IMO, but not top five for sure. You may be right, but it seems unrealistic at this stage. The way we are playing makes a top 5 pick seem likely.
- Senet1 : well if I thought I could get two of the top five juniors that have the potential to play in the NHL next year I would go for it. We are talking two potential super stars, something we have not had up front since Lefleur.
- Senet1 : well you may have to add a 2nd rounder or a player like Weber or even AK46, I think Subban would bring a #1 but not sure at top 5 pick.
- rocky : Maybe Plekanek, Moen, and Gill? Seems like a lot to give up though. A hard wedge to chisel.
- rocky : I agree with that as well, I just do not think Plekanek will get a big return based on his season. He is still a good player though.
- rocky : I am not is favour of that of course.
- Senet1 : Some say who would you currentl use for your second line centreman, well we have both Leblanc and Eller that are cabable and with extra ice time they both should improve.
- rocky : I see what you mean, but I do not think we have the player to trade for a #1 pick unless it is Price.
- Senet1 : If I thought I could get anothr #1 pick I would trade Plekanecs and whatever to the team to get that extra pick.
- rocky : understandable
- rocky : I do not believe it is possible for a tender to stop that move when properly executed, it should be banned but that is just my opinion. Many like the flashiness of it, which is understadable.
- Senet1 : It is hard for a goaltender to stop that move as long as the player has the skill to pull it off. Cole said the only way to stop it would be to trip the shooter. Wonder if that is legal?
- rocky : Yeah, the future starts now, that is for sure.
- rocky : Well, there sure are a lot of them. I myself think that one is not fair.
- Senet1 : The top 5 picks all look very good, it would be great to make a trade and get two of them.
- Senet1 : I for one did not know the spin or rama rule, it was always my understanding that the puck had to maintain a forward motion. obviously the spin o rama move the puck has stopped its forward motion. Even Price and Budaj when interview did not know that part of the rule. That is why before I disagree with someone I look up the rule. Like you I do not know all the rules.
- rocky : Lets get back to that. I sure like the look of that #1 ranked draft pick right now.
- goalie : Folks we're ALL good to go. We want our \Habs to do well adn it has been a very disappointing season. Howeve the blog lives on ands we all hope that our team is ablt to play well for the rest of the season whilst beginning the long process of rebuilding our team and NHL reputation.
- rocky : I also think they should make that type of goal illegal, but that is another matter. Thank you senet, yes when you watch the replay you must understand that under the current rules the goal is good. FINALLY someone gets it.
- Senet1 : Okay Rocky you have redeemed yourself at least with me.
- Senet1 : In slow motion if you watch Malkin he has some continuous motion therefore the goal counts. When I first saw the goal live it appeared to me that Malkin stopped his motion at the corner of the net and therefore I questioned the goal, however, in watching it on the replay he does not come to a complete stop before he starts his spin so the goal is good.
- rocky : That was a good goal and that is all there is to it. Mats was wrong. People can be wrong it is ok. I did not know that Markov being on the disabled list did not effect the salary cap. I was mistaken. See, I can say it and still draw breath.
- Senet1 : It is obvious people get the first part of the this rule and forget the second part of the rule. The first part of the rule says the puck must be in continuous motion towards the net, at the time of the spin the puck is not going toward the net, however, the player stays in motion then the puck is deemed to have forward progress and therefore the goal counts.
- rocky : There you go Senet. Thank you for settling that matter once and for all.
- Senet1 : THE RULE #24:The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete. The spin-o-rama type move where the player completes a 360° turn as he approaches the goal, shall be permitted as this involves continuous motion.
- rocky : The funny thing is that goal, and that game did not matter in any way whatsoever.

Montreal has a much better team this year than last. They better not start dragging their feet after getting ahead in the first period however… or they’ll start looking like the Leafs…. and we DON’T want to be fighting with THEM again for the last freakin’ play off spot.
Go Kovy! Show us what you’ve got!

Rookie netminder Carey Price will start in goal on Tuesday when the Montreal Canadiens host the Atlanta Thrashers (TSN, 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt).
Price stopped 20 shots and did not allow a goal during the shootout in the Canadiens’ 4-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.
In three games this season, he is 2-1 with a 2.93 goals-against average and .893 save percentage.
Both of Price’s wins have come against Pittsburgh.

This week is a great shot to really kill the leafs. beat Atlanta,Philly and then Toronto. get 7 points ahead of them!

Well. Last yeah i thought that our pp was lead by the howitzer. But it seems that the system made my Jarvis is the key of our pp. As long as the players keep the pace and play the system, it will work like a swiss clock.
“Another wrinkle is that coach Guy Carbonneau keeps his two top lines together for the two power-play units. The first has Saku Koivu with Higgins and Michael Ryder, the second has Tomas Plekanec with Alex Kovalev and, lately, Guillaume Latendresse.
Before, Koivu, Higgins and Kovalev were the first unit.
The Plekanec line had four power-play goals and the Koivu unit had one in a 7-4 win in Carolina on Friday night, while the Koivu line was on for another by Markov in Pittsburgh.
“The two units challenge each other,” said Streit. “It’s competition between them and it’s great.
“And when you have two units, they have different plays and it’s tougher to defend.” CP (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/news_story/?ID=221692&hubname=nhl-canadiens)
Oh and i remember Paul Maurice said that it was very difficult for the other teams’ players to beat the Montreal’s pp because the players know so many tricks, so many plays. Watch all the Montreal pp’s goal ; it’s terrific!

Anyone else surprised/upset/confused why Patrice Brisebois was on the ice for about 99% of the powerplays?
The second they take him off Higgins gets the tying goal..
October 31, 2007 at 5:25 pm
i honestly think that carbo has some non-sexual crush on breeze-by…it’s pathetic, get this ******* off the ice when it comes to powerplay time, this is not the 1993 stanley cup run here carbo! he makes bad plays constantly out there yet he still plays…and plays a lot! he was brought in to teach the youngsters, he’s really showing them how to screw up on defense that’s for sure!

Flying once again on the PP. I haven’t missed a game yet and our boys are playing well. Maybe could be better 5 on 5…just hoping that will improve and not get the same results as last year. But lets keep the top guys on the PP Bob. Outside of the top 2 lines and maybe top 3 defensemen…none of these other guys should see the ice, unless they start proving themselves offensively when its 5 on 5…then…sure…give em a chance. Brisebois’ playing there, I think I even saw Begin or Latandresse there the other night. If your going to give someone outta the ordinary a chance…how about Dandy?? Talk about your team player, and can put the puck away when given the chance. But first and foremost, ya gotta keep your Kovalev’s and Koivu’s out there, even if there not living up. They are the most offensively talented players there and on any given day are going to score or supply a helper before the 3rd and 4th liners. Just a thought. GO HABS GO !!!
October 31, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Well i dont think that Brisbois is an ******* but you, i would prefer Markov, Streit and Hamrlik on the PP as well.

hehe nvm on the you lol dont take that as an offense. mispell

just exactly how many times is Kovalev going to given the opportunity
on the shoot out ? While I don’t get to see too many Habs games out here in the west, I don’t believe I have ever seen him score in this situation when the games is on the line and he has the opportunity to win it, just another
pathetic effort. Big screw up by the rookie on defense…things like that happen.
The problem is going to be that they can’t score 5 on 5, so other teams quit taking penalties, then what do we do ? the 5 on 5 has to be addressed, because
right now it’s just not happening.

we should have won that game. It’s like the worst NHL TEAM!!! Atlanta? we lost to Atlanta!?We have to win the next 2!
November 1, 2007 at 8:26 am
If you don’t show up, you’re going to lose, no matter who you’re playing, and that game, was the hab’s worst performance of this year. no skating, hitting or energy. They were damn lucky to get 1 point!

Hopefully they learned not to underestimate any team no matter how crappy it seems
to be.
Also would like to see some competitive spirit tonight.
