Sabres Round 2
-
Did the Canadiens get screwed on a bad penalty call late in the third last night?
Perhaps.
The Habs however did not compete for most of the game, again, and really had no business being involved in the game.
One bad call could, and did, basically end their chance at getting a point. They need to be much better to avoid that situation as they are now in danger of dropping 4 points to a Sabres team that is playing well and ready to climb back into the Division.

- Senet1 : It will be interesting to see how Sutter does because to me the Oilers are not his kind of team, but then again neither were the Flames.
- goalie : I don't know when they'll announce it but the Oilers will be signing Sutter (Flames ex-coach) to coach their team - that's why Kevin Lowe chose him to coach in the World's. That was the world's worst kept secret.
- Senet1 : I guess I wish we could get it done so all the speculating was over and we can get to building out team.
- goalie : I can't type.... what a faux pas on my behalf...
- goalie : I just realized what I said adn didn't say yesterday. What a fayx as on my behalf. Regarding coaching Randy Cunnyworth MUSDT stay as an assistant- he deserves at least that after the tremendous job he did in the latter part of this past season. I'd still mlike to have Robinson, Carbo adn Allard on the staff also.
- Avatar37 : I agree Senet, my choice if we can't have Cunneyworth would be Crawford, Robinson on defense, Cunneyworth for offense, and Carbo as offense/faceoffs .
- Senet1 : I think if I had my choice it would be Crawford and see if he could get Carbo and Robinson as assistants. That would be my idea coaching team.
- goalie : I witnesed Marc Crawford MANY times when the Avs, etc. played against Oilers and let me tell you - he is constantly on the referees asses virtually game after game. He is the complete OPPOSITE of J. Martin. Crawford is calm on TSN but he is one excited coach behind the bench. A friend of mine who was an NHL linesman for 26 years said they dreaded Crawford he was so tough on the officials!
- goalie : You know, I've bee thinking about the coaching situation. I'd be really excited if the Habs had Hartley as head coach and Carbo adn Robinson as his assistants. I also read it somewhere about a month ago that Toronto's goalie coach Allard (?) wants to relocate back to Montreal where he has his goaltending school/business. Add him to the mix and I'd say the Habs would be in great shape coaching wise.
- Avatar37 : Well, from what I recall, Hartley didn't do all that well with the Thrashers. But, I don't know enough about him to judge one way or the other. Crawford I do know, and he always seemed to be a good, level headed coach to me.
- Senet1 : even Pacioretty two years ago did not impress any of us. Younger players have to play and make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. If they sit in the press box they are learning nothing.
- Senet1 : Of course if he have some good assistants like a Larry Robinson to teach the young defence and someone like Carbo to teach faceoffs etc. then your coach does not have to be as good at teaching. If Hartley fits the bill you get no argument from me. My only previous point is that if he is impatient with your younger players to the point that he does not play them, then we are right back where we were with Martin. Martin was a good coach too, but how he handled Emelin, PK and even Pacioretty two
- goalie : I would like to see the Habs sign a coach who realizes that our team isn't tough enough (we need to get bigger and somewhat more nastier),the coach needs t be a great TEACHER and be a coach who can get the players to understand and buy into his system. Other than that I couldn't care what lingo he speaks. I wnat to see our team become a ligitimate contender fast!
- HabsLoseAgain : Well we dont know if he is or is not a teaching coach. I woukd just hate to paint Hartley something that he is not. There will always be questions but if Hartley was hired as the habs new bench boss i for one would not be overly upset.
- Senet1 : My thoughts are not that he is or is not a good coach but rather that when he won the cup he had an experience team of superstars on that team. Where as we have a group of young inexperienced players, is he a teaching coach or a tactical coach or both? I am not question whether he is a good coach, but my question therefore is he the coach for us at this point in the deveopment of our team?? Not sure we are all purely speculating at the moment?
- Senet1 : Something happened to my first post. I will try again.
- Senet1 : That is why I said I am not sure he is the coach for us at this time? Right now we are all speculating including yourself, because non of us know for sure?
- HabsLoseAgain : Crawford also won a cup with Patrick Roy so would you say he is a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best goaltenders of alltime?
- HabsLoseAgain : Senrt so please give me some reasons why you think Hartley is not the coach the habs need right now. What is it that you do not like about him or his coaching style?
- HabsLoseAgain : Well all great coaches had great players playing for them so i guess you you add a a pile of other coaches to that list including Bowan......
- Senet1 : Hartley, was he a good coach or did he just have great players and one of the best altime goaltenders of all time. I am not sure that he is the type of coach that this organization needs right now. Unless of course we sign a ton of free agents.
- Avatar37 : However, my feelings may completely be wrong, Hartley may turn out to be a good fit.
- Avatar37 : I didn't say Hartley was unknown, I said we demoted a good coach in Cunneyworth and now have an unknown quantity because we don't have a coach. I don't have that great a feeling about Hartley, I'd be much more comfortable with Crawford.
- HabsLoseAgain : In my opinion i think he might be a good fit in montreal. Oh and he also likes to have a tough team.
- HabsLoseAgain : Also this year he coached the ZSC Lions to the swiss championship title.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol the so called "unknown" won a cup in 2000-2001 with the colarado avalanch.
- HabsLoseAgain : lol Bob Hartley is not an unknown lol.....sheesh.
- Senet1 : I think he has until the trading deadline to show us that he deserves to be on this team. If he does not get back on track then he could be simply a 2nd round draft pick to whoever we can trade him to.
- Avatar37 : Bourque reminds me of Pouliot, size, skill, and invisible. He needs to get back to playing a physical game and bang people around and maybe he'll start getting some of those garbage goals again. Need to get to the front of the net. I hope he can find his game again.
- Avatar37 : We had a good coach in Randy Cunneyworth. Now we have an unknown, with Bob Hartley rumoured to be the front runner. I'd rather have Cunneyworth.
- goalie : A player like Rene Bourwue has al the physical attributes of what would be a beter than average player. Hwever, he certainly didn't play that well especially after being in Montreal about three weeks. We NEED players like Rene to play hard AND produce points on a REGULAR BASIS in order for us to be competitive.
- Senet1 : MONTREAL – Rene Bourque had a rocky start to his career as a Hab, but he’s planning on using the next four years to make up for it. After arriving in Montreal under less-than-ideal circumstances in January, Bourque spent the following 38 games hoping to find the spark he needed to rekindle his offensive production. Despite flanking Tomas Plekanec on the team’s second line to close out the season, the 30-year-old sniper suddenly found himself firing blanks in his new NHL home.
- Senet1 : I think we have to be patient and not expect too much too soon. Let's get a strong management team in place, make a good choices in the draft get a good coach and then see what we need at the free agent market. I will not be too disapointed if we miss the playoffs again next year if it means a long term team success. We have the opportunity to make some major strides over the next two years at the draft table. Then we fill in the holes.
- goalie : I certainly agree that we need to get some impact forwards who will sign for 5 years, not for a season then walk away. That's not going to help us.
- goalie : I wouldn't trade PK for Ovetchkin no matter what. He is a coach's NIGHTMARE and a poor team player.

well here we go guys. We are starting to suck now! This is when Montreal misses the playoffs. we are starting to lose every second game. and in just 3 days we’ve went from 3rd in the NHL to 5th.
November 24, 2007 at 6:41 pm
the last 3 years we have started good then just dropped off and it looks the same this year to.
November 24, 2007 at 6:44 pm
i think the only thing that sucks around here is your website stuart..
November 24, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Turn that frown upside down.
November 24, 2007 at 8:04 pm
I take it RDS doesn’t grant paid sick leave? I love these guys, but I’m trying to eat while listening to the hawkers roll around in that guys’ throat. Sick day! Take a sick day!
November 24, 2007 at 8:07 pm
HAHAHAHA LOL
November 24, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Maybe one of them can sneeze on lattendresse and take him out of the line up lol
November 24, 2007 at 9:28 pm
Please, Guy, Effing please, send that kid to the minors. Missing two empty nets is understandable in a fast-paced men’s league game, but this is the NHL. And is Ryder even playing since the first period? This is frustrating–outgoaltendered by an AHL backup, and Andrew Peters is having his way with the puck. Brutal.
November 24, 2007 at 9:39 pm
How many open nets have the habs missed tonight and last night? PATHETIC!
5 games from now, habs will be below 500! They’re sinking faster than the titanic! Boy, do they look bad! JUST CAN’T SCORE!JUST CAN’T SCORE!
JUST CAN’T SCORE!JUST CAN’T SCORE!JUST CAN’T SCORE!JUST CAN’T SCORE!
GAINEY GET A PLAYER WHO KNOWS HOW TO SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carbo show your players what an open net looks like, and practise shooting straight! Minor leagers could the puck in an open net, but not these peewees!
November 24, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Well, well, well……
Huet should have played last night the Habs Fans cried. Well they got their wish. Huet played tonight. What happened? Huet lost again. 4 losses in 5 games. Yeh he is our #1 goalie for sure. With a record like that we will sure make the playoffs. Two soft goals again tonight. The last year Habs are back again.
The Fans talked about how we were beating teams with a backup goalie. Boy, what goes around comes around eh. Not only did we loose to a backup goalie but he was once our goalie way back when.
I would like to change my prediction…. Win one loose two. Win one loose two.
HA, HA, HA Huet our #1 goalie. #1 alright. A middle finger #1.
November 24, 2007 at 10:36 pm
He wasn’t spectacular tonight, but the Habs would have lost with Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy and Jacques Plant playing nets at the same time. Something’s going on with the team that we’re not hearing about–injuries, dissafection, but something. They aren’t even trying, except for Plekanac and Komisarek. But on most shifts, most of the guys are doing whatever they can to avoid battles along the boards. Ryder is the best at it–he just makes sure he’s nowhere near the puck when it might require that he take a body check in order to come out with the puck.
November 24, 2007 at 10:55 pm
GAINEY: you lazy lame duck GM: get off your ***, and do something!
You’re ruining this franchise! THE 2007-8 VERSION OF THE MONTREAL CANADIENS IS THE LEAST TALENTED TEAM OF ALL OF THEIR 100 YEARS IN THE NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 24, 2007 at 11:11 pm
Anyone notice Kovalev is are heavyweight as of late? This team is dysfunctional!Look, for pete sake,at least call up new blood,come-on Bob!!!!!!!
November 25, 2007 at 12:58 am
Yeah but Bob Gainey isn’t changing and he isn’t going anywhere. I can’t figure out his vision for the team, we don’t have a solid player, much less a solid line. Defense is pretty good, but offense is pitiful. They are an embarrassing team to see playing. If we could have a bunch of 50-70 point players we might make a good team, like Buffalo last year, but it looks like Plekanic might end up scoring the most. A guy who would be 3rd line on a serious team. Get Bob Gainey out of there, get a GM who will bring back the Habs of the early 90s. We have some young talent, but knowing what we’ve seen the past 10 years, all the young guns will get burned out and play to get traded. Comry, Bure, Bonk, Zednik, now Ryder. Who next? Probably Price or Streit. Montreal is a tough town, but we love our players and treat them as celebrities, but start doing something right and we’ll be a little nicer. Get Carbo out, get Gainey out, trade Huet for a backup and a pick, bench Ryder, bench Koivu for a couple road games. A little tough love but do we ever need some change. Our golden boy Saku can’t even do a thing.
November 25, 2007 at 2:39 am
Saku and Higgins might be hurt. I think Ryder has possibly taken up smoking or something. And Plekanac is simply going to be one heck of a hockey player. But this so called youth of the team isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. The young Russians are good, but what in hell kind of a role is Latendresse going to play? This kid has power forward written all over him, but he’s trying to play a skill game that doesn’t at all fit his potential. We have very solid defense, and I’ll never know why Dandenault only played 10 mins tonight. Ah well, enough griping from me. Crappy game, poor effort, time to nip the problem in the bud.
November 25, 2007 at 8:36 am
Well here we go again with the HUET bashing did u freaking idiots happen to notice he has let only 3 goals in two games ans his save percentage is over .900 but hey this is the reason why players dont want to come here and why players dont want to stay because you idoits are allways using one of the players as a scape goat.
The fact is guys if you dont score you dont win and we are drying up in the goal department.Plus Jocelyn made some key saves last night to keep the confidence down.
So yes they have to get there **** together because we are 1 game over 500 and the only thing that saving us in the standingsis the fact that carolina, ottawa and the leafs all lost last night.
November 25, 2007 at 10:10 am
Trade Ryder and Halak for Tanguay.
We need Something!!! last year we strted loosing in january and missed the playoffs. this year were starting in november! We are gonna end up loosing to the leafs and then we’ll go to 8th place. We never beat the devils so there goes another loss. In december we playthe redwings. In 2 weeks we are gonna go
12-13-4.we’ll be 14th in the east. our leading scorer will be plekanec with 47 pts this season. The leafs will have 10 players with at least 50 pts.
November 25, 2007 at 11:02 am
ok….enough already….I can take a lot of things but PLEASE…Dont ever mention the leafs in the same breath as the habs again…….its like going to a wine tasting & discussing “scrath & sniff barbies”.
November 25, 2007 at 11:03 am
um….thats scratch.
November 25, 2007 at 11:25 am
Yeah there is no way i would compare the habs to the laffs.Toronto could very well be the worst team in the league and thats no joke. The habs will have their ups and downs but atleast have a prospect pool of some pretty decent talent. What do the leafs have in prospects? A guy who shows his wang on the internet and a goalie prospect dowwn in the marlies who is the second comming of Peter Ing. We have solid defence, great goaltending but scoring needs improvement. The habs atleast have a diection of where they want to go but the leafs are handcuffed by huge contracts and bad management and will be a awfull team intill those contracts are up.So to all of the laffs fans out there dont expect anything special out of your team for atleast the next 8 years. So now looking at the habs it doesnt seem that bad when we know we are only a few players away from being a contender and not a whole roster away like the leafs. GO HABS GO
November 25, 2007 at 12:18 pm
DTD – Huet wasn’t the problem last night! You can’t fault him on those goals, if you do you know nothing about watching hockey and breaking down a play.. yup Huet is at fault, damn he should of scored also.. learn the game before you peak off Fool
November 25, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Yo Bob Gainey, once again your recruitment of cast away veterans is starting to nip you in the butt ; go to the DOGS and lets start getting them used to THE N.h.L. game and If you want, make coaches out of our bad pick-ups”smoke etc”We have vets on the bulldogs too you know,”Millroy….Biron..etc”Don’t uses that lame excuse the DOGS arn’t doing well this year!Just make it happen!!!! And Carbo get your shittogether, your best player states the habs have 4 got lines that are getting used to each other “Kovalev” and then in the third, you start your crazy card shuffle with the lines ,ENOUGH ALL READY,FIX THE 1st,3rd and 4th lines and LEARN TO DO YOUR JOB BETTER !!
November 25, 2007 at 1:50 pm
yes, but we say the same thing every damn year! and the team never gets better!
Why don’t we get better? ask Gainey, who sits on his hands and plays solitaire all season. He has never does anything to get us more offence!
How many years have been saying:” WE NEED MORE OFFENCE. WE DON’T HAVE A STAR SCORER, AND WE NEED MORE GOAL SCORERS!” It’s just a broken record year after year after year. I don’t know how much longer we can take this. And as loyal fans, we deserve better. And last night, for this team to come out without any effort or heart, is totally unacceptable to the fans. But as long as the Bell Centre is sold out every game, why should Gillett care? He’ll be satisfied, and the habs will continue to put out the same crappy team every year! It’s been happening for 14 years, so why change? Some things never change!
I knew after Gainey did NOTHING in the summer to acquire a scorer, it would be the same. I told you guys: Don’t let their record fool you. It won’t stay above 500 for long. December brings out the true habs for the remainder of the season. You know, THE LOSING HABS! And forget the PP. Opposing teams are now figuring that out. If we don’t score on our PP, we can’t win. OUR PP IS NOW 2 for our last 23. Not very good. I guess I’ll start betting on the opposition in Mise Au Jeu. Might as well try and make money off a horrible team.
I think Koivu’s days are numbered in this city. He said he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuilding team, and so bye bye to him. It’s just too bad that language has to play a part on this team, or in Carbo’s mind. we all know, that if Latendresse was ENGLISH, he would be in the minors right now!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever happened to, only the best players play? It’s now only the french play!!
November 25, 2007 at 4:29 pm
DTD#10
So huet let in 2 soft ones you say, ok so if he had stopped them would the Habs have won????? after all the forwards did score zero goals !!Just how many games is any team going to win scoring zero goals ? Goalies are not the Habs problem, it’s the forwards who are echl or some other minor minor league quality playing at nhl level. Huet has the 6th best record, so let’s stop ragging on him and direct your frustration in the right direction–at the forwards who cannot score, 2 back to back vs BUF and how many goals did the Habs score ? Excuse me, I did not hear you, how many goals did the Habs score?
The goalies of the Habs are the one thing that keeps them in contention, and others, please lay off Gainey, he offered Briere more money than he signed for, but they don’t want to play under the miscroscope that is Montreal.
November 25, 2007 at 4:32 pm
This is to all wannbe habs fan/haters this team is looking better every year, yes at times theydont put in a hundred percent effort and yes it would be nice to get a fifty goal scorer but it is not going to happen so wake up and get lost.
What this team needs is for all you negative fans to go fly a kite.Us fans that are loyal know the habs days are coming and the fact is we will make the playoffs and are team will gel.You wait and see this team has some surprises left in the tank.
November 25, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Habsofthefuture,It has just been proven that the power of prayer does not change the outcome of anything,so, that being the case if you want things to change for the better if at all possible…then make is so…The facts speak for themselves and things have to done about it..no brain-er…change must be made, after all,if you can mix up the lines then surely you can change the players.Ya know,it wouldn’t be so bad if the games were exciting but it’s like pactum say’s “watching paint dry!!!”LOL So why don’t you take it easy on us fans cause this has been too much for too long!!! And trust me I’m not the only one, cheak the other blogs,EVERY-ONE’S FEAD UP!!!!
November 25, 2007 at 7:11 pm
Well have fun living on the past Xtrahabsfan.I dont care about other blogs whining about the habs, the fact is hockey is not llike a magic trick, it takes time for a team to get better especialy after the rebuild of the late ninetys/early 2000 if you look back at your stats the habs have got dramaticaly better.
November 25, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Big question, who’s worse Rejean Houle, or Bob Gainey?
Someone said Thibault made some key saves… he also was letting 20 foot rebounds go, got pulled way out of position, lost the net. The Habs had at least 2 open nets and just missed the shot.
November 25, 2007 at 10:56 pm
so here we are again, same position as last year at this time. ya i know it’s only two losses to buffalo. but it’s two loses that should have been prevented. the call on komisarek in buffalo was wrong. that may have changed the outcome of that game, who knows. all i know is that the habs have to get consistent, game in and game out. you never know what team will show up to the rink. the relentless habs that won’t take second place or the habs that are half asleep, unorganized and look like the should be in the AHL. which also brings up a good question. should we bring up some more bulldogs?? maybe send latendresse down and bring lapierre back up?? we have to deal with toronto next, the boys better be ready to bring it because after the performance against pheonix you know that toronto will bring it’s A game. i feel bad for the likes of carey price, such a huge asset to the organization, just getting beat down by poor defensive hockey. must be frustrating?? i hate to see my team lose, but if we lose a few more we may end up tied for 12th in the conference, it’s getting really tight now. hope carb’s can get his troop in order, shake things up for the better and we can get back to our winning ways. is this gonna be a repeat of last year?? merry xmas with a team that is already gone on holidays??? i surely hope not!!!
November 25, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Let’s face it, whoever plays against the Habs seemed to be that week’s #1 goalie. We make the other team’s goalie look like he’s standing on his head. The fact is we do not have finishers….this has been going on for far too long. 8 points given away….I would be having skating drills for the next five practices after a result like this….f*(*(k!!!
November 25, 2007 at 11:45 pm
get used to it! It’s just the beginning of the habs famous 2nd half of the season melt down. Only Gainey can save this team. You can’t expect carbo to make winners of misfits. remember Bonk? he’s scoring lots of goals for Nashville. Is Smolinski? How about those goal scorers Gainey promised to get in the offseason? Did he lie to us? Yes he did! Do you feel cheated? I do!
all I ever wanted was a team that could score. Well I guess I’ll have to settle for constant non playoff teams, because this group of players don’t know how to score. They just aren’t talented enough. Have you noticed all the open nets they missed in the last 2 games? pathetic!
November 26, 2007 at 12:08 am
second comming of Peter Ing….HAHAHA…funny stuff
November 26, 2007 at 8:47 am
Goalie Coach:
Huet was lying flat on his belly like a harp seal on one goal. And the othet one he should have had as well. Come on Buddy. Wake up and smell the coffee. FOOL………….
November 26, 2007 at 8:51 am
habs4ever:
Huet loss 4 of his last five starts. Not very impressive if you ask me.
If Huet were to stop those weak goals we would have went to a shootout where we might have scored and took the two points……

DTD # 34
I don’t disagree with you on that…but the problem is still that the Habs cannot score……Other teams can let in a bad one but still have the forwards
pickup a goal or two, the Habs do not have that luxury, the forwards quite simply are not good enough, and it shows game after game.
#31-Habs2bfan…Yes I noticed that that piece of **** Bonk has scored
this year, so why couldn’t he score in Habs Town??
Well we gottta try and stay positive..amd hopefully bury the laffs on Tues.
November 27, 2007 at 2:39 am
OK,now that Lats is on the first line for tomorrow’s game against the tragic, dismal and out of control spiraling Toronto Maple leafs ,it would be too funny if he singlhandly took them on”with a hat-trick” and put them to rest.once and for all….Latrendresse,do it for Pactum Serva, lol….
November 27, 2007 at 8:14 am
lol
November 27, 2007 at 11:35 am
anybody want to bet that Gainey doesnt pick up Mark Recchi, as he’s available right now for next to nothing?…….not the blockbuster we’re looking for, but certainly better than …say…Latendresse ( until he learns to play in the nhl).
I say within the next three days….I’ll be saying I told you so.
November 28, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Ovechkin is a free agent come July 1st. Perezhogin is his good buddy. Question to Gainey 1 + 1 = ?
November 28, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Ryder $3M, Smolinski $2M, Huet $2.8 M, + Cap space = Ovechkin.
next year Kovalev $4.75 + Koivu $4.5 = LeCavalier
