Selanne Rumours Persist

  • There is still much speculation that Teemu Selanne could be wearing a Habs jersey before the puck drops in October.

Once Koivu who is a good friend of Selanne’s was re-signed, Montreal’s chances grew significantly.

It’s no secret they are friends and want to play together, but do the habs have the cap room and desire to sign him?

Once Theodore is inked on paper, the cap room situation will be a little clearer. After having a poor season last year, Selanne may be able to get signed for a decent price.

How bad does he want to play in Montreal? That will be the decisive factor. Atlanta and St-Louis appear to be in the mix as well. If the desire to play with Koivu is strong enough expect to see him signed for a 1 year deal.

Selanne although having a poor season last year, is still a significant offensive threat. Playing with Koivu and Kovalev could be a devastating combination.

Awesome addition for the Habs. At this point, the only big signings left are Ryder, Theo (and Markov to a lesser degree) which will put them barely over the 30 mill mark. That leaves lots of room for signing Selanne who would be quite the addition to the team. Perfect fit for the second line and he would be quite the addition to the Canadiens penalty kill (he isn’t the same undisciplined scorer he was with the Jets). Flex that Finnish influence Koivu and the Habs could find themselves a top 4 team in the east.

I love the quote of Selanne’s when asaked about maybe signing in San Jose ,,he said and I quote “I would rather eat crumpets.and break dance with queer Manniey ,,so much for signing with that AHL calibre club, and can any body blame him ??

  3. i totally disagree koivu is goin for sure, selanne in koivu out.i think koivu is crappy.thats all i have to say.

  4. Koivu sucks? are you kidding me? There is noooo way koivu would be traded for selanne or dumped to make room. Koivu is the heart and soul of the team, he has stuck with the Canadiens when he could of went elsewhere, as well, the canadiens have stood by him. While it is not impossible for him to leave, it’s very unlikely. Have you watched him in the playoffs the last two years? Saku is all class, he’s a gritty playmaker, and the canadiens would be foolish to let him go.

  5. Couldn’t agree more.

Agreed! Koivu is overated. If hes gonna be the leader, he has to be there every game. Not Injured every other game. I would trade koivu in a heartbeat for selane, but now dumb manager would trade selane for a crap load of shit like koivu. And im tird of people comparing koivu and sundin, saying koivu is better.Pfft. sundin is a legend no matter waht you say. He is going to the hall of fame, and koivu isnt lets face it. I know some habs fans are gonna bash me, but what im saying is real. You cant ignore the truth no matter how many times you try to cover it up.
