Time Off

  • The Canadiens won’t play until Thursday night in Atlanta in what can only be called a ‘must win’ game.

Aren’t they all must win games now?

The time off will hopefully help cure and eliminate any ‘flu’ or ‘bug’ that still going around. Hopefully give the coaching staff some time to eliminate the ‘crappy hockey bug’ that’s infected just about everyone.

More importantly…this little rest starts the yearly “get the Habs into the playoffs” tradition.

This is where Habs fans start watching and cheering for other teams. Not against the Canadiens, but against other teams where the outcome will give the Canadiens the best possible chance to squeak in to 8th.

Because the Canadiens never make it easy on themselves, they must hope the 7th seed defeats the 9th seed and the 8th seed loses to the 1st seed and every possible combination on every single night to keep them alive.

This is part of being a Habs fan for the past decade or more.

Tonight the Rangers square off against the Islanders. Now the Islanders made some good moves at the deadline, and even prior to that were really turning it on. They are probably locked into one of those spots. So on this night we all cheer on Ryan Smyth and the Islanders to defeat the Rangers for the sole reason of keeping the Rangers off our back ass.

Because a Rangers win puts them only 1 point behind us, with 2 games in hand.

So pull out your Jarmoir Jagr Voodoo doll and your Islanders jersey because this is what we need if the Canadiens don’t plan on winning any more games this year.

Hey Rob, compared to the vets, the rookies shine! That doesn’t say much for Koivu, Kovalev, Johnson, when a bunch of rookies outdo them. No wonder Kovalev is pissed at the rookies!

Having said that, the rookies have also outplayed and outdone some of the leagues best, so Rob you can stick it for all I care, no one says that about the Habs rookies and gets away scot free! Shame on you Rob!

    Hey JOSHTM……

I’m glad you woke up to chat with us.

Are there any rookies on the Habs that have over 20 goals or 40 points?????????????

    Hello friend…….

Welcome to an about to be winning Team…………

  5. Dalley:

The answer to your post #97 is “I don’t know!” If I had the answer to that question, I would be sitting in Bob Gainey’s office instead of Joshtm. My personal opinion is that it may have something to do with giving the customer what they demand and avoiding crucifixion in the French press.

I have always noticed that Gainey has actually always tried to maintain a balance of ethnic backgrounds on his teams. However, his hand is probably being forced a bit in Montreal.

    Rob.

If I were Gainey (he is already a millionare) I would do what I felt was best for the team no matter what anyone else said or thought. If those people did not like it then so be it. Let them get rid of me.

With Gainey’s work in Dallas I’m sure that he would not have a hard finding another GM position with another team who will want to go places.

You think that Gainey winning thoses cups that he would like to continue that tradition. And pass it on to this team eh.

  7. Joshtm:

Good morning, sunshine! Up late last night posting anti-Gainey slogans on all the Habs websites, were we?

Good to see that there is actually something about the Canadiens that Joshtm actually likes. He lives the French Canadian rookies!

Now, joshtm, if I was really half the angry anglo prick that you actually think that I am, I would spend the rest of the day sending out repetitive messages that said things like “actually it’s the emperor’s children that have no clothes,” “legends in their own minds,” “spoiled brats,” “too distracted by other things to bother putting in an effort in hockey…” etc.

However, I am not going to do that because I too hope that Latendresse and Lapierre break out of these traditional dysfunctional mind sets that French Canadian players playing in Montreal typically fall into for the good of the T-E-A-M.

Dalley: I agree. Personally, I think that Gainey has understandably had a lot on his mind this year since the death of his daughter. The team has slipped a bit into bad habits since then. It must be hard to go through a tragedy like that when all those around you are behaving like children. Gainey will likely be back stronger than ever next season.

    Go Habs Go!

  8. Oppsss, I should qualify that by saying that is if guys like Joshtm and the French Media in Montreal are not successful in their attempts of crucifying the guy in the meantimes. In that case, it’s likely good-bye, Bob Gainey. Hello, Mario Tremblay! Ugghhh!

Hey Dalley where have you been all year? Gainey was sending them up and down to the farm team. None of the rookies have had a full slate of games, yet one of them has managed to outdo Johnson inside and out, Lat. Hello!

Give Lapierre and Milroy a whole year and they would match Souray!

I see the mental ward has you guys in the computer room, let me know before they put the straightjacket on you next, or when they force you to take your schizo pills!

Maybe you can discuss in amongst yourselves in your little mental ward self help group, maybe the big Indian guy can pick up the water fountain and break you guys out.

I still say Gillett should buy out the Penguins and move them to Montreal and force the Habs to change.

    Joshtm;

You should be the one to talk about common sense. Take a look at some of your own comments in here. Pot calling the kettle black eh.

What is the matter Joshshy you weren’t held enough as a child?
You peed your pants too many times at school?
You were bullied at school too much
    Picked your nose too much?

It’s ok. You can tell us. We will try to help you.

Dalley1 – Interesting analogy on that itch (more like a rash). The problem is we can reach it, but somehow against our better judgment, we seem to persist on scratching it. The more we itch the worse the itching gets, but it doesn’t deter us, it actually makes us want itch harder. After a while we’re miserable and can not focus on anything but that dam itch.

Best try ignore and it’ll go away, but it never fails, that itch is contagious and someone always gives into the temptation to itch.

    HI Guys
Something I pick up of HOCKEY TRADE RUMORS.

Sometimes I hate my fellow Hab fans…

Les-Habitants writes “Oh, for the love of….

First off, this Kovalev thing was total and utter BS, but I see as a fan “since I was born” you are really willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

In case ANYONE was wondering, it is false. Not just my opinion either. Want to know why La Presse couldn’t get hold of the actual recording of his RADIO INTERVIEW?? Because he was telling the truth, and the article that La Presse translated was from a tabloid…in fact, the whole story has been pulled from http://www.lapresse.ca. Oh, and the reporter who gave the interview backs Kovy up…interesting, isn’t it?

And do you really think that the team is better off without our most talented player?? Waive him?? Yah, great idea. Last season, prior to his knee surgery, we were all singing his praise, as we were in the playoffs. Habs fan for life, huh?

I also love the Koivu remarks, they are perhaps the most retarded things I’ve seen on this site. Trade Koivu?? He isn’t a good leader??? How the hell do you guys call yourselves Hab fans? Have you just tuned in the past month? He isn’t the most vocal guy infront of the media, but thats because he talks IN the dressing room where he needs to. Ask Red Fisher, ask any respectable journalist in Montreal about Koivu. He is the heart and soul, the captain and the team’s best player, and you want him to be traded….clap clap, good job guys

And my final point: never seen this sort of spiral before?? What about last season? Oh wait, we started off strong, had a losing streak, then barely made 8th…sound familiar?
How about those seasons prior to the lockout? How about those season we didn’t even make the playoffs? The team is still REBUILDING…let me repeat that, for those who missed it:

    REBUILDING
as in Gainey has, and hopefully will continue, to make this team better

And that means we aren’t a cup contender. That means we are suppose to struggle for the playoffs. Yes, I’m frustrated as hell by the inconsistent play we’ve seen, but half the team is made of rookies and sophmores . The team showed it can play well, but calling out Koivu is not the answer. There are issues, but hey, guess what? The team is, you guessed it, rebuilding and that’s why Gainey didn’t waste his draft picks and prospects on rentals!!!

    Really, you ask? Really.

So wait, getting a UFA rental isn’t the way to build a team? Nope

We shouldn’t just trade away what few good prospects and high draft picks that we have? Right again!

Man, sometimes I hate Hab fans…”

Wow, arguing is fun sometimes eh? LOL

Here’s a new argument…what do you say we change the look of the Habs jersey? I think it sucks right now. LOL I’m just kidding of course, but piss on me as if I were serious. Let’s make this interesting.

Hey Lucky: Most of us go on TRADE RUMOURS. We know what the responses are.
But you only printed the pro Gainey response. How about copying ALL the responses. The other people to respond, have vastly different outlooks on the situation. I, for example, don’t agree with the 1st response, but DO AGREE with the responses.

  27. So what happens if Kovalev sucks for the remaining 16 games and the Habs miss the playoffs, are you suckers are willing to go through another year of his amazing hockey skills at 4.5 million ? And what makes you think Kovalev is going to save the day,is it your desperate desire for the Habs to make the playoffs? Today’s word is “P A T H I C”,READ IT AND WEEP HAB FANS !!!

  28. Pathetic

  29. #29 LJ55 says:

Um Kovalev denied any interview at all at first, then he said he didn’t remember, then he admitted to the interview in question. what was said in the interview it’s what’s being disputed not if the interview ever happened.

fact Kovalev did do the interview.
unfortunately after originally backing the interview the russian reporter has since changed her story. everyone is in damage control mode, right now for whatever reasons. I doubt we’ll ever get the full story, as of right now La presse is standing by there story still, oddly ebough some rival papers are backing them as well.

referring to post 96, one of Rob’s

I don’t entirely buy your theory about young french players on our team, some may get spoiled and the fame goes to there head yes, but that’s the exception not the rule. And you say after 10 games they show no effort, please Lapierre works his bag off period, Lats has been slumping of late and has been benched for it. the rookie guys are hitting everything that moves, mainly Laps and Lats though. Lats is 2nd on the team in hits, 1st in rookie hits and 29th in the entire nhl in hits.
So most of your statement lacks any actual facts or things that can be backed up with facts. all hearsay really.

One thing i do agree with you effort and heart win hockey games, the veterans are responsible for leading this team. I can’t name many young players on this team who i feel haven’t at least done what is expected of them. Can you say that about the Veterans? at least rookies and young players can say they will get better with experience, unfortunately the vets can’t even say that, what can they say?

    Dalley1
Posted on March 7th, 2007 at 12:32 pm. About ‘Time Off’.

You are so very correct Rob.

If we can see the problems, why can’t management see the problems as well?

you must mean the problems like Kovalev and Samsanov right? and all the other overpaid underperforming crew. Oh don’t worry i’m pretty sure management is aware of these problems and they will bemoved if that’s even possible at this point. there play has made them virtually untradeable sadly and it would take a miracle to unload any of them at this point. Hopefully BG can pull a Theo for Abby part 2, just to unload some of that money which is being wasted.
BG has done a decent job shedding some dead wood the last couple of years, bulis, ribs, theo , dags etc. all these players i would classy as not hard working. too bad he took on Sammy, if someone told me he would only have 9 goals after 60 games i would have laughed at them. no more pland D’s please.

I hope Montreal plays there young players more and starts reducing the vets icetime. at least the youngsters bring some enthusiam and passion most of the time.
