Not much new to say about the Canadiens until after tonight.
Flu Problems, Samsonov complaining, sounds like December and January all over again.
Tonight could go any number of ways, the way the Habs need it to go is
- Habs defeat Islanders
- Ottawa defeats New York
- Florida defeats Carolina
- Tampa defeats Toronto
- Buffalo defeats Pittsburgh
More importantly, Abeischer needs a strong game and to gain his confidence if the Canadiens have any slim remaining chance to finish in 8th.

- Senet1 : Actually I agree it was a good move for them to play a shorter season and get the experience. He could not have played in the minors this year he would have had to play junior or the NHL. However, he now has a year under him and knows what to expect next year and hopefully take a bigger responsibility on the team. Did you see those two goals in the bronze game? Wow.
- muller93 : Good move by the Habs not having Galchenyuk play in the minors. Now Galchenyuk has 1 year in the NHL and playoff experience this is going to pay off big time come next year.
- Senet1 : Galchenyuk scores to back to back goals in shoot out to help USA win Bronze metal. I did not see the second goal but the first was a beauty.
- Senet1 : So we could pick anywhere from 25th to 23rd depending on who wins these quarter final series.
- Senet1 : First, is the 14 teams in the lottery. Then there are 12 teams that did not make the semi finals in the order of the seasonal finish, Then there are the four teams in the semi final the first two eliminated pick in the order of the regular season points total and the last two based on who wins and who loses the cup. So as it stand now if say Detroit beats Chicago then Detroit moves up to pick after us. Boston or NYR will move up and pick after us. LA or San Jose will move up and pick after us
- Senet1 : Basically, I was wrong about the draft pick situation. There are three groups of drafting teams within the 30 teams.
- Senet1 : seriously ready to challenge for the cup. He will us win games but he will not be the difference between winning the cup and not winning the cup. You pick up players like that once you have the team ready to challenge,.
- Senet1 : I am looking at the players to draft and there are a lot of big 6'3-6'5 forwards available ion the draft this year. If we could draft 3-4 big young players in the 2nd and 3rd round why would you want to give that up for a roster player who may have 2-3 years at best. If we are going to build a winner to have to build it with bigger players and there are a lot of good big players available this year. So you sign Ott and he is with us for the short run, but probably not when we are seriously re
- Senet1 : Boullion is a great mentor for the young D-men
- muller93 : Boullion is one of MBs great additions--Boull ion is a definite Keeper.
- muller93 : Getting rid of Kaberle frees up a lot of cash. Boullion is small but is reliable and doesn't back down from anyone.
- muller93 : Exactly Goalie any thoughts on a punishing D-man?
- goalie : They;re showing determination adn skill vs Ducks and Blackhawks.
- goalie : REd Wings could turn out to be the surprise team of this year's playoffs!
- goalie : WE need to rid our team of Kaberle and Webber. Step two would be to then move Diaz. If we get that big d-man I believe that would push Boullion to # 7 on the chart. We'd then go with Georges, PK,Markov (to continue mentoring Ememlin) Tinordi as our starting six . THEN I'd be excited about our chances. We could then work on getting bigger forwards.
- goalie : I too would gladly give up a 3rd round pick for Ott- the type of player we sadly lack. AND if we could get one more rugged, expeienced defenceman it would help immensely.
- muller93 : Senet what you are saying makes sense but if we can get Ott for a 3rd round I'll take that all day.
- muller93 : MB should be looking at a big D-man first, even though I like our blue line with the addition of Tinordi. We need that insurance just in case one gets injured. Also I'm a firm believer in starting with the goalie first then-defense-for wards-and we already have good goalie. We have all noticed when we have the lead Price is tough to beat.
- Senet1 : So sometimes you have to sacrifice for one year or two to build that team in the draft. then add the finishing touches through FA and trades.
- Senet1 : Muller, Detroit is another good example. They have been in the hunt every year with good well balanced teams yet only one or two cups to show for it. However, they have built a team that has a chance every years for the last 10+ years. That is what I think we have a chance to do this year with a good draft. It reminds me of the habs teams of the mid 80 and 90's we built a team then with sold draft picks and won the cup twice during that time period. So sometimes you have to sacrifice a one
- muller93 : Very true Senet, you do need luck and we haven't had any luck it seems since the habs moved to the Bell Center. We had an incredible run in 2010 with some crazy goal tending from Halak. With Galchenyuk-Tinor di-Gallagher all in 1 year--not too bad, even with an early exit in the playoffs.
- Senet1 : Muller I guess we all have our own ideas, but there has never been too many times that were successful when they traded their draft picks away. We have a chance to build this team so we have a shot at winning the cup over the next 10 years. Even as good as Pittsburgh has been they have only won the cup once since Crosby and Malkin have been with the team. That is because you not only need great players but you need luck to win, but one thing about Pittsburgh they have a chance every year. The
- muller93 : Good point on Torres, he might be a liability. Torres has to tone it down a bit, but that's his game-very aggressive.
- goalie : Though I don't condone what Raffi Torres did - thos shows you how repeat offenders or near offenders are going to be treated. His hit was NOT illegal BUT what the rap sheet adn reputation Torres has he got severly punished. Lesson to be learned by OTHER players because Torres dopesn't learn fromk his mistakes.
- muller93 : Senet normally I would agree with you on not trading draft picks but we are not in a rebuilding stage. Sometimes draft picks can be a roll of the dice and it can take up to 3 years to be NHL ready. We have a good team and I agree with Stuo players like Clowe-Torres-Ott -Scott will make a big difference. Somebody has to protect Gallagher, he can't keep getting hit the way does--we need a tough forward so they think twice before going after Gallagher.
- Senet1 : Really a heathly Habs team would probably win more games against the Pens that we did against the Sens. Reason they Pens would not play as physical against us as against the Sens. If we get good goaltending we win at least two games.
- zpezada4ok : hello all «link»
- stuo11 : hes a tougher big guy too! Just a minor adjustment but will help a bit
- stuo11 : hes better than markov, and hes french who was in mention for defenceman of the year
- goalie : Markov for Beauchemin - an injury prone d-man for an ;old timer'd-man. Beauchemin is NOT what the Habs need in my opinion. He is a HUGE defensive liability.
- goalie : Stuo 11 I'd make that trade with Oilers fast BUT I doubt the Oilers will make that. Two marginal d-men at the best for a switch of first round picks - not a chance .
- stuo11 : markov for beachemin?
- stuo11 : let moen go
- stuo11 : maybe try and get steve begin back
- stuo11 : we wouldve kicked out all other teams but pens, sens,

It will be a good game tonite all around. I feel good about this game. I can feel it in my Bone………………
March 13, 2007 at 1:39 pm
I’ve got a good feeling for tonight’s game! Put the jersey on this morning and it felt like a winning day. This could be the day we finially turn the season around and can forget about the last couple of months!!!
March 13, 2007 at 1:44 pm
It’s the H15 virus ” chicken flu” for sure that’s causing this: Their chicken to go in front of the net ,fight for the puck ,take the shot, dive in front of the shot ,catch the puck, chicken to show up for the game ,play for 60 mins, take responsibility for poor play and make the playoffs.
March 13, 2007 at 2:46 pm
A loss tonight and I may stay home and listen to Bob Cole praise the leafs on tv instead of wasting 28 hours of my life driving to see a game that will probley mean nothing.
March 13, 2007 at 2:52 pm
If they loose tonite Hab-a-do(I don’t think they will). It won’t be the first time they lost this year & it won’t be the last. HA, HA, HA.
Brother send me that ticket and I will go. I’m only 5 hrs away from Montreal.
Either way I would go if I were you.
March 13, 2007 at 3:40 pm
HAB-DAB-A-DO…I’ll be willing to help take those tickets off of your hands. I’ll be up the street anyway on Crecent for St. Patty’s Day
March 13, 2007 at 3:45 pm
If they lose tonight we will start the biding tormorrow morning, 2 tickets section 101/ row U/ seats 1&2.
March 13, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Being from an Atlantic province such as yourself. You would give me a discount right Brother HAB-A-DOO…………..
March 13, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Habadoo, u gotta go, even if u think the season is a wash. Or, give em to me, i live in toronto, and will hitchhike there if i have to. The habs have never lost the 11 games i have seen them live (7 in to, 3 in old forum, one in edmonton), so i’m like a good luck charm. Thought i’d throw it out there.
You should go anyways, as the habs – leafs games are almost always good ones to watch. As long as the leafs lose, anyways. Or if we injure one of their “stars”, that’s awesome too. I hate the leafs, large!
Like the chicken flu comment, X. Too much of it is true to be very funny, unfortunately. Still, valid. Bob Cole is bad, brothers, but until you hear that stiff Joe B(l)owen with his “Holy mackinaw” **** every play, Cole is strictly lightweight. The worst guy has to be that piece of dung announcer for the sabres: you never will know what it’s like to truly want to rip out a guy’s vocal chords until you hear that biased sack of suet!
March 13, 2007 at 4:24 pm
hab a doo..go for the booze, the drive , the strippers, but prepare for more of the same…When things are awful consistently like they have been..you make changes…we had a chance to make some changes on deadline day but we didn;t, so generally the rule is that things stay the same.anyone know if sammy is playing..i know everyone else hates him and he wasn’t worth the money but the team’s problems aren’t his fault…the blame should be equally spread from gainey down to carbo down to every player except souray heut and plekanec…and rivet lol
March 13, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Just read Samsonov’s comments online @ the gazette. Seems he’s admitting his comments might’ve been better said some later time. Rings kinda hollow, carbo said, and he’s right. I am VERY HAPPY that he’s a healthy scratch, even with Kovalazy out. We might actually see a team wide effort tonight, if we’re lucky.
March 13, 2007 at 4:29 pm
I will try to watch the game.
Should be at midnight tonight out here so not too bad I think lol
!
I hope TVU host it nicely and doesn’t stop working after the first period like last time
Talk to you laters may be !
Mazzel !
March 13, 2007 at 5:19 pm
I say give the tickets to NIGELSKI we need all the luck we can muster!!! As long as he’s not mascarading in here as a habs fan and is truely one of those dim-witted trailer-park-trash darcy tucker-loving leaf fans!!
GO HABS GO!
March 13, 2007 at 5:21 pm
2nite’s lines as reported by TSN: Lantendresse-koivu-johnson
Murray-bonk-ryder: Kostitsyn-Lapierre-begin
higgins-plekanec-streit
My q is why dress Murray? Even Samsonov would be a step up on Murray, but why not call up Grabby, milroy or even Ferland? Murray has proven only that he is not ready all season, and likely never will be a quality NHLer.
We should be auditioning some rookies here.
March 13, 2007 at 5:24 pm
I just watched the last few minutes of the LAST GAME played at the old forum, March 11th, 1996. Talk about memories. But it shows: the more things change, the more they stay the same! We had back then, the same type of players as today; Bure,Damphousse, Rucinsky, Kovalenko, KOIVU, Popovich,Thibeault, Recchi.
So, even then we had russian rubbish! I think we needed to stay at the old forum. All the winning ways, respect, luck, tradition and glory left when we moved into the Bell Centre. And why did they move? For economic reasons. To squeeze 5,ooo more people into seats. It’s all about the mighty buck!
And it will never be the same! Teams were scared to play the habs at the old forum. Now, they can’t wait to have an easy game and demolish the habs, at the BELL CENTRE! They’re chopping at the bit! The habs are truly the HabNOTS!
March 13, 2007 at 5:40 pm
It only got worse when it changed from the Molson Centre to the Bell Center. Bell is all about gouging its customers as well. At least Molson can blame the govt for its high prices. Besides, I’d rather be named after beer than a phone, personally.
Still, Nashville has it worse. It’s no wonder they avg so few fans with such a good team: I wouldn’t want to attend anything at the GAYLORD CENTER either.
March 13, 2007 at 7:15 pm
Well according to TSN Tucker and Wellwood have all but sealed the cup for Toronto!
And according to Carboneau, dressing Murray will seal the cup for Montreal, and Abby in net! That is even better than putting Ninnima as a forward!
But really the lines look good for tonite, and Murray at least tried hard in the last win, so he should be rewarded. Maybe Murray can also eclipse Kovalev!
March 13, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Abby is going to play the game of his life tonight.
March 13, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Oh yes, it’ll be Toronto and Montreal at the final for the cup! Yes, TSN predicts Toronto thanks to Tucker and Wellwood, and of course Carboneau has tremendous faith in Abby, and Dandy praises the hell outa Kovalev and as soon as Kovalev gets over his scuffing of his fingernail polish, and the accompanying vertigo cause he just can’t stomach having scuffed his multimillion dollar manicure, Alexei is gonna bring us the cup!
March 13, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Never mind the fact that we play in the same conference, ergo we can’t play each other for the cup any more.
March 13, 2007 at 7:59 pm
As I’ve come to expect, abby goes down early, and we get scored on. It was a bit of a shot, and he might have been screened a bit by Komisarek, but his glove hand never moved as the puck(, shot from the top of the circle,) sailed in above it. Maybe not a bad goal, but it hruts when you know your goalie isn’t gonna steal one for you here or there. He really blows.
March 13, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Begin probably finished for season, and so are the habs!
It will be a cold day in hell, before Aebishit stop giving juicy rebounds!
March 13, 2007 at 8:25 pm
China Doll Begin took one for the habs! He managed to take out the islanders goalie.
That was an exciting end of the first period, you can tell there is an urgency there, although Koivu is not playing with the same urgency. If Montreal is to have a chance, he has to stop trying to get those hooking penalties. More than once Koivu could have been called. He has not changed. Never gonna change.
The lines are not working, its a bad combination, looks good on paper but, all but shows the lack of depth when it comes to Dandy and Bouilly…and Streit is once again the invisible man. These millionaires have to step up to the plate!
March 13, 2007 at 8:33 pm
you can count on 1 thing, when we’re on the PP. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE A PENALTY! nice going with your usual penalty on a PP, KOIVU!
March 13, 2007 at 8:39 pm
A 4 minute F_cking powerplay & no f_cking goal……….It’s f_cking over.
March 13, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Man ,that RYAN SMITH would look real good with the C.H.
March 13, 2007 at 8:45 pm
GO ISLANDERS GO, GO ISLANDERS GO, GO ISLANDERS GO, This Habs team is f_cking pathetic.
Those stupid *** Fans should be throwing f_king tomatoes at those f_cking dummies on the ice. Why don’t they just forfit the rest of the f_cking season.
March 13, 2007 at 8:47 pm
Koivu has to go! At least Ninnima is finally clearing the puck outta the zone, its about time, maybe benching him has taught him the importance of just playing defense!
Montreal needs a good center, they are not winning the faceoffs, and they have no offense!
March 13, 2007 at 8:49 pm
What would look good is, every game they play now they get 20 goals a game scored against those dumb Asses.
March 13, 2007 at 9:06 pm
Did I mention Smith would look good with the C.H. !
March 13, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Typical! As soon as they tie it up, the habs sit back and get scored on! Why does Carbo even play Dandenault and Bouillon! What a pathetic duo!
At least the combination of Gorges and Ninnima seems to click. And what is with Komisarek and all his penalties?
This close to the end of the season and with so much at stake, the habs are still playing like its the middle of the friggen season!
March 13, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Aebischer regain his confidence? What happened to going all the way with me as the starter? I thought I was the saviour! Damn you all! GO ISLANDERS!
March 13, 2007 at 9:31 pm
Well its not looking too promising, the Laffs and the Sabres are tied in their games, and the canes are blowing them away. So the miracle that we prayed for seems to be quite far away….
Maybe the Sens will do in the Rangers, and the Laffs will lose as with the Sabres….the night is still young.
Even if the rangers, laffs and sabres decide to do Montreal a favour, count on Koivu to be the pathetic drunken uncle who spoils the kids birthday party one more time….for the habs to get into the playoffs we almost have to pray for Koivu to get hurt, or sidelined, or benched. But what the odds of that?
March 13, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Fuc#$%^&ing Aebishit! He always goes down too early! They’re putting the puck over his shoulders, ALWAYS! He’s pure garbage! Like the habs!
March 13, 2007 at 9:41 pm
Well ,not looking great but its nice to see the Habs fans on the blog not at each others throats, the name calling and all that should go. It’s good to have different views and thoughts about the team and the games, thats what this Habs team needs ,new ideas and suggestions or good old ideas etc.
March 13, 2007 at 9:44 pm
The Leafs are leading T.B. 3-2 in the 3rd.
March 13, 2007 at 9:52 pm
There goes one part of the miracle. That means the Habs gotta win each and every game, but with our luck this season, that’ll mean the laffs, the rangers and the sabres will win each of theirs as well…
that shoulda been a penalty, and all carbo does is stare blankly, that was an intentional clear over the boards.
At least the habs woke up, finally playing like they are at home, unlike the first period where I had to remind myself that they were playing at the Belle…what is Komisarek doing on the ice, all he’ll do is cost us another penalty!
After tying it up, the habs are looking like they are getting ready to sit back on their behinds and lose once more though.
March 13, 2007 at 9:55 pm
HOLY **** WERE WINNING, HA HA
March 13, 2007 at 10:06 pm
Oh no, Carbo has Dandy and Bouilly on, and komisarek, talk about not wanting to win! Now they are back on their heels thanks to that pathetic line!
March 13, 2007 at 10:07 pm
o.m.g.
March 13, 2007 at 10:08 pm
Once the tumour was removed, the team recovered!!! They have new life tonight!
March 13, 2007 at 10:10 pm
KOVALEV AND SAMSONOV WHO??????
March 13, 2007 at 10:11 pm
No f-ing way.
I still can’t believe it. Did the Habs win their first clutch game of the season? Or am I going to wake up tommorow morning and this was all a dream.
To bad those friggin Leafs won.
March 13, 2007 at 10:15 pm
See what happens when KOVALEV and SAMSONOV (cancers) aren’t in the lineup!
Take away the cancers, and we’re a different team! the 3rd period was probably the best period the habs have played in the past 3 months! Now if only we could bottle that 3rd period and play that way for the remaining games.
we need that same DESPERATION PLAY EVERY GAME NOW!
BTW, I loved that behind the back pass by Kostityn to Plekanec. Kostityn NEEDS TO STAY! Tough game ahead on Friday in Pittsburgh. Good come from behind win.
March 13, 2007 at 10:18 pm
And the Canes!
That was a dirty way to win though, taking out the other goalie. At this rate Begin is gonna have to assassinate almost every goalie just to win. that was the only way the habs won tonite!
Of course, it looked scary with that really crappy line of Dandenault and Bouillon and Komisarek, talk about the kiss of death! If Gainey and Carbo can’t see the poison there, what can’t they see? You could really tell the difference, like night and day, almost like a whole different team played once Dandy and Bouilly were on the ice, a really **** team. Now we know what is responsible for slump. Sure Koivu and Samsonov and Kovalev havn’t been producing but hey, its Dandy and Bouilly that let in the bad guys and Komisarek who gets the penalties, along with Koivu to nail the coffin!
Tonite we were lucky, Begin did us a favour! Now repeat that ten more times, we gotta hurt ten more goalies!
March 13, 2007 at 10:22 pm
Sorry fellow Habs fans. I lost my head there for a while. Reflex action I guess from the Habs loosing so much. I should never doubt my Habs again. Until the next game. HA, HA.
March 13, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Joshtm
Unless I’ve missread you…dipietro in or out would not have made a difference..the other guy played awesome..I don’t know if you saw but he was the difference in this game getting way out of hand! I think we finished with like 45 shots on net!!!
GO HABS!
March 13, 2007 at 10:35 pm
The hockey gods gave us a big present by injuring Dipietro
And by getting out the cancer SAMSONOV&KOVALEV.
The rest of the team really shined.
Hats off to LATANDRESSE.
March 13, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Seriously tell me.
Who was the F_cking Brains of the NHL who changed the win/loss/tie. It should have never been changed. Instead you get that extra 1 f_ucking point for a overtime loss. Montreal would be in 7th spot now if it was like the old days.
It should be win loss or tie. that’s it. There should have been no O.T. Those f_cking Americans are ruining our Game.
I know I should get over it but our game is going down the *******. Those f_cking Americans.
They should stick to what they know best. Staring Wars they cannot finnish.
Those F_ckers.
March 13, 2007 at 10:55 pm
Josh spewing at the mouth again
A win and a much needed one, Begin was pushed into a sprawling goalie who was wayyyy out of his crease and he did not do it on purpose , but of course Josh will spew more garbage
