Your ideal Sheldon Souray Trade
-
Six days remain to see whether or not Sheldon Souray will be traded.
So put yourselves in Bob Gainey’s shoes and make the deal.
Does Souray go alone and who do you go after in return?
The team with most heavy interest is rumored to be the Sharks who have just coincidentally recalled Steve Bernier.
Is it a Souray for Bernier swap? More players or picks involved? Or is Souray going somewhere altogether different?

- Senet1 : Not counting Markov if he plays. If we trade or let go of our UFA defenceman then we will need at least three D-men, I would like a good look at Nash to see if he can play at this level. If not he is gone, I do not think any of our other defensive prospects are ready quite yet. Our junior and college players should be coming on stream for Hamilton next year so we will get to see how much they have developed and whether any are ready for the big time.
- Senet1 : While I agree we have quite a few players that could be made available, I do not see a need to make wholesale changes only the necessary one. obviously Gomez, Gionta, AK46(if he will not sign) I keep our top line of Cole, Pacman and David. I keep Eller and Leblanc, Blunden, Bourque, probably Plecanec unless we can really improve on his positin. I keep PK, Emelin, Gorges, Diaz and Naturally Price. Probably Budaj. That basically gives us two functional line and two sets of defence, not counting
- goalie : Great to see Pacs gets su=ome success after the devestating dirty check last season that could have paralyzed him for life.
- goalie : Given ho the team has played this season one thing in our favor is that we pretty much need to clean house. Other than about 6-7 guys everyone else would be available in my mind.
- goalie : After how the tes]am has
- Avatar37 : Apparently only one offer for Carter on the low side so far, I think Montreal would be foolish not to investigate the possibility of a trade for him, and if there is low interest, the deal might be able to include moving Gomez. Gomez/Darche/Cam poli and a third round pick? Maybe not, but I'd be in serious talks with Columbus right about now.
- Avatar37 : «link»
- Avatar37 : for him had we held on to him until now and created a bidding war. There are more buyers than sellers currently on the market and it would have been the perfect time to have traded him.
- Avatar37 : Goalie - I'm not sure how we could have obtained more for Halak. We showcased him, everyone knew he was available for trade, and in the end, we took the best offer. Any asset is only worth what a purchaser will pay for it. The Halak trade wasn't like the Cammalleri trade where you had GMs afterwards saying they didn't even know he was on the market. The Halak trade was done properly, the Cammelleri trade was a knee-jerk panic move, and while my opinion is that we could have received more
- Avatar37 : I saw the game, the Islanders first goal came from a shot that was clearly above the height of the crossbar. How is it possible for a play to go to review where they have the advantage of mulitple camera angles and the ability to pause and they STILL get the call wrong?
- goalie : I agree don't get dilusional over our three game winning streak. Changes MUST be made. I am however, glad to see the effort being put forth by the players.
- Mats Naslund : I just went to capgeek to see who the Avalanche might be dealing for a rental - and I see they have only 6 players signed for next season!!! There are a couple young D men on that squad who are RFAs who would do very nicely next season.
- Mats Naslund : One thing I know - the 3 game winning streak had better not get PG thinking about holding onto guys for a PO run. Trade them, build the value and move on to next year.
- Mats Naslund : How about Max Pac though.. 21 goals and on pace for 65 points this year. That is absolutely monster for a guy at his age/experience and especially coming after a horrific injury. Huge cornerstone moving forward. On pace for 33 goals.. could he get 35?
- Mats Naslund : Didn't get to see it either - and while I don't really care about the win, I am very glad that Gomez scored so we don't have to endure all of the negativity in the media about him for the rest of the year. He still su@ks, but at least it won't be a topic every shift he takes.
- goalie : Didn't get to see the game at all but it's great to see Pacs get a hat trick and fpor Cole to be + 3. When was the last time this team won three games in a row? Great victory -looks like they're giving 100% effort!
- Senet1 : 4-2 win habs
- Senet1 : Gomez scores, Yea!!!
- goalie : As I said yesterday it will be interesting to see what our lame ass GM gets for players he ships out. Bourque is good and he'll help us but I still think we could have gotten more for him and for Halak when he was traded.
- Avatar37 : round those picks occur (probably 3rd).
- Avatar37 : An interesting article. If we slip to the 5th or 7th draft pick, a very interesting case could be made for drafting Galchenyuk. If we wind up with the second or third pick, I'm not sure who I'd draft, because clearly Yakupov is going to be drafted first overall. Our second round pick also becomes interesting, I know I'd take Vasilevski if he were still available. It will also be interesting to see if we can turn some of our veteran players (Moen, Gill, Campoli) into draft picks, and what
- Avatar37 : «link»
- Avatar37 : That is why PG should have waited on trading Cammalleri. Right now, there is a high demand for a top 6 forward, we could have gotten much more than Bourque in return. That isn't a knock against Bourque, but a knock against a knee-jerk reaction trade that didn't maximize our return on a top asset.
- Avatar37 : «link»
- Avatar37 : chips fall where they may. After all, the only difference between finishing 17th and 29th is how good a pick you get in the draft.
- Avatar37 : We currently sit in 26th place in the league. We are 15 points ahead of Columbus, it's safe to bet at this point they will place last. We are, however, only 4 points ahead of Edmonton so it's still wide open as to who is going to finish second last. I still think that it's time to sit the veterans, play the youth, let them get experience, and regroup for next year. I'm not suggesting deliberately tanking like the Penguins, but give all our young players lots of playing time and let the c
- Avatar37 : goalie - If it were not for the play of Cammalleri, we would never have made it out of round 1. Cammalleri played as big a part, if not bigger, than Halak did. Sure, Halak played well, but remember the team collapsed in front of him, making his job much easier. We had lots of blocked shots and the ones that got through were typically from the outside.
- Senet1 : Goalie you are absolutely right, of course the one thing we had the two previous years that won the games that we are losing this year was our power play. If you look at say 10 games that we should have won had we had a similar power play, again we would not be having these conversations. When your PP goes from first to last in the league that is a lot of goals. How many games have we lost this year by one goal. Again poor management who did not prepare for Markov's possible absence.
- goalie : I'll put it another way.... we need more players who are willing to get their noses dirty.
- goalie : Two years ago when our goaltending stole series adn our players suddenly scored the coaches / GM believed that that was our true team . Well time has proven that was not. Though I was very glad to see the Habs knock off some very good teams we were very fortunate. And fortunate that spring was spelled HALAK!
- goalie : The wrst mistake management could possibly make I believe is to say, we played well some games and we believe the team can play to that level more often in the future. This team CANNOT adnb DOES NOT play to a high enough level. Please do not kid yourself mamngement. hat is partially why we're in the lace we are.
- goalie : Senet is correct when he says that if we had more games with a better efort this year we'd likely be in the playoffs. It has been very inconsistent effort but much more than that. We lack big, tough playing and finishing. Never mind fighting for a moment. We did not compete for the pucks nor along the boards nor in front of both nets enough this year. Thus we are in 29th. If the coaching staff doesn't see that then they shouldn't be there.
- Senet1 : Surely Molson is not going to keep him as the GM?
- Senet1 : when he knows he will be fired at the end of the season. Nothing really makes since in this whole process.
- Senet1 : I am not sue why PG has not been fired by now. They could be waiting for another GM to come available at season end, but why would you not set up a committee to manage the team in the short run until a new GM can be named. There is no since in chaning coaches because whoever the GM is he will want to name his own coach. Gainey and a committe of other executives can manage the team through to the trading deadline and onward. What motivation does PG have to making any worthwhile trades when he is

February 22, 2007 at 11:54 pm
WE OUTWORKED THE BEST TEAM IN THE NHL. SIMPLE AS THAT. SAMMY MAY HAVE HAD A HORRIFIC YEAR BUT HIS GOAL MAY BE THE ONE WE REMEMBER COME PLAYOFF TIME. WHAT A GAME. WHAT A EFFORT. NOW WE CAN CALL IT A WINNING STREAK
THE FIFTH GOAL AGIANST WAS A JOKE OF A GOAL BUT WE MANAGED TO FIGHT ADVERSITY. THE FIRST PENALTY AGAINST MARKOV WAS A JOKE AS WELL.
GO HABS. CANT WAIT FOR HIGGINS. A KOST IS A LITTLE OUT OF HIS LEAGUE. EVEN I CEN SHOOT DIRECTLY INTO A GOALIES PAD.
February 22, 2007 at 11:55 pm
U LIKING THIS ONE F R A N K…LOL
February 22, 2007 at 11:56 pm

GO HABS GO
February 22, 2007 at 11:57 pm
WOOOOOT!!!! BEST GAME HABS PLAYED IN A REALLY LONG TIME!!! Oh man that was breathtaking. And to think we could of beat em in regulation if Souray and Dandy hadn’t let goals in their own net lol…
I have faith again!!!
February 22, 2007 at 11:57 pm
KOSTEY HASN’T GOT HIS LEGS YET, HILL DO JUST FINE !!
February 22, 2007 at 11:58 pm
Imagine if these guys played a few games together and developed some chemistry. Streit played awsome on D. I have to take my foot out of my mouth now because all the players I suggest we trade scored tonight.
Wow….
We need to find a way to keep these guys flying! HALAK had great Shootout some thing we haven’t seen for a while! Awh they did not give up!
February 23, 2007 at 12:00 am
great comeback win! Gee, Forsberg really earned his keep tonight by falling on his shootout. Guess his skate still doesn’t fit right. I really felt good about this win because we habs didn’t quit. Imagine if we didn’t take all those PENALTIES? But we had to win this game because everyone else got at least 1 point. Higgins will play on Saturday; go beat the Islanders!
I think that Kostityn should play also. The kids are giving us good energy.
But what was Carbo thinking for his shootout guys? Kostityn, Plekanec,Perehzogin ? Go habs!
February 23, 2007 at 12:06 am
DID you see Muller and Carbo laughing it up,havn’t seen that in a while.
February 23, 2007 at 12:07 am
Best game for Samsonov. Who did he play with? Keep that line intact. We really didn’t need Souray tonight, not a factor. So it’s ok to trade him. We’ll manage without him. Ryder seems to have his confidence back, and Koivu too.
The team seems more energized. You know why? Because Kovalev isn’t there. I told you guys, Kovalev was the cancer. He play much better without him!
February 23, 2007 at 12:11 am
Yeah Plekanec was a plausible choice for shootout but the two others? Come on we all know Koivu is pretty much a sure bet so why not have him start? Anyways we got a pretty good goalie in Halak. He’s able to make the key saves and doesn’t break down after a couple of goals.
Keep Kovalev injured. What about Guillaume though? He’s been playing real bad for a while now. You think we was surrounded for too long with the oldies and it currepted his talent? lol…
You know what? Why make a trade right now? We got a team that can beat the best teams if it works hard AND, who says we won’t get screwed in a trade just like Nashville did LMAO!!!
February 23, 2007 at 12:18 am
HOLLY WOW!!!!!! WE’RE BACK.
February 23, 2007 at 12:23 am
Yeah, Latendresse doesn’t look good lately. Maybe he’s lost some confidence. Taking too many penalties, and costing us. he needs to make SMART plays, and just use his size and strength to his advantage.
February 23, 2007 at 1:01 am
Not sure Kovalev a cancer… but I think Halak was a confidence booster. We have a rejuvinated 1st line (which Kovalev did not play on) Our second line had not done squat until tonight without him. I do not think we need to point fingers at what was bad, when we have so many good things happening now. I think the whole team was energied by young hunger to win. Lapi started off that way and has come back from the stratusphere since, He’s played well do not get me wrong, but guys that stepped up tonight. We need to find a way to keep them up.
February 23, 2007 at 3:28 am
Take a deep breathe. Next three games against the Isles, leafs and rangers. ABby has to start at least one if not two.
February 23, 2007 at 3:29 am
ANyone else notice our shots against in the last 10 games have been well below 30 on average. 32 tonight but that included OT and well the top team in the league.
Lindy Ruff is a little baby. Just thought I would add that in. I say screw both teams. WHo cares.
February 23, 2007 at 4:00 am
What a win I can’t believe it 3 in a row?
That’s the Samsonov I thought we were getting, awesome!
I love Souray, but business is business.
What trade I would love to make:
Mat Carle and Steve Bernier (or Pavelski) FOR Souray and Perezhogin
(of course sign Souray in the offseason and move that pilon called Rivet)
Either way we must be sellers & buyers come trade dead line.
February 23, 2007 at 10:56 am
Maybe Samsonov and Kovalev can’t co-exist as players (not teammmates) on the same team, they’ve got to be the go-to-guy and either or with that style of player. Dunno.
All’s I know is the Habs are making some on this blog look like whining little babies.
February 23, 2007 at 11:16 am
I love it when these underachieving ******** like Johnson and Samsonov prove me wrong. I guess there is something that Gainey saw in these guys, but why are they absent from view the rest of the year? Why do we pay them so much for just one or two goals?
Yes we are and have been whining little babies, but hey didn’t Carbo bench these ******** too? I’d like to see your reply to that.
Even the media noticed that something is wrong with the habs.
February 23, 2007 at 11:33 am
Habs no. 1 and Josh:
Josh you are just a wild crazy man, I love your stuff. You need help man, but keep posting.
But habs no. 1 is pretty clever, and pretty much right in everything he writes.
Keep going both of you, this is great fun.
Cheers
February 23, 2007 at 11:48 am
josh you’re a tough love kind of fan, maybe you oughta coach.
February 23, 2007 at 11:54 am
Long winded but….
Gazette Reports – Pitt showing interested in Rivet… Could we send him to a possible Eastern team with a possible playoff match-up? Do we take what we can get and free up some room for some youngsters?
Rivet and Higgins are projected to be back in the line-up Saturday and Kovalev, I am sure will want to get back into action soon. Carbo will once again be tested, but this time because players are doing well, instead of missing assignments.
The fact is I doubt he’ll sit Kovalev, nor would I want him too (unless he defies Carbo’s authority)! His talent and tempo control are an valuable asset in a grueling night after night playoff atmosphere. Many believe Nashvilles acquisition of Forsberg was to add this particular tempo setting dynamic to a talented but one dimensional team. Forsberg may still get feet wet but they’ll be better with him. I think now that Montreal players are getting in front of the Net the team’s production will benefit especially a Kovalev type player. He is also the teams’ best shoot-out player, which undoubtedly helps any team ask Forsberg… Anyway that is one rooster player to be removed.
Rivet return? No Question, a player that loves Montreal and the Fans. Not playing as well as players such as Streit which I believe better compliments Souray as his wing man, possess a better sense to when to jump into an offensive rush, faster, and has a more lethal shooting capability. But can we deal him or fit him into the system remains to be seen?
Higgins is probably a no brainer to most and will be back in the line-up!
Who goes? Who stays? Who Knows?
What would you do?
Milroy – he’ll probably be the 1st casualty and will go back to Hamilton with Higgins return. He’s got good nose for the net but has not shown the confidence needed to play at top level. I think he be on this team because Carbo openly said he likes him, but still a little timid to secure a roster spot.
Kosti will probably get another opportunity to prove his existence with Kovalev out and our need for another forward. His size and energy was a breath of fresh air we needed after giving up an early lead. Hopefully he can establish a scoring sense, to gain a much needed respect currently lacking on the second line.
Halak will remain in net until he plays bad. Hopefully til summer!
Murray with his work ethic has re-emerged from the press box, but probably does not have the talent to remain on full-time.
Laps probably remain on 4th line and develop into a Bonk type player, with an agitation role to add. He also needs to plant himself in front of the Net. A habit I have been noticing is that he likes his outside corner shot emerging into the offensive zone. His shot is not a high percentage shot and usually he’s leading the rush, so no possibilities for rebounds. Needs to learn to stop the rush, establish the zone, and wait for his wing men to join him, and then go to the Net!
Laten, has struggled as of late and may be feeling the pressure of his young Hamilton friends looking find a piece of the Hab pie. He does not use his size to his advantage and has begun playing like a small stick handling floater, and frustration has led him to damaging penalties. He is highly talented and is a future star. Needs work through this rut and keep in Carbos good graces! Best way is to show some grit and get to the net. Leave the stick handling to guys like Koivu, Kovalev, Higgins, hate to say it Sammy, Perez…
Good luck Carbo!
Go Habs Go
February 23, 2007 at 11:55 am
are the pen’s interested in Rivet?
February 23, 2007 at 11:55 am
Kinda off topic but you wouldn’t believe the amount of whining by Leaf fan’s on TSN’s site about Fraser’s disallowed goal by Cromag Mats. The Hab’s have this sort of thing happen to them every single game and we don’t whine about it no where nearly as much as they do. And bringing up 1993???What the hell is up with that??Get over it.I just though it was hilarious nonetheless. Anyway’s great character win by the Hab’s and VERY nice to see the Laff’s lose!! GO HABS GO!!!
February 23, 2007 at 12:03 pm
I do not think I have seen Mike Johnson whine or get benched by Carbo!
February 23, 2007 at 12:06 pm
Rivet Rumor http://www.habsinsideout.com/
February 23, 2007 at 3:39 pm
I think they should not trad Sheldon Souray. He’s a very good hockey player. I think that Saku Koivu is the best hockey player. Sheldon is the second best. We usually get power plays. Thats when the other team scores. Sometimes we injure the other team and they get four minutes in the penalty box. They should be more careful. There not as bad as the team Boston. I hope they have a chance to win the cup and don’t trade Sheldon Souray.
February 23, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Getting rid of Souray would be a very bad move on the Habs part. How could you trade a 50 point D-man?. Get rid of those Russians……………
February 24, 2007 at 9:26 pm
keep souray!!!!
February 25, 2007 at 1:43 pm
Keep souray!! he has became an AMAZING player and he could really benifit the team in the future. I met him and not only is he a great player but he is really nice and takes time for his fans. So.. Why would you let an excellent player like that get away?!..
Keep Souray!!
GO HABS GO!!
February 25, 2007 at 9:10 pm
YOU GUYS ARE ALL DUMB. SOURAY WILL BE DEALT IF NOT HE LEAVES AT THE END OF THE SEASON HANDS DOWN. HE WANTS TO MOVE OUT WEST AND THEIRS NO WAY HES SIGNING A NEW CONTRACT. HABS WONT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS ANYWAYS SO WHY WOULD THEY NEED SOURAY.
GO SENS GO
February 26, 2007 at 10:42 am
here are my thoughts….Gainey traded Rivet becuz he wanted to make a cap room to sign Souray and Markov before the july 1st…he didnt want to lose Rivet for nothing on the july 1st so he gets Gorges and a 1st rounder… and the 1st rounder he gets from the sharks.he will use it to get a trade…..Bill Guerin for 1st rounder 3rd rounder and Perezhogin….who knows?? or maybe someother player who is available like Bertuzzi
GO HABS GO!
May 16, 2007 at 5:14 pm
Resign Souray I agree Let him finish his career in Montreal where it begain where he set some records, and with Briere coming which looks very possible at this point they will be a team tro look at and likley a Cup contending team
