Buffalo Sabres New Jersey
-
The Canadiens open the season October 6th against the longtime divisional rival Buffalo Sabres.
The Sabres will be debuting their newly crafted jersey which is causing outrage to many Buffalo fans.
It seems the Sabres tried to go back to their roots with the Blue and Gold vintage colors and Buffalo but modernize them and this is the result:

Sabres fans think it looks more like a ‘slug’ than a Buffalo. Opinions?
The Canadiens logo is too historic to ever be modified in anyway. The Canadiens are one of the few teams whose third jersey is just a different (vintage) color combination. Should the Canadiens ever design a modern jersey?

- Avatar37 : pressure playing in Montreal, since he has problems with the expectations in Washington and Montreal isn't any easier. Then again, the media were very easy on Kovalev, so maybe it's a Russian thing? No idea. Anyway, yeah, it would have to be an established star that gives us an immediate drastic upgrade at forward, that's the only way I'd trade PK, because we'd be giving up a potential QB on our blueline for the next decade.
- Avatar37 : Goalie - Sure, the only player I'd say who is untradeable (meaning I wouldn't trade no matter what) is Carey Price. You build a winning team from the net out, and I don't think there's a better goalie for his age in the NHL than Price, so I wouldn't trade him. Otherwise, every player would be open for offers, but for PK Subban, it would take (for me) an already established star, like Carter or Crosby or Ovechkin. As much as I like Ovechkin, I'm not sure he could handle all the media pre
- goalie : I'm not suggesting at all that we judst dump or get rid of PK. I do however believe that he is a very valued commodity in the NHL adn that the Habs will receive offers for his services. If someone ffers us young, strong, puck handling forwards who can score, I think the Habs have to look at that possible trade.
- Avatar37 : Agreed. It would be a big mistake to trade PK just to move up 2 spots in the draft. PK, Emelin, and Gorges are the bright future of our defense.
- Senet1 : I am with you Avatar, Subban stays, it is not often that you get a stud defenceman who can play 25+ minutes. The mistakes he makes are for the most part not that serious and people forget he is only 23 and been in the league 2 years. He has come a long way in those two years. He has offense, defence and he hits. You cannot bet much better than that. Two more years experience and he has a shot at the Norris. If Markov does anything I hope he teaches PK how to work the PP.
- Avatar37 : «link»
- Avatar37 : go.
- Avatar37 : round exit. Heck, even the year they won the cup we almost took them out in round 1. I believe in the corps of this team, I really think we just need a few tweaks. Adding Larry Robinson to run the defense would be a BIG help, keep Cunneyworth as offensive coach, and get a head coach who can get these guys back on the right path. We need to establish an identity again, a team that won't let itself be pushed around like it was under Martin. A few scrappers on this team and we'll be good to
- Avatar37 : Yeah, the only way I'd trade PK is if we were getting an established star in return, like Carter or Crosby. I don't think we're miles away from competing deep into the playoffs, the NHL has become so competitive because of the salary cap that really there aren't huge differences between the teams. Add into the equation the stupid scoring system (some games worth 2 points, some 3) that the standings don't truly reflect where teams should really be. Look at Boston, cup winners to first rou
- Senet1 : It would have to be something pretty special before I would trade PK. To me he is the #1 building block of our defence. I would trade any other defenceman we have before I would trade PK.
- Senet1 : An improvement in our offense and strengthening our defence. Personally, I do not think we are that far off, five players at best could get us there. One thing that has always been true about the playoffs, Defence wins and you need a strong 3rd and 4th line.
- goalie : I'm more optimistic now about the Habs than I have been for the past three dreadfully long seasons!
- goalie : 2: I think GM Bergevin will make somewhat of a 'blockbuster't rade either before or on the day of the draft adn I believe PK Subban will be in that package. WE have t rememebr we have to give away some talent to get back other talent. No one wants players like Moen to move up in the draft etc.
- goalie : Some thoughts:The more I see the playoffs it becomes even more obvious that we're miles away from being able to 'compete' dep into the playoffs
- Avatar37 : «link»
- Senet1 : Young Subban might also be an option if the Russian goalie is not available. However, to me I would wait another year and attempt to use my draft 2nd round draft picks to improve out forward situation.
- Senet1 : Although Rinne contact is another example of long term at the wrong time. He is 29 years old. A case could be made with Price that double his money now with bonuses if we win the cup, I think that is still allowed in contracts?
- Senet1 : Problem is he is going to want Pekka Rinne money and term. That is closer to 7M. On the other hand, the contract could have step up clauses in it over the 7 years.
- Avatar37 : With Price, I wouldn't blink twice about offering him a 7 year contract now, especially if he'd be willing to give up dollar value for length. 7 years at $5.5 million a year would be just fine in my book.
- Avatar37 : I think the goaltending void in our current system would push me to draft Vasilevski with our second pick, if he was available. He's young and has lots of potential, but is at least 5-6 years away from starting to be ready to play on an NHL roster.
- Senet1 : Long tern contracts are a risk, but if you have a super star not as much. Luongo's contract was long term but signed too late in his career.
- Avatar37 : Senet - Yes, you were clear in your post, my question was directed at goalie. I'm with you in that I'd be willing to sign him to a 7 year contract. I'd be nervous about anything longer, because every single long term goalie contract I can think of turned out to be a disaster for the team signing it.
- Senet1 : I think that Budaj is a better goalie than many give him credit for, is he a Price no but with a tight defence he could be a good goalie. Many teams have average goalies but have great defence and still win. Look at Detroit, for years they have had average goaltending, but won cups. Goalies can get on a roll in the playoffs, look at Huet as an example, he was not really a good goalie but played great in the playoffs, next year he was a wash. Defence makes the goalie a winner, just ask Price.
- Senet1 : Having a young equivalent goalie in the system right now is not important, three years from now it will be, so we have three years to make that kind of move in the draft. I think we have more pressing needs aat the moment.
- Senet1 : Personally, I do not see this as a negative because of Price's age, you wait to draft a goalie of a Patrick Roy or Brodeur some teams wait a life time. To me we have on so why would we want to not play that out for as long as we can. Bottom line is this, regardless, right now you have a stud goalie, you are either going to pay him the money he deserves for not sign him and lose him. There is no middle of the road here.
- goalie : Avatar made a great point. We don't have an NHL or up adn coming NHL goalies in our system. Another great move by Gauthier. Price is sitting very pretty.
- goalie : WEll Price has us by the nads. I guess I'd have to go as far as a 7 year contract due to his play adn his age.
- Senet1 : Luongo is now 33, he has been a good goaltender for a number of years. I would sign Price for 7 years and at age 31 then we deal with UFA at that time. Hopefully, we could provide him with another 5 years at that time. That is my opinion anyway, I would never risk losing him as a UFA at this point in his career to me that would be a very poor management decision. Even a 10 year contract would put him only at 34 years old. If you are going to sign him to long term now is the time.
- Senet1 : If you have a young stud you have to gamble a little and give him a contract that is worthy of his abilities and his potential. It can have escalation clauses or reducing clauses like Kovalchuk's contract.
- Senet1 : Avatar, I thought I was clear Yes I would sign him long term. My previous post said. The problem is if you have a out in the contract after 5 years then the player also has an out after 5 years. So no self respected lawyer would accept a contract that did not have equal escape clauses. So no I would not sign only for 5 years, if Price was 28 years old yes but not a 24. Seven years still only makes him 31 when the contract is over. If you have a young stud you have to gamble a little and give him
- Avatar37 : Cammalleri trade. Given the fact that we have no NHL starting quality goaltenders in the system currently, aren't we held hostage to having to sign Price?
- Avatar37 : There are many bad goalie contracts, just look at Huet. However, your post didn't answer my question as to what you'd do with Price. He's an RFA now, but for argument sake, if he were a UFA, what would you do? If he wanted a 7+ year contract, you know some other team would give him one. Would you risk losing him for nothing because you didn't want to sign a contract over 5 years? And if we lose Price, our goalies are Budaj and Robert Mayer, as we sent Karri Ramo to the Flames in the Cam
- goalie : .. a 5 years contract again based upon the experience he has had AND he likes Bobby Lou!
- goalie : Ditto for Philly, Ther goaltender 'situations' have both become the number 1 story line for both teams, and in Vancouver one could see the exaspiration on Gillis' adn to some extent Vigneault's faces when continously being bombarded by the loooong term contract that the Canucks are stuct with. (Gillis even said last February or so, thank goodness it looks like more than few other teams will be looking for a starting goaltender for 2012-13. He said he would never again do more than a 5 year c
- goalie : I've spent the past four winters in BC thus I am very aware of the Canucks situations. I'd first say I give Gillis adn Vigneault 100% credit for being VERY supportive of Roberto L. even when Corey Schenider has vastly out played him. (I too like Bobby Lou but facts are facts).

The shirts style is cool and I like the return to the old colors. The logo…I’m not impressed, but I’ve seen worse. Wasn’t there some guy who did a total retro version and was campaigning to use his model (think that was on the TSN website a few weeks back…)
Anyway, nothing beats the pure beauty of the Habs red jersey.
September 12, 2006 at 10:37 am
Habs should never touch the C!!!!
September 12, 2006 at 10:43 am
I would be shocked if anyone ever wanted to change the CH.
September 12, 2006 at 11:12 am
A curse on the graphics design company who even bids on such a ruse….
September 12, 2006 at 12:07 pm
BUTT UGLY. I personally dont like it. I like the old jersey with the buffalo and the 2 crossing sabres from the days of Dale Hawerchuk and Patty Lafontaine. I also think they should not mess with the Habs unies. Another jersey I really liked for some reason was the old Washington Caps ones.
September 12, 2006 at 1:19 pm
I would have prefered their old logo in the 80′s with the same color design.
BTW : Anybody saw the 15 years deal DiPietro got with the Islander. 15 years, that’s LONG LONG LONG time contract. He will probably not do the 15 years. How many goalies played 15 years with sucess ? Brodeur, Roy, anyone else recently if not you could had Plante etc…. Well, we will see what happens but I don’t see Islanders having a run for the Stanley Cup in the near future.
September 12, 2006 at 2:23 pm
15 years? Did DiPietro get married to the NYI’s team owner’s daughter?
Buffalo’s shirt looks cartoonish, a bit like the mighty ducks. Next thing we know we will have bugs-bunny as a logo?
Btw, when does the canadiens preseason start, and when is the first preseason game?
September 12, 2006 at 3:45 pm
Booooooo
September 12, 2006 at 4:49 pm
They should never redesign the habs jersey.
I find most of the newer jerseys childish and cartoonish.
September 12, 2006 at 5:02 pm
lol…This jersey is the worse one I’ve ever seen. To be honest they had the coolest jersey in the league. I’m impressed how they decided to change it.
Anyways do you guys know who decided to change it? The owner? The whole team?
September 12, 2006 at 5:27 pm
Not that bad really, reminds me of The St. Louis Rams jerseys from the NFL. Now for the Habbies unies, how about this, nothing says Canadiens like the maple leaf, but let’s color it white and blue to keep the french men happy, OH wait that has already been done. Let’s go with puke green and put a beaver on the front, so that way after The Habs win the cup they can have a playoff beard shaving day and call it shaving your beaver day. I’ll lead the riot if they ever chage The Bleu, Blanc, Rouge.
September 12, 2006 at 6:20 pm
The new jerseys suck and the old grey, red and black jerseys also sucked.
Now hopefully the team will suck. Ryan Miller will have a Raycroft type sophomore season and Briere will come back down to earth now that he has the big buckaroos. Jay Mckee meant alot to this team and DUmont was a solid player.
Afinogenov is great but has a Zubrus like unlucky shooting streak.
Prediction: Sabres to finish 8th in conference(3rd in division)
If you really take a good look at this team you will understand my prediction. Please I hate Lindy Ruff. What a whiner.
September 12, 2006 at 6:22 pm
Lindy Ruff still mentions the 99 finals in every single interview he does. Skate in crease, sure it was. In his face. HAHAHA
September 12, 2006 at 7:25 pm
Buffalo Jersey one word comes to mind: Yuk! (should have gone back to the 80′s)
Habs jersey: They don’t dare touch a thing. Just thinking it is a sin.
September 12, 2006 at 8:22 pm
Since the NHL is going cartoonish, why not put a big picture of Asterix in the middle of the canadiens jersey?
September 12, 2006 at 9:17 pm
hahahahahaha that was a funny one
September 12, 2006 at 9:36 pm
The new Buffalo Jersey absolutly sucks. They should have stuck with the one’s they’ve been using for the past few years.
The Habs have way to much tradition to EVER change their jersey’s. The Original SIX teams should never change their jersey’s, especially the Habs(Though Toronto and Chicago should have little patches on their sleeves saying how many years they’ve gone without a cup because that might be the only thing that might motivate them not to suck year in and year out, biggest props there to the Blackhawks. 45 FRAKIN’ YEARS! Is that brutal or what!?)
P.S. To any Islanders fans out there, I hope you enjoy having this generations version of Harold Ballard running your team. 15 YEARS and 62 million dollars for maybe the 11th to 9th best goalie in the NHL and may never get better? Then again you shouldn’t expect any smarter from a guy who gave the GM’s job to his former backup goaltendre who retired just 1 hour earlier and who also gave Alexie Yashin a 10 year 100 million dollar contract and the C? You could hear the laughter all the way from Ottawa. Wang is ruining that franchise.
September 12, 2006 at 10:01 pm
The Jersey is rlly nice, NO ONE SHUD/WILL NEVER TOUCH THE CH it broutgh us 24 cups leave it with the ch lol
September 12, 2006 at 10:06 pm
That team just blew their future
September 12, 2006 at 10:37 pm
The jersey has nothing to do with their future tho! It makes them look just so ugly…
September 12, 2006 at 11:53 pm
Garth Snow also gave a 10 year 100 million dollar contract to Yashin??! What a dumb move that is. This guy has been on the job for a month and has already signed people for the next 10-15 years..? What a cautious start.
Yashin isn’t worth 10 million for one year, let alone 10 in a row. Di Pietro isn’t worth 4.5 million any year. Maybe he is thinking that inflation will catch up and these will end up being good long term signings. The way I see it, he will be out of the job long before that, after pretty much crippling that team for the next 10 years.
September 13, 2006 at 12:59 am
Razzy, the Cash in By Yashin was 5 years ago. Milbury was the culprit. Wang is the dude that didn’t learn from it.
September 13, 2006 at 7:24 am
Hey JT;
Im sure Pactum was talking about the Isles not the Sabres. Dipietro’s agent must be laughing all the way to Bermuda. Too bad Wang is not canadian he would make a outstanding PM.
September 13, 2006 at 8:58 am
What is so hard about just bringing back the original blue and gold Sabres logo design??? You can’t mess with the Habs logo, same goes for the Wings, Rangers and the Hawks, they’ve been constant pretty much since their inceptions… where the tradition in hockey? Why is everything based in a cash grab???
September 13, 2006 at 9:06 am
I wouldn’t touch the traditional habs, in fact I think the habs should go back to the format they had in the mid 70′s. Which is classic and modern at the same time in the use of its colors. Yes, I agree the Sabres design is much to be desired, it does indeed look like a slug.
September 13, 2006 at 10:24 am
Gang, no offence, but the Montreal third jersey leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe I’m getting old, but I cannot read the numbers on those freakin things. The Rangers jerseys with the laces on the collar- wouldnt mind the Habs 3rd jersey going back to that era. Whats up with third jerseys anyhow? Home, away, and…what? Marketing scheme, nothing more.
September 13, 2006 at 4:44 pm
The montreal jersey is not only a jersey but sure is a tradition to us. WEearing and representing the montreal canadiens jersey gives us more faith for this team
September 14, 2006 at 7:46 am
this jersey sucks donkey ****
September 14, 2006 at 1:44 pm
#27…I’m flattered you like the name, but…
September 14, 2006 at 3:03 pm
That’s not the actual jersey. That’s a fan photoshop concept of the new logo on a mock-up jersey. One of the “B’s” is actually backwards on the shoulder. The real jersey comes out 9/16, and looks a lot better than this trash.
September 14, 2006 at 7:09 pm
Hey this is my name! loser
September 15, 2006 at 11:39 am
OK, “Loser” it is…glad you saw the light.
September 15, 2006 at 5:50 pm
glad you saw the light. ?????????
WTF??
go get your own name. What the hell???
September 18, 2006 at 1:20 pm
As a long time Buffalo fan, I don’t really know what to think about the new jersey. I mean, I love Buffalo’s old colors, but honestly, I’m not so sure about the new design. Maybe if they could have made the traditional logo with some alterations, such as making it look like a more modern version of it, that would have been the way to go. Looks like somebody just spent a lot of money to piss a lot of people off.
September 18, 2006 at 3:52 pm
You all know the TRUE symbol of the Buffalo Sabres.
http://www.gasolinealleyantiqu…en-auto-84sabres1.JPG
Lots of suckers buying this **** on a jersey.
They dont care. They just buy what the management puts out.
This new logo is a total disgrace.
DONT BUY THE SLUG!!!!
————————-
GO GO BUFFALO!!!!
September 18, 2006 at 9:18 pm
all u who are hating on the sabres both players and ruff, what place did they finish in? and what place did your home team finish in? o yea… suck it. dont be salty because a team of mostly no name rookies out played every other team in the nhl, and due to injuries came up short in the end.
September 19, 2006 at 12:30 am
HAHAHAHA
injuries
DOnt ever talk to habs fans about injuries. DOnt you follow hockey idiot.
September 19, 2006 at 12:33 am
Suck it?
This isan’t a *** wrestling site. Lindy Ruff can suck it. He can suck on the fact that Hull’s skate was not in the crease and it was a good goal. HA
September 19, 2006 at 10:49 am
I agree with Dean. Look at the standing last year, and where did you guys place? Exactly. And the only reason we lost in game 7 was due to the fact that almost all our defensmen were out and had to call up the rookies.
And, if you look at the tape, his foot was in the crease. Even notice that after that year, if the goal was questionable, they review it? They know they fucked it up.
And who got coach of the year this past year?
Exactly.
Watch us completely kick your *** this season. You can watch us go to the end, while your team’s on the golf course.
September 19, 2006 at 11:18 am
I think tradition is important and some things are meant to be the way they have been over the years. The original six teams should never design a new jersey and their third jersey should remain as the “old” design. Even some of the older expansion teams jerseys that we’ve all grown to love and get accustomed to are being changed. Why? are we trying to “Americanize” this game because the game can’t sell itself? Let’s make the game better and forget about changing jerseys.
September 19, 2006 at 11:27 pm
As a Buffalo resident and fan I think that the only thing this new logo should be used for is a toilet paper design. Its a shame that now such a great team has to get dressed in something that looks like a cross between a New England Patriots logo with a Nashville Predators jersey and ugly colors. And for the last time(the first was when the second logo came out in 96), its the Buffalo Sabres, not the Buffalo Buffalos, put some swords in there. About the CH, like all the old jerseys, including Buffalos original, it is very classy and should never be changed. I cant imagine not being able to refer to the Habs as the bleu blanc et rouge.
October 4, 2006 at 5:15 pm
ACTUALLY DIPIETRO IS AN EXCELLENT GOALIE,AND I WOULD TAKE HIM OVER HALF OF THE YOUNG GOALTENDERS ANYDAY.HE’S THE BEST GOALTENDER IN THE SHOOTOUT PERIOD AS WELL.YASHIN ON THE OTHERHAND,YOU HAVE TO CHECK THE SCORESHEET SOMETIMES EVERY NIGHT,JUST TO SEE IF HE EVEN PLAYED.THEY COULDN’T TRADE HIM FOR A BAG OF PUCKS!
October 5, 2006 at 9:40 am
Dude all you whiners need to grow up. If you cant get with the times and accept the change, go back to your typwriter and bite me. The new NHL logo’s on the whole are very cartoonish, but at least the Sabres are back to the Blue and Gold of the original jerseys. I already have my Home jersey paid for and I’m waiting for the Name & number to be sewn on. Buy the new jersey and get a big beer and enjoy one of the best teams in the NHL, enjoy the sabres kicking the snot out of all the canadian teams again this year. I’ll be at the HSBC center this friday to wittness the Habbs getting dismantled proudly clad in the new logo’s. After which you can find the whole city driving down deleware celebrating our teams success, I’m behind them 100% slug or no slug…..
I’m not gonna let a marketing campaign ruin the best sport for me. Hockey rules and the new jerseys are Ok. They still need to grow on most people.
Can you hear me now? , “LETS GO BUFF-A-LO!!!”
October 16, 2006 at 9:21 pm
This new logo is a total disgrace.
I will not buy any slug merchandize.
The 3rd jerseys are so much better.
DONT BUY THE SLUG!!!!
October 19, 2006 at 1:31 pm
Still undefeated by the way….
Cheers to the slug, I’m lovin’ it!
HAHAHAHAhahahahahahahaha
November 11, 2006 at 6:07 pm
Anyone with a sense of style and fashion will recognize that this is a fresh jersey. The concept is hot, that they kept their original colors and gave a present 2007-08 ish look to it. Yallz be stuck in the mogilny lafontaine days. The design that came with it is hot too, with the players number on the upper chest. The logo itself might need some retouching though but its still fresh.
November 13, 2006 at 10:38 pm
I like the idea of bringing back the colors of blue n yellow, b/c red n black are way overdone anymore! in all uniforms (expecially resturants) but the logo is the worst thing in the world!! i agree with who said it looks like the rams nfl logo or even yet the vikings. it looks cheap my b/f is a graphic designer he couldn’t beleive this is what our team has to represent. shoulda jsut kept the same sabres logo GRRRRRR
July 24, 2007 at 4:08 pm
you guys are all homos, the jersey looks just fine. it does NOT i repeat NOT look like a damn slug.
October 2, 2007 at 7:45 pm
horrible to get old by becoming a traditionalist. as a leaf fan they can do whatever they eant to the habs jersey. but now the leaf jersey looks like a practice sweater. hopefully there wil belots of retro nights circa 1881 so we can see real uniforms again
